Overall very average experience, I would potentially come back, but honestly, el ranchero down the street is better. The food was average. I did like how they had a bunch of different salsas, that was quite nice. They also had a decent queso fundido. Unfortunately, the food was not as good and not nearly as authentic as other places I have been. The prices were average, maybe slightly above. The margaritas were also average, but a good price. Wow! This was the BEST Mexican food I've had since being in California! My tacos were just like if I got them in Mexico! Simple but with their added special sauces... OMG! Ordered take out the other night and everything was good! Was a large order and nothing was missing when we picked up. Also very reasonable pricing. Good simple tacos I would get again. Reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because my friend said the steak in her enchilada was a little fatty, But it had good flavor. Just finished some take out and it was delicious. Chicken burrito, Carnitas burrito, Barbacoa tacos, an order of guacamole, an order of sweet plantains. This fed two adults and two kids with left overs for later. Burritos are large, more than enough to share and they are served with a choice of fries or rice. Carnitas were tender, juicy and paired perfectly with the onions, tomatoes, and beans inside the burrito. The burrito wrap was made of flour, tasty, but i still added guacamole, sour cream, and the spicy red sauce that came with the meal. French fries were also still crispy (and good) despite keeping them in the container for 15mins. Guacamole was good but I would have preferred saltier. Definitely going for a sit down meal soon. The juke box is a nice feature. Great place, friendly staff, nothing fancy but the red corner spot has some curb appeal. Been coming here for years but never given a review (not sure why). I'm the first to admit hat my standards for Mexican places are on a sliding scale. For Connecticut, this place was among the better choices. But first: they have a jukebox. With Mexican favorites. And for a buck, people can play them. Over and over and over again. Which would be fine except it's loud! Even the waitress apologized (um, maybe turn it down?). And service is a bit spotty. Can I get the check? Some water? But fortunately the food is very good. And they don't skimp on the spice. The medium is a "hot". Glad I didn't get the Diablo! Enjoyed the enchiladas. Big portions and the beef is more like strip steak. Good stuff. The quesadillas are also stuffed. Big portions. And nice rice and beans. And when locals come here in droves (many conversing in Spanish with the staff) you know it's a winner. read more

Yelpers you have failed me! Well that's what I have to say after ordering the "Fajita a la Mexicana" and then after the first bite into the beef, pondering if this is good beef or not? It didn't taste good then, and it didn't feel good after. The only thing I can say is that luckily I ate the beef sporadically. Enough of the Beef, but the rice and beans that came with it were actually good, but the bland taste of the whole dish left me disappointed. The waitress was actually pretty nice, and tried her best to make the food sound exiting. The only good thing bout the whole dinning experience was that their sauces, both red and green, are very delicious and spicy. It is in a shady neighborhood as others yelpers have noted. Pancho's Tacos in Down town Danbury has been the apple of my eye for many years since I've heard nothing but good from this Mexicana restaurant. I came in here as a party of 5 on a Friday night and had about a 2 minute wait. No problems, the floor itself is small and can only support so many. Upon sitting down, we waited around 5-10 minutes before ordering water and drinks. Looking around it was not extremely crowded that day and in all retrospect the staff should have been a bit more attentive. I started with a Cadillac Margarita and an appetizer of Panchos Nachos. The drink was a ridiculously high count of tequila which would have been great if the concoction went down smoother than just ordering it on the rocks. The nachos came out, shredded chicken drenched in a sour cream/guacamole mix which proved to be lacking in anything except the two previous toppings. Needless to say the portion was big which is a crowd-pleaser. It was only about another 30 minutes after the appetizer arrived to our table when we realized that we hadn't ordered and proceeded to flag the only waitress down. Pollo Al Chipotle for me, an extremely spicy "mole" type dish with steaming hot rice and beans. My mouth was on fire and I loved it minus the fact that the meal had zero taste and the margarita gave it a bitter kick to wash the dish down. Bad pairing on my part yes, however both the drink and the meal proved to be unnecessarily hot and too strong in certain aspects. Taste and service is definitely something Pancho's Tacos needs to work on! read more

Everything about it caught my attention. I've missed authentic Mexican cuisine and I was sadly disappointed. The enchiladas had no flavor whatsoever. The pollo actually tasted like it had been microwaved (everyone knows that taste chicken gets in the microwave). About 15 to 20 minutes. I had chicken, steak, and pork. They were delicious dont get me wrong. The only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 4 is because the tacos were cheap but if you want toppings it is .75 extra per topping per taco. It just didn't feel like a good value. I was really excited to try this place. I moved to New Fairfield from NYC and I've been seriously underwhelmed by the food in the area. Local Mexican food has been particularly disappointing and this place follows the trend. I gave then three stars because they were super nice and the margaritas were good. The food on the other hand was just bad. We got 6 tacos, the choriqueso and a quesadilla. The carnitas and AL pastor was very dry, and definitely the same exact meat. Carnitas is supposed to be juicy, shreddy poke, and this was more like cubed. But insanely dry and bland. The carne enchilada quesadilla was more fat than meat and also devoid of flavor. I'm the type of person who will give a restaurant a second try, but in this case, I'm sorry to say I won't be going back. I guess if I'm craving good Mexican I'll have to head back to the city. read more

I can't believe this place only has 3.5 stars. This is by far, my family's favorite restaurant in the area. The food is so great that we won't go for Mexican food anywhere else, ever. Came here today for my birthday. Our server was delightful, super quick and pleasant. Super fast and nice, he was funny too. He checked in on his a few times to ensure our food came out properly. The food was the best authentic Mexican food I've had. I live about 1.5 hours away but I'll be sure to come back often with my boyfriend. I got the 3 shrimp tacos with the rice and guacamole combo, my bf got the Barbacoa entre which came with rice and beans and we also ordered chili fries. I'm from California so I know good Mexican food. This place was okay. I had heard a lot about the food here from locals so I had to give it a try. I ordered the carne enchiladas plate to go and they gave me the wrong food. Sent me home with carne asada only, it was just okay, I didn't finish it. While I waited for my order to be made in restaurant I asked for a screw driver (1oz vodka & orange) and they gave me it in a shot glass with a splash of orange juice. Maybe it was a miss communication for the whole visit, but I was really looking forward to good mexican and was disappointed. I tried to order online but the website was not working so I had to go in. For the price of the food $$$ as well it was not worth it and I wont be going back. I've been in Texas for going on 9 years, and I still have yet to meet a better taco than the ones they make across the street from the courthouse in Danbury, CT. Their rice and beans are excellent, and topped with their salsa? Fuhgetaboutit. Can't even order that down here. People think you're being a peasant in their fine hole in the wall. Came here tonight with a bunch of my coworkers and was extremely disappointed. The service was lacking and straight up rude. One of the girls got a margarita that she wasn't happy with since it was too salty for her and she asked for a different drink. The waitress laughed it off and didn't do anything. My friend complained again when the waitress came over and again, nothing. Finally she went to the bar and asked for a different drink and she got a sangria (you really can't screw that up). The waitress then came around to get our food orders. She took the order for half the table and then walked away before the other table could order. When she came around again the rest of the table ordered. Before she even walked away she asked the girl that asked for a different drink if "she was sure she wanted to order the salad because they wouldn't change it if she doesn't like it" really?! We couldn't believe she would say something like that since she just assumed we would have another issue. The food came out and wasn't that great - I got chicken tacos and the chicken was super dry like it had been sitting out for a while. The tacos weren't warm or flavorful. Atmosphere can use a little improvement but the food speaks for itself. Great authentic Mexican with a nice variety including great vegetarian options. Order anything "diabla" and your mouth will be on fire! Most restaurant's definition of "spicy" is bland, but this place will make sure you know it's hot and will make it as spicy as you'd like.
