This place was terrible. Only went here because all the bbq places were full. There were only a few other tables but it took forever to get menus, forever to get our order taken, forever to get our check. They screwed up our order. Food was terrible. See info on images. Restaurant looked nice and was very pretty and decorated. Bar area looked nice with nice booths. But food and service was god awful. Sad if this is what the locals think is good Mexican food. read more

I love coming here. The wait staff is a lot of fun and very attentive. The food is solid. I had the Santa Fe burrito and my girl had the birria tacos. The drinks are solid. It would be great if the community embraced Rancho Alegre. That would be very cool. read more

We went for a late lunch and as per usual, almost empty. It's always fun there because whomever is serving me always provides laughter, along with wonderful Mexican food and I went there for the first time on a birthday date 28 years ago. Remember the camaraderie of the employees and try to forget the date, but the food and the experience was definitely remembered! read more

This place has a nice warm feeling to it. The staff is super friendly and the owner is very engaging and always jokes with the customers. They feature authentic Mexican food and all the Americanized favorites as well. I have been here several times, the most recess a week ago for a family dinner with my in-laws. The pollo loco was delicious (I only with there was more of it for the price. Will be back and would recommend this place. read more

Very few Mexican restaurants in the NE have excellent mole and even fewer have pipian sauce. Both are available here along side adobo red sauce (spicy), ranchero (mild) red and tomatillo verde green sauce. This place gets 4 stars for being the best family style Mexican joint anywhere an hour in any direction from here. I am from Southern California and I spent a lot of time camping and surfing in Mexico growing up. I'm a Mexican food snob. I will happily drive from 20 minutes away yr eat here and the staff are really friendly and great with kids also. Jarritos is always a win with kids .... Lol. Order all the basic family stuff here. Chips and Salsa, Enchiladas, Carnitas or Carne Asada plates, Flautas, Nachos. It's all spectacular comfort food and warmly reminds me of home. read more

Service has always been bad but now it's even worse. You have to tell 3 people your order and it still takes forever. Food isn't good anymore either. I will not be coming back there ever. Should've listened to my gut as it's never an easy process there but now it's pretty bad. read more

Very good food, atmosphere, and service. Great local spot. My family and I would definitely go again.

Objectively one of the best Mexican restaurants in Fairfield County. The food is excellent, and the beverages are also good. Service, while slow, is fantastic. The ambience is excellent. I love this restaurant, and would recommend it to anyone who wants Mexican food. read more

My wife and I ate at Rancho Alegre for the first time the other night. Fantastic on every count! My primary Mexican cuisine experience was when I lived not far from the border in Tucson, Az for years but Rancho Alegre beats everything I've eaten before. Very sociable and welcoming, totally casual so wear your jeans. Reservations over the phone are accepted. When you get there say hi to Ron and Mercedes, our wonderful servers and our amazing chef, Arturo.Bring your appetites because the portions are generous and although we had no room for desert we were told that Mercede's Flan is unbelievable. Secret ingredient but I will never tell, lol. Oh, really good drink menu too. Do this, you will be happy! read more

I am a semi professional, Mexican restaurant reviewer. I've been to almost every Mexican restaurant in the state of Connecticut, including many on the border of Mexico in California. Rancho alegre is the most authentic best Mexican food I had in my life. The margaritas are unlike any other and their food is to die for. The staff is kind in the restaurant is beautiful. This is the only restaurant I've ever reviewed that I have nothing bad to say about. It is incredible all around. read more

The food was outrageously expensive for the quality. We ordered tacos that tasted like dog food.

At first after reading some of the other reviews I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant to come in here - but sometimes negative reviews force owners to do a complete 180 and shake things up to improve their business. That is the mark of a good manager / owner. If the other reviews reflect how this place actually was, then this place has a good management staff. I walked in expecting a dump, or even from how it looked on the outside I thought it may even be closed; but, like people, I enjoy giving second chances. So anyway, I walked in and was immediately greeted by someone who was obviously the manager, and the waiter. I wish I would have gotten their names. I was the only customer there that I saw, but it was 2:30pm or so on a Wednesday. I am sure they do good business for lunch and dinner. The two gentlemen that greeted me were EXTREMELY polite, and delivered me a king-size "sir sandwich" before I even ordered anything! The waiter asked me if I would like a window table, to which I replied in the affirmative and he showed me to my seat. Immediately he asked if I wanted anything to drink, I wanted water and said I was already ready to order (that's right ladies, I know what I want! - A vegetarian burrito). The vegetarian burrito came with squash, mushrooms, broccoli, beans and some other stuff and was topped with a tomato base sauce and melted cheese, served with a side of refried beans, rice and lettuce. It was about 8-9$ and very filling. The water also immediately brought over a warm pile of fresh tortilla chips (at least if they weren't fresh I couldn't tell the difference) and yummy pico de gallo salsa. The entire meal was very satisfying, I loved the decor and atmosphere, great customer service and nifty little tidbits like flamboyant sombreros I am assuming they'd let me wear one if I wanted?? I was too shy to ask. Who wants to serve a guy that goes to a Mexican restaurant, asks for a sombrero and sits by himself in a corner!? Creepy. One thing of particular note is that they have the COOLEST salt and pepper shakers in the history of the universe!!!!! They are Coronita bottles with some kind of fabricated rubber top fixated to the top with little holes cut out for the salt and pepper to fall out of. Great idea, I loved it. Give them a chance, I thought they were incredible. They may have some not-so-great reviews in the past, but sometimes a zebra can change it's stripes. That's what Yelp is for anyway, right? :) read more

Great food, service, ambiance, drinks!!! Plenty of value for your $.. Very good music playing in the background. They even have good Mezcal.. A rarity for Mexican restaurants that serve gringos! It would be a mistake for you not to eat in this gem... Highly recommended. Buen provecho! read more

Rancho Alegre Mexican Restaurant - a desert scene - Mexican Near Me - Georgetown, Connecticut

Rancho Alegre is a decent Mexican restaurant. Not fantastic, not sucky either. The food is about average. The first few times I went many years ago it was pretty bad but in the last couple it improved quite a bit. The owners are super, super friendly and make you feel at home. But, unless your home is full of 90 yelling children running around, that quickly wears off. The place is always packed with families and the kids always seem to be screaming for one reason or another. Parents are often too blasted on margaritas to seem to care. Parking is always a pain in GTown so be careful walking down the middle of main street. The parents on margaritas eventually get into their cars... read more

Just way, way too expensive for the quality & quantity. The nachos are, and I'm not joking, 6 flat chips with a dollop of sour cream, some shredded cheese & Pico on them. Like 6 mini tostadas. I've never experienced anything like it. The fajitas are okay but they give you 3 small corn Tortillas with your meal. 3. If you ask for more, that's another 3 for an additional $3 plus tax. I genuinely don't get it. read more

Don't do it. We watched people get up and leave because of the service but we stuck it out. It took over 35 mins for us to order our first drink and ourdrinks were super sugary, they add sugar to their specialty drinks read the menu and the food seemed like it came from a Ortega Kit. They skimped on the meat in the FAJITA TACO SALAD . Two think strips of rare steak. Our waiter was snarky and pressured us to make decisions as we just sat down, and it took over an house to get waters or another round of drinks our waiter disappeared yet it really wasn't busy until we were there a 3rd hour which was ridiculous. We were all happy to leave. I heard they are better when no one is there? I'm not going back to find out. Not with my money .. very disappointing- there are much better places next door to eat. read more

My husband and I had been toying around with trying Rancho ever since we moved to Branchville; but, the reviews kept us away. Luckily we tried it anyway during the snow storm last week! This place was delicious. The atmosphere was festive. The wait staff and owner were phenomenally nice, and tried to make our experience the best possible. The food was beyond tasty (I highly recommend the chicken enchiladas with three different sauces...my husband adored the pork)! Plus, the price was affordable. We will certainly be going back again! read more

I give this place 4 stars because I think of where I am. Im in Georgetown Ct for crying out loud. And i still insist that the best mexican around can be found in Danbury - and i mean better than NYC!
