What a great restaurant in downtown south Norwalk. Plenty of parking lots and on street parking available. I could not believe the size of our dinner meal portions! The meals were huge and 5 of us took part of our meals home! 6 meals with 2 margaritas and 4 non alcoholic beverages for ~$125. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was fantastic! My verse enchilada was so flavorful and despite the little spice I could taste every item in the meal! We had a variety of meals from my shrimp enchiladas to chicken mole enchiladas, a chicken dish, a vegetarian dish and a salmon dish- all delicious! My granddaughter the toddler enjoyed everything immensely!! The restaurant has many tables and a large size bar. They are great for families and small to large parties like ours which was 6 people and a toddler! I plan to return again when visiting with our family from Norwalk! read more

I just moved to the area and saw this place driving through town, it was empty at 5pm. Service was nice and quick and the place has lots of cool art on the walls. The chips and salsa were very fresh with nice heat. To eat we had steak Quesadillas and the shrimp burrito. These meals were about $14 a piece and were PHENOMENAL. We couldn't believe how good and filling the meal was. I also had a mango margarita with sugar rum which was delicious. We finished with churros for dessert. Didn't really get a chance for the entire experience however was annoyed enough to leave. The menu has a notation under fajita that says produced with nuts and almonds. When asked waitstaff about a potential subscription because of a tree nut allergy we were not given any answer we felt uncomfortable and left. We dined for a late lunch. The restaurant was about 10% occupied, so service was quick, consistent, and thorough. We ordered beef tacos and bean tostadas as well as a soda and a tamarindo agua fresca (tamarind beverage). Chips and salsa were complimentary. The salsa was really spicy, which I like, but is unusual. The beef tacos looked more like chorizo than beef but were tasty. The bean tostadas were fresh and flavorful and visually stimulating with the powdered cotija cheese. We'd definitely order both again. The ambiance was great. Music was playing. What a cute place! Came here to meet some friends for brunch. Our original place was packed and ended up here instead. Can never go wrong with Mexican food and this place proved it.. I didn't drink but my friend ordered a margarita and no complaints on her end!. The decor was very nice. Beautiful hand painted art everywhere. Perfect photo backdrop! The waitress told us the place is relatively new and when we came it wasnt crowded but i would imagine it to be a great vibe on a Friday or Saturday night. I ordered the chicken fajita and my friend ordered the shrimp fajita and we both agreed seasoning was on point! The vegetables were not soggy. Everything was just right. Lots of crunchy zucchinis. We found the cantina mexicana after waiting for a table unsuccessfully in another place and decided to give cantina mexicana a try because we were all hungry and you can't go wrong with Mexican food. There was only a few tables occupied so service was quick to greet us and seat us right away. I tried checking in on Yelp but couldn't find it and later found out by the waitress that they opened recently. The decor is colorful and vibrant with mural of Frida Kahlo. So many good choices I opted for a seafood cocktail to start because I was starving. It came out quickly and it was delicious and fresh. For my entree I ordered a shrimp fajita and the shrimp were massive and very well seasoned. My friend got the chicken fajita and said the same thing how well seasoned the chicken and veggies were. My sister tried their tacos and margarita and had zero complaint . We had a great time and definitely would be back. read more

This was our first time to Cantina Mex restaurant here in Norwalk which was formally a restaurant by the name of Bravo Rio. Cantina restaurant has a new interior appearance. Some really beautiful paintings and has this 'Dia del los Muerto' theme. Now to the drinks and food. Wow the drinks were amazingly good (nice and strong like we like 'em lol) and the food was also just as good. Service was excellent! Thomaso owner's son made sure we were taken care of and that we totally appreciated. We definitely recommend. To be fair and honest - Just a couple of cons: bring down the lighting (way too bright blinding the view in some areas). Make it dimmer to have that relaxed effect when dining. Oh the beans, hmmm a bit too watery for my taste but everything else on our plates were great. We'll definitely go back for sure. read more

Stumbled into the "new" cantina UNKNOWINGLY!!! (I frequent Stamford's location) as it was a Mexican themed restaurant under a different name not too long ago.... Rio maybe ..... but the coke temps and blistery winds kept me from seeing the new sign .... anyways. I've eaten at both places numerous times now and I'm happy ! Food is good, drinks are great and service is always on par. The decor keeps your eyes satiated and everything else is good. I don't see any awards being handed out to this location but I'm glad the same new spot fills the Mexican cuisine void as needed. It would have gotten 4 stars but that would've required 2 things. 1- I don't mind anyone scraping the top off of old refrigerated guacamole to make buck ... but you gotta finish the job!! Too many restaurants making this fresh and table side to allow brown spots and obvious fork marks to leave the kitchen. Last pic 2- as we sat down, I asked if the happy hour menu is available and the waiter had told me yes. But the bartender kindly shout it out that it would only get the discount if we sat at the bar. There was only ONE PERSON there besides us. We already sat down. It was cold... windy. We were told yes ... she could have been cool. I would have overlooked the brownish guacamole ..... Plenty of available tables on a Tuesday afternoon. The food was good. The shrimp cocktail, however, was a surprise because it also had squid like edibles and the cocktail sauce was extra sweet. Tacos were OK. The guacamole sauce it was awesome. The ambience was excellent in conjunction with the Cinco de Mayo celebrated in Mexico. Overall a good experience. I would come back. Best part was the atmosphere, everything else was average. Let's start with the ambiance. The place was beautiful. It had a very colorful Mexican cantina vibe with lots of decor and beauty all around. The food was average. There wasn't really anything special about it but it was good. One thing they could do better would be to add combos to the menu so you can have a couple things at once. Instead, they just had the individual meals. Still good though. The prices were good, but they do changes for a second basket of chips and salsa, which is a serious rip off. The chips and salsa were good, but that should be something that is included, especially if you are buying a meal. I was disappointed in that aspect of it. The people were good and the service was fast. The margaritas were a little above average. Not the best I've had in the area, but they definitely pack a punch and are decent quality. I'd pay they extra 3 bucks for the patron one though. If you are this restaurant and looking to improve, maybe try a little less mix in the margaritas, not charging money for chips, and a slightly more authentic feel on the food. Went for lunch today. Very large windows in two walls create nice ambiance. Servers were efficient and helpful. Waitress asked me if I like my Camarone a la Diabla spicy and I said yes. Came with a nice kick. Shrimps were plenty and cooked perfectly. Vegetable enchilada with green sauce was delicious. Margarita Presidente was very good. Overall, a very good experience. Cantina mexicana is Amazing! A must! This dining fully aunthentic restaurant has something for everyone! We came in on a Wednesday lunch around 12pm. Enchiladas and fajitas are amazingly delicious! Drinks are fantastic.Our server, saida brought us chips and salsa (1st basket is complementary)and is addicting deliciousness... although I do want to say I just wish our server would smile more, she's way to serious at the table and rough. I did had to call in on Friday noon to talk to the manager (Selena) she was super nice and apologize on behalf the server. Other than that thank you for opening a second location in norwalk.
