NO LONGER VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY For many, many years, we enjoyed a meal at Villa del Sol. The people were wonderful and the food was fantastic. Then,,,,,,, came the move to the Post Road location and the menu changed. All of the vegetarian options are now gone. The rice contains chicken juice / powder, and some 'veggie' options are cooked with meat. For example, the cauliflower is cooked in the same oil as meat. Most restaurants segregate this now. If you don't care about eating meat and meat oils, it's probably as good as it ever was. read more

I love Mexica. This has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants. The enchiladas banderas, and the chile mixteco are two of my go-to dishes. The food is consistently good! The tres leches for dessert is also really good, if you have room after you eat! read more

Lovely fresh and yummy food. So good I forgot to take pictures. The guacamole was super fresh tasting, with a lot of citrus which is how I like it with warm chips. One friend had the hangar steak and she loved the sauce used for the dish. Other firiend had beef fajitas and took most home as the portion was so big. It smelled great. I got the 3 soft taco platter with a pastor, a carnitas and a shrimp taco with yucca fries. Tacos were terrific! The yucca fries were mixed. The thinner ones tasted better, as the thicker ones didn't taste fully cooked inside. Nicely decorated inside, the chairs are great. Each is carved and bright panted and different. Last minute reservation for 7 on May 11th. Food very good. Everyone had different dishes and we were all very pleased. Service was also very good. And the ambiance was a cute - Mexican look. Welcome Back!! The next generation of the iconic Villa del Sol is back in Westport and none too soon. Many of the items that made Villa such a stand out spot in town are still on the menu....the Chicken Mole is back....'nough said. The most important recipe to this incredibly wonderful spot is the people and they're back too. What does it say about a restaurant, their commitment to their food and to their customers when they launch in the middle of a Pandemic. We dined in and it was spectacular. The cars coming and going for take-out was unbelievable. The amazing hand-carved chairs and tables are back and it just feels like home. This family-friendly spot can still accommodate large parties and does so, as always, with a smile. We went as a party of 2 for an early dinner and had a choice of sitting indoor or outdoor. The restaurant hasn't changed its decor from taking senor salsa so we were greeted with familiarity. The menu isnt too big which makes it a bit easier to order. The food was delicious and the service was friendly. I would definitely tell them how I like my meats cooked or else everything will come well done. All of our drinks were virgin and I promise you they tasted so good that we didn't miss this alcohol. Loved the food here! I moved to Norwalk 3 years ago and have found the Mexican food to be really hit or miss. This place was great! The quac was excellent though a bit cold. Mole sauce was delicious. Chips=delicious. The cheese empanadas were great but it was really the mole sauce that did it for me. It was a bit on the sweet side but had a nice spicy little kick. Will return. We ended coming here since our attempt at finding dining options. Sat at the bar since table seating was not available and directed by hostess. Quite frankly the restaurant was not full, so we opted for the empty bar for dinner. The bar tender came up to us pretty abruptly and pushed the mixed drinks on menu with no pricing. When I asked for prices he said they ranged in pricing without definite answers. We ended up ordering 2 Margaritas. He hastily was not overjoyed with having to serve us at the bar, with utter chaos of him mixing nonstop drinks and difficult getting his attention. There was a moment I wanted to leave, but kept my cool! Ordered the birria nachos and chicken tacos! The meat on both cooked well, and the nachos were just ok! Open until 9 on Sunday. Lucky for us because we had a friend in town and wanted to grab a late dinner. We started with the guacamole. It was chilled, a little colder than my preference, but the flavor was very good, well balanced, fresh cilantro, mild, but noticeable kick of spicy heat. The chips were warm. My friend ordered the beef chimichanga. She said it was well spiced and shredded beef. My fiancé and I shared the mole cheese enchiladas. The mole was ever so slightly sweet with just enough heat. We had to keep ourselves from licking the plate. If I had any more room after the generous portions, I would have ordered dessert because the table across from us had some fried, sugared deliciousness that caught my eye. Maybe next time. This place replaced another Mexican food restaurant in the same spot prior, and we drove by for a couple months before we decided to try it. Ordered takeout from here tonight. The food was excellent. We had the enchiladas Suiza which was very flavorful and not overly heavy like a lot of enchiladas can be. The cheese was authentic and not a goopy mess. It was delicious. My boyfriend had a beef burrito and he said it was great. The real treat was the churros! The online takeout menu didn't describe them and we were surprised they were not only cream filled (yum!) but also came with chocolate sauce and ice cream. Mexica (pronounced Meh-SHE-kah) has the ONLY good Mexican food in Westport, Connecticut! This place is not some hipster nonsense. It is the real deal with delicious Mexican food cooked from the heart. I say this as someone who ranks Mexican cuisine as one of my top favorites. The owners formerly owned Westport's Villa Del Sol years ago, and now they are back and better than ever! You can tell how much passion the owners have for their culture and it truly shines through in their food. You MUST get the guacamole--it is delicious and done right! We also enjoyed the taquiza platter and a molcajete. The salsas that came with the tacos were delicious and the red salsa is for spicy-lovers. The menu truly has something for everyone with many authentic Mexican dishes, a few Tex-Mex dishes, and even some Latin American and Caribbean dishes. We also really enjoyed the yuca fries and the tostones. You MUST get the fresca margarita! You have not truly tried a margarita until you have one! Trust me, you will never go back to a regular one after trying this one! We got take out, but the inside of the restaurant looked truly beautiful and I look forward to eating in the dining room in the future. Proper COVID precautions were taken. The service is friendly. This is not villa de Sol. Over priced & under impressed. We ordered everything off the specials menu (around thanksgiving) and it was just ok. Drinks were more sugar than alcohol ... tacos were a solid 4 stars but our main course was cold. I mean really cold in the middle. It was some special Mexican holiday stuffed pablano and IT WAS OBVIOUSLY MICROWAVED ... and poorly at that. We were starving and the kitchen Was closing shortly upon arrival (in mike 25 mins - im not that guy:) so we powered through it. The SUGAR (theme ?) cream sauce on toP was bad & very cold and it was our take that this was the way it's served. But only the outside of the actual pepper was warm ... and only the beef on the outside was acceptably warm. NO WHERE NEAR proper serving temperature for the rest of the beef throughout the pepper. Then the main inside middle of the Pepper and it's stuffing were legitimately cold. Fridge cold. We ate .. I drank enough tequila to kill anything so I just mentioned to the bartender that the $25 pepper was cold and she should tell the manager to be careful serving ground pork and beef (I think) at that temperature. I completely explained up front I wasnt asking for a refund or anything but managers needed to know She said ok and went to talk to an older group or workers at the corner of the bar. Obviously they were insulated. The scowls were apparent and unneeded. She retuned later with an explanation that the dish is served that way. She explained the sauce is cold and it cools off the pepper. Something she obviously didn't know right away .... But I explained to her that the MEAT WAS COLD. THE MEAT !!! to which she looked shocked. I said to her I already told you you we weren't asking for a refund but that was a terrible excuse .... on all their parts. Another major issue is that WE spoke to the bartender in Spanish the entire evening and she would only respond in English. No matter the question .... Or comment. But then she only spoke Spanish to everyone else working. I have been studying, learning and practicing regularly and it was simply obnoxious. I actually didn't think she spoke Spanish, to which I was embarrass until I heard here going back and forth with other workers. It just made us uncomfortable. It's a shame ... because I believe the owner and his lil' baby girl where cleaning up after a. Very large party in the front room. He was very pleasant and her adorable. It would have been the kind of place I'd like to spend my money. Maybe the older veteran cocky staff will learn to respect and appreciate their customers ... maybe not. Otherwise it's still a great taco hole although the Northeast isn't lacking any of those. read more

How the mighty have fallen! I used to love Villa del Sol so i dont know what changed in the move. Went there saturday at 5pm before the rush but the service was slow even though there were plenty of servers walking around. We didnt get our drinks for a while so i went to the bar but there was no bartender! Both of our entries were served cold, yes cold, even though there were many empty tables for a saturday night. So cold, i couldnt finish mine and obviously cant comment on the flavor. With so many good mexican options in Westport, this has now gone to the bottom of the list and maybe friends and family should stop writing bias reviews. So sad. read more

I had the veggie burrito bowl which was fresh and had a nice mixed sauté vegetable medley with rice, avocado, cheese, beans. My mom got a steak taco salad and loved it. The steak burrito is probably one of the best burritos I've ever had -- and I'm from NYC! Rice and beans are great, tostones are fire as well. My wife and I went to Mexica last Friday and we were completely disappointed with the service and the food. First it took about 20-30 mins for a waiter to take our orders took another 30 mins to get the food. We both ordered the skirt steak and lobster dish. The steak was less than 3" and the lobster tail smell bad. When the waiter finally came to see how we were doing, we told him to tell the chef that the lobster smell bad. He then went into the kitchen and came back his response was that it is impossible that the lobster is fresh. Little did he know my wife is a executive chef when she try to correct him he insisted that the lobster was fresh. On top of all this the food had zero taste and we didn't eat the lobster.
