We picked a random place in Norwalk Connecticut and it worked out fine. It was a nice cozy spot with great food and friendly staff. The menu is not extensive but it covers the basics. I ordered the red sangria and it was pretty good, not too sweet and had a nice blend. Then you can't go wrong with guacamole and chips. It was a beautiful presentation. The guacamole was seasoned to perfection. I also ordered the spicy beef empanadas with yuca fries. The empanadas wasn't that spicy and the yuca fries had a nice crispness to it. The rest room was very charming and gave a nice relaxation vibe. Overall, this was a nice spot and I would definitely come back again.

After almost 2 years of writing Yelp reviews, some events, and even a few new friends, it is finally time to write my century-mark review! For my 100th review, I wanted to pick something special for me. Though it was my first time visiting this place, I knew about from them following me on Instagram. Once combined with the Yelp rating and location, I knew I had been wanting to give these guys a visit. And so, Alma Bistro becomes my 100th review! Because I was on my lonesome, I was able to just take a seat at the bar, something I have always come to appreciate as an adult. I actually had 3 different people tending to me: 2 waitresses and 1 waiter. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and helpful. I had actually asked about the "pp" by one of the menu items, and truth be told, they are talking about "per person" here! Helpful and great at their jobs! In fact, when I was ordering my food, one of my waitresses gave a special mention to another appetizer, those being the tuna tostada. It's not something I normally eat, but I figured why not! Trusting the employees can sometimes lead you to finding new favorites, and it shows that they really put their thought out when dealing with customer service. It doesn't look like much outside, but it's actually a different story inside! Plants help bring it even more life here, you get that casual feel when eating out, and even the bathrooms are clean! It's definitely a spacious place once you're inside. I did the full course here, which came out to $95.54 before leaving a $20.25 tip. The total therefore was $115.79. Definitely more of a treat than a place to come to every day, but I like it like that for reasons you'll soon find out. So for my appetizers, I had the aforementioned tuna tostada as well as the birria tacos. Those birria tacos are to DIE for! Came out hot, juicy, and just truly divine. The consume was flavorful and seasoned perfectly! Don't skip on these! As for the tostadas, they wouldn't be something I'd normally choose, but WOW was I impressed! These were tasty sons of guns, garnished with a plantain chips and give a spicy kick thanks impart to the jalapeños that garnish the plate. The presentation was superb too! For my entree, I almost went with the $35 Argentinian dish, but my instincts told me I HAD to try the Steak Chimichurri. I must say, that steak is without question one of the best steaks I'd ever had! I had mine medium-well, and it was juicy, seasoned perfectly, great crust that compliments the steak, you name it! It was absolutely HEAVEN on a wooden plate! You're given the yucca frites to go along with it, and these were good as well. The fries were the weakest part, but they were still good with that light, airy goodness. You just need that dipping sauce to elevate it and you're golden. For dessert, the gluten-free chocolate mousse cake! Actually, one of my waitresses Laura had to ask her manager if they were available to order, and luckily they were. You're given a tall slice of a chocolate layered cake with a strawberry drizzle on top and another case of great presentation! This slice slayed and was the perfect thing to end of this dinner. I also got their special menu Tropical Mule, and you have this pineapple garnish, kind of like the limes you might get in a Corona. The cup you get it in keeps the drink cold by not melting the ice quite so fast. Another case where it was worth every penny and then some. I love a good tropical drink and this one tasted great! Sweet enough to be tropical, but not overly sweet to where it can be off putting. Of course Alma is getting a 5! This was the perfect spot for me to take on my 100th review, and I hope you all have enjoyed your journeys on Yelp as much as I have so far. Many more great Yelp moments to come!

Food was good and there was a good selection of choices from small plates to dessert and drinks. There is street parking, so heads up.

Alma Bistro has the best happy hour! The staff is friendly and helpful, the ample portions of delicious food make dining in downtown Norwalk very special - and affordable.

This is the first restaurant I can truly say earned 5 stars. The restaurant was clean, cute and inviting. This restaurant is located in the heart of Wall Street in Norwalk with plenty of street parking and a garage around the corner. The staff was very attentive with great attitudes. They checked in on us frequently to make sure we were good or if we needed anything else and the service was quick. Special Shoutout to the Chef! He, aside from cooking the amazing meals, came to check in on us as well. The food was just amazing! They had a variety of small dishes on the menu that make it perfect to dine tapas style if that's what you prefer. They also have larger entrees for bigger appetites. The ribeye a la plancha would have to be my favorite. The chimichurri sauce was so delicious and the ribeye was cooked to perfection! My guests were very fond of the special of the today which was a cauliflower cheesy dish. I would love to return for dinner and try the rest of menu. I cannot recommend this place enough and will be including it in my usual rotation.

We stopped in for a late lunch and essentially had the place to ourselves. The restaurant was very bright and vibrant. As soon as we got in the staff was very pleasant and sat us right away. The hostess and waiter were very nice and helpful. For our meal my girlfriend had the birra tacos which were very tasty. I had the steak with chimichurri sauce. It was cooked at a perfect medium temperature. My steak was served with yucca fries which were tasty. I also had a side order of Brussel sprouts which were perfectly cooked. The meal was delicious; to end the meal we had a dessert called milhojas which translates to a thousand leaves. It was delicious, puff pastry with crème anglaise and berries. It was so good.

I've been meaning to try Alma Bistro for months, and we finally made it Saturday night for a girls night! The restaurant was packed! We didn't make reservations, but there was a table top near the bar that was open, so we grabbed that. We arrived hungry, and were ready to devour the delicious looking menu! We ordered the yuca croquetas, stuffed with chorizo - so delicious and perfectly fried. I'm a lover of shaved Brussels sprouts, and this salad brought a delicious new flavor profile to my usually mix - for fans of cilantro and fried apricots! We also ordered the shrimp ceviche which was not what I was used to, but had a nice flavor! The chimichurri steak was great paired with the yuca fries! Honestly, though, the platanos were the hit of the table - a hint of sweetness mixed with the golden brown fry, topped with a white cheese and mayo. Perfection The tres leches was a nice finisher, but we were so stuffed by this point! I highly recommend checking out this delicious restaurant, and make sure to make reservations!

Talk about last minute birthday decisions! So last year on my birthday I had a friend order…read moretakeout and we had it at their house. This year for my 35th, I was on my own for dinner this time around. That being said, I think I found a winner here to celebrate my 35th birthday. Say hello to Lazy Sister, located in the heart of South Norwalk where the restaurant scene comes alive! Because I was a single coming in, I was seated right away, no reservation needed. They were even kind enough to place my bag in the atrium so that I wouldn't have it in the way. I was seated at a table set for two, but it's a good thing I guess that I came on my own. First thing I notice upon coming in is that it is a very classy restaurant, not your typical dim sum joint. It's also not a big space, but that's fine by me. Honestly, this would make a great date night spot for anyone going out on a date. Funny enough, I was actually suggested this place by my friend the night I went to Jacob's Pickles. For reasons I am about to get to, I am glad I decided not to come here until a later date. So why would I say that? Well, because tonight, my order consisted of two Junmai Genshu "Little Sumo" sakes as well as the Salt & Pepper Calamari, a medium level Dry Fry Style Szechuan Chicken, and then the Fortune Cookie Soft Serve for dessert. Not only did I pay more here, but I also got more inebriated here than I did at Jacob's Pickles. But it's my birthday, so tonight it's not in my contract to care. You only live once, and I am already in like the middle of my life, so it all evens out, right? Speaking of the food, everything I ate was immaculate! The calamari was seasoned perfectly, vegetables were cooked and crisp, the spice from that Szechuan didn't overpower. It was more like a pleasant tingle, especially when mixed with water or sake. Everything was done just right. And that soft serve cooled me down in just the right way. Delicious and well worth finishing off the night! And while there were other drinks that definitely looked good, I couldn't say no to sake. That's like THE ultimate celebratory drink far as I'm concerned, and it was awesome! If you were wondering about the service, these people are quite friendly. They help you through anything you might need. While I waited a while to tell them, I did eventually tell my waitress it was birthday while I was on dessert. Cool enough, we are both Tauri! I love it when I get to talk to another Taurus! :) The bill was also why I am glad I waited for another occasion to come here. Because I decided to splurge, the affair was about $100 once tip was factored in. It was well worth it, and tonight's outing will definitely make for a fun story to tell. But 34 was a hard year. I deserve to let loose every now and then, and hopefully 35 will be a happier age. All in all, a great restaurant and well worth the money to come here.

The bartender was knowledgeable and I trusted him with recommendations. We ordered egg rolls and the wontons in chili oil. Everything was tasty, wish the chili oil was more spicy but the flavor was amazing. Day two I sat at a table and ordered the cherry cola, veggie lo mien, and crispy beef. My friends ordered the spring rolls, sesame chicken, and chicken and broccoli. The server accidentally put in a plain lo mien but it was quickly fixed. Both were tasty but it was better with veggies. All entrees were okay. It's your typical local American Chinese food cuisine and I didn't taste or see any difference to it? It did taste a bit more fresh but I wouldn't order again. Overall, the service was good and the ambiance is nice. I prefer this place as a restaurant for yummy drinks and apps before dinner or after work.

I'm no foodie but I am Chinese/Japanese and can appreciate finer things in life when I see it. This place meet and exceeded my expectations. The wonderful speak-easy tamaki-ya room in the back is warmly lit and held at a nice volume, much quieter than the izakaya bar in the front. For small bites we had the Beet n Hijiki salad (highly recommend!), Agedashi tofu, and Torched Maine uni. For hand-rolls I had the Spanish Mackerel, Hokkaido Scallops, Ocean Trout, BBQ Eal & Foie Gras, and Cucumber ume. My wife had the Maine Uni, Hamachi, and Botan Ebi. Everything was good, but there were quite a few that were very good, and there were two that, for me, were the best that I've ever had in recent memory. For the Spanish Mackerel Chef Taibe put an interesting spin on it by topping it off with a traditional Chinese ginger and scallion garnish used in a tender chicken dish. It works, it balances out the briny taste of Spanish Mackerel... which is great... unless you LOVE the briny, savory, mineral, metallic, umami taste of fresh Spanish Mackerel :) The Hokkaido Scallops was, by quite a large margin, the best scallop dish I've ever had. The tender sweetness of the fresh scallop combined with a brown butter kewpie (how American!) and yuzu tobiko sauce swimmingly. Texture, temperature, taste, all perfect. I like eel and I love Unaju. But by far the biggest surprise was the BBQ Eal & Foie Gras (see pic). This dish alone warrants a culinary course. On the face of it, bbq, eel, foie gras all sets you up for something rich, filling, heavy. But when I bit into the unassuming hand roll, it was the lightest bite of Japanese rice/seafood/seaweed/liver/sauce combo I've ever had. Turns out Chef Taibe prepared the sauce from scratch using five+ different spices, and prepared the foie gras au torchon. I could go on, but suffice to say, this was one of the best bites I've ever had. By contrast, I thought I was going to close out with the cucumber ume roll, but compared to the eel and foie gras, the ume actually felt more overpowering. Perhaps if they cut back on the generous amount of ume paste... (Worthy mention: Chef Taibe presents the nori in a separate envelope. This seemingly simple step is crucial to the taste and mouthfeel of the hand roll. It provides a wonderful fresh crisp crunch to every bite and it does indeed make a difference. He mentioned he sources a special nori but I forgot the details, just know that it's really good) My wife loves uni, and I'll let her describe her experience (which she won't) but it was so good she had to order a second one. As if you need more convincing, we had a great experience and I think you will too. Bravo Chef, well done

The cocktail program is seriously one of the best in the area. Creative without being gimmicky, balanced, and clearly inspired by Japanese ingredients and technique. Every drink feels thoughtful and well executed -- the kind of place where you actually want to work your way through the menu. The food is where it really shines. The chef-owner's love of Japanese cuisine comes through in every detail. The yakitori program is outstanding and deeply traditional -- using all parts of the chicken the way it's done in Japan. It's respectful, intentional, and absolutely delicious. You don't often see that level of authenticity and execution locally. The bar bites are some of the best around. The fried chicken sando is one of my personal favorites -- perfectly crispy, juicy, balanced, and craveable. And the ramen? No one can hold a candle to it. The broth is deeply flavorful and layered, the noodles are spot on, and every topping feels purposeful. It's the kind of bowl you think about the next day. Perhaps the best kept secret in all of Norwalk is the back room -- the elegant Temaki-Ya. Tucked away behind an unmarked entrance, this intimate hand-roll bar feels almost like discovering a hidden Japanese speakeasy. The atmosphere is quiet and refined, the kind of place that's perfect for a special date night or a memorable evening with friends. The temaki (hand rolls) are beautifully composed, with thoughtful ingredient combinations that balance texture, flavor, and visual appeal. What makes this place special is the dual experience -- lively izakaya vibes in the front, elegant hand-roll bar in the back -- all tied together by serious culinary skill and genuine hospitality. Norwalk is lucky to have this spot.
