    Crab Rangoon Croquettes
    Christina S.

Finally got the chance to check out their izakaya and absolutely loved the space! It's open and welcoming. Their ordering system is QR code based which I'm not really a fan of but the food did come out fast! The show stoppers were the crab Rangoon croquettes, Karaage onigiri and the yuzu bar. I only tried one cocktail which was the whassup and personally I did not love it. The burnt honey called to me but the wasabi tonic was extremely overpowering. I also felt the chimichurri on the pork belly yakimono was overpowering as well, but a lot of their other items are fantastic and maybe it was an off day for those items! I'd definitely return as there's so many things to try still!! I'm still thinking about the yuzu bar!

Such a cool addition to the Wall Street area!! When you enter the restaurant you are greeted by arcade classics from your childhood. The service was all you could want from your local bar and restaurant! They have great recommendations on what to try on the menu and great to chat with! I recommend the Kara Age Chicken!! Mmmmmm mmmmm I've never taste chicken so tender and the sauce was the perfect compliment to bring it all together. Don't forget to try the fresh sashimi, a Japanese staple! Shhhh! You didn't hear from me but they also have a cheeky speakeasy upstairs.

Everything in the back room was amazing quality. I'm honestly so impressed with all of the ingredients -- I even enjoyed the uni which I've previously not been a fan of. Chef Jeff does it again.

We've been to Bar Bushido 6x now and we'll keep coming back! The food, drinks and service are incredible. The front room is a really cool chill vibe and the back room is more of a date night vibe. Highly recommend both of them! We love coming to see Kevin & Kylie at the bar. They're the best! A must try place in Norwalk.

Ok not even finished - barely halfway through devouring this menu and I'm in LOVE!! I was missing Taproot Next Door and I forgot all about it - granted completely different cuisine but holy Moses - this space is amazing (we sat at the bar). I feel no hiccups with the opening, if anything the food comes out too fast (but it goes down equally fast) and the QR code ordering is something to get used to but anyway ... Congrats Chef and team - I feel like I'm in Manhattan right now - something this cool and delicious in Norwalk is definitely a belated Christmas gift! Stay tuned for details on the food! **pork katsu pocket - so delish I had a second one for dessert sans caviar - I dreamt about it last night too lol** Try all the yakimono - you won't be disappointed! I think I prefer the tare over salt but still delicious. The jerky is such a fun presentation and amazing flavor - not salty. Agedashi tofu - perfect pillows melt in your mouth with nice little crisp and delicate sauce. I had a lot of fun with the tasty scallop "make your own" temaki and ended up scooping the rest straight out of the bowl into my mouth hole.

Service, ambiance, and food are top notch. Started off in the front room izakaya bar with a Suntory highball and a few of their delicious yakitori. The chicken skin was tender but crispy, and the chicken thigh was so juicy. After this light bite, went over to the back room for the temaki-ya, hand roll bar experience. No need to head into the city, because a great hand roll bar experience is right here in Norwalk! They have some really creative combinations, and the fish is quite fresh. I particularly enjoyed the mackerel, scallop, and squid. Also, 10/10 for the Melon Martini. Come to Bar Bushido for a great dinner and date night!

Pros: I love the QR code system and how you can just pay for yourself without having to split bills with friends. FOOD COMES OUT SUPER FAST it's awesome. Staff is friendly and will answer all questions. Super interesting selection of cocktails. I've been there three times already. Cons: I wish their food portions were a bit bigger given the prices you pay, but the Karaage Chicken is a good shareable portion. My only real complaint is the music is too loud every time, and that's coming from someone who loves music playing at restaurants, stores, offices, etc. When you go do dinner with someone you want to be able to talk to them and not have to shout. Also the drink pictured here, I forgot what it was called but I don't recommend this one. Was advertised as a sort of coconut-milk calpico tamarind cocktail but only tasted like pineapple juice and ice.

A welcome new addition to the dining experience in the area. I have tried both the Izakaya in front and the temakiya in the back. The food all round was amazing and the ambiance in both sections top notch. Overall service in both sections was equally amazing.

    Fernanda F.

I had such an amazing time --it wasn't just about the food (which was absolutely incredible), but the whole experience. I got to enjoy the best temaki I've ever had, perfectly fresh and flavorful, while chatting with a friendly Japanese guy who made the experience even more authentic and memorable, best Japanese rice ever ( I could bring him home ). There's something special about connecting over great food and good conversation. Barbushido really nailed it with both.

I wouldn't recommend the Yaki Onigiri, despite reading positive reviews for it. The fried rice was way too heavy and didn't taste good. The greasiness was competing with the strong taste of the salmon. Some servers knew their job well, and greeted us at the door. A newer server wasn't as knowledgeable on gluten free options there and also didn't take away our used appetizer plates before serving us the mains. Not a huge deal, but it does make a difference in your dining experience and how the flow of your meal goes.

It is the kind of place that works perfectly for a casual date night or a comforting dinner when you are craving something rich and flavorful. We started with the agedashi tofu and Sapporo, which was a great way to ease into the meal. The tofu was lightly crisp on the outside and silky inside, sitting in a savory broth that balanced sweetness and umami nicely. Paired with a cold Sapporo, it set the tone for a solid evening. My girlfriend ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen, which came out steaming and fragrant. The broth was creamy and pork forward with a steady heat that built gradually without overwhelming the palate. The noodles had a nice chew and the toppings were well portioned. I went with the mazemen, which was bold and satisfying. Rich sauce coating thick noodles, topped with a perfectly jammy egg and fresh scallions for brightness. It was hearty and full of flavor, the kind of dish that leaves you full and content. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, with dim lighting and a laid back energy that encourages you to settle in. Service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. The only reason this lands at four stars instead of five is that while everything was very good, it did not quite reach that unforgettable level. Still, it is a dependable spot for quality ramen in Norwalk.

I have also never been to a sake bar. Have to say....I was underwhelmed. We came in last Friday and apparently it was slow because Yale was off (according to our waiter). If a restaurant is good they should not be slow on a Friday night. We sat by the door on a cold night and there were two other couples practically on top of us. Rest of the seating are high tops against a wall by the bar or up the stairs on another level. We would have liked to sit upstairs but they were closing off that area. Menu was complex as the restaurant is authentic Japanese. Lots of beef options. Lots of Wagyu. I was hoping to be blown away by this restaurant trying something different. I was struggling trying to find something to order that sounded appetizing. I knew going in that this place was authentic Japanese but I don't know, nothing sounded great to me. I love mushrooms so I got the Mixed Kinoko Mushroom appetizer which was $15. To add scallops was another $8. Mushrooms were tasty. Scallops were not. $23 for a small dish. I also got the pork short ribs. Not a ton of meat on them, however, nice flavor. I was still hungry after this so I ordered a dessert which was the best part of the meal. They get some of their desserts from Hen & Heifer which is a well established place in Guilford. I got the Ube Panna cotta. Boyfriend got the Black cod Yu-an Yaki and upgraded to add the salad, pickles and rice for $3 more. The pickles were maybe two bites. Salad tasty but again, very small. He said the cod was just ok too. Very small portions and pricey for what you get. $30 for a mini sake flight. Not impressed with how it was served either. Small tasting glasses just placed on the table with no description. The server explained which was which, but I didn't remember. Not sure if he didn't care or this is how it's normally served, but if you go to a wine bar/brewery, they provide descriptions with flights usually written underneath the glass, or at least serve it in something. Not just tiny glasses placed on a table where you have no idea what you're having. Especially for $30! I was not impressed with this place whatsoever. As this is part of a newer restaurant group with a few different locations nearby in New Haven, we then went to their cocktail Lounge on crown street (116 Cocktail Bar) thinking it might be better, however we were equally disappointed. It was dead in there and the bartenders were miserable. They couldn't wait to get out of there. I have heard that their hand roll bar is very good (Handroll on State St). We have been to their Grocery Store called The Loop and it's cute. They have a brunch at the Grocery/Kitchen location that looks really good. They also have a wine lounge at The Loop that I'd like to try.

The meat and vegetables were well- seasoned not salty. Portion size was very satisfying, definitely enough to enjoy at a later time. We usually don't leave room for dessert but today we made an exception and went all in. The Oolong Tea Cheesecake was delicate, with light flavors and a smooth texture. The Momo Musu and the Mango Mousse Bear were exceptional. We immediately enjoyed the Peach and Mango flavors, the overall presentation, and the fresh fruit and whipped cream that accompanied it. They were grilled and seasoned well. I really liked the Fried Kaki (aka kaki fry, fried oysters). The breaded oysters were tender, fresh & juicy. We also shared Chicken Yakiudon, Yakiniku Don & Pork Katsu Don. The yakiudon was very good and the katsu was crispy and generously sized. I did not like the sauce on the beef in yakiniku don.
