We had guest visiting and we always pass by this place so we thought, why not give it a shot!? It was a cold rainy day so we ran in not knowing what to expect. I think this is an awesome distillery and I can see it being even more fun in warmer weather! This place is know for whiskey and rye. A nice whiskey distillery with a bar/tasting room and nice outdoor seating by the stream. I love the beautiful ambiance of the outdoor seating area - its flanked by trees and you can listen to the gurgling sounds of the stream while enjoying your drinks. This distillery is also has grounds you can walk around and explore (not too big though). We took a peek at their aging/storage room with wooden casks while there, as well as their distillery. We were treated to a free, small sample of their whiskey at their bar. Its a nice stop when in upstate NY area. read more

Went for my first time in years and it's under new ownership, and a bit different of a vibe, but great still. They don't serve food but they have a food truck outside. Inside, service was great and drinks were made quickly and at a good price. I had a beet vodka drink and a rocket pop lemonade. I was happy with my drinks. What really makes the is place though is the outdoor area. You can sit and watch the water. It was not that busy when I was there and it was so tranquil. Cute old distillery! We just stopped in after visiting nearby Benmarl Winery. The rep.Liz mentioned the historic house dates back to (If I heard correctly) "1788" (Wowza!) The house does look very old from the outside. In addition, there's a Taco Truck in front of the distillery. The tacos were pretty good. The distillery had outside seating area by a creek. I've never done a whiskey flight. The Hudson Valley whisky flight for 6 vials was about $20. It was extra $3.00 for a the 7 year old whisky sample. The 7 year old was my favorite. It had a nice smooth taste!. During our visit, we met the house cat "Bourbon". He appeared very relaxed. We did go home with souvenir glasses. My girlfriend and I came here for a quick whiskey tasting, and we enjoyed ourselves very much. Our bartender (forgot her name, but she was lovely) was extremely knowledgeable and helped guide us into choosing the 6 spirits we could try. We ended up doing 3 and 3 and sharing the vials. You also get complimentary rocks glasses. We had a fun experience trying the spirits but what really made us enjoy the place was the specialty cocktails they have, and the personalities of the employees. Everyone working there was so friendly and welcoming and we felt right at home. I wish I had written down the names of the drinks we had, but one of them was like a breakfast cocktail in terms of taste (bacon, pancakes, maple syrup, and even had a whole egg in it as well). The other was one with ginger beer and apple vodka. We loved both of our drinks. They tasted fantastic and had beautiful presentation. This place was lovely overall. Again, as much as we liked our tasting, it was the interaction with the employees and the cocktails that really stood out. The ambiance of the bar added to that. It was clean, quiet, and relaxing. Next time we plan to do the full tour of the distillery, which we didn't have time to do that day. Definitely check them out! read more

Wow- amazing place for having a leisurely afternoon tasting. You can order a flight to taste but they come in tubes you can actually bring home to taste later along with a cup from them. Ordered an old fashioned from the bar and it did not disappoint. All the staff was so friendly and gave suggestions as to what to order, when one drink was not liked, they immediately made something else, no problems. Didn't get a chance to eat there but the spirits are world class and the staff was delightful. They helped us choose the right bottles to take with us on our way to Wildflower Farms and they even discounted what we bought because apparently they have a partnership. Inside it's amazing to look at - given they were previously a small operation before being bought out by one of the big players in the beverage industry. We visit here a few times a year from Long Island. The staff is always pleasant and the drinks delicious. However, this time when we checked out, we learned we couldn't leave a tip on the card and that the servers could only receive cash tips. We rarely have cash in this day and age. I don't know many people who do. Needless to say, we couldn't leave a tip which was beyond embarrassing for us since we are big tippers. This historic home is nestled at the end of a street along a sleepy winding creek but with plenty of parking. We were excited to stop here on our way home from Woodstock. They are doing everything by the books- temp check, partitions inside, and also have an outdoor patio for tastings. The staff was lovely, I wish I had asked for their names--we received thorough explanations of all the tasting options and differences in the whiskey and rye. The tastings are provided in small glass vials and you get a tasting glass to take home which is nicer than most you receive at other distilleries. We ordered chips to eat with the tasting and walked away with a bottle of the short stack that I've just used to make an old fashioned. It's perfect! If you are nearby, make a stop here. Years ago a friend gave us a tasting of Hudson Whiskey NY whiskey. We are traveling in the area so we decided to stop and have a tasting. We were not disappointed. We had 5 tastings and a glass for $12 and then I ordered the drink in the picture. Very different and delicious. I must learn how to make this at home. My relationship with whiskey is on the rocks. Ok, so I'm not a big whiskey drinker or connoisseur but I have to say this place just opened up the whiskey door to me! Came here for our 6th year anniversary and I was not disappointed. Made some reservations for me and the hubby as a surprise and they sure took care of us. Did the distillery tour and tasting and seriously had such an amazing time. They truly explain the whole process to you and it's so much fun trying 3 different whiskeys while you're at it. The best part is you can buy some to take home AND you get to keep your cool whiskey glasses. I was a little bummed that the restaurant was closed til further notice but they did have a little snack section outside to purchase some things. I had packed a little romantic picnic with some bread, cheese and olives so we just brought a blanket, found a good spot to relax and enjoyed our time. I do have to say it's nice to go here when it's kind of chilly and sun out to be able to get the best out of it. Great experience, will definitely come back! We arrived too late to do a tour, but we were able to do a tasting. The pricing was fair, $20 per person and a take away glass that was etched with the distillery's name. If you're a fan of whiskey, it's not a complete trip upstate until you make a stop at Tuthilltown Distillery. I've been here a few times now and love the vibe; it's so tranquil and unfussy. Lots of outdoor seating out front (where the distillery cats, Bourbon & Rye, usually hang) as well as out back at picnic tables surrounded by all the trees and greenery. My favorite whiskey is the "It's Your Favorite Whiskey" -- and, if you decide you really like it as well, grab a bottle because they don't sell or distribute this one back in the city. You can do a tasting by getting a tasting kit that comes with 5 vials of whiskey/gin/whatever you choose to taste (and it comes with a cute little branded whiskey glass). This is a great option if it's your first time here and you're not sure what to get. They also have cocktails if that's more your scene. Currently, you can grab bottles of whiskey or bitters or merch inside, and when you sit outside to order drinks or tastings you enter it all via QR code/online ordering and they simply bring everything out to you. Had such a great time at this distillery when upstate for the weekend. Found it via Yelp (woohoo!) and the reviews did not steer me wrong. We did a tasting flight each - the bf did all the whiskies while I did whiskies, gin + the coffee liqueur. The require food at the moment due to NYS laws - but they had bags of chips which went along nicely and didn't require ordering a full meal. The whiskey is fine, good even. But the service? At least if you're over 50 years old, as are my wife and I, be prepared to be ignored by the staff behind the bar. I mean completely ignored. One of the people who was with me during our visit to Tuthilltown Distillery was heard to say: "Sign me up for your Booze of the Month Club... NOW!!!" (Sadly, I don't believe there is such a thing, but if there were, it would be about 3 notches beyond awesome). Our visit here today was somewhere between fantastic and epic. That includes the staff (friendly, attentive, humorous, knowledgeable) and the spirits. I am also 66% happier with the tastings, because - and this is a fairly new update - New York State now allows you to sample 5 liquors instead of 3. You can also get unlimited samples of their non- or less-alcoholic products (the ones which are classified as "food") such as tonics, bitters, and syrups. It was still a tough decision to whittle my choices down to 5, but the woman who guided us through our tastings provided enough information on the backgrounds of the other liquors to help us make informed decisions. The liquors are memorable. Yes, they do cost more, but you are definitely getting your money's worth. If you don't want to pay full price, do a Yelp check-in the first time for a 10% discount, and on future visits, bring your empty bottles for 10% discounts. I thought I was done after sampling the ryes and bourbons and their own bitters, but then - evil people that they are - they let me sample their bourbon infused maple syrup. PANCAKES TOMORROW!!! Be sure to also say hi to Bourbon and Rye, the two Kliban-esque cats who actually run the place. Bourbon is the more social of the two. Bourbon's primary purpose in life appears to be to guard the spot on the table where the sun shines... until you open a package of oyster crackers as a palate cleanser. Then Bourbon is your best friend. So actually, after visiting here, I have not one but two Bourbons as my best friends. The other is their four grain bourbon. By far, my number one favorite place to visit whenever I'm upstate and here's why: 1. It's absolutely beautiful, you can sit by the creek if you want or stay close to their quarters but the greenery is stunning. 2. Their booze is delicious! 3. The staff is SO friendly. I actually decided to make this place my destination for my proposal and their staff member, Fabian, was a dream to work with.
