I have been a fan of The Spread, both at their old location, as well as the new one. The new location is much larger and I would say more trendy and family friendly, as it has both indoor and outdoor seating's. The place shares a common areas with a few other restaurants with a nice little fountain in the center. I have much preferred the outdoor seating as it has a nice view. On my last visit I ordered the "Small Plates Brussels Sprouts "Grilled Corn Off the Cob" as an appetizer, which was very fresh! For the main dish I tried the "Veal Ricotta Gnocchi " which was very filling and extremely well done. You may want to come in a larger group to really enjoy the vibe. I just wish the brought back the Dancing they used to have at the older location. read more

We made a reservation for 11 people at 1:00 PM on a Sunday. They called us that morning to confirm it. When we arrived, the table wasn't ready. They spent the first few minutes pushing tables together while our group stood there waiting, including kids who were already hungry. We placed drink orders and food orders for the kids at around 1:15. Drinks came out. We asked for straws. Never got them. The room was freezing. The doors to the outside had been open right before we were seated and it never warmed up. We asked the manager to turn up the heat. He said he would. He didn't. There were two large air vents directly above our table and nothing warm was coming out of them. By 2:00 the kids were melting down. I asked the waiter multiple times to check on the food and kept getting told it would be just a few more minutes. I finally went to the manager. No apology. No I'm sorry, no I apologize, nothing. Just that the kitchen was backed up. I pointed out that the table next to us came in after us and was almost done with their meal. He had nothing to say. The food eventually came out in dribs and drabs. The last dish hit the table at close to 2:30. Still no apology. When I brought the bill over and asked if it was correct, he said yes. I told him we had waited nearly 90 minutes for our food. His response was "did you get all your food?" I pushed a little more and he offered to take something off the bill. I said only if you want to. He then blamed the kitchen and said it wasn't his fault. I asked him, are you the manager? This is your restaurant, isn't it? He said ok, I can take something off. I told him forget it, we'd pay the full amount. And we did. One of our servers was genuinely kind throughout and none of this was on her. We made sure she knew that. But the cold room, the 75 minute wait with young children, and a manager who couldn't once bring himself to say I'm sorry made this a really unpleasant afternoon. We won't be back. read more

Update to my first review. Came for dinner on a Tuesday in July for my daughter's 22nd birthday. She chose and I kept my mouth shut cause the last time was not a good experience. Oh boy do I regret it. Ambiance is lovely. Today the service was good, mind you at 6pm on a Tuesday the place was only partially filled. The scallops were well made and tasty but the string beans served with it were atrocious. They were definitely old. Yellowed and very woodsy. Had to spit them out and fish out of my meal. The fillet minion which we asked to be cooked medium rare was cooked well. The pork belly was a disaster. Atrociously cooked. Disgusting. Dry. Horrible. The cod special I was told was very good. I would have complained to management and sent back three of our dishes but being that it was a special occasion I didn't want to embarrass my daughter. Go somewhere else is my advice. read more

We ventured out to The Spread after hearing great things from friends and were very happy with it! To start, we each got a cocktail. I loved the forbidden fruit (purple cocktail). It was tasty and pretty! The waiter then brought over some cornbread which was different but yummy. We started with the elephant butter grilled oysters. I'd give those a 2.5/5. We both didn't enjoy them and compared to other grilled oysters we've had, these weren't great. We really enjoyed the mushroom spread bread. It's a perfect app to get for the table while waiting for dinner. My entree was the brick chicken and I can't say enough about it. It was amazing! Crispy skin and juicy chicken. The waiter told us it takes about 30 mins to prepare the brick chicken as an FYI because they're made to order but it didn't take that long and even if it did, it would be worth the wait! I loved the greens on the side and the sauce the chicken was accompanied by was incredible. I don't care for polenta, but my mom who does like it said it was amazing! She enjoyed the halibut. Again, the fish was perfectly crispy melt in your mouth paired with an amazing refreshing veggie medly. Finally, the vibe of The Spread is killer! Their decor is beautiful and it was lively and fun in there. We did have a difficult time speaking with a lot of the staff there, there may have been a little bit of a language barrier, but that didn't hinder our experience at all. We were looking to try a new spot and visit the new mall in Norwalk. Found this on Yelp. It was ok. I tried the eggs and grits. My mom got the fried chicken sandwich which - although very nicely seasoned - was not fried at all. I ordered the French toast which was the best part of the meal. Really yummy!! We ordered bottomless mimosas for $20 each and they kept the glasses full. Service was decent - even though we were looking for our server at times, there were other staff that we asked for what we needed. It's a very cute place. The outdoor set up is nice as well. Ambiance: pretty cool place with a nice setup. The outdoor-ish area allowed me to bring my dog which was nice for a rainy April day! This area has a fireplace and a small tv which was great to catch the nba playoffs. Service was overall good as there were a lot of people floating around helping out. My fiancé and I were headed to the Norwalk Aquarium, so we wanted to check out a restaurant nearby for Saturday brunch yesterday. We liked the menu, so I made reservations for standard seating (specifically NOT selecting high tops or outdoor). We excitedly entered but did not feel very welcomed. If the standard dining room table was not an option, it should not be available on open table. We ordered two iced coffees. The staff brought us iced teas instead. When they brought the coffees it did not have the right milk. It took a few tries, but once we got the correct order it was delicious. I ordered the Shakshuka which was delicious and came with a ton of pita. My partner got the BLT, which he enjoyed as well. All in all, the food is fantastic and ambiance was great. We were in Norwalk to visit the Maritime Center, and made brunch reservations to sit outside at The Spread. They seemed to have as much table space outside as they had inside. The setting was gorgeous, inside a big courtyard next to a big splash fountain for the kiddies to play in. Oh, and they have a big outdoor bar too for the adults to play in. Our table ordered from their brunch menu - a $12 Smoked Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese Sandwich plate, and a #12 Veggie Omelet Plate with squash, zucchini, feta, jalapeno hollandaise, and dressed baby greens. My omelet was great -a big portion chock full of veggies and that nice jalapeno hollandaise as an exclamation point. In contrast, the soup and sandwich plate looked rather skimpy for the same price. I've had a lot from the menu and it's been really tasty. Mussels in curry broth, fresh and baked oysters, charcuterie, pasta, Parmesan truffle fries. Not too heavy on seasoning but there's still developed flavors. Cocktails are delicious as well. The tea bag is my favorite. Fast service and there are usually open tables, even on busy nights. Servers are nice. Let them know ahead of time you're splitting the bill, and they can only split 3 ways. The Spread is an American restaurant and cocktail bar that opened in Norwalk, Connecticut in October 2012. It was founded by business partners Andrey Cortes, Chris Hickey, Chris Rasile and Shawn Longyear. The four partners all had bartending experience and together they worked at a variety of restaurants in Fairfield County. Eventually they decided to go into business together and open their own restaurant using the combined knowledge they had gained over the years. After securing a location in South Norwalk, they enlisted the help of General Manager Juan Meyer and Executive Chef Carlos Baez. I recently visited the Spread with my wife and son. We were meeting up with my in-laws for brunch. There was great weather on the day we visited so we asked to be seated outside. To drink, I ordered a "Bottomless Bellini" which came in an orange color instead of the usual pink. This was because they make theirs with Prosecco and Passionfruit (not Peach). It was an interesting new take on a classic cocktail and very tasty. To eat, my wife and I both ordered the "Ricotta Gnocchi" (sage velouté sauce). The only difference is that I ordered it topped with Braised Veal and my wife ordered it topped with Wild Mushrooms and Gruyere. Both dishes were absolutely fantastic! For our son, we ordered a "Fresh Mozzarella Flat Bread" off of the Kid's Menu and he happily gobbled it down. My father-in-law ordered the "Shakshuka" (pepper & onion tomato sauce, baked eggs, feta, toasted pita) and my mother-in-law ordered the "Veggie Omelet" (squash, zucchini, feta, jalapeño hollandaise, baby greens). The food, drinks and atmosphere were solid - let's start there. Went as a large group (20 people, mostly couples, mid 30's) to celebrate the new year on December 30th, 2023. We did a prix fixe menu @ $65/person (not including alcohol). The entire bill including tax and tip was $4,300 or $215 per person. We were drinking - you're going to wet the whistle with friends for New Years... but we got exploited. We contacted the restaurant, and they were willing to talk. Here is what they said: "7.8 per person or just over 1.5 drinks per hour, which is not a stretch (even with some females and drivers included)" Mind you - we had 10 women there (one of them pregnant). This place was phenomenal! Came here on a date and stayed until closing time :) Super cute. Slightly older clientele, felt very elegant, not too loud - so some music but a bit quieter than the surrounding bars that were blasting music, which was ideal for enjoying the vibe and talking. We sat right by the bar actually (and enjoyed it there, and stayed until closing time!) but the indoor nearby place looked super cute as well. For drinks I go the Forbidden Fruit drink (vodka, butterfly pea tea(?), peach, lemon, grapefruit :)) and to be completely honest I can't say the drink tasted great but it looked pretty and the bar ambiance more than made up for it. read more

My partner and I were in Norwalk to check out the aquarium but were on the hunt for the best brunch in Connecticut. Not to be dramatic, but I think The Spread is a hard to beat contender! This place is stunning. There is a charming foundation in the front of the restaurant with a gorgeous outside sitting area. We were sat inside and the natural lighting was perfection and every food bloggers dream! My partner and I started off with their bottomless bellinis - because why not?! They were so delicious and never ending passion fruit fun! We ordered the eggs and grits which were a creamy dream. The mushrooms were a great addition and tied the dish together well. The shashuka was stunning! The eggs weren't over cook and it was served with a generous side of pita bread. This was my partner's favorite! I ADORED the French toast. My husband and I went to dinner at the Spread for our anniversary. It was a rainy evening so we sat inside the restaurant instead of the outside bar. We were seated right away at a small table at the window. The view was lovely. We watched The fountain. The staff was very attentive. As soon as you're done with something the plate is removed. The service was very good. They give a corn bread square per person with this creamy butter. It was very good. We were encouraged to pick an appetizer. We picked the corn off the cob. I forgot to take a picture. It was very delicious. It tasted like a Mexican corn on the cob but just The grilled kernels instead. I wouldn't get it again as an appetizer how ever it would be a delicious side dish. My husband got the halibut and I got the gnocchi with mushrooms. Both were delicious. Finally got a chance to eat at this restaurant and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor heated dining options. We chose to eat indoor because it was a bit cold. For starters we had the raw oysters which were delicious and a great way to start. They also served us some cornbread which was good as well. Four our entrees I had the scallops served over cauliflower rice, never had cauliflower rice but it was good. The scallops were cooked perfectly and they tasted great. My only complaint was not having a bigger serving. My girlfriend had the halibut served with potatoes and veggies. Her plate was amazing. The piece of halibut was huge and tasted even better. We also got an order of their brussel sprouts and they were so tasty. For dessert I had the affogato and my girlfriend had the apple fritters. Both desserts were a perfect way to end the evening. Had a very enjoyable meal with friends here last Sunday. There was someone playing guitar and singing so it was very nice. Started with cod fitters, taco and a Flatbread. All good, but the fritters were a bit greasy. The taco was loaded. The mix of.flavor with the goat cheese and ho ey was very nice. All very good. 2 people had the gnocchi each way which was outstanding. Hubby wanted to lick his bowl the sauce was so good. He's not a cornbread fan, which was provided and good with amazing butter. So weird to notice the butter provided, but it was truly very good. The tuna dish was also very good. I had the pastor sliders which were good but just a bit too spicy with everything else going on. After attending a charity event in South Norwalk my wife and I stopped at The Spread. We were hungry but not starving. We were lucky because on tuesdays The Spread does $1 oysters. So we started with a dozen. They were fresh, cold and had a delicious brine. We then had the cod fritters which had great flavor and texture. But the best dish was the ricotta gnocchi with braised veal. I would kill to be able to make the brown sauce in this dish. I wanted more, not because I was still hungry but because it was that good. We really wanted to love this place - the location was wonderful, filled with light, high ceilings. Tables weren't too close together, so the place felt happening without having to rub elbows with the next table. Service was attentive and presentation was nice, too. Unfortunately, the food was not great - it was OK. A quick improvement would be to change the oil used to fry the French fries and home fries more frequently. I would also recommend soaking the chicken in buttermilk so that it would be more juicy. The burger would have benefited from a slice of pickle to give the meaty flavors of beef, egg, bacon and cheese a bit of tartness. We had high hopes, but as all three of our orders were accompanied either by French fries or home fries and we even ordered an additional order of home fries to share, the strong taste from the frying oil was hard to overlook. read more

I've been to the spread three times now and it's one of my favorite brunch spots (and all of the friends I've brought here agree)! The Spread has very friendly servers, fast service, and delicious food! My favorite by far is the breakfast burrito, which is a perfect combination of everyone's breakfast food! It comes wrapped very securely so you can eat it without worrying about everything falling out. I was also able to upgrade my fries for truffle fries (for a small up charge) last time I went. Unfortunately, the truffle was not very present, but the fries at the Spread are always fried to perfection and perfectly salted!
