I've been a Trouper for the past four years, ever since moving to Connecticut, and it's truly a special place. With gay bars rapidly disappearing across America, Troupe stands out as a vibrant hub in the Fairfield County LGBTQ+ scene. The owners pour their heart and soul into every aspect of the bar including the programming, music, and atmosphere, and it really shows. The bartenders are warm, welcoming, and genuinely seem to love what they do. From drag shows and burlesque performances to seasonal drink specials, themed parties, and go-go shows, there's always something happening. Troupe quickly became my go-to spot after discovering it one week into living in CT and I'm so grateful for its existence. My fiancée (soon to be wife) and I absolutely love this bar. We feel not only safe but loved there as a lesbian couple! We make a point to go to Troupe every time we are in town. We are from Boston. It is basically the LGBTQ+ Cheers! It feels like home but the Queer flair we love. Don't get me started on how amazing every night is whether it is a Drag Show, Lesbian Night or Karaoke! Came for a karaoke night and it was great. Singers of all types and nobody feels like they shouldn't sing. Towards the end of the night it got invaded by a rather large straight crowd and it got a little less comfortable there. Not the fault of the bar, but I wish they would give us our spaces sometimes. Bartender was great and attentive. Karaoke DJ was decent. Overall I wish I lived in the area so I could visit more often. read more

I've loved Troupe429 since I first started coming here a year ago. I grew up in this area, and always hoped for a positive space to enjoy on a night out. After living in Seattle for two years, I was thrilled to hear upon returning home that a bar like this had sprung up. Since returning to the neighborhood, my husband and I have built a family of 15 people, most of whom we met at Troupe429. They have become our chosen family, and we owe it to the unbeatable cast that makes Troupe run so well. Casey and Nicholas are incredible owners, and love their patrons as family and community members. Hazel Berry and Robin Fierce are phenomenal local queens that turn most nights into a party, and the rotating queens on other nights like Sienna Rose bring even more life with them. Johnny, Dante, and all of the other bartenders are great bartenders and better friends. Ivy is a wonderful musician, and the events at Troupe that she is a part of (as well as the ones that she isn't) are always fun. I love this place. When I first moved from New York City to Connecticut, one of my biggest concerns was that I wouldn't be able to identify with anyone in the area. When I discovered Troupe429, I finally felt like I had a place I could go to where I could be myself. As soon as I walked in the owners, the bartenders, and the drag queens were extremely welcoming, which is something I could never say about any bar I've been to in the city. It feels really inclusive (note that it's an LGBTQ bar, not a gay bar) and everyone always seems to be having a good time. Bartenders are attentive, there's ample seating, it's actually very clean (I hate that smell of lingering alcohol that most bars have) and there's an ample number of gender neutral restrooms. I've actually never had an issue finding parking around the area, which I know a few places mentioned, but I haven't been on a really busy night, either. read more

Sanctuary. The only word or emotion I can come up with. Troupe gives a home to hundreds of people, whether it be a night or regularly. Aside from the staff being attentive, caring and thoughtful the owner go above and beyond any expectation. This place gives you a home. It's like cheers but gayer, more welcoming to outsiders and tons of events. I couldn't come up with a negative thing to say about the bar, I do however have an issue with people attacking people and small businesses. I have never seen or heard of anything negative about this place and anything said otherwise is more than likely not true. This is by far one of the most Unique LGBTQ bars I have Visited. Located in Center Norwalk CT. This has become and will become the home for the LGBTQ community in the southern coastal region of Connecticut. Creative Decor, cleanliness and the incredibly friendly staff, sets this place apart from so many other LGBTQ bars. My two friends and I went last Sunday night. I was able to get a blue moon on tap and we played a game of bingo! It was low-key (maybe because it was a Sunday night during a pandemic) and we sat at a table by the bar and talked without having to shout to hear each other. I went to Troupe 429 last Saturday night (June 11, 2022) at about 10 PM with four guests. There was a drag show in progress, which I believe was a Pride benefit. We were stopped at the door and told there was 40.00 admission charge. The part of the drag show we was less than impressive, but wasn't expecting much. High prices for drinks on top of the cover is not that unusual in gay bars, at least in my experience. But the really annoying thing was that a very young, cute friend of mine followed me by about a half an hour later and was charged 20.00 admission. Discrimination against "old" people at a venue that is supposedly supporting "PRIDE" is disgusting. read more
