Before I begin, I just want to clarify that I am not writing this negative review to be vindictive, but rather in hopes that Vandome will improve its policies and practices so that people of all abilities, backgrounds, and health statuses can enjoy this establishment. Also, so that those with current disabilities can prepare themselves when going to Vandome. My family and I went to Vandome on Saturday, August 20th looking to have a great time. We were a group of 10. While going through security, a member of our party was stopped during bag check because of her Type 1 Diabetes supplies. Inside of her fanny pack was a glucometer, glucose test strips, insulin syringes, glucose tablets, and a few other essential diabetes items. At first sight, the lady looking through her bag looked at her curiously as our friend began to explain that these items were for her diabetes. Before she could get very far, the security man checking the men's line came right over with a nasty attitude and exclaimed "you have to get rid of all that." She tried to explain that these were for her diabetes and that she could throw out the syringes if those were the problem, but that she needed the other supplies. He didn't care to listen. He just kept dismissing her and telling her she was holding up the line. At one point, he even remarked "I have diabetes too, don't play that shit with me." I can't assume what kind of diabetes this man may have, but judging from his naïveté, it's likely he was referencing Type II diabetes which is COMPLETELY different from Type I and therefore treated differently. People with Type I diabetes need to regularly take insulin to survive and and control their blood sugar because their pancreas can't produce it at all. It is incurable and requires constant checking of blood sugar levels. People with Type II diabetes have more treatment options and may not need as much maintenance because their body already produces some insulin, just not enough. For some people with Type II diabetes, it can even go away with lifestyle changes. I share this because it's clear that if this man truly had/understood diabetes, he would know that our friend needed those supplies to enjoy her night. Instead, he was nasty, didn't let her finish a sentence, and wouldn't even offer alternate accommodations. Ironically, our friend had been to Vandome the week before and the security that night let her keep her bag at the front, which she thought was a totally reasonable accommodation. However, this man wouldn't offer any alternate solution other than saying, "you bring that to that car or you're not coming in." This encounter left my non-confrontational friend near tears and uneasy the rest of the night. What if we didn't have a car? Would we not have been able to enter because of her diabetes? Thankfully, she brought her glucose tablets in, but she was not able to check her blood-sugar throughout the night which made her anxious and resulted in us leaving prematurely. Federal laws prohibit most public places and programs from discriminating against people with diabetes. One should not be excluded because of diabetes or be denied access to their diabetes supplies, and should be provided with reasonable accommodations if necessary. Vandome followed none of these laws that night. If they had let her put her bag at the front like they had the week prior, there would be no problem, but it is clear that Vandome doesn't have consistent procedures for these situations, resulting in a truly unfortunate event where my friend left feeling berated, embarrassed, and discriminated against. Once again, I leave this review so that Vandome's management can reassess their procedures and train ALL their staff on the proper ways to handle these situations. Until then, I encourage all people with diabetes or other disabilities to beware. read more

My friend had a birthday party here on Saturday night, and we LOVED IT! We was looking for a club that played latin music, and sure enough on that night there was a latin DJ that was playing on the main floor and he was on FIRE! It was our first time coming here and we were very impressed with the amount of bars available to grab a drink, and the pricing for the drinks were great! There was plenty of room on the dance floors and for seating. They had a pool table on the main floor. The process to set a reservation for a bday party was easy. It didn't cost anything to reserve, and it included a private table, free admission for the guests, champagne, and to our surprise some snacks. The place didn't open until 10pm, and we all got there around 11pm. We noticed that the place starts to pop around 12. They had another dance room that played hip hop/rap/reggae and that gave us another place to enjoy some other music that we loved to dance to. They also had an outdoor hookah bar but it was still warm and covered because of the cold. This place had the music bumpin, the drinks were made perfectly and the prices were reasonable, the staff was friendly, this place is most definitely the spot to hit for any occasion. read more

I will forever have a soft place in my heart for Vandome! Came here on a date which i thought was weird but it turned out great! The cover charge is like $5 which makes me laugh! And the security at the front is a little intense with all the digging through your purse but whatevs u gotta do to keep the place safe. The 2 different rooms for music was perfect for those who done t want to just dance salsa and bachata. The hip hop reggae room was litty and the dj was amazing! There is also a back smoking room which was cool for those people to smoke and not have to go outside. The drinks are not very strong but depending on how u tip the girls they will show love. Drinks are fairly cheap and you may get different prices at the different bars lol...came back another Saturday bc it was that good ! read more

First time at a club in CT on a Saturday night, and I am pleased! I will always support hip hop/r&b music; Van Dome had exactly what I wanted. In fact the first question I asked when I arrived was "Hi do you have hip hop?" to which they answered "Yes in the warehouse". Van Dome has a very large open room in the front and a medium-sized room in the back which they refer to as "the warehouse". And also what I like is that they have a fantastic selection of Spanish music. Overall Van Dome is a great choice if you're looking for a dance club with hip hop or Spanish music. read more

I used to say this was a great club because it has the best music and one of the only places that plays hip hop, rap, reggae, and Latin in new haven. But lately they will literally let anyone in. There is no dress code it has become a classy club to a trashy one. You can literally wear anything from flip flops to gym sneakers and they let you in. read more

Love this place. Have been visiting this club for many years and I can clearly say it's one of the best in CT. Many clubs comes and goes but this one has been in business for over 20 years that I can recall. Drinks are affordable and they always have multiple deejays and dance area. Also multiple bars within the club so you can always move around and enjoy yourself. Plenty of security and local cops always makes the place feel more secure. read more

I was really tired of so-called "Salsa Nights" at New Haven restaurants where the crowd was mostly middle-aged white people who can't dance. A friend of mine suggested Vandome as a place that played latin music where actual latin people went who knew how to dance. I'm not a big clubbing person but I will say I was pleasantly surprised by this place. And it's a lot cheaper than anything in downtown New Haven. Yes, the decor is a little cheesy (one half of the club has cherub fountains and bartenders in corsets, the other half has more of a warehouse feel), but the place is really clean, the crowd is very non-threatening, and we enjoyed the music and danced all night. They mostly played bachata and reggaeton, but also salsa and merengue. We'll be going back. read more

So disappointed with this place. It was a decent place for couples to enjoy the night drinking and dancing. Now it's all hood. Patrons allowed in tee shirts and sneakers. Not a bad club but is mainly for Latin people and salsa, merengue , and bachata lovers , not that pricy

This is a very nice and welcoming club. My girlfriend enjoys Spanish music and dancing and this is one of the best nightclubs in Connecticut that we have found. The crowd is typically pleasant and fun with no drama. The cover is typically $5 for guys, women sometimes enter for free. The drinks are well made and extremely well-priced for a nightclub. Prepare for a gentle pat-down upon entry (one line for the ladies and another for the guys), but this is for everyone's benefit and handled professionally. I have always been treated respectfully by the staff at Van Dome and received excellent timely service. Free street parking is abundant and right nearby. The dance floor is relatively large with lots of room to move around, as well as standing tables available to take a break. The club has two sections, a main room that plays mostly salsa and bachata, and the warehouse that plays reggaeton and hip-hop. The crowd is mixed in age which is nice. Everyone feels welcome. All in all it is a great venue for an evening of Latin music and dance in an upscale environment. read more
