We really wanted to love this place - the location was wonderful, filled with light, high ceilings. Tables weren't too close together, so the place felt happening without having to rub elbows with the next table. Service was attentive and presentation was nice, too. Unfortunately, the food was not great - it was OK. A quick improvement would be to change the oil used to fry the French fries and home fries more frequently. I would also recommend soaking the chicken in buttermilk so that it would be more juicy. The burger would have benefited from a slice of pickle to give the meaty flavors of beef, egg, bacon and cheese a bit of tartness. We had high hopes, but as all three of our orders were accompanied either by French fries or home fries and we even ordered an additional order of home fries to share, the strong taste from the frying oil was hard to overlook. read more

I've been to the spread three times now and it's one of my favorite brunch spots (and all of the friends I've brought here agree)! The Spread has very friendly servers, fast service, and delicious food! My favorite by far is the breakfast burrito, which is a perfect combination of everyone's breakfast food! It comes wrapped very securely so you can eat it without worrying about everything falling out. I was also able to upgrade my fries for truffle fries (for a small up charge) last time I went. Unfortunately, the truffle was not very present, but the fries at the Spread are always fried to perfection and perfectly salted! I had wanted to try The Spread for brunch for some time. It was a beautiful Sunday, and I decided to swing by, but everyone in Norwalk had the same idea (not their fault). No tables were available outside, but there were a few left inside. It was busy, but service was very slow. I would have loved a second drink but gave up after what felt like 20 minutes. The eggs bene fell flat in flavor, and the wait staff never checked it. I finally was able to ask for some salt and pepper and extra hollandaise sauce to pump it up a bit. The best part of The Spread is the atmosphere. The courtyard is lovely, and you quickly forgot you are in downtown SoNo. The Spread isn't on the main road, so it can be very easily missed. Walked into a totally empty restaurant and the minute they saw we had my daughter the host rolled their eyes. When we asked for a table they said they would be unable to help us unless we had a reservation. To note, the restaurant was completely empty except for 4 other people at a table and when I pulled open open table I could easily get a reservation for that time, and other 15 minute intervals, they just didn't like that we had a child with us. Looked like my friends enjoyed their meal. I ordered shrimp and quinoa and its good and the perfect size. My hubby ordered medium plate, blackened crusted tuna. Which he liked. Dessert we had oreo tree which the pudding was good but the banana tasted like not yet ripe plantain- thst part not good. The homemade donuts are delicious!!! Made my reservations online and I got an email confirming it. My friends and I had dinner here on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy but not packed. Request a table away from the bar since people like to hangout and stand there and it just gets too jammed up. We love the cornbread and we kept requesting for more. I'd gladly pay for it if it was in the menu. It's just so delicious! We ordered a bunch of apps to share - brussels sprouts, fries, taco, fried cod fritters. Since we kept eating the corn bread, we didn't have room for the big plates. We ordered some medium plates for dinner - sliders, steak and pork belly. Everything was good. Wow. First of all, the Spread, at its new location on Washington, looks amazing. The guys did an amazing job inside and out. The courtyard patio is set up as part dining area/part longe, with tables as well as comfy couches. Beautifully built outdoor fireplace is an awesome touch, as is the wonderful fountain in the middle of the courtyard. Service was amazing, and thats saying a lot considering that everyone is still learning how to operate under the current conditions. Cocktail menu was very well done, both in creation and execution. Now onto the real star of the show. Chef Carlos Baez has quickly become one of the areas best chefs. If you don't know his cuisine then the time to make it's acquaintance. We started off with a perfectly cooked Tuna appetizer. Pepper crusted and served with a great Wasabi cream. We also shared the beef tongue crossing served with a healthy portion of arugula and garlic mayo. Delish. Our final appetizer was a delicious buttery Foie Gras With Fig Jam and toast. For dinner there was perfectly prepared sea scallops - tasted as fresh as can be - perfectly caramelized on the outside, sweet and tasty - served with cauliflower rice and shiitake mushrooms. We also had a portion of skin on mackerel - nice tender fish with a tasty, perfectly crispy skin. Served with fresh heirloom cherry tomatoes, green beans and a fennel and radish salad. The last entree was a perfectly crispy roasted chicken. The lemon demi glaze added an excellent compliment to an already tasty bird. And the artisan salad was perfect on the side. Instead of dessert we opted for another dish - the Brussels sprouts, cooked nice and crispy, drizzled with honey, topped with feta cheese and a dash of sea salt. This entire experience was amazing. Lovely space and the staff was friendly. That's where the compliments have to end sadly. We ordered drinks, our entrees, and a side order of biscuits to share. The biscuits came out immediately, then we received nothing for at least 20 minutes. Then our drinks were delivered to the wrong table. The table next to us were seated after we ordered our food and their food came out 10 minutes before we received ours. the biscuits and whipped honey butter were good. My husband had the waffles which he said were alright, but I had one of the worst veggie omelettes of my life. Overcooked to the point that was burnt on the outside and mush on the inside plus it was massive. It was slathered in a hollandaise sauce and the side salad was drenched in another creamy dressing. I was looking for something a little lighter and this meal was dense and did not tase good. To wrap it all up they brought us the wrong check at the end. OH MY GOSH. Can't say enough great things about this place. From the food, to the decor/ambiance, to the truly exceptional service, I had an absolutely wonderful experience at The Spread. Do yourself a favor and head here immediately! I will 100% be back any time I'm near SoNo. Let's start with the service: my server, Ezri, really put my experience over the top. He was so kind, attentive, and knowledgeable throughout my meal. He really went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with everything. I ordered almost entirely based on his recommendations of the menu, and he did not steer me wrong. Another server, Fernando, also came and checked in with me and made a point to chat with me about what brought me to the area and the restaurant. I felt so welcomed, and these two made my night. Food: -I tried the Beef Tongue Crostini as an appetizer, and it was great! The beef tongue was thinly sliced, and the truffle vinaigrette complimented the beef tongue and peppery arugula really well. The garlic spread on the crostini was also delicious. Good sharing size if you're with another person as well. -Based on Ezri's recommendation, I ordered the Octopus for my entree and it was HEAVENLY. It had great acid and depth of flavor from the chimichurri sauce, and the octopus was charred perfectly while staying super tender. The fingerling potato purée was so smooth and flavorful. It had the flavor of perfectly roasted potatoes while also having the texture of perfectly smooth mashed potatoes. The smooth potatoes complimented the charred octopus very well. This entree is the perfect size for one person without being too heavy. -For dessert I had the Hazelnut Creme Brûlée. It was a nutty, chocolatey creme brulee, which was unique and blissful. The ambience and decor are really nice. It's a great spot! However, the food needs improvement. Some of the dishes needed more seasoning and overall just a bit more refinement in the kitchen for that price. The cocktails are nice. Also, there were way too many waitstaff constantly at our table. Every other minute someone was topping off our water or clearing a random plate or glass from our table. We both found it very distracting to constantly have waiters doing that and just standing by the table hovering. I appreciate attentive service but this was overkill. I wish I could review the food but unfortunately I had a very bad experience with the waiter who happened to be the manager before we even got the menus. He made a very rude comment to us and proceeded to talk about my group in sight to one of the hostesses. When we told the lady who was giving us our menus she was not at all surprised and apologized and said he has had multiple complaints. I would love to give it a try if this issue got resolved. I really wanted to love the brunch at this place, but it was not great. This review is specifically aim to ask management to get it together. The staff is extremely disorganized, waiters are not assigned to specific tables, and there is no permanent hostess. I have never worked in a restaurant but I can tell this is the culprit of the terrible service. We had a runners come to our table with food that was not ours. They took forever to take our order. By the time the foods got to our table the frieds were cold. This is a big place and it was about 80% full. We paid for unlimited mimosas but had a hard time to find staff to refill our drinks. The ambiance is cool, and burger was good (nothing amazing). I beg whoever owns this place, find better management. All the staff (except the guy that seems to be a hostess) was extremely nice, and i felt bad for them because you can tell they were trying their best, but they just need an experience manager. read more

The Spread has been on my list for a while and I am so glad I went. They offer a ton of flavorful options in small, medium and large plates both vegetarian and meat based. We had a ton of great options with our favorites being the grilled corn off the cob which had a full flavor with a creamy and spicy balance, the spread bread. The bread was a cross between a cracker and a piece of bread which was the perfect texture to balance out the toppings. We finished off with the apple fritters were super light and filled with chunks of apple and the gelato was creamy and provided the right amount of salt to balance out the sweetness. All employees that we interacted with were super friendly and attentive when we needed something or had a question. We will definitely be back for brunch some time soon! read more

We came here for brunch a few months ago and I loved the vibe and the food so we decided to do our daughters bridal shower here. Chris was great. He walked us through the whole process and gave us until the week of for a final number as well as providing a couple of things we did not expect to get included ( cutting the cake which usually carries a charge!) The food was soo good that all our guests were suprised at how much food and how good the food. I was also. There was such a great variety- French toast ( superb with a nice kind of caramelized crust on it) The breakfast burrito ( my granddaughter couldn't stop eating this and same with the adults) the sliders ( those were my faves) with french fries, the bennies ( both smoked salmon and turkey eggs benedict which arrived nice and hot at the table) corn bread with honey butter ( superb) frittata (goat cheese and veggies- also good) and a nice salad. Ther was so much food but the girls came through eating quite a bit.. there were 40 of us and it was just great. We had the whole room outside with the couch and the vibe was lovely.. all my guests raved about the spot and I got some calls asking me about it because they want to go back. I can also say the breakfast drinks are really good. The rose sangria is so light and refreshing and I loved my mimosa and the bellinis were different- passion fruit instead of the usual peach . This setup was nice as we could pick a more traditional entree if we weren't in the mood for multiple small tapas plates. The gnocchi was flavorful and loaded with mushrooms and gruyere sauce. Our cocktails were some of the best parts of the dining experience with unique infusions including a cucumber vodka with elderflower. The spread appeared to have an outdoor dining tent with a fully functional fireplace and an interior adorned with festive lights in the windows, dimmed lighting and earthy hardwood everywhere. Only reason why I've eaten here twice is because I was with my colleague for dinner. I see why, it's a beautiful restaurant, draped in natural wood and fresh cut flowers at every table. Lights are dimmed to set the mood and punctual and attentive servers are right there for you when you need it. It's nice, and it's a great place to bring people, but they do have a limited menu. It's interesting how there are symbols at the bottom to denote whether a dish is vegetarian or not, but they included fish under 'Vegetarian/Pescetarian.' It's 2 completely different things, so it's odd that they would lump them together. Either way, I would say they have plenty of vegetarian options here, but not vegan. My server was kind enough to talk to the kitchen to see if they could do anything for me, but alas the pasta is made with eggs. Salad it is. (You see why I don't like salads?). Things I've had here: "Massaged" Kale salad. I'm picturing the chefs in the back massaging the kale by hand in with ambient music in the background. It tasted like regular kale and didn't seem to have a softer texture or anything like that. I felt like I was eating Kale straight from the supermarket bin with a couple pine nuts and cubed avocado that was still underripe. blech. Skip. Roasted Beet salad without cheese. Ok this was a good one. Smaller portion, but tons of beets. Mix with arugula and toasted walnuts and tossed in their pom vinaigrette, this is a winning combination. Roasted Brussel Sprouts, no cream. Crispy, crunchy, big portion. Don't forget to omit honey. In the end, I made it work, but for the area, I think I can do better. All in all, just A-OK. read more

Despite any food or drinks- I just have to comment on the treatment by the manager. If you go here semi often or are a Norwalk resident, you probably recognize him as he is often there. Time after time he is incredibly rude to myself and people I am with. Simple questions regarding reservations or placement of seating are handled incredibly condescending and disrespectfully. I like the food here, but I am honestly on edge every time I have to go thinking about if I am going to have to deal with him or not during my visit.
