We were looking for a good lunch spot when traveling in Norwalk. Pontos Taverna was rested highly, so we decided to give it a try. I'm glad we did. It was really good. When you enter, the menu stand is on the left. The restaurant is basically a big room with several tables spread through the room and the order counter on the back left. It's simple but nice. I ordered the chicken souvlaki platter. It was served with orzo, tzatziki, pita bread, and a tomato and red onion mix. The chicken was flavored very well, and it all fit well together. The restaurant was clean, cozy and slightly minimalistic. The waitress was extremely friendly and the service was pretty quick. Unfortunately, they happen to be out of everything beef that day. I was slightly disappointed, but ended up ordering the pork souvlaki. I have to say, the pork was so tender and delicious. The Tzaziki sauce was excellent as well. The fries were well-made, and I'm not a huge french fry fan. The sandwich was slightly small, but enough to fill you up. The gluttony in me wanted a bigger sandwich. Ordered here for the first time tonight and I was so impressed! Will be ordering again in the future! Teddy took my order and was so helpful and kind! Super amazing service! The spicy whipped feta was absolutely unbelievable! I wish I had a chance to take a photo but we ate it before I had the chance! The tzatziki was also very delicious. The chicken Souvlaki platter was very filling. Chicken was tender and perfectly seasoned. Pita was hot and fresh out of the oven! Interior is sparse, acoustics require attention. There wasn't any back round music for ambiance. Slightly awkward staff but it could have been an off day. Most weekends are booked solid so reservations are suggested or come earlier than the dinner crowd. Typical of most Greek Resturant's they highlight Greek wines. So that was disappointing as they aren't my go to favorites. However, the cuisine was delicious. Our warm feta appetizer with long hot peppers didn't disappoint. The chicken souvlaki was moist, flavorful and the orzo salad was a nice accompaniment. But the shing star was the exceptional sauté fish. Perfectly prepared, tender, lightly floured, pan sautéed, slightly lemony, was outstanding. The baklava wasn't the best we've had but the coffee was strong and smooth. read more

Yikes! What the heck happened here? Gyro meat literally inedible - old, burnt, dry. Thank god I also ordered a chopped romaine salad BUT OH NO that was catastrophic. It's like they took a bowl of salt and poured it over the salad. I love salt, but couldn't eat this disaster. And yet everyone's carrying on like they're serving you the best food outside of Greece. This restaurant was a super cute "hole in the wall" Greek place! Great service, good prices and yummy food! You can't go wrong! We arrived on a Tuesday night at 7pm. The restaurant was about half full with two waitresses running the place. They did a great job working together and we never felt neglected at our table. Our waitress gave us recommendations since we wanted to taste everything. We ordered the country Greek salad (small $8, large $14) as an appetizer. The large was plenty for 2 people. The salad was cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, olives and feta cheese (no lettuce)! The oil that is was in was amazing! For dinner we ordered the sampler plate for 1 (and shared) which was around $20; sampler plate for 2 was $38. The plate had a little bit of everything; gyro, souvlaki, beef, lamb, pita etc. Out of everything my favorite was the gyro! They served two Greek beers and had a wine list as well. Parking in their lot was limited but there was plenty of street parking to be found. The restaurant is tucked away behind a bunch of buildings; I was confused as to where we were driving but we found it! Bathrooms were single male/female rooms and super clean! I would highly recommend this place! It's a "mom and pop feel" Greek place with amazing food and good prices! You won't be disappointed! read more

Very, very, very disappointed! Second time back since the "new" COVID setup and really crushed at the food! What happened to the flavors?? First off the paper plates and paper bowls. An absolute disgrace for the greek salad! The paper bowl not only reduces the size of the salad for $17 but those bowls seem to absorb the liquid gold dressing to the salad and they so skimped on the olives! As for food...orzo is still very good. The beeftekia paddies were awful-no flavor, not moist...and it wasnt just one order, it was on 4 orders! The tzaziki was also flavorless-no garlic or lemon hint-boring and bland! The gyro was a little on the drier side. Thank goodness for the fries and desserts!!! Those were tasty. Prices naturally went up which I can completely respect and understand but the small amount of greek salad at $17 is tad much and the lack of flavor is not necessary! Sadly, I will not be returning for a while-maybe weekday cook is different than Friday/Saturday cook since they are now closed on Sundays but that's 2 in a row for us...Jordan...come back!! Had dinner here a while and I was a little disappointed. 3 people at our table had the gyro platters and the meat was not fresh. It looks like it was pre cut and reheated. So it was so dry. You need to cut that fresh when it is ordered. The orzo had a funny color and some of the orzo was burnt and it wasn't to fresh. The tzatziki had chunks of cucumber which I didn't enjoy. The chicken souvlaki was good but they should be giving 2 skewers since you get a ton of gyro meat. Haven't been able to find a good Greek place yet! read more

Wow, another restaurant that I have frequented more times than I can count and with more friends that I brought. Let's talk about the ambiance and service for a moment, though I put less weight in that unless it's awful. It's a big open restaurant, likely two storefronts combined. It's located in Wall Street area, across from a failed construction enterprise, where the parking lot used to be. Parking is now terrible. It's open, and could be loud, but that's okay, it feels like home for Greeks and Italians. The service is always great. But the food....THE FOOD. I have been getting the same dish since I started going here many years ago--Chicken Souvlaki Platter with an extra chicken skewer. This entire meal, under $15. There is not better value that I have found in this area. With this amazing platter, you get one skewer of well-marinated chicken breast, packed with flavor, smoky from the grill, and just amazing; you get onions and tomatoes, unseasoned; two pitas cut into quarters; this dill/lemon-flavored orzo that is to die for; and last but not least, the best Tzatziki sauce I have ever had in my life. Seriously, I cannot describe this creamy, flavorful concoction with enough praise without writing a book about it--Tzatziki so good it should have a book written about it (I like it). My biggest disappointment is that they have stopped serving free, dense, delicious bread to eat with their EVOO. But, I will continue visiting, and enjoying this value-packed, fresh dish that costs $14. Amazing. read more

I want to end my 2022 reviews on a high note. And will give it to Pontos. I frequented here often this past year. It was one of the only meals my dad would still enjoy while he was ill. And the workers here were always SO kind. That is hard to find around this fast paced area of Fairfield County. And so is food that is consistently good and fresh. After two takeouts, we have found the food to be mediocre, served in very small portions, and overpriced for what you get. The chicken souvlaki sandwich had a measly amount of chicken. The souvlaki platter had one single, skinny skewer of chicken - not enough for a child. And, $10 for a side of greens? Our family is Greek and we and eat at many Greek restaurants. Amazing food and customer service! Came on a rainy Friday afternoon with my husband and in laws. The host was friendly and helped us to order. Our food was brought out quickly and everything was so appetizing. We ordered a gyro platter, gyro sandwich, souvlaki sandwich, green salad and romaine salad. The orzo on the gyro platter was amazing and we loved the dressing on the salads. Everything was flavorful. We will definitely come again when we're in Norwalk. read more

My dinner here was excellent! The beeftaki was by far the best I have ever had: melt in your mouth. The food from app to dinner was supurb. Service: This is where the star falls off. I was not asked how I wanted my lamb cooked. On the receipt discovered it was entered as Med-Rare, which is what I would not have preferred, but explains how it was served. Two servers appear to be covering the entire restaurant: so no one checked on me after app and no one checked on me after dinner was served. Had to flag one of them down for my check. Overall: Great food, limited parking and service issues(?). Also on my night, they were out of Gyros. That said, I would come back again and see if they can earn the 5th star. read more

The food was unbelievably great and very decent portions. Everything we ordered was delicious. Service was wonderful and the waitress was very attentive.
