This is a high energy hipster chic spot in SoNo. The walls are covered in graffiti, (gives me NYC vibes) and there's usually a DJ spinning hip hop, so just a heads up...it gets loud and crowded, but in the best way possible for a fun night out with friends. Im a fan of outdoor courtyard they share with The Spread, fyi: it's dog-friendly. The menu is inspired by global street food, and everything is served in paper bowls with plastic utensils. We recently visited on Cinco de Mayo for their Taco Tuesday special, and honestly, all you can eat tacos for $22 is an absolute steal. They also run $5 Arepa Wednesdays, which is perfect if you're trying to keep things budget friendly. I tried a few tacos and appreciate the corn tortillas. The Al Pastor was easily my favorite, which surprised me because I don't usually go for pork. The meat was juicy, topped with real grilled pineapple, and paired perfectly with the spicy árbol sauce. We also tried the Birria, which had rich, tender slow-braised brisket, though I did wish it came with the traditional consommé for dipping. The Chicken Tinga was decent, but I'm just not a huge tinga person in general. The Veggie taco was a good vegan option, packed with sautéed potatoes and peppers that gave a nice break from all the meat-heavy choices. I'm already looking forward to coming back to try the churros with ice cream for dessert. Even on a busy holiday night, the staff really stepped up. Eric handled the pressure like a pro, and Chris kept everything spotless despite the constant crowd. Definitely one of my favorite places to take guests who come into town; the menu is varied and extensive based on global cuisine. I personally love the beef bulgogi and their pierogis. The drinks are tasty and service is always excellent, just know that it will be loud and usually crowded. During the summer the outdoor bar is a nice space to saddle up to. Came on taco Tuesday, $22 for all you can eat tacos. You can add a drink for extra, but I passed. You can choose from five different tacos: fried shrimp, El Pastore, chicken, El, Pastor, veggie. The chicken was pretty dry, veggie had mushrooms. I think the El pastor was the best with juicy pork and pineapple. The only downside is you order 4 tacos the first order and then you can only order 2 at a time after that. I was just trying to maximize my taco eating and with the Tuesday night crowd it did probably take 10 minutes between orders. I think taco tequila taqueria has a better taco Tuesday all you can eat just based on speed of service and a little less busy with greater variety of tacos and allowing you to order more at once. Lately I've been really enjoying the chicken souvlaki, but some of my other favorites include the burger, ponchos, jerk patty, empanadas, Cobb Salad, and Pero's Caliente. I arrived in El Segundo before my friends and asked for a bigger table, but I was seated near the bathroom. I requested a different seat, but the staff said it was for six people. My friends confirmed they'd arrive soon around seven peple, and the staff insisted those tables were for eight now, seeming unwilling to move us. After waiting 15 minutes for my friends, they finally gave her the table we requested, which felt like favoritism. I believe the place has potential, but the service seemed unmotivated; as someone from the service industry, I think guests should be prioritized, not given excuses. By the end, there were six of us. The bathrooms were terrible.. one had vomit, the other poop, and no toilet paper, more like a proto potty. Staff training and bathroom cleaning need improvement. I didn't even take a picture of my food because I was put off by the whole environment. Probably that's why they closed down the New Haven location.. read more

Havnt been here in a long time. Came back for a visit when I was in CT visiting family. Service wasn't so great. They had pens yet tried to give us a pencil to sign the receipt, which we felt was weird because who is to say someone isn't just going to erase it? The vibe was cool, good music. The outside is beautiful. Didn't have any food this time, but they still have a late night menu which was cool. El Segundo - South Norwalk, CT Overall this place was good and I would come back. Just an initial disclaimer...it's barely a Mexican restaurant. It's more of a mix of multiple Latin American countries plus a couple European ones. Very good though. The food was quite good. Noting overly special, but it had a nice taste. Everything is served in paper bowls with lining paper. Salsa and sauces are quite spicy, so if you like something hot, you will enjoy this. The drinks were average. Not bad at all and definitely packed a punch, but also not anything super special. The atmosphere is really cool, especially in the summer when you can sit and dance outside at the outdoor tiki bar. The inside reminds me a bit of a college bar, but the outside is awesome!! The prices were a bit high but not excessive. The only issue I really had was that they charged $7.50 per chips and salsa and did not tell us until after. That is a total ripoff considering everyone else gives them for free. The people were nice for the most part, but definitely stressed due to the high volume of people. The service was very slow, but I don't want to be too critical because the day I went was a holiday for them and it was packed. I'll update this part when I come back. I love love this place. Food drinks music ambiance always hit. Urban /Latino vibe. Definitely playing your favorite songs! Service is amazing! Shout out to our server Charlie who was incredibly attentive and this is not the first time he's served us when we've come here. A pretty chill place that's walkable from most places down town and in east rock. I'd say theres nothing particularly exceptional about El Segundo, but it does have a very relaxed outdoor area. It's a great place to meet up with friends or coworkers after work. Their beer selection is pretty large, so you should be a le to find something for everyone. If I could make one tip to the owners it would be to get rid of those bizzare cart love seats. They're uncomfortable, I feel like I'm boxed in, and they're just plain too rustic for your location. Overall I can't complain but it's just lacking a little umph to get up above other suburban/small city restaurants. Disclaimer I believe I came here close to when they opened and it is the year of Covid, so I'll definitely be going back to see developments. The poultine was alright! This was my first time at the El Segundo in South Norwalk and I don't foresee myself returning. We walked in on a Sunday evening (July 3rd) and no one greeted us so we grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender came over shortly after and provided us with some menus. I went with the fried shrimp taco and a bourbon sidecar. Now the sidecar is not on the menu so they had to look up the ingredients. While it the drink was decent, as were the tacos, the service was really bad. I had to ask for water and get my own utensils. Mind you, they weren't that busy but they did only have one person bussing tables and like 3 people behind an empty bar. read more

Yes I am a fan. This is a great find in Sono, in another Cul-de-sac, and shares a beautiful area with "The Spread" on one side and the riverfront on the other side. The atmosphere is pretty vibrant, like a sports bar with a Mexican touch. They have seating outside as well and there is nice view of the fountains if you want to enjoy the outside seating. There is a small tikki bar , enough to seat like 6 people. I happened to visit the place on a Tuesday and they had a special going called "All you can eat Taco's", where basically you order four tacos, and once you get done, you get two more at a time, till you can't have anymore. I decided to try that and order the Chicken, braised beef and shrimp tacos to start with. The tacos very actually very flavorful, specially the shrimp and the beef one, the beef was done really well. Once I consumed the three that they brought I went ahead with an order of the beef and Shrimp tacos, and that was enough to fill me up. The service was very good, nice attentive staff, and Martin who recently moved from Brooklyn, did a fine job fixing a nice virgin hibiscus drink for me. He recommended I try the Birria Tacos next time, and another guest at the Tikki bar endorsed it wholeheartedly, so will try that the next time around. read more

Amazing fried shrimp tacos and cod croquetas!! The place was decorated really nicely and had good music playing! The customer service is also great! My server did a really good job at making sure that we were happy with our food and the service there! The best part of this visit was the dessert! The atmosphere was very retro when we walked in. I loved the aesthetic with the lights everywhere. Unsure if this is all the time or just for the holidays but I loved it. The food came out quick and it was amazing. Not pictured is a birria arepa because my hunger got the best of me. But I would 10/10 recommend this arepa. Birra was cooked great and complimented well with the arepa, avacado and other toppings. The kids quesadilla was huge but it was perfect to take home left overs for your little one. All the tables are high tables but luckily their high chairs were high as well so my 2.5 year old was able to join us comfortably. Unable to try any alcoholic beverages this time but the french connection sounded amazing. Can't wait to come back to try other items. read more

I love the outside atmosphere of this place as the inside of the restaurant is tiny. While you could stay there for a long period of time without feeling rushed through your beverages or food, service was hard to access and often took a long time to get other things ordered. The small plates are great if you like to try a bunch of things. Some are a great value like the mofongo while others aren't. The best thing I had was the Amelia cocktail which was well balanced between tasting like a fruity cocktail and having you be able to taste the booze, which is how I like my cocktails. The cheesecake was pretty standard but not really anything special to write home about. read more

Oh, hey, I get to claim being their first customer on opening day (and I created them on Yelp!) This is one of my favorite places in CT. The bartenders are all cool as hell, the open kitchen, with their spit of (DELICIOUS) pork is awesome, and the overall layout and decor/vibe of the place is just sick. In the warmer months, they have an outdoor bar, with a few tables. The menu is diverse, with the aim being to include street food from around the world. I haven't had a bad thing on the menu-and I literally ate there from the day it opened. The drinks are delish, as well--seriously, I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order (although I always go with "that mezcal drink.") They get a lively scene at night and the location cannot be beat. Still the BEST tacos al pastor I've had, even with now living in LA. Oh,and I guess the guys that run it are okay, too. We swung by here after the aquarium the other day and while the ambience was pretty neat / retro, the service and food were extremely underwhelming. Credit goes to them for their awesome representation of food from around the world, but it just didn't deliver. Taco selection was super weak to say the least. I went to El Segundo for the first time and it is definitely an experience! When you walk to the restaurant you'll notice signage in different languages, lots of art on the walls, and currency from all over the world behind the bar, which I thought was really cool. The theme and vibe of the restaurant is "street food from all over the world". El Segundo's menu does a great job of including food from several countries, including Canada, USA, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Peru, Argentina, Jamaica, Italy, Spain, Antarctica, Israel, Vietnam, Korea, China, Japan, and several over countries! The menu isn't overly large, however, because they have only chosen the best street food from each region. I had the fried shrimp taco, elotes, perros calientes, and the summer roll! Came here to eat with a few friends last Friday and left unhappy with the experience. It was not that busy when we were there but our table was mostly ignored the entire time we were there. I had to ask for menus after waiting for 5-10 minutes because no one approached us after we were sat down. After, we were only approached 2 times. Once to get our order taken and the second to have the food delivered to our table. No one came up to us to check on how we were doing, to see if we wanted any drink refills. Literally no one. We were just laughing to ourselves that we were invisible to the waiters?? We were there for about 30 minutes after we finished our food sipping on the ice in our drinks and joked that we could just walk out and no one would notice. Multiple servers walked by our table and not a single one came to check on us. We had to flag down someone to get our check and finally be able to leave. I have no idea what happened this day since I have been there multiple times before and never had an experience like this. I was embarrassed that I took my friends here and they had such a bad time and were turned off from returning again. 7/16/2021: Thank you to Chris for replying to my comment about my most recent experience at El Segundo. Regarding your point about why I feel the need to leave a review after a negative experience after the other times I've had decent ones at this restaurant; because this particular experience should have never happened and it left a bigger impression on me. Personally, I think my continued visits and money spent at this establishment contributed more in my support of this restaurant than a review would have. However, this last visit did not leave me feeling happy with my time here. I acknowledge that I could have asked to talk to a manager at the time to get it sorted out but why should that have been up to me? My group should have never been ignored like that in the first place. And the person who I assume was the manager on duty walked by us numerous times and also did not feel the need to approach our table to see if we needed help. DO NOT EAT HERE!!! Horrible experience! Did a reservation for 8 people for my daughter's 13th birthday party . They first put us in a table that was way too small and it was surrounded by boxes. After telling the staff about the small table they put us outside where it was cold and the tables were still wet from the rain. Our food came back cold and in cardboard box containers. Our food was in sauces that was spilling out of the containers. When we asked for plates they ignored us. They did not accommodate to one of our guest who had a gluten free allergy . She ask them what are her gluten free choices and they didn't respond. Lastly I asked for my check for over 30 minutes. Frustrated we walked out of the restaurant. Our waiter came outside to the street and said you didn't pay. I then responded I have been trying to pay for over 30 minutes we have an event to go to. I paided and left no tip. Completely unacceptable and unprofessional dining experience. I would have a better experience eating at McDonald's read more
