I had been wanting to come here since I saw it opened on the Post Road and finally came in for lunch today. It was a perfect, warm and sunny day, so the covered outdoor seating was a nice experience. Unfortunately I was underwhelmed by the food. I tried three different tacos, the fried fish taco, the Al pastor and the sautéed fish taco. The first thing I'll note is that the fried fish taco came out before the other two. I finished it and then waited over 10 minutes for the other two tacos to come out. The fried fish taco was the best tasting of the three. All three tacos were skimpy on toppings. The pork on the Al pastor was dry and kind of chewy. The non-fried fish was overcooked and chewy as well. I was expecting much better, especially given the price of the tacos, which is higher than in other Mexican places around Fairfield county. read more

I ended up spending $41, which was much more than I expected for what I got. I ordered takeout but never received a text when my food was ready, so I had to guess when to go inside to pick it up. Just had lunch at Tacombi and it was excellent! The Westport location is like the ones in NY but with a lot more space. I can't wait until the weather is nice and they can open the dining room. That and a margarita will be perfect!! I started with the small guacamole with chips. Compared to lots of other places, I was pleasantly surprised how large it was and delicious!! I also got the vegetarian tacos, which comes with sweat potatoes and beans. Usually the veggie tacos aren't amazing, but these were outstanding with both cooked just right. I added a bit of hot sauce and some of the guac and I had a wonderful lunch!! Best of all was the service. Diana greeted me warmly and told me to sit wherever I liked. While serving my food, she told me how much she loves working at Tacombi. That was so nice to hear! I ate out four nights in a row for work and Diana was by far the best server we had. The Birria Taco movement is making its debut in the northeast. There are obviously different techniques such as the ones served at Tacombi. These are fried tortillas stuffed with a cheesy and saturated meaty center (Least favorite style). Very greasy and consommé was less than desirable. It lack depth from slow rendered fat or seasoning. This establishment has a model similar to American fast food chains. You order via QR , code or counter then wait for your name or phone number to be notified. This concept is fine but when your price point is Mexican fine dining and checkout has 25% tip (default and may be changed) there is a disconnect. Food is delivered via plastic trays and paper plates. Then you proceed to the parking lot to sit and eat. $90 for 7 bite sized tacos, 1 horchata, 1 hibiscus, 1 margarita, and Tip for self service ;). Mexico City is renown for its Al pastor. However, the meat served appears to be precut, sitting, and reheated. This cost cutting process makes it tough and dried out. Another disconnect from price to quality and service. Trompa should be displayed as the pride and joy (no such display). Factory tortillas and salsas. Marketing vs delivery of goods and services is definitely lacking. My group all were disappointed with quality of food and felt ripped off in the process. High end taqueria trying to be like los tacos no 1 but definitely no 2 (poop). The two stars are for the workers cause they were pleasant and assisted with any inquiries. Tacombi I want to share some honest feedback. While I understand you may have a partnership similar to Shake Shack, it's important to remember--you're not a burger joint. Simply put: your prices are too high. Please take a closer look at what the local market can reasonably bear. This could be a key reason why your locations, including the one in Westport, CT, often seem empty. My family and I really like Tacombi and have eaten there around 20 times in the last year. The food is consistently delicious - my family likes the aqua frescas (watermelon and pineapple are both favorites). The fried fish tacos, birria tacos, corn esquites, and tostadas never disappoint. The service is very friendly - I want to give a shout out to Peta who always makes us feel welcome! I've read some of the negative reviews and agree that they had some challenges with service early on (order with a QR code, then a bit understaffed as they transitioned to table service) but the management apparently listened to customer feedback and the service has improved significantly in the past year. Finally one in Connecticut, happy about this. I have been to several locations btwn nyc and dc. Upon arrival I was greeted at the window by Tasha who was very pleasant. I was pretty hungry so I ordered a few things. I had pollo,pescado, and birria tacos. Alongside of rice and beans and corn esquites. Everything was good and fresh as can be! My only request would be lighter batter on the baja fish taco. Agua de Jamaica was my choice for a drink. A bar and alcohol is available. This location is super cute . Cute for a family night out or afternoon lunch with the kids or your girls. I had a good time . Even throughout my experience Anthony who was great as well. I went to Tacombi with family last weekend. Atmosphere was really nice! I liked my beef birria tacos, my only complaint about them is that there wasn't any cilantro in them or the consome. I really liked the chips as well. The guacamole didn't really have much flavor, but it was fresh. My dad liked his quesadilla, but it was definitely pricy for the size of it.. it was very small and not much to it. I definitely enjoyed my food more than my family members did. Service was great, tacos were great too! The only highlight but they are so small and for $6 average it's only worth going on Tuesdays because in no world was it worth $6+ good. Burrito is sizable and the only worth it option and preffty flavorful. Burria was so bland, any at home attempt would be better. Tried their vial burria ramen, was so small and there was barely any meat. The salsas were mid and only use is the spice to distract from no other flavors. Ambience is pretty fun for a night date or out with friends with drinks, they must want you to stand because my brother and friend who are by no means supersized just taller couldn't fit in the small table. As the food came there was less and less space to even eat or share food. Decided to give this place a try and was left very disappointed. First off, the ordering system sucks. You have to either call ahead or wait by the window as there's only one person at a time taking upwards of 20 orders at a time. The line gets very long and tedious and I wish that this place was a take out only kind of place. While I appreciate the sit down atmosphere, it simply doesn't work when the portions are this small. The food should be more substantial than this if they are offering people to sit down like a traditional restaurant. On top of this, the portions are way too small and overpriced. The steak quesadilla that I ordered was surprisingly bland and dry, and the sauces spilled all over my shirt and shorts because of how poorly assembled it was. And the fact that I paid $10 for this tiny piece of crap is inexcusable. I finished it in 4 bites, and was still left hungry after. Just a shame overall. Avoid this place. read more

This place gets a solid 4 stars from me. The watermelon margarita was super fresh & presented beautifully. My brother & I got a bunch of different things to try. My favorite was the Baja fish taco & the Avocado tostada. I also tried a bite of his Birria & it was Amazing! The carne asada tacos were decent. As for the Al pastor taco, I wanted to love this. I thought it was a good portion size & was cooked well BUT I still felt it lacked in flavor. My brother agreed w/this. He enjoyed his quesadilla & tacos as well. They are pricey, but in this area, they have to be to survive. I hope they make it in this location. Excellent food, with a decent wait line. Parking is really easy and accessible. Service is just OK, nobody greets you or guides you to the order window where everything starts. They see that new clients are lost but don't seem to care. The person I identified as the manager did not seem to control the situation either. People in front of me wondered what to do, other new clients that came after us were lost as well, confirming my average IQ was not the issue. At this (Westport) price, I would expect something a little better organized and will blame it on the 'we just started' the business. Definitely worth giving it another chance and I will. read more

Grand Opening!! Just had an Al Pastor and Baja Crispy Fish tacos. Very generous portion - I only had 2 and I'm not hungry anymore but I'm sure I could eat more. These were quite good. There are stations to get different salsas and utensils. Located on Post Rd E in Westport, Tacombi brings its already nationally renowned Mexican cuisine to Connecticut. While the quesadillas are quite delicious the tacos are the real MVPs of this place. They offer Birria, Al Pastor, Carne Asada, Carnitas, Fish A La Plancha, Baja Fish, Pollo Yucateco and Black Bean Sweet Potato. No matter your food preferences or allergies there is something for everyone. My favorite is the Al Pastor and the chicken. The tiny slices of grilled pineapple add a lovely earthiness to the dish. Tacombi is conveniently open 7 days a week from 11-11. Be mindful though, as this hot spot gets very crowded during peak hours. For those times I recommend calling ahead. read more

Corn was delicious: sweet, tangy from the lime, creamy from the cheese and spicy. Favorite tacos were definitely the shrimp and al pastor. Pineapple aqua fresca was so refreshing. I tried the Baja crispy fish taco, the beef Birria taco, and the carne asada taco. Al Pastor quesadilla was very disappointing. A single open face falling apart tortilla on a paper plate with greasy dripping red pieces of pork and nothing else. After going to Tacombi I looked at their online menu and discovered the quesadilla was missing the melted cheese, onion, cilantro and salsa. Guacamole was only avocado in a paper cup. The guacamole was missing the cilantro, jalapeño, onions and lime. Margarita was a glass full of ice with only 3-4 sips of blah margarita. Even if the food and drink were prepared properly they were way way overpriced. Apparently this is how the quesadilla is supposed to be served . I only received the tortilla and greasy meat. The dishes the other members of my party received were also missing many of the ingredients from the online menu. read more

I'm honestly surprised to see any review over 1-2 stars. We were excited to try a new spot. We're not very picky people and we genuinely were extremely disappointed by many things here. We were hoping for some authentic Mexican food and honestly would have been happy with a basic meal. We both got burritos which were $15 each and were the size of a small wrap. Typically when I get a burrito I can only finish half of it and after eating the entire burrito from Tacombi, I was still hungry. It had meat and cabbage inside and that was basically it. Hmm I'm really surprised that this place isn't better. The design, decor, vibe and menu are excellent and clearly a lot of thoughtful consideration went into this but the execution mid-day today was pretty terrible. I have never had an inedible taco before today. Literally dripping in grease, couldn't swallow it bad. There was no flavor, no seasoning. Just pure grease and globs of fatty meat. We ordered chicken (which was dried out and burned, seemed like it had been cooked in the morning and sat all day), beef (inedible) and breakfast (zero seasoning which is weird for how much stuff was in it) tacos and all 3 were very bland. We doused them in hot sauce. We ordered our food to go: paid for corn, rice and beans and received no sides. The margarita was ok, but a bit ridiculous for $14 in a tiny glass overfilled with ice (estimated that we spent $14 on a 3 ounce drink). It might be 100% worth it, for a great margarita but this was more reminiscent of lemonade, too sweet. Overall, this place has the potential to be phenomenal and whoever is behind it has great vision but the team running it isn't executing.
