Not surprised at how empty it was a lunchtime. Based on the chicken quesadilla special I wouldn't expect it to survive much longer. Simply dreadful dish. Rubber chicken chunks in tasteless cheese with a tortilla that was thick and stodgy. The charming waitress earned this review its second star. Went there for a friends birthday, service was ok, not great... we ordered a pitcher of sangria, which was filled with mostly ICE, we got it because 3 people were drinking it, for 10$ a glass we figured 38$ for the pitcher would be better.. we got 3 glasses out of the pitcher, no more, so that was a rip off!! The food was okay, it came cold, things were not hot..we asked how big the churros were to see how many we needed and she told us there were 2 and they were small, so we ordered 2 orders, well they were bigger then she said so we really only needed 1 orders... will not be returning the bodega!!! read more

Cut hole in wall Mexican restaurant. The restaurant has an open kitchen and guests can walk in from either end as the restaurant is long but not wide. The service was prompt and the atmosphere was festive. We both tried the argentino meat which is hangar steak one of us had burrito bowl and the other had burrito. The burrito was huge and came in a mini cast iron rectangular skillet and the burrito bowl was filled with vegetables, steak and good sauce. The rice was a bit clumpy and the Poblano peppers were a bit over powering but all in all it was good. Moving out here from the West Coast was scary because I have a deep love for Mexican food and knew that I was moving to an area that features more Italian Peruvian,Ecuadorian, Colombian, etc., but not as much Mexican. Still, I tried many times to find a place I could call my own. Bodega taco bar in Darien is that place! The tacos are wonderful every single time and the ingredients are fresh and well seasoned. Went here for lunch with our family and it was disappointing. Second time that we've had this experience recently. Waitress was sweet but got our order wrong and misinformed us on a couple of things. The food was mediocre. My biggest issues with the food are 1) the meat (chicken tinga, carnitas) is big chunks of braised meat. No spice or Mexican flavor or anything, etc. Bland and the wrong texture for Mexican/Spanish food, and 2) their rice is just white rice. It needs spices, something to give it flavor. It's Taco Tuesday and we are here for $9 Margaritas and a discount on the tacos. This restaurant is in a nice area and has a nice relaxing vibe. The food and drinks are always on point. Awesome presentation for the tacos and they taste as good as they look. We ordered the shrimp, fish and brisket tacos and they all were well seasoned with just enough spice. Can't forget about how great the guacamole with the freshly made chips were. I wanted to order another serving but I decided to have extra Margaritas over the Guacamole. The margaritas were well prepared with a nice blend, I like mine with extra salt on the rim. My daughter had a bourbon drink and she loved it. So I can definitely say that the Bodega Taco Bar specialize in all types of drinks not just margaritas. Let's not forget about the wait staff. They definitely demonstrated team work. This rec is way overdue. I recently had yet another great experience and wanted to share. Of course eating at Bodega is always a great experience. The big comfortable bar makes it very inviting to meet friends for cocktails and some apps while the dining space is fu for a date or group of six. I just love the booths with a group. So fun and cozy. Even though I am very particular about my Guacamole (my family prefers mine most of the time), I have to admit Bodega's guacamole is worthy. And the homemade chips that are served with the Guac. Delicious. Even more impressive, over Thanksgiving we ordered takeout for 15 of us and I am thrilled to report...IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! We ordered almost ever taco you could imagine, as well as the guacamole, and Bodega did an amazing job with serving sizes and freshness. So enjoy whether at Bodega or at home! Came here on a taco Tuesday for $1 off tacos with a friend. I had the mango margarita and a regular one! Both tasted great on rocks. We loved the tacos (we got a mixture) and ended the meal with churrors and chocolate dessert. Staff was friendly, our server (pictured) was attentive and friendly as well. My family loved our meal here! I had the kale salad with grilled salmon, also adding avocado instead of cheese. It was the perfect choice - flavorful, healthier, a big portion, and a reasonable price. We also split 3 sides for $12, getting Brussels sprouts, plantains, and corn. They were all delicious as well. The corn was served on the cob in two pieces, so it might be easier to share it if you ask for it off the cob. I will definitely be back for good food and good times! read more

Bodega Taco Bar is a Mexican restaurant and tequila bar that opened in Fairfield, Connecticut in June 2011. It was founded by chef Michael Young, Luis Chavez and Mario Fontana. Young's father was a chef in a French restaurant. He studied his father very closely whenever he cooked a meal for the family. After coming of age, he worked at several Manhattan restaurants and even consulted at some. He also owns a popular Venezuelan restaurant in Norwalk called Valencia Luncheria. After opening Bodega, Young called his Mexican venture, "Tacos and tequila with a slice of Brooklyn." A second location opened in Darien in November 2012. The menu at both locations features tacos, burritos, various small plates, a weekend brunch menu, and a large selection of tequilas, mezcals, margaritas, and other Mexican craft cocktails. My wife, son and I visited the Darien location of Bodega this past weekend. We drove to Darien to attend a Pride Event, but upon arriving my wife realized that she misread the flyer and we had come on the wrong day. Not to worry... we decided to make the best of the situation and get lunch at one of Darien's many delicious restaurants. When we saw Bodega's exterior, we immediately decided that tacos sounded great! The interior of the place was really cozy and the staff were very friendly. First we had some Chips & Guacamole sent to the table and then my wife ordered a Passionrita and I ordered a Spicy Rita. Both the guac and our margaritas were really good! For the main dish, we decided to order multiple types of tacos to split up, including the Baja, Cochinita Pibil, Gambas, Argentino, Americano, Duck Mechado, and Brisket Street Style Tacos. We also ordered some Chicken Quesadillas for our son. These tacos were so good; very authentic tasting! I loved every taco I ate but my personal favorite was the Duck Mechado. Waiter offered up a starter and we split a Guacamole & Pico de Gallo half & half for our Antojito ( that's Spanish for "Antojito"). They don't mess around with guacamole portion size, it was a decent meal on its own with the delicious in-house made chips. Why aren't all taco places or Mexican restaurants like this? These were the best chips I've ever had, start to finish. The Tacos. Fantastic. Soft hot & fresh tortillas with our choices: a couple of Americanos, seasoned ground beef, manchego cheese, and salsa de rusa. Really delicious says my buddy. I went more exotic, especially since there is duck on the menu. I always go for duck whenever and whatever type restaurant has it. I love it. So the Duck carnitas exceeded my expectations. It came with crunchy cabbage slaw, creamy avocado-jalapeno dressing, and orange glaze. Really? Orange glaze? Well serve it to me again. I'm sure this is my favorite going forward. For my second, I had the Seared Tuna Taco. It comes with crushed avocado, ginger carrots, and sriracha aioli. Excellent as well, given how many places try to serve even a mediocre "fish" taco (usually dried out Mahi-Mahi). The margarita was good. I found the place to be expensive, especially for what you get. I found the description to not be accurate for the food you actually get. Bodega we've been huge fans for years and years -- but it might be time to break up. Terrible service, nonexistent bartender (had to ask for drinks multiple times with ludicrously long waits) and, sadly, mediocre food that takes forever to reach your table. Clearly restaurant guests go into the same queue as takeout and it shows. Seriously bodega: open a ghost kitchen or simply eradicate the dine in option. Bodega is a great spot for tacos and cocktails! I always order a few tacos (the americano and fish are my fave) and sides (plantains, brussels sprouts and Mexican style corn are my go-tos). The cocktails are made with fresh ingredients and you can't go wrong with the margaritas. A burrito could easily be split or taken home for leftovers, and their house made salsa is to die for (ask for extra if you order to go). Just know going in that this place isn't cheap. The food is high quality and the ambiance is great, and you do end up paying for it. If you come to terms with the fact it isn't a cheap date (especially if you order drinks) then you'll enjoy yourself. read more

Have been wanting to come here for a while and I am so glad I did! The guac and homemade chips were amazing! You could taste the freshness in the guac but the chips were pretty oily. Then my friend and I got margaritas which were great. We got 2 Americano tacos, the duck carnitas, and the mahi fish taco. The duck carnitas and mahi fish tacos were just alright, we didn't love the flavor of them and the piece of mahi was pretty small. But the Americano taco was amazing, it was a classic beef with a crunchy shell, and the manchego cheese in it really added a different flavor which was delicious. As a side we got plantains with crema which were definitely the star of the show! I am still dreaming of them and they are a must-have! As for service, it was just average. Overall, I will definitely be back because I love the atmosphere and can't wait to try more off of their menu! read more

Hello Darien, you got best Taco Bar in the Town . I am so shocked when my Taco came on table , I did not expect here that. We ordered assorted Tacos to try including vegetable Taco I ate probably 100s of Taco places in the past and this one is the best so far. Very tender steak soft fresh corn bread Nd well seasoned. Very simple layout and nice ambience, they have clean bathrooms and entrance from back door. I am happy to find this place and looking forward to go back soon for another shot. read more

Overall Bodega is Really Really Good The only the reason they are not 5 Stars for me is the price. They definitely are not the cheapest place. Other than that everything is fresh, great receipts that are creatively and well executed. This was my 1st time at this location and I found street parking a breeze (it was a Monday). Staff was attentive and friendly. We went just for a lil bite. We shared the chicken sandwich that came with goat cheese and plantains, we got on them on the side (Wifey doesn't like plantains= More for me ) We will be back. I've been hearing so much about this spot and finally got the chance to go on a taco Tuesday! I ordered a pitcher of the Bodegarita and guac as an app. Love places that offer big drinks for big parties and the guacamole was perfectly chunky and fresh. I ordered a handful of tacos and tried out some seasonal specials - an arepa and a torta (sandwich). They were both so good, I didn't even get a photo first. First time here on a Sunday night after my son's soccer game. The portions are on the smaller side. We started with a tray of nachos then chicken quesadillas, 2 chicken tinga tacos, steak fajitas. My younger son, 9, had the chicken quesadilla and they were fine - your basic, standard quesadilla. He asked for some salsa on the side and did not get any. Asked again and still didn't get any. My older son, 12, had the tinga tacos. They are really small and he ate the two in 3 bites and ordered 1 more. He said they were good. I had the steak fajitas and it was just ok. It tasted stewed and not freshly sautéed and had a lot of liquid at the bottom of the iron bowl. It came with 3 tortillas rolled up in the bowl so that they were a bit soggy. The side of rice and beans were bland and not seasoned well. I asked for some hot sauce or jalapeños and received two containers of some kind of mild sauce - server didn't tell me what was in the containers. Boys had churros for dessert which they did not like at all and did not eat. The cinnamon and sugar didn't stick to the churros so they just tasted like plain fried dough. There was a hint of Orange or something in the dough or dipping chocolate which made the unsweetened fried dough just taste off. Bottom line, there was nothing fresh or tasty, which is what I would expect from a taco bar. I don't think we'll ever come back here again. read more

Wow, I haven't been back here in a year or two and so much has changed for the worse unfortunately. The portion size in relation to the price of many dinner options was an upset. The fajitas especially were very disappointing as my girlfriend and I received a skillet with maybe 5-6 pieces of steak and a quarter of a pepper with sautéed onions. I was expecting a side of rice and beans along with some pico, guac, sorry cream etc as per usual with fajitas. However, Jairo is an excellent manager and was very accommodating.
