Easy to find. Needs better decor outside. Two entrances, 'Bar' and 'Restaurant'. We chose the restaurant. We went for a late lunch. No other patrons. Quite a selection of drinks. They quickly brought out tortilla chips with a homemade salsa and hot sauce. I chose the chimichangas in queso sauce. Hubby had the enchiladas in mole sauce. Mine was ok. I wasn't expecting the food to be drenched in sauce. If you like queso sauce, this is for you. The rice was ok, but felt like it was missing something. My husband's enchilada tasted good he said. Service was fine. They did check on us to ask if everything was good. Appreciated that. This was a lunch, and there were no lunch offerings. Found that surprising. Could offer that and plate smaller portions. I mention that because lunch was over $50. Overall, could use better decorations outside and inside. And perhaps offer more reasonable lunch options. Our opinion, but was worth visiting. You never know when you'll find a diamond in the rough. read more

I normally come on here to air bad experiences at restaurants but that's quite the opposite for this review. I will preface by saying I eat at many Taquiera's / Mexican food spots between dutchess Putnam and Westchester county. La Patrona has better food than Las Mananitas for sure. Whoa what a hole in a wall for sure!!! I had a shrimp taco , chorizo taco , res taco and birria taco with consome. Each were delicious and did not disappoint. The salsa , guacamole, and chips were delicious. The white sangria was tasty and more importantly they did not hold back in making it strong !!! That is rare to find a place that won't water down your alcohol beverages. I noticed they never gave salsa verde which I asked for but waiter said they don't make it there BUT they had a red sauce that was given and that sauce was just as delicious. I didn't even need the salsa verde. The waiters were attentive and made sure our table was satisfied. I also did get to go at night which I was worried it wouldn't have been quality food but nope totally impressed. Will be going back for sure!!!! read more

Stopped here for lunch on a road trip. Randomly found this place on Yelp and had good reviews and figured we would stop. Glad we did. It's a cute little place looks authentic. The service was great. Their was one guy working and he worked really hard and did a great job taking care of the whole restaurant. Onto the food. We had the table side guacamole. It was made perfect. The chips and salsa are homemade and really good as well. I got enchiladas for my meal and it had three different sauces on it. The verde was my favorite. Mole I didn't really like because it was too sweet for me. The rice and refried beans were both really good as well. The chicken in the enchiladas is diced not shredded and I prefer shredded so that would be my only complaint. read more

I've been driving past this modest-looking gem for months. NAH, said I. And that was my bad. Very bad. After all, my shelves are lined with Mexican cookbooks, Diana Kennedy is a household god, and my chili has won awards. I don't bother going to just any old roadside Mexican restaurant. Fortunately, I finally ordered from La Patrona last night and I'm blown away by the quality of the food. This is a seriously real restaurant serving surprisingly good food. And bite by bite, it gets even better than that. This first order was modest. a simple dinner for me and my bride. Carnitas Burritos for me, Carnitas Michoacanas for her. The overly generous servings of well-seasoned pork were slow-cooked, tender, and lightly charred on the edges. Sorta the way real food is supposed to be made, but rare from all but the very best restaurants. The taste was even better. There were three different and distinct salsas, from mild to bright. with a fresh pico de gallo, generous portions of well-flavored refried beans and uniquely prepare rice (made with corn and bits of unctuous veggies) and a seriously good serving of guacamole. There's obviously a real chef in the kitchen. I'm torn about posting this. I'm afraid there'll be long lines and a waiting list next time I go. This place deserves no less and I'll definitely be back, long lines or not, for the rest of the menu. Maybe I'll bump it up another star. This is, hands down, the very best Mexican restaurant I've found anywhere near here... ----- A brief update since my last visit. This is a total "hole in the wall" type place but definitely delicious! I had the Chile Relleno it was a huge double portion with two stuffed peppers, rice and bean with side of tortillas. My co worker had the steak Milano that was also a double portion. The chip and salsa is the best I have had outside of SoCal and very spicy if you like that! They were doing a lot of takeout orders so the dining room was not busy. I spoke with the son of the owner and he said it was his grandmother's recipe. Hmm I will be back when in the area! read more

I make the 30 minute trek to come here (Brewster) after unexpectedly driving by about a year ago. Extremely fresh and never had a single thing I didn't at least 'like.' Continuously experiment with the menu but often revert back to their skirt/flank steak. EXCELLENT ceviche, guac, margaritas and mojitos! And their hot sauce (yellowish/green) is actually 'hot!' I ordered the mole chicken which came with a heaping portion of rice, sauce, and chicken along with a side of tortillas. My fiance ordered the green chile chicken enchiladas and we were also given a few sides of sauce, salsa, and tortilla chips. I came here because of the reviews on Yelp and although the food was good, I was disgusted. The bathroom had no soap or toilet paper. When I spoke to the staff, a staff member took toilet paper in but not soap. I tried to mention again the soap part and she said "the soap was lost yesterday" while walking away from me as if I was not speaking to her. Seriously??? So everyone, staff included, who used the bathroom isn't washing their hands? I will never return to this restaurant and think the Health Department should probably surprise check this place. Additionally, the waitress put a steaming hot ceramic plate in front of me that didn't look hot and didn't warn us and I burned my hand trying to move it over. read more

Had a Sunday night dinner at this off the beaten path authentic Mexican. Quality eats including ceviche and healthy portions of tortilla chips with tasty salsa. So I got home from work late last evening with a yen for Mexican food. I googled "Mexican food near me" and discovered that there was a new restaurant on Rt. 22 called La Patrona. It's where the infamous La Frontera used to be, about half a mile south of Jaipore for those of you who know the area. So we checked out the menu and ordered take out, we were NOT disappointed. Let me start by saying that the place is not inexpensive, but the portions are very generous. The food was authentic and delicious. My kid went conventional and ordered the chimichangas. Three nice sized rolls of fried tortilla filled with beef and accompanied by rice, beans and guac. He enjoyed them. My wife ordered La Parrillada, a huge container of grilled flank steak, chicken breast and chorizo over peppers, onions and shrooms. It was delicious and she couldn't finish it. The chorizo had a nice kick. My only knock on her dish was that the flank steak was overdone, which could easily be a result of getting take out so I won't hold that against them. I ordered the Bistéc Tampiquena. It was a nice shell steak (still medium rare even after the trip home) accompanied by a cheese mole enchilada and the inevitable rice, refried beans and guac. It was delicious! The refried beans were, all joking aside, very tasty. The order came with chips and salsa. The chips were still warm, and the salsa had a nice little bite, but not over the top spicy. Anyway, it's nice to have an authentic Mexican place so close to home. I hope they succeed despite opening in the middle of a pandemic. Looking forward to sampling more of their menu, and even eating AT the restaurant when this insanity ends. read more

If you are looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant try La Patrona. The key word for the food and drinks is balanced. The margaritas were delicious and didn't taste like a glass of cheap tequila. I had Enchiladas DeMola . It comprised a rich Mola sauce with all of the traditional side dishes. My wife had Pork Fajitas. The spices in the dish were flavorful. Her only complaint was the pork had too much fat for her taste. The walls are covered in interesting paintings of flora and fauna of Mexico . Went on a slower Thursday night, with a slight rain. A newish restaurant in the area has been there for two years, but Covid put a dampening on the opening and early buzz. Same owners as Azteca in Mt. Kisco. The food was great, and portions were generous but not overly large. Good house cocktails, I had the Diablo Margarita. They have a broad menu.
