This review is based on takeout. I ordered the fried red snapper, and omg, it's perfection. The fish was huge and perfectly crispy. The white rice and salad that came with it were good as well. We've been here before. I have, too. They're one of the premier Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants in the state. Though not the cheapest, you'll get what you pay for -- and that's what we gambled on when it was Sunday night and we were both sick or tired. We ordered ourselves a drink and entree each, and an appetizer to meet the $18 off $50 coupon on Uber Eats. Needless to say, our driver was great; the hot food was hot (enough; queso is unforgiving by nature) and the cold stuff was cold. I'd give them some leniency due to delivery, but none was needed. My Macho Burrito would have been three meals in one had I not skipped lunch; instead, it was two. It was unfortunate I had to pay extra for things like lettuce and onions (even Taco Bell gives you both for free!) but the end result was to die for. I ordered two Diet Cokes to satisfy the coupon. I didn't expect them to come in Chinese take-out soup containers, but it worked! Fine by me! My only gripe is that there was a wooden stick in the queso dip that I bit down on. It hurt! No harm in the end, but come on. If you're using a wooden tool to cook, and you don't get the whole tool out, maybe you should take action. Do they also use glasses to scoop ice? I tried to report it privately and discreetly, but not seeing an email address on their temporary website to let the management know in a calm and private manner (yes, I'm glad your website is coming soon, but that does nothing for me), I have no choice but to share it publicly. All in all, I've eaten in person and at home, and gotten four wonderful meals over the years, despite some missteps in the kitchen. This is a wonderful chain in western and central Connecticut. Don't let one broken wooden stick ruin it for you. The food is authentic when it wants to be, impressive when it needs to be, and delicious all the time -- to say nothing of the margaritas, for which I'm overdue. read more

To add insult to injury, when we called to report the issue, she was super rude and blamed us for not reminding her . She said they were extremely busy. The baked tortilla with salsa started of dry bit I was hoping the Camarones ala diabla and the whole fried snapper with traditional rice and refried beans would just hit the spot. I asked for the dishes to be prepared spicy , however the tomato based sauce was really rancid, it was acidic and had an odor, I was so disappointed! The fried. My updated review - May 2024. 3 1/2 stars if that was an option. A friend of mine and I just recently dined at Puerto Vallarta again. To our disappointment they no longer put out tortilla chips on the table. While I understand some could eat baskets and baskets. But to not offer a basket when you first sit down? The subsitute for tortilla chips is what looks like over baked soft tortilla's. My friend asked and tortilla chips are now only by request. They come in a smaller basket and were broken. I had planned on taking a pic with our next basket. All baskets after your 1st basket is $3.00. Generally I dont ask for a 2nd basket but we still had queso fundido left to eat with them. My final disappointment all portions were smaller from our appetizer to our meals. Bring back tortilla chips to the table! read more

Ordered 3 burritos from Uber Eats with some modifications, additions of sauces, and soda. Puerto Vallarta not only included additional sauces, but they separated the ice from the soda in 2 separate, safety sealed cups. The takeout containers were platter style so the food wasn't cramped and sweating, and they included free chips, salsa and guacamole. It was an amazing experience and kudos to the staff that prepared and packaged the order with great pride in their product. 5 stars, we will be back read more

Six years ago, this was a great place. Now.... it's horrible. Slow service and ~horrible~ food. We tried to place an order last week for pick-up but the www-puertovallartausa-com website is ALWAYS DOWN! We used the Toast Takeout app instead, but it took forever to be ready. The food was mediocre at best, they forgot the peppers in one of the orders, and add on to that they ran out of chips, so we got salsa and stale flat-bread. This week things went from bad to worse. My tacos were so soggy they had disintegrated back into cornmeal. The overpriced Quac & Chips were all broken. But WORST of all my wife's cheese Enchilada came with ~white~ rice instead of Spanish rice, and as a "bonus" deep inside the horrible, orange greasy "cheese" was a Jagged Piece of Metal. To be specific: A STAPLE (see photo) It was pure luck that she caught it in her teeth, and that it didn't slice open her cheek or stab her tongue! She called the restaurant manager, and while he was all apologies, all he suggested was they deliver MORE food to us (like we wanted to see how much MORE jagged metal we might find?!?!?) Tried this place for delivery because we had an Uber Eats coupon. It was "meh" overall. We ordered: -cheese quesadilla- this was for a person with food allergies and they accommodated them perfectly, which is appreciated. -chicken quesadilla- the grilled chicken inside was good but dry.It was missing the tomatoes and onions as advertised on the menu. The tortillas for both quesadillas were uncooked like they were just taken from a package, which is weird, given the inside was warm. While it didn't taste bad, It made both quesadillas seem underwhelming and like it was something we could make the same or better at home for a third of the price and disappointed, wishing we chose something else. We definitely won't order quesadillas from here again. Mexican Street Corn- very good and the best part of the order. Taco Salad- also good and presented nicely. The sour cream and guacamole was packed separately, which was also appreciated. However, there was no salsa at all, not even for the bag of chips that came with the order. Wow has this place changed. Three stars is about value. It's damn expensive now!!! I wanted a typical Mexican experience - not upscale NYC style Rosa Mexicana flavor. Sangria is $12. Look at the fajita prices - no, I'm not spending $22 on veggie fajitas. The wine pour looks tiny (it's 6 oz). There is no happy hour. Basically, the entire menu is pricey. Good for them if the Danbury market supports it. Driving by on I-84 for sustenance, I would not stop though. It's a formal destination place now. read more

Recently visited for a friends birthday. We needed a table for 8 on a Saturday night, which took about 45 mins. We sat at the bar in the meantime and had drinks. The margaritas were good and the large size was ginormous! The coconut margarita was deemed the best flavor by our table. Our table was a little squished as they added some additional chairs next to a booth table so it made it hard for people to get in and out of the booth seats, both at our table and the table next to us. Service was kind of slow once seated and it took us a while to get our orders entered. Food was good, but definitely heavy. My burrito has good flavor to it and enough for leftovers. The restaurant helped us celebrate our friends birthday with cake and a song. Prices were reasonable here. I would go back, but likely with a smaller party. We had the pleasure of being served by a server named Dayana. She greeted us with a smile and she had a friendly disposition. She was very knowledgeable with the menu and also made recommendations of special dishes. Dayana was very attentive, and made sure that we had everything that we needed. How do you say "stay away" in Spanish? Stopped for dinner, it was not very busy. Tried to order draft beer but the taps were not working. Ok, so how about a fountain drink? Nope, that is part of the same system apparently. Bottled beer it is... but then the one I wanted was also not available. No chips, rather some kind of crispy tortillas on the table. OK fine, a bit odd but whatever. Waited at least 10 mins for the drinks maybe longer, they finally arrive. We ask if the kitchen is backed up, waiter says no... so we order.. Then wait... and wait...and wait.... About 25 minutes into the wait we asked for some chips which were nice and hot. I had set the timer on my phone when we ordered, 37 minutes to get a stupid burrito and some tacos with beef that was like shoe leather. This is a "one and done" for me, first and last visit. read more

This is really more of a 3.5 star rating then just a 3.... wish we could do that on Yelp! We tried this place for an early dinner the other night when in the area running errands. It is quite festive as far as decor and you can tell it is a well loved restaurant as it very was busy. There are plenty of sitting options indoors and outside. We opted for indoors as it was a little chilly out. Our waitress was prompt and friendly as we sat down, getting our drink orders and putting the kids food in right away. We shared a small pitcher of sangria which ended up being over 2.5 glasses for each of us, quite the value! The bartender presented the glasses with a lot of nice fruit and the flavor of the sangria was good. We are pretty picky on "great" sangria in general and while it was good, it was not in the top list we have had. If I came back, I might try their white sangria or a margarita instead. Waitress made the boys chocolate milk perfectly though! We opted for table side guacamole which they don't do table side and that is too bad. I know some places are opting not to with Covid but it makes a difference as far as flavor and texture. The guacamole we got, you could tell had been sitting, and had way too many large chunks of tomato making it even more watery. My oldest son loves guacamole and said he didn't like this "one at all"..... too bad.. Tableside guacamole is also more expensive so it really should be made fresh. The rest of our food came out quickly and was good. The boys liked their food- chicken tenders and fries are offered which helps if you have children that don't like the typical Mexican food fare. My husband and I liked our food, but were not blown away. I think we would give this place another try if in the area but try some different things. read more

Chef Romero does it again. Every time I visit there is some sort of magic that happens and our dinner last night was no exception- full of such delicious, unique and untypical bites. I really like surprises now. I have been exposed to so much working with food, so I really admire and crave things I have never tasted tasted and names I have never heard of. Let's talk about all of the wonderful things we tasted: Tiradito- never tried this before in my life and it was out of this world. A perfect summer dish. Tiradito is a Peruvian dish of raw fish, cut in the shape of sashimi, and of aspect similar to crudo, and carpaccio, in a spicy sauce. It reflects the influence of Japanese immigrants on Peruvian cuisine. It has thinly sliced wild caught tuna, salmon, green apple, tangerine slices in a Mexican teriyaki sauce made with fresh habanero, scallions and ginger. Wow! Talk about delicious and different. A+ We also had: Mexican tuna tartar Pork belly Guac Mexican Oyster Rockefeller---so fun! And again- unique spin. Pork Belly Tacos- amazing! My friends enjoyed some awesome margaritas and it was a great night on their super fun patio. Think tiki umbrellas and lighted gazebos. Another fun summer bucket list place to visit for sure. Very unique dining situation outside in the winter in the bubble. I do enjoy this restaurant, some of the items on the menu can be a hit or miss though. I sat at the bar to grab a drink and something simple. I sat for OVER 10 minutes before being acknowledged, that was piss poor. Ordered a draft beer which took an additional 8 minutes somehow the keg was empty and I got bottled beer. No big deal but the about the beer but damn where is the customer service. The manager could clearly see I was annoyed but didn't give a damn. In these times we all need to be treated with kindness, respect and decency especially in the hospitality industry. The service is always great but the prices have gotten insane with the portion you get. $38 for a carne asada that was paper thin! I'm sorry but the taste and food quality isn't great at all. If you want good authentic Mexican food this isn't the place. Also to mention that on our last visit the seating was destroyed so bad and sticky. Okay, so driving by and see the super cute igloos in the back. Figured we would try it out. The hostess and waitress were very nice and attentive. My margarita was good. My son wanted calamari as an appetizer and this was the only one he saw on the menu. The Chicharron De Calamares (Dinner Special). We had one taste each and that was enough. It was pretty gross. Definitely not tubes only and was chewy and just we never have to try it again. My son said his carne Asada quesadilla was fine. My other son kind of built his own burrito and said it was fine too. I ordered the California quesadilla: it was not terrible, but, I wouldn't go back for one. The chicken was not even warm. I had a few bites and bringing home the rest. I came here after my long date of house showings for a clients to get some drinks and food to wind down. I had a pretty good experience here the two times I came. The margaritas with chips and guac is always my favorite things to order whenever I come here. First time I came, I tried a combo rice type dish that came with steak, chicken and shrimp with veggies and rice, very delicious. I came here while visiting from out of town. There is a Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn within walking distance. Just be careful crossing the highways. If you drive then there's plenty of parking that is shared with a nearby fitness club in the same plaza. The restaurant has ample indoor seating, a full bar and outdoor seating - all of which are very well decorated! The decorations are all throughout the restaurant including the bathroom, walls, and ceilings. It really is a pleasure to enjoy! However, the well thoughtout decor must compensate for what they lack in flavor. Seriously, I think salt and pepper were the only seasiongs used. This is precisely why I hate paying for food outside when I can get better flavor and quality at home. I was feeling a bit sick and ordered the Soupa de tortilla - I was not a fan. You know the store brand can of greenbeans and carrots you buy for like $1...well that, plus tasteless broth were the basis of my soup. I 100% can tell it was not cooked fresh. If I had to guess, I'd say it came from a can and cheese+tortillas were added on top. You can pass on this. I followed up with fish tacos and same thing, no flavor. Personal preference and recommendation - tacos get soggy very quickly, particularly if you're using single corn tortillas. Double up on the corn tortillas, add more flavor and you'll be all set with this dish. 3 stars go to the portion sizes, pleasant staff, and decor. This is a work trip so my meals are paid for but I'd be disappointed if I paid for lackluster food out of pocket. Overall this is a pass and I won't return, sorry. read more
