So we were in the area for the meaderies and vineyards and looking for some heavy food to keep us alive throughout our drinking ventures, and so i looked on yelp for some good bbq in the area and found this. The reviews said it was great and people drove out of the way to have it so i had high hopes once we got there, the service was great. The person who took out order was nice, But once we got the food, it was terrible. The meat had no seasonings or spice to be seen or tasted. And the BBQ sauces ( we tried 3 different ones) were all an overwhelming flavor of tomato sauce. Again, barely any kick or flavor. Cute building they are located in! Luv the dining area for all the stores/shops in the building. Omgosh the brisket is so tender and the rub they use is to die for (10 stars!). Yummy.. beans have a great flavor hubby ate them all . Greens are good, different then what I'm used to but still enjoyable. I luv pork ribs and these are at the top of my list The Mac n cheese definitely taste home cooked, your not going to find home tasting Mac and cheese no where else... dig in! I'm just going to gloss over how shocked and surprised I am to see so many good reviews on this place. Let's start with the good. The atmosphere of this place is great! It's this funky little place with dirt floors and a farmer's market and lots of activities around. Super cool hang with a funky little bar that is fun to hang out in. Now to the Smok'd Hog. The first time we ate here we had an assortment of BBQ items. The best thing we had was the smoked sausage. The brisket was a little on the dry side but not the worst I've ever had. Everything else was just kind of blah. I also detected no smoke flavor whatsoever. As others have mentioned the mac and cheese was fairly good but really not any different than any other mac and cheese I've had. So I decided to give them another try. Since I didn't think the BBQ was very good I thought I would try the burger. They describe it as a brisket burger and charge around 17 bucks for it so I figured it must be pretty good. If they were entering a competition for the worst burger on the planet I think they might come pretty close to winning. I can't believe that anyone looked at that burger and thought, yeah this looks great they will love this. It was literally a piece of meat on a bun with a bunch of burnt cheese, nothing else. Also, I ordered this monstrosity at the same time my friends ordered food from some of the other establishments and my friends were eating for 25 minutes before I got my food. As a Texan and BBQ fanatic, I actually asked these guys where in Texas they grew up. San Diego! It's real easy to screw up a brisket and hard to cook it perfectly. Total labor of love. This is my third visit to this barbecue place that's really close to where I live. I really enjoyed this meal and I was really happy overall with how everything came out overall. The beef brisket sandwiches were awesome. (Love the pickled onion and sweet pickles they added to my brisket sandwich) and tender/ juicy and not fatty. The mac n cheese was really great especially when you added a little bit of their sweet Carolina barbecue sauce on top. The only down side was the pork ribs were a little on the tough side. The flavor was great but they just came out of the smoker and in my opinion needed more time to get more tender. Brisket was good but a little drier than I expected. The pulled chicken was so flavorless it was like it was tossed in a bag and boiled without any seasoning. Using meat from a Costco rotisserie chicken would've been a vast improvement. I mean I know it's not "hog" meat so I guess I can't be too disappointed, but neither is the brisket and that was decent. I'm not sure how they prep the chicken but they need to do better or take it off the menu. My 10 y/o daughter gave it a score of 5 out of 10. Definitely room for improvement! The greens were legit. I'm glad I chose them over my typical mac and cheese go-to. The coleslaw was good too according to those who tried it (I didn't). Pet peeve here, if a group of people places an order for 3 different entrees, they should separate them accordingly instead of lumping all the meat together in one pile. We ordered 2 meals that both had 1/3 lb of brisket and instead of separating it they just piled 2/3 lb onto the tray. Forcing customers to share a pile of brisket? You trying to start fights? Great brisket! I needed 3 pounds of brisket and didn't want to cook it. Many friends suggested ordering from the swing inn in old town Temecula (never tried before). I called them, I was put on hold for 10 mins, call Jack got someone who said that I would have to call back at 4 PM and speak with the manager. So I started searching on yelp for other options. Found the Smoked Hog- and they couldn't be more accommodating and friendly and helpful. My order was ready within an hour, and the brisket was a huge hit ! I gotta admit, I was skeptical about this place. The location is touristy, some of the reviews were not great & it's in a small food court. But I was happily surprised that my doubts were unfounded. I got the brisket plate with beans, tater salad & a side of cornbread... the meat was delicious and tender (like "butta"), I cut it with my fork. The beans were very tasty (a little runny, but who cares when it's so good). The potato salad needed a bit of salt, but scrumptious (fat bacon bits... I mean, come on!) and the cornbread was insanely yummy. I'm not some BBQ noob, either. Been to Texas many times & know what good barbecue is supposed to be (if you think Phil's is good, don't even talk to me). I've eaten here twice now. I'm very picky about my BBQ, especially brisket. I know what's good and what I like. So when I say it's average, it comes with its good and bad comments to come to this 3 star rating. Now ordering has always been a pleasure! The cookhouse food hall is adorable and the staff always have smiling faces despite being mostly slammed of the 4 options in the hall. Both times I've ordered to go. The small grease-stained cardboard boxes would stuff a paper bag with a couple of sauces to enjoy at a friend's house. Back at the friend's place, we dig in. Both times we've ordered, we ask for burnt ends, which they've graciously provided. I LOVE burnt ends! I eat my BBQ without sauce, generally. The bark on the brisket and burnt ends is a bit overkill: too salty and at times too spicy for my taste. I tried to counter all that by adding some sauce, but then I couldn't taste the meat, which was tender and cooked well. I'm so torn! If they'd only modify their rub slightly to decrease the salt & spiciness, this would be rad. As for sides, it's a tad disappointing: overly oniony/garlicky flavored mac that barely has any cheese sauce on it. It's like they added just enough cheese sauce to coat the noodles. There's no creaminess to it at all. But even then the powdered spice additions of onion & garlic are too extra so the mac turns into this whole battle of figuring out if eating it is even worth it. More cheese sauce, less spice. I want to taste the cheese! Bottom line: I'm a HUGE fan of spice. But this place is where I draw a line. Many places can do well to increase spice levels but this is the first I've encountered where I insist to tone it down (just a bit). On a side note, my friend said that he's tried the links too. Minus one star for last night This time around not that great of an experience as our last but we are knee deep into this omricon wave so morale everywhere I go is low So customer service was blah. I feel for the employees it's a tough time though. However our food was cold in the middle specifically the brisket, ribs, and the beans we came in around 6 it's pretty cold in there so maybe that's why. Would give it 3 stars but the food was so tasty though so saving grace still well everything but the beans not sure what that is. It's in the food hall love all the different food options in their it was totally dead on a weds evening we literally were the only people eating inside. I am going with 3 out of 5 stars because I think they have some room for growth. I know the location is new and they still working out the kinks but I didn't think the meat and the sides were balanced flavor wise. To start the brisket spice and salt level were out of balance for my taste. The salt level on the brisket impeded on my taste buds ability to enjoy the meat. Unfortunately when we arrived all the sliced brisket was sold out so I think they made an attempt to keep the chop brisket juicy by adding a salt broth to it. Not for me. We also ordered the chicken but when it came out it was "naked". Absolutely zero skin on BBQ chicken. Kind of odd or a red flag for me. It didn't taste or look like it was smoke (see attached pics). Really odd. Not sure why they thought it was a idea to remove the skin that contains the flavor and seasons from the chicken. We also purchased multiple sides but the sides had different levels of salt and spice that didn't compliment the meat. I think it may take a couple of more weeks for this location to adjust the recipes but they have potential. Worth checking out to form your own opinion. read more

They got our order completely wrong. It was our first time trying the place so we called up and ordered a little bit of everything; 1/2 lb of each of the meats, a half rack of ribs, a couple of hot links, one of the sandwiches (the Cubano) and several sides (collard greens, baked beans, coleslaw, cornbread, potato salad). When we arrived we picked up our order and brought it home, and this is what we found out: - Instead of 1/2 pound of each of the meats, our order had been converted to one of their plate combos. So all of the portion sizes were ridiculously small and not anywhere enough to feed a family of four - The brisket, ribs, collard greens and cornbread were flat out MISSING - Minor but they even screwed up my name :p It sucks when we drive a half hour to try some BBQ (an hour round trip) only to find out that the main meats people get BBQ for - the brisket and ribs - weren't even in the order. If the food was amazing, however, it might have been forgivable. Unfortunately the food didn't do the place any favors. Each food had the same problem - there just wasn't enough flavor. From the links to the sides and even the BBQ sauce - they all tasted like bland, watered down versions of themselves. To put it another way, they all tasted weaker than you'd expect based on how they looked. Just not enough seasoning. I lived in Texas for almost 5 years and so maybe I'm pickier than most around here when it comes to good BBQ, but I just wasn't impressed. The owners were very nice & welcoming and so was the young lady running the cash register. The brisket was so good and tender and the sides were on point. We had the Pulled Pork Sandwich and what they refer to as a Cuban Sandwich and two beers. Quite pricey for size of sandwiches and the small amount of meats inside with no sides. They call it a Cuban but it's far from it. Need to improve it and use the right bread, not a hamburger bun. We were a bit disappointed and left hungry after spending over $40!
