There were a handful of decent trucks, but none memorable enough for me to remember any names. Because the lines were so long, I was relegated to picking the shortest line, which happened to be an italian food truck called Mangia Mangia. I ordered an italian sausage panini and a side of garlic fries for a grand total of $13. The panini was small and the garlic fries were soaked in oil but had decent flavor. I got through half the order and tossed the rest. It was just too oily. I also tried a blue cheese and bacon slider from another truck at $5. It wasn't impressive. Unfortunately, the best thing I ate was an ice cream sandwich. It was two chocolate chip cookies on either side of a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. The cookies were soft and delicious and the vanilla bean was perfect. For this to be the highlight was a huge letdown. Had there been 40 trucks here, the lines would have been a lot shorter. My GF ordered a groupon bogo and I felt she overpaid. She did it for me. I'm glad we opted not to purchase the VIP upgrade because the tent was packed. I should have picked up on my GF's lack of enthusiasm for the event. She kinda knew it was going to be weak, but it was my first event. In hindsight, there should not have been a cover charge but there should have been a cap on how many people could come in and out. Pechanga could have charged each truck a percentage of their sales instead of taking it out on us. And another thing, would it have killed them to provide more shade for people? If you're going to go balls to the wall on advertising, then you better make sure you have an adequately planned event. This event sucked...

And after having been to Portland where there are food truck lots on every corner, and NO admission fee, I say, So Cal, you have really missed the boat on this one. We got in early, and for half the advertised price thanks to Groupon. But half off was no bargain. Still $40 for two for VIP tickets, it sounded classy. Not. And what did my $40 buy me? The event was in a small, fenced in parking area (felt like an oversized dog run) with a sorry number of trucks and Chick Sales for bathroom facilities. There was a small tented area with some tables for VIP seating, that was not well monitored. Meaning, regular ticket holders boldly infiltrated. Free drinks (water or soda), free tangerines, and free cheap candy. And frantic searching for any kind of seat. So then, what about the food? Sticker shock for me. Everything was not a sample sized, but rather full-sized, full priced entrees. After spending over $38 for several entrees that we shared, we found ourselves satiated. So lets see. $38 + $40 = $78. For that kind of money, I could have had a very decent meal at a 5 star Yelped restaurant, sitting down at a table with a tablecloth, maybe a flower, some free bread and butter, served to me in an air conditioned, tastefully decorated dining room, a clean indoor bathroom, and a witty, clever server taking care of my every need. and I wouldn't have have driven 50+ miles one way. Badly planned and mis-represented to all those people who showed up that day. And long, long lines by the time we left at noon. And pretty hot. Big Failure. Us?....well... we left after an hour of trying to have fun, and moved on to a couple of wineries in the area, where we sipped and smoozed and finished the remainder of the day in high style. And put Pechanga out of our minds.
