I have come here three different times and it's been very sub par. I think The Monkey Bridge Noodle Soup is supposed to be their take on Hu Tieu Nam Vang, but not executed very well. Another reviewer had said it was sweet and I agree. Not much rich pork flavor you would expect, it's a watery and sweet tasting broth. Might be the same broth they use for their dumpling noodle soup. Not to mention again it has broccoli in it which is not typical. I will give them credit for allowing you to choose between rice noodles or egg noodles for this soup specifically as it should be anywhere. Stopped in for lunch today. The person working the counter was super sweet and explained that we can still dine-in; they just package everything as a to-go order for now (which is really no problem - it's just different containers). I had a vegetarian bahn mi and really enjoyed it. They cook the tofu in a sweet-savory sauce that really brings the whole thing together. The bread was great, too! Seemed fairly fresh. We dropped by on a Thursday evening and the shop had lots of seating. Portion sizes were huge for the price (mine was 1.5x a comfortable size)! My friend and I had lunch here on a weekday, as she recommended it for Vietnamese food. I had never heard about this place, so didn't know what to expect. But I'm glad we tried it, especially because The Monkey Bridge serves bun bo hue! We started with tofu spring rolls and holy crap, were those delicious. The spring rolls tasted very fresh with a thick slice of tofu tucked in. I would highly recommend getting the spring rolls here to start. For lunch, my friend ordered pho while I went with the Hue City Beef Noodle Soup, which is basically bun bo hue. Food didn't take long to get and I really enjoyed the bun bo hue. I love spicy noodle soups, which this was. Spice wasn't much, but it complemented the beef broth, which had great flavor. The flank was perfectly cooked, as it wasn't overly so. The lemongrass addition was distinct, making the soup fragrant and have a tart flavor that was nice with the spices. I would order this again. Their menu is not as extensive or many variation as other places I've been to. They have flank, meatball, and beef brisket for the pho but none included tripe and tendons. Their broth is super sweet, a bit overwhelming and lack savory flavor. The sandwich itself always tasted very sweet that the sauce seems like there's condensed milk to it. Found this little Vietnamese place in Ballard on a recent Sunday for lunch, and so happy we did. Food was really enjoyable (tried their pho, vermicilli, and banh mi sandwiches, as well as their goi cuon). Everything we had was fresh & flavorful. Really delicious food, and will want to return to try some other items on the menu, as well. It was good pho. Whether or not it was authentic, I can't really say. It's a small restaurant with cute decor and service was friendly and fast on a Saturday afternoon. There is definitely a lot of sodium (likely of the MSG variety) in the soup, as evidenced by my bathroom scale the next morning, though. It was good, but not wow-worthy. But when i look at the prices for the other dishes, i thought it was a pricy. Decent amount of meat and gave more than enough of noodle. I got a little full after i finish eating. Tried spring roll, lemongrass pork dish, and beef pho from here as take-out. The order was ready super fast, so did not have to wait for long, which was great. However, the food was average. Spring roll felt mushy with too much noodle in the roll, not enough crunchy veggies. Lemongrass pork dish was 70% rice, 15% steamed veggies without any sauce, and 15% ginger flavored pork. Was not impressed. Finally the pho, it was really average, nothing more or less. I think I would rather choose to drive a bit further for better pho place, just a personal thought. read more

Speaking just for the vermicelli rice noodle bowls and baguette with soup. Both were AMAZING and such balanced, delicious dishes to have during the heatwave. The vermicelli bowls had an abundance of veggies and SO much meat! The beef was well marinated and made it so I didn't need to much of the dressing. The baguette/banh mi are everything you'd want in a sandwich: light, crunchy, and filled with loads of meat! It was super flavorful and paired well with the soup that came with it. Yeah I'll say it: this is the best Vietnamese food in Seattle outside of the ID. I don't say that lightly, as Vietnamese is one of my very favorite cuisines and I have pretty high standards, but nearly everything I've tried at Monkey Bridge has been great. The shrimp salad rolls are a must for me every time I go - they're always super fresh, with a great balance of ingredients, and just wonderful. I have had soup on a few occasions, and each time was very satisfied to receive a bowl full which included firm, tender mushrooms and crunchy baby bok choy. The flavors were delicate yet full and well rounded. One of my go-to orders is the pork bahn-mi, which is one of the best you'll find anywhere. The sweet and savory sauce on the pork is absolute perfection, just bursting with flavor. The baguette has a nice crunchy crust, and the veggies are always super fresh. It comes with congee which is nice, and I always get jalapeños because for me it needs a little heat. Want to hear the weirdest gripe ever? The sandwich has TOO MUCH meat on it. I know...not something I thought I'd ever complain about, but honestly, they could do with about 1/2 as much pork and it would still have more meat than any other bahn-mi around, and would be much more balanced. The House Special Noodle Creation is my other fave - this is their name for 'bun', the traditional salad style noodle bowl with fish sauce. It's a great rendition, clean, light and delicious.
