First time at this location,the service was awesome and the workers are very knowledgeable and friendly. They have a lot of varieties of flavors and we got four different kinds(peanut butter,eggnog and coconut pistachio) all these flavors were delicious. The only thing that I didn't like was the price of the popsicles was a big overpriced other then that this is a nice place to cool off during the summer months.

Stopped in last night at my favorite place the Hyppo! My mom and I got kid popsicles in flavor strawberry. I spoke to Sierra who was such a delight to talk to. I expressed to her how I love the ice pops at the hyppo because they have dairy free options and I'm allergic to dairy. Ambiance is a mix of mom and pop homemade ice pops with a wide range of flavors plus 21+ options!! 10/10

You really can't say no to gourmet popsicles! The shop is cute and the staffs were friendly. The menu features many unique flavor combinations. We tired the mango mojito and strawberry datil, both tasted very fresh. The mango mojito was like a refreshing mocktail in popsicle form, while the strawberry datil has the perfect balance between the sweetness of the strawberry and the datil pepper heat. they also offer alcoholic options which we didn't try this time. This is a perfect stop for a hot day.

Amazing popsicle (Elvis dipped in chocolate) and even better customer service by Elizabeth we all enjoyed talking with her and her kindness.

This was a refreshing stop to cool off from the sun. They had tasty popsicles, plenty of colorful seating, and great air conditioning. You can sit inside or head out to the back patio, which was a nice option. It was my toddler's first time ever having a popsicle and she loved the chocolate one. The fun, silly artwork on the walls made the place even more entertaining and kid-friendly. They also gave us a punch card so we can earn a free item on a future visit, which was a nice bonus. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a quick, fun, and cool treat!

All of the flavors are great. I went with a simple strawberry when I went. Hyppo also offers to chocolate dip any of the pops. Though I was not in a sweet mood and wanted something more refreshing, I am hoping to try it the next time I am in town. The staff are super friendly and had great recommendations. Though I will say it is very hot inside the store when I went during the summer. The fans do not provide that much circulation.

Cute shop and delicious popsicles. As soon as we came in we were greater and had all the popsicles explained to us. So many incredible choices. We all made our selections and enjoyed them. I chose the pineapple hatch and it was the perfect balance of spicy and sweet. It packed major punch. Which is what you would want when something has hatch chilis. But then the sweet pineapple was the perfect contrast. They even had adult only flavors. We don't try them but plan to next time.

Tried the Mango Habanero, you could clearly taste the Habanero, but very little of the Mango. Still worth giving the place a shot, given the variety of Popsicles. read more

These are naturally flavored with fruits and they make excellent popsicle/ice cream bars. My favorite was the avocado coconut. They can also dip it in chocolate for just one dollar more if your little more adventurous. But if you're looking for a healthy ice cream if there is such a thing then this is the place to go. read more

Vacationing and stopped by this place for a cool popsicle. Popsicle is an understatement. It's like an icy piece of heaven melting in your mouth! My family and I went back four times. AMAZING! We visited the Hyppo twice during our visit to St. Augustine. The flavors are original and spot on. I love that the pops are refreshing yet don't get too messy. I admit, I'm too cheap to pay $3.50 for an ice pop. However, the flavor combinations sound awesome! I went to The Hyppo for coffee, food & free Wi-Fi last winter. I'm not sophisticated about coffee--I drink unflavored, caffeinated coffee with sweetener & cream. Theirs was hot, flavorful & reasonably priced. I was very hungy so I ordered a salad AND a sandwich. They seemed a bit pricey to me (remember cheap?) but when I got them they were generous portions (especially the salad!), fresh ingredients & very tasty. All in all, a YUM experience. I rarely eat out but I'd go back to The Hyppo or take friends there. Oh, & the Wi-Fi worked great. ;-) read more

We were looking for something refreshing after a long warm day of sightseeing. We just happened upon this place and are glad that we did. I have been 3 times now, every unique flavor is amazing. My last 2 visits I tried the blueberry goat cheese and the watermelon hibiscus. The lady working was helpful in describing all the flavors. The garden in the back makes a perfect place to snack on Popsicles. read more

Excellent popsicles. Wish I had tried them when they were $2.99...Ok so they went up 50 cents. still worth it. My favorite so far is the Spicy Thai Peanut Sauce. Cucumber Avocado? Too much cucumber. Pineapple Cilantro? Ya really gotta like Cilantro...a lot! Elvis Presley? Yum! Raspberry Chipotle? Good. Banilla Vanana? Good. Riesling Pear? Where's the Riesling? Peach? Just peachy! If you visit St Augustine you will have to stop here. What a fabulous treat. If you like bananas and peanut butter you must try the "Elvis" dipped in chocolate. All their flavors are perfectly done. Small batches. Coconut, another favorite. The store is super clean, bright, and friendly. The clerk was such a nice girl. We will be back any time we are near. LOVED it. read more

Really cute shop and very friendly barista. He answered all my questions and explained the popsicles are made in St. Augustine with local and fresh ingredients. I had coconut pistachio one day and it was delicious. A nice cool summer time treat that is not as heavy as ice cream and chocolate. My husband had the key lime and he loved it. We went back another day and my husband had plain coconut and loved that one too. Next time I will try a different mix like the datil pepper & strawberry. Datil is a pepper native to St. Augustine. If you're a coffee snob like me, you will also like the coffee--it's roasted in nearby Jax. I would recommend this fun place to stop as you stroll around the ancient city. I don't think $3.50 for a snack is that much actually. read more

The best Popsicle a human being can possibly consume within the radius of planet earth. While in college at Flagler College I was at The Hyppo most days of the week getting Popsicles to go and to visit my friends who worked there. The owner is hard working and I have watched him grow this business from the ground up on his own. The products are mostly homemade especially popcicles. I can't stop eating Ice cream here. I visit this place everytime when I come to St. Augustine, FL. Today, I tried the honeydew flavor and creamy walnut flavor. Creamy walnut flavor is awesome. I wondered why there are not many creamy walnut flavors in the container. I think I'll have some more on the way back to my home. read more

Just GO!!! It does not disappoint! Literally the best Popsicle I've ever had!!! We tried the Blackberry Lavender Lemonade, Guava Tangerine & Banana Split. All were tasty & refreshing! The Blackberry Lavender Lemonade is well balanced and just tart enough! The Guava Tangerine was more on the sweeter side but if you like tropical flavors it will definitely be a hit! And the Banana Split, you can't go wrong with a classic flavor in Popsicle form!!! Already craving another!!! read more

Truly believe that this is the culinary jewel of St. Augustine -- a store that does nothing but fresh fruit popsicles. What a unique concept. I had the lime mojito and my husband had the coconut. All the flavors, at least when we went there, are non-dairy. Great concept. Great, intense flavors (although my mojito was a little grainy from the mint that had floated to the top during the freezing process but it was still so good). Great to see somebody making truly great food using local, in-season ingredients. Beats the hell out of the other chain places like Killwins. Even though the coconut was non dairy, it was still rich and creamy. The other flavors, I think (since I didn't have a chance to sample them all) would be light and refreshing in the Florida heat. My husband loved this place so much I couldn't get him to stop talking about it for an hour. He thinks he could be the next popsicle tycoon. The only other fresh fruit popsicles I've had were being sold by a street vendor during Adams Morgan Day in Washington, DC -- and they weren't nearly as flavorful. Maybe this will be the next cupcake trend. read more

We tried this place on our first trip to St. Augustine and loved it! very memorable with the wide variety of flavors! I had a watermelon mint pop and my daughter had one with goat cheese and berries (so many interesting flavors). We later followed them on instagram and saw that they hid tokens around the city for free pops! Loved it! Great place to go on a hot St. Augustine day! read more

This is a place you MUST visit! My husband and I have been coming here for years, and we love it! The Hyppo had such unique flavors, and they are all always great! You can never go wrong with anything there. Their new bigger location is also great to sit inside to enjoy your popsicle. They might seem expensive at first, but after one lick, you'll know it is totally worth it! The high quality ingredients are amazing! read more

Quaint and charming homemade popsicle shop across from Casa Maya on Hypolita St. I had the coconut flavor. It was much more rich/sweeter than I would have expected, but it was delicious. They have a handful of flavors and they change the menu board daily...kind of wish I would have tried the Datl Pepper/Strawberry variety (a spicy popsicle!? Interesting.) There's always "next time." I would go back here if I am ever in St Augustine again. read more

Specialties

The Hyppo specializes in gourmet popsicles (paletas) which are made on site from fresh fruits and spices. Our pops are all natural frozen fruit on a stick with flavors ranging from funky to tangy to spicy to creamy to refreshing. Some of our flavors include Mango Habanero, Key Lime, Sour Ginger Plum, Blueberry Cinnamon, Champagne Mango, Blackberry Clove, and Strawberry Basil. All recipes have been developed in house (now over 60) and are based on seasonal availability- as such the menu is constantly changing. We also feature Intelligentsia Black Cat espresso, a direct trade coffee roasted to an ever-elusive goal of perfection by a group of coffee super-nerds - the result is fruity, creamy, and served in ceramic.

History

Established in 2010.

In the early months of 2010 Stephen DiMare was working in Montana for a winter at the Lodge at Big Sky and flew home to St. Augustine for a friend's wedding. On the flight he pitched his idea for a coffee shop to the (random) nice woman sitting next to him. She told him that what he needed in his coffee shop were ice pops, gourmet ice pops in the Mexican style. Stephen listened as she explained that paletas (Spanish for ice pops) could contain anything from cucumbers to fresh pineapple to jalapeños. With his interest piqued, Stephen returned to Montana to finish the winter ski season. He bought a set of cheap plastic ice pop molds and spent his evenings trying different combinations of flavors (as there is nothing to do in Montana after dark) and let the guests at the hotel try them and give feedback. When he came back to St. Augustine in April he had enough money saved to buy some semi-industrial ice pop molds and pay first and last months' rent on a little retail space in downtown S

During that initial stay, I walked here a couple of times to pick up treats and they didn't disappoint. Since then it has become a go-to when we have guests visiting and want to have dessert on hand. It is a pretty interior space with desserts and treats galore. They are beautifully made and a treat for all your senses. The staff on my visits have always been so friendly and helpful. (I love the southern hospitality we experience at so many places in St. Augustine.) My favorite treat may just be the cannoli. They are smaller sized than what I am used to back home...but this is good thing! in my opinion. There are an assortment of chocolates, brownies, cookies, some candies, croissants...and a variety of cakes and pies. We are not huge sweets eaters but this place is hard to resist.

If St. Augustine had an official taste, I'm convinced it would be from The Hyppo. This place absolutely lived up to the hype and then some. We stopped by after walking around downtown, sat outside in the beautiful weather, and had one of those "this is why vacations are worth it" moments. The popsicles were phenomenal -- ridiculously refreshing, full of flavor, and somehow both nostalgic and gourmet at the same time. Every bite tasted homemade and perfectly crafted. But honestly, what made the experience unforgettable was the service. Roscoe was incredible. Friendly, welcoming, funny, patient, and genuinely seemed excited that we were there. He completely elevated the whole experience and made us feel less like customers and more like guests he was happy to host. In a tourist town where service can sometimes feel rushed, Roscoe stood out in the best possible way. The whole atmosphere was perfect -- colorful popsicles, charming downtown scenery, outdoor seating, and that relaxed St. Augustine energy. Had coconut flavor once and I was good, coconut is my favorite flavor in all ice cream. Every time I go there and ask for the coconut they are always out or the don't have tried other flavors they were terrible lack of flavors you don't taste anything will never be back. read more

Only stopped in on a recent visit to St. Aug. They have some pretty funky flavors that all sound great but I went safe and got the watermelon popsicle. If you close your eyes, it's literally like biting into a frozen slice of watermelon. Good stuff, this place. read more
