We had a good time here, the staff was engaging, the food was decent (average bar food), and the ambiance was like a standard neighborhood bar with a "wee bit of the blarney." The food is slightly lacking vs. other Irish pubs I've frequented, but it's still good. There's the way I grew up expecting these dishes to be prepared, and there's the simplified version they serve. They make some odd choices sometimes, like taking on St. Patrick's Day by just saying, "We'll just let patrons fight it out for seating," and serving corned beef and cabbage cafeteria-style. A big shout-out to the bartender who served us--the one who was in the military. He was absolutely amazing: friendly, respectful, and really attentive. Here's where I think the Harp excels: Live music nights. Come have some beers and enjoy the live music. 9/10 BSU or college football nights. I totally understand, but the gaps in service are just too long. In the three times I have visited, I have had to wait for food or drinks. I do appreciate the apology and the comp of the beer, but I believe what is lacking is the awareness of your customers. If you see that the pint is half-full, check in and ask if they want another. If there's a delay in the food order, bring some peanuts. It's called being on top of your customers and then distracting them. For now, I would not recommend eating or snacking here, the wait is simply too long, and there are not sufficient available snacks while you're having a drink. Does this mean I won't be back? Nice to find an Irish Pub in Idaho. The whiskey selection was really good. The ambiance was festive. Our waiter was distracted most the time, though they were not busy. The bangers/mash were really good but the sausage rolls and Brie cheese pastry were very messy and just okay at best. Those three combined took over 45 minutes to come out. Oh dear- the whole experience was pretty much a disaster. Except for what was likely the new girl behind the counter looking perplexed, it was impossible to tell who was working that night. Evening, December 6th, 2025. No one paid a lick of attention to us, even though we were the only couple at the bar, and there was only one other party seated near the door, and one couple behind us. Kept trying to ask for drinks, and order food. We did get one round of drinks, which tasted good, but the gal kept staring at the computer screen while we kept trying to ask for another. We were polite and kept waiting for her to finish, but she wouldn't look over, even though we were about 6 feet from her. The younger gentleman with the long dark hair seemed to be running the place, but wouldn't take our order when we tried to ask him (he was running around talking to the other customers) He referred us to the new gal behind the bar. We finally ordered, and waited. And waited. The kitchen kept bringing out bowls of Mac n cheese, which no one seemed to have ordered. We asked about our food several times over, and was told it's coming. Finally, the new gal looked us straight into n the face and asked us if we would pay our tab. What? We said, fine. But what about our food? She said, oh, uh, I'm not sure. I asked the long haired guy, and he looked at me like we were just a bother. We're two normal, paying customers, who as far as I know aren't offensive looking or smelling, and were perfectly pleasant normal guests. So we paid and left. Hungry and confused. One of the oddest experiences we've had in a restaurant, that's for sure. My husband got the bangers and he said it didn't have much flavor. My MIL got the Shepard's pie and she said it wasn't good at all. I got the potato soup and it was as thick as mashed potatoes, a grayish color, and tasted horrible. I also got a side salad and it was good. We inquired with our bartender to see where our food was because we were getting a little hungry and ended up having to deal with the owner who came out with the sandwich and was very angry. She literally accused us of being rude and said that the food was homemade, which why wouldn't it be! All we wanted was a sandwich Nothing that was like a huge deal. She threw the sandwich on the counter, berated us, and at that point we finally decided it was not for us and we left. I would never go back into the establishment again, such horrible people skills. And I'm fairly certain I only actually saw them bring food out to about 5 people while we were there, so it wasn't that busy.. I don't think I would've cared had the waiter informed immediately upon sitting down, "hey it's going to be over an hour." I've just truly even in the busiest of restaurants never waited that long for food. By no means is it even worth the price and despite the service, I have a hard time understanding how this place has 4 stars. My sandwich was about the size of 2 sliders and didn't come with chips or fries... wish I would've paid more attention to the pictures in other reviews. It was also really dry but I ate in about 30 seconds because of how starving I was by the time my food came. My husbands shepherds pie he said tasted more like shredded beef than lamb and he said it was definitely not worth 15 bucks. This is a great little spot that I hope survives due to location and it's somewhat different cuisine. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, I really enjoyed chatting about how the concept came about. Their menu is on the lean side but I'll chalk that up to having great food based on what I ate. Oh my.... where to start.... cool place, could be a fun place to hang out. We just happened to make it a point to visit when there was a slow train wreck happening. First and foremost it is important to acknowledge that the server was obviously new to the industry. He has a lot of try, so points for that. Now, for the carnage... While we waited for this young fella to come and take our order I checked Yelp to see what others had to say.... We got our entree's first, minus some of the ingredients listed on the menu. The corned beef and cabbage was ok. The Irish soda bread was really good, though! The Mac & Cheese would have been tasty if it had the green onions and if they would use actual cheese instead of a cheese sauce. It was really bland the way it was served. Eventually my husband got his equivalent to Van Dekamp baked beans, in a scalding hot bowl. And finally we got the charcuterie board. According to the menu it was supposed to have meats, Irish cheese, assorted fruits, and nuts. For $12, we got 8 pepperoni slices, 4 chunks of honey dew, 3 strawberries, 3 Genoa salami, 3 Soprano meat slices, and some small chunks of 3 different cheeses. It wasn't worth it. And I wanted the nuts! We had to ask for a second round of drinks. I had a Harp Black & Tan. It was pretty to look at and I'm sure it was what was to be expected as far as taste. I hope that the server we had gets better at what he's doing. His attitude was top notch. He had a smile. He told us that the normal cook was in the hospital. And he verbalized appreciation of our understanding. I used to be a waitress, when we were still called that. It amused me, but also made me want to help this lad, seeing that he could not multitask! The owner is very unprofessional. She yelled at a bartender in front of all the customers. She was clearly drunk. She discussed his personal issues including his child, his life, his pay, his car, everything. The WORST experience I've ever had in a setting like this. Everyone there was tense, it was awkward, and when I asked when the bartender got off she answered for him claiming that unless he cleaned then he wasn't getting his tips and couldn't leave until then. Yet she repeatedly told him to leave and was being rude. Then when my partner and I announced we were leaving, she said "okay good. Bye. Bye. Bye" and it was the most bizarre experience I've ever had. Seriously. I'm very disappointed. It's a cool pub but that was awful. Walking into the Harp I wasn't sure what to expect. This location has changed businesses so often in the past 5 years that I didnt even know the Harp was even there as I drove by daily. As you enter you have a bar section to your left with bar seating and high tops. I figured the reastraunt or casual dining would be on the right, which it was, but the seating options are pretty poor. They have a long bench along the window side and a few small metal tables with metal chairs. No booths or comfrotable seating. I chose the benching seat because it looked way better than the small metal chair. For apps we ordered the meat, cheese, fruit spread and for $12.00 I was very dissapointed in the amount of food we got. About 6 peices of two assorted meats, a little bit of grapes and apples, and about a 1/4 cup of assorted nuts. It also had a hummas and a bread. It was OK. nothing too exciting. I ordered the shepards pie and a Guiness beer for lunch. The Shepard's Pie was great and I'd recommend it. I've never had a shepard's pie so I'm not quite sure how it's supposed to be made/taste/expect ect, but I really enjoyed what I got. The beer was great, but Guiness is always awesome. Overall I enjoyed my meal, I didnt feel the price was worth what I got overall, but It was a business trip so no big deal. I would go back, but probably only on business trips. This is the second time we've been to The Harp - first time was pre-pandemic and the second last night (1/26/23). I'm sad to say that the pandemic has had a negative effect on the business. The first time we visited it was a lively place, crowded with adults and kids. Lots of laughter and great atmosphere. Plus good food and drink. Last night was the opposite - very few people, quiet and not very lively. But the food (shepherds pie and potato soup were excellent! Oh, and the service was top rate. I hope we just caught it on an off night because The Harp is a great place to go (we have been real shut ins since the covid) and will once again make it one of our favorites.
