The restaurant is placed in a beautiful location in the park. The server brought out waters for everyone and we placed our orders. The guacamole was amazing and the best hummus was unique and delicious! The ahi tuna poke bowl was amazing! packed full of flavor, it was refreshing yet filling. Very tasty! We chose this location because we had a concert at Toyota center and some of the pics of the food looked good. We decided to ignore the negative reviews about slow service but now wishing we didn't. In a nutshell the food was overpriced for the quality, the service was very, very slow and the drinks from the bar were poorly made. The restaurant itself looked nice but that was about the best thing it had going for it. Do yourself a favor and if you're going to a concert go to Pappasitos across the street instead. I was thrilled to make a last-minute reservation for a late lunch here in between conference panels at a nearby hotel. We were famished but agreed right away that the Sweet Potato & Kale Enchiladas and the Cauliflower Koshary stood out on the menu. Enchiladas are a known quantity, bur I had never heard of koshary before: apparently it is Egypt's national dish and consists of grains such as rice amd quinoa covered in vegetables and a spicy tomato sauce. The staff very kindly split both dishes so we could enjoy half of each. The portions were generous and the food SO good. Beware the chilis if your palate is tender (I could smell the heat and didn't even taste them, while my table tablemate burned her tongue!). It was not too busy on a weekday, we enjoyed the view, paying was quick, and the pric3s were fair. But with the price tag of $17, it would be nice to add a bit more quinoa. If you add white rice into it, please at least cook the rice properly. I received an email advertising drink specials for the CFP Champianchip. Being that I'm from out of town and was passing through Houston to get back home to my pregnant wife, I thought that this would be the best spot for some restaurant, bar and view. I made my way to the Grove early to stake out my spot for the BIG GAME. How dissapointed I was to find out that this establishment wouldn't be showing the game. Was it because they didn't have restaurant, bar or view? No, the CFP Champianchip was not being played on Sunday--but on Monday! I am now on a 5-hour drive hour home stuck in traffic on a Sunday night. If they hadn't sent me an email about the Champianchip, I wouldn't be stuck in this mess. Now my pregnant wife is threatening to leave me because I was out trying to watch the sports instead of caring for our unborn child. "Always with the sports. Grow up, Stephen. My husband and I went here for dinner, when we were staying at the Marriot Marquis during our anniversary. It is notably in walking distance, and very easy to get to from the MM. It's located right in the middle of Houston's Discovery Green (Which is a park in the middle of downtown). Walking in it had a nice trendy vibe. Someone could definitely wear a sweater and nice pants, khakis, chinos, or a dress of any kind (in case you were wondering). On the menu there were many GF (Gluten free), and V (Vegan) options which is great. My husband and I ordered the Vegan enchiladas and were NOT disappointed. This might've been my favorite thing. The enchilada sauce was definitely homemade and had an ancho-chile like flavor, dark, and robust. The vegan cheese was melted on top and straight up DELICIOUS. As my main course I got the pork chops, which came with a super rich and tasty butternut squash. It was cooked to perfect, and my knife went through the center almost like butter. My friend & I decided to check out The Grove because we wanted to have a nice dinner with a good outside view. Our waiter Zackary provided excellent service, he was very engaging & checked on us often. The food was pretty tasty & the decor was nice and simple. We were not aware that Houston Restaurant Weeks were extended, so we decided to try the 3-course deal. Everything from the Fresh Squeezed Lemonade, Lemon Drop Martini, Texas Street Corn & Local Heirloom Tomato w/ Peaches appetizers to the 12oz Blackened Drum on the half shell, 12oz Tomahawk Pork Chop, Fried Key Lime Pie (reminds me of apple pie) & The Butterfinger (the key lime taste better) dessert was very tasty. We did not see these food options on their main menu, so I'm not sure if they will be there once HRW ends. You may be able to request it. This is a gorgeous restaurant with an amazing location inside of Discovery Green in downtown. I parked on the street which was easy enough and very cheap, free after six and just a couple dollars if not. This place is definitely somewhere fancy enough for a first date but not edging into fine dining or anything too formal. Lovely interior and artful food. I didn't sit on the patio but I can imagine dining outside during the sunset would be amazing. The food and drinks however, left much to be desired and quite frankly felt a little overpriced. Drinks were about $14-$18 but were not tasty or memorable enough to warrant the price, I know the restaurant is beautiful but the drinks weren't worth more than $10-$15 in my opinion. The bread was delicious though, I will say that much. Very limited vegetarian options had me choosing this interesting cauliflower which was very bland and unfortunately ended up in the trash as it was borderline inedible after it was no longer fresh. Rich bleu cheese sauce made it silky and decadent. My boyfriend enjoyed the blue crab mac and cheese and, for dessert, the stout float, which was unique. He said it was delicious. I visited Sunday with my pops and I had the most delightful experience! This was my first, his second time visiting and I had no clue where he was taking me. We pull up and there were cars everywhere. Thankfully they had valet. Those guys were great! As we walk in and i see the greenery, modern decor and natural lighting, I think to myself "Now THIS is my cup of tea! How did I not know this place existed?!" I felt underdressed as I wasn't wearing a lick of makeup. And i had on mules. This place deserved more from me! Haha The decor is beautiful and the brunch buffet was amazing! Everything was fresh and full of flavor! The servers at the actual buffet were very informative which was great because I had tons of questions! Our actual server's name was Emmanuel and he showed us phenomenal customer service! He was extremely attentive and went the extra mile. He's such a pleasant man and has a noticeably sincere spirit. This was a solid "okay" experience. Our service was terrible. The staff was friendly but generally absent. I ate here with a group of about 8 and literally all we were doing was getting drinks. We were permitted to get one drink per hour based on the frequency of service to our table. For a restaurant that charges as much as they do, I do not expect to be leaving my seat to be ordering a refill. The guacamole we ordered was fine but tasted over-mashed, like HEB guacamole, and very warm. I gave it a shot and didn't think it was worth the calories. The chips tasted like they were fried with old oil but the green ranch salsa (ordered separately from the guacamole) was pretty good. There is no parking here. Very clean. Cute design. I've been itching to review the delicious food we've had over the last few days and a fav was @thegrovehouston My partner and I had been wanting to try this place for a while now and finally got our opportunity. Last night we met a couple of friends for their awesome happy hour which hosted some great eats! Check out some of the awesome things we got a chance to taste on what I'd like to call our "tour of the grove"! Avocado Toast [v] - with creamy labne, black lentils, fresh tomato, thinly sliced radishes, rooftop basil, za'atar, and aleppo pepper for an added kick. All of the flavors complimented one another perfectly, this toast was like a party in my mouth, bursting with flavors. Deviled Egg - featuring smoked trout, pickled corn & chiles, rooftop dill, and a pickle juice vinaigrette. This dish wasn't a crowd fav but hosted a mix of interesting flavors that were worth trying for sure. Queso Fundido [v] - oaxaca cheese, kale, juicy mushrooms, potatoes, salsa verde, and served with flour tortillas. This dish was both aesthetically pleasing and packed full of delicious flavors that seemed to present something new with each bite! Shrimp Corn Dogs - two mouthwatering battered jumbo shrimp, mustard, spicy mayonnaise, and pickled banana peppers...listen these little babies were to die for but you only get two so make it worth your wild and go during happy our and load up! Chips & Salsas [v] - not much to say about this dish, but definitely not your regular salsa and chips. It comes with both a red and green sauce which both were delicious, but the green sauce took the cake! Creamy with subtle hints of cilantro and garlic it was surely a crowd pleaser! Bell Pepper Hummus [v] - topped with toasted almonds, with pickled bell pepper, mint, aleppo, and warm flatbreads. I didn't personally try this one but my friends enjoyed it! Quesadilla [v] - cute mini quesadillas with tender flavorful rotisserie chicken, oaxaca, wild mushrooms, salsa, guacamole, and crema...little bites of perfection. Local Catch Fritters - remoulade, tabasco honey, pea shoots, and lemon. These little bites were another fav. They boasted a light and crispy texture with a creamy center and tons of flavor! Smoked Redfish Dip - house crackers, toast, herbs, lemon, hot sauce...Guys this dip was like tuna on steroids and it was freakin delicious and rich in smokey flavors! Valentina Chicken Wings - valentina hot sauce, pepitas, popcorn, serrano, cilantro, salsa blanca...These petite wings had the perfect blend of spices and the popcorn was a cute added treat! Located in the heart of Downtown Houston near Discovery Green, the Grove was full of life. I've been to The Grove a good handful of times, but I just so happened to visit two times this past weekend: once for a nice dinner date with a friend, and the second, birthday drinks with a group of 40 or so. I'll break down my review according to my most memorable visits. It was February 2008 when my friend Nik and I did "date night." Basically, it's an excuse to get dressed up, have dinner and drinks and talk about failed relationships and our other friends (I'm kidding about that last part, kinda). It was a Saturday night and just two months into the opening of The Grove, we were still able to get a table by the bar with no reservations. I opted out of a large meal and went straight for the ceviche and duck meatballs (which, as of date, are not on the dinner menu), along with a few lychee martinis. Nik inhaled his steak, moaning the entire evening--out of enjoyment, that is. I really don't want to Yelp this past week's dinner, not because it wasn't memorable, but because I was on a date ... and who Yelps their dates? Oh, wait, me. Jokes aside, all I'll say is that our server John was soft spoken yet very attentive; go for the first syrah on the menu, it was the most fragrant and palate pleasing wine I've had in a while; and the chocolate cake was worth every calorie and then some. The cocktails are impressive: try the Champagne Mango Cosmo or the Ginger Margarita (it has a spicy bite to it that'll clear your sinuses). But what really impressed me this weekend was a lovely cocktail waitress named Susan. It was a group of no less than 40 people that infiltrated the downstairs bar (it was a bit too chilly at The Tree House), and this young gal was able to take drink orders and serve them up like no other. Before I left, I approached her to let her know she was doing an amazing job; she busted her tail, and I didn't want that to go unnoticed. And it didn't. Everyone was pleased. If the weather permits, make it upstairs to The Tree House. There's a serene view of the next door Discovery Green's along with a view of the skyline. Plenty of seating, a few wicker couches and a bar make it a great spot to kick back with friends. The unfortunate side of the bar is that I've yet to see any cocktail waitresses each time I've been there; hopefully when things pick up in the spring, they'll have that service available. Also of note, if you're a tequila drinker, they have an extensive menu with tequila flights. And on weekends--and I think Thursdays, too--they have a DJ upstairs spinning house beats. read more

Had heard so much about The Grove (good and bad) that I was curious enough to try it. My date and I met up at my place and drove the few miles it takes to get downtown. When we made it there, the valet attendants were very nice and immediately opened our doors for us and welcomed us to The grove. Valet parking is $8, plus tip. We walked in and as the hostess was occupied a gentleman (maybe the manager?) searched for our reservation and walked us to our table. I was not impressed with the decor as I thought it was rather simple. I did like the open feel and that the huge glass windows let great lighting in. It does have some kind of appeal to it. Our waitress was a little questionable, she kept repeating how everything was "retarded" today. I laughed at a few of her "retarded" comments, but was not impressed with her service. As we had heard that the portions were small, we ordered a salad-toast-soup combination each as an appetizer. My date requested the tomatoes removed from the salad, but Teresa (our waitress) suggested the Caesar salad instead. Somehow she screwed up the order and my date ended up with only the salad and no soup or toast, she corrected the order later. The house salad I had was OK, so was the toast. The soup however was very very good. I can't recall what it was called, but the taste was superb. I believe the waitress did say that all the ingredients used at The Grove are organic and purchased locally, I guess that may have been a factor to my soup being so delicious. We then ordered our Entrees. I ordered the fish and my companion ordered oysters. My fish was wrapped in some kind of paper, which really didn't help it's presentation or taste. The fish was OK, but it was missing something. I felt it was too plain. The Oyster dish was simply OK. I was not impressed with the food, the service nor the decor at The Grove. I think it's a great restaurant to go to on a date as discovery green romanticizes the experience. I however, would never go there for the food alone, I don't think it is worth it. read more

I like The Grove and it definitely has its place in my mix of restaurants I dine at, it just has to be the right occasion with the right people. First, when The Grove is at more than half capacity, the place is LOUD. So, don't bring anyone who can't handle the noise. The scenery is lovely all year round. We went in January on a chilly day and the trees through the walls of glass windows were gorgeous! I love that backdrop and makes for a beautiful lunch. The interior is really pretty and very open with high ceilings. Our service was good, but sometimes our server couldn't hear us because of the noise. There's a short list of places in Houston where I think the servers and other restaurant staff should get hazard pay because of the noise level, and The Grove is on that list. We had made a reservation and were seated immediately. The table was in the corner, but next to the windows which was fine. As our large group arrived, each person paid $8 for valet, which seems steep to me. I'd expect the valet to be free or cheaper than this. Brunch Appetizers: We ordered several appetizers for the table to share. The french toast balls were the best. They were reminiscent of more dense beignets and comes with powered sugar and syrup. The tempura battered shrimp and veggies were only just 'ok'. There were large slices of lemon battered and fried and hiding amidst the other items. I don't enjoy biting into a full slice of fried lemon. Does anyone? The quail skewers were also just ok with some super spicy peppers in between tiny pieces of quail. Brunch entrees: The french toast was good but nothing amazing. The side of bacon was large and was shared between two people. The side of roasted potatoes were good, but most definitely not vegetarian. I asked about them and the server told me they were roasted at the bottom of the chicken rotisserie area and the chicken drippings drop onto the potatoes. I'm surprised this info isn't on the menu. Overall the food is a 3 star experience with the view and decor above that. I'd definitely come back, but not with anyone elderly. We had two old men at our table (my father and his friend) who both took out their hearing aides because of the volume level in the restaurant. Be aware of the noise. read more

Not bad Came here with a group of 10. Everybody enjoyed their dishes. I ordered Petit beef tender plate. Med rare. With sweet potato. A few pieces of the meat were rare rare. Even with that the steak was well seasoned and tasty. The sweet potatoes were well cooked. Although it's a bit pricey the food was good. Everybody finished all their food except for my rare rare few pieces of steak. read more
