For my milestone birthday, my husband offered to take me anywhere I wanted. I rarely eat red meat and decided to search for a fine dining spot that offered a delicious hamburger. Haha. I know. "Fine dining" and burgers? But that's what I wanted. I searched the web and found the Chefs Table in Vintage Park, and it wasn't too far from us here in The Woodlands, so we decided to make reservations and head there. From the moment we entered, we were treated like special guests. The ambiance is rich, but not overdone or stuffy. Simply classic and relaxing. Our booth felt private and unhindered by conversations of nearby diners or wait staff bustling past. Our cocktails were perfect. The calimari we ordered as an appetizer was probably the most tender and delicious either of us have ever had. And when our burgers arrived, I was so happy. It was exactly what I had set my mind on when selecting my birthday dinner experience. The blend of brisket and chuck was absolutely delicious, set atop a perfectly buttered toasted bun, with some crispy onion straws on top. And the fries... oh my! I rarely if ever eat fried food - so clearly this was my big day to completely go off my standard fare, but those fries had the perfect crunch and flavor. Apparently, when my husband made our resv, he told them it was my birthday, so our server brought out a delightful complimentary spiced cake dessert after we were finished eating - for us to share. This is the one place that truly lives up to the reviews!! We went here as a date night. First things first, they actually paid attention to the reservation and put us in a great spot. I feel like whenever I ask for certain things on the reservation they are never addressed so it was a great start to finally be recognized! This had been a favorite restaurant for my husband and I since dinning from the chef when he was at Peli peli in the Galleria. We have spent many special occasions dinning with our favorite meals prepared by the chef. Today after a long day at work, we wanted to celebrate finding out this afternoon about the pregnancy of our 2nd child and made reservations. A minute into sitting down with my husband and toddler, a host/manager came up to us saying to please take our child out if he gets too disruptive because there had already been issues this evening with other children. We hadnt even been there long enough for him to even make a sound, seemed odd but we agreed. Because of the greeting as we sat down I decided to play his favorite show on my phone to a low setting to keep him distracted so he wouldnt be "disruptive". The music and conversations in the restaurant were louder than my phone ( for context it was 2 levels above silent) but another host/ manager approached and said we needed to lower the sound and that "the owner of the restaurant is not happy that there are so many children this afternoon during date night that he can see through the cameras" to which my husband asked "does he not like children in the restaurant ?" to which she responded "actually no, this is an adult friendly atmosphere for dates." Worst experience at this or any restaurant I've ever been to; staff ruined our celebratory dinner. Didnt even stay for dessert. The waitress was great, she had nothing to do with it so we still tipped her well. Never coming back to celebrate any more occasions after the treatment we had today at dinner. If you have children, unless you want to be scolded just for bringing a child to dinner, don't choose this restaurant. Additionally, to clearly implement a "no children" policy, you should explicitly state "adults only" or "no patrons under 18" on your website, reservation platforms, and social media. None of this is available and parents would gladly pay for a babysitter if the chefs table made this clear. read more

The Chef's Table is a good local spot with South African flavor. Service was great and the food was very good. I tried the ostrich fillet, which was different for me. I probably would not order it again, but it was worth trying at least once. Dinner for four was about $800, so definitely not inexpensive. Octopus was prepared perfectly - peri peri calamari was great (I'm a sucker for calamari) - Durban chicken was a sizable portion for dinner and a coconut flavor punch - chicken pendadura was ok, the glaze made it taste like American Chinese food (wasn't the biggest fan) - butternut squash ravioli - I didn't get to try but apparently was really good! - sticky toffee pudding - still sweet but pretty tasty. Unbelievably wonderful Thanksgiving box. Putting aside my mother's cooking, this is the best turkey I've ever had. It must have been brined for days because it was incredibly tender and juicy, and the very light smoke resulted in a delicious bite. Chef's stuffing was yummy, the green bean casserole with mushrooms was incredible, and I could just go on and on. It was sitting in the refrigerator all ready to be prepared and then I remembered that Chef had said the turkey was even good cold. So when nobody was looking, I pulled the tray out to sneak a bite and was stunned by the juiciness and tenderness and fabulous flavor! Next year we are definitely going to order the Thanksgiving box in advance of the holiday. We went again today and discovered a fabulous new dish of butternut squash ravioli in a lemon sauce with Parmesan. WOW, WOW, WOW! I stole a bite off my niece's plate and couldn't believe how delicious it was. My friends Adrienne and Holly both ordered the beef Wellington, and I had the crab cake eggs Benedict with truffle tater tots - everything was absolutely phenomenal, as always. We also had pomegranate mimosas, and let me tell you... they did not disappoint. I was feeling a little loopy in the best way! I honestly didn't think I'd like the food at first, but wow -- the entire experience completely surprised me! The service was absolutely amazing from start to finish. I went during lunch (highly recommend it because it's much cheaper than dinner), and everything we ordered was fantastic. I had the lamb chops with potatoes -- absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. The menu has a South American/South African flair, and every dish my coworkers ordered was also really good. I'm a very picky eater, so that says a lot! The atmosphere was warm and inviting -- a great spot for lunch with friends or even a perfect date night. They also serve refreshing watermelon-infused water, which I couldn't get enough of. The only small thing I'd love is if they started the meal with some bread or something similar, but that's just my personal preference. Came to celebrate my birthday with my family on a Tuesday night. Service was great. Everyone was attentive and very accommodating. Thank you to the hostess at the time for being patient with my family as we asked for millions of pics. Food- we started off with the peri peri calamari, sautéed calamari, & stuffed shrimp. Entrees included the Jerk Snapper, hot honey bacon chutney salmon, shrimp scampi, and the 16oz ribeye. Sides included the Brussels sprouts and the lobster Mac & cheese. No complaints from the family. Late Post: First time dining at this restaurant and we had dinner here I believed during HRW week. The waitress that served us was excellent. You can really tell she enjoyed her job and like talking to customers as she had informative recommendations from the menu. We were on a double date so we ordered a variety of foods to share and everything we tried was seasoned well, extremely fresh and uniquely flavored. They also have a nice wine room with various selections to satisfy any connoisseur. I would definitely go back to this place to try more items on menu. Went here for my 1 year anniversary dinner. THE ABSOLUTE MOST AMAZING FOOD I'VE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! Everything was so flavorful and cooked to perfection. Service was amazing above and beyond. The spin on your dip was 10/10! Not really a normal tasting spinach dip but still very good. For our entree I got the ostrich filet and my wife got the beef Wellington. The filet was good however I think the sauce was doing it a disservice, I gave it a 6.5-7/10. The beef Wellington was also pretty good at a 7.5/10. Dessert was also really good. Sticky toffee pudding and cheesecake with the pudding being the STAR of the show. All in all it was really good and a nice change up from your normal steak houses or nice dinner spots. read more

Their house made hot sauce was chef's kiss. Their pork belly melted in my mouth. The bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp was amazing on its own but with the house made hot sauce whew... AMAZING!!! I had the lamb for my entrée and it literally fell off the bone. The 5 cheese mashed potatoes were so creamy and smooth. My honey had the ostrich fillet with roasted brussel sprouts. We have had mixed success with this restaurant, however we decided to try it a third time and we are glad we did. It has improved both with the menu and service dramatically. The service is a 10/10. I mean stellar. Ambiance, with the exception of a cackling drunk woman (hardly the restaurant's responsibility) was a 10/10. The food was also larger portions than expected and the taste was 9/10. I had a mixed plate and they put an analog to a marinara as a sauce on the cheesy mashed potatoes. That was a miss, but hey 1 miss all evening is a nothing burger. The wine selection was good and priced better than the food. The food was expensive, but with the portion sized you could, as a couple split one or two appetizers and a main course, and I say this as someone who eats a reasonable amount of food. Dessert was also a large portion so split that or be ready to take a portion home. We spent $254 with tip. Two entrees, one appetizer, one side, one bottle of wine and two desserts. I tipped at 20% so the actual bill prior to tip was slightly above $200. The pricing doubles to keep the riff raff out, which is welcome. Additionally the chef frequently made his rounds speaking to various tables. If you are looking to take your wife out to a nice dinner this place is winner, hands down. P. S. We were in Houston to visit our kids and grandkids (including our latest that was just born). On January 9th, we celebrated our 49th anniversary at Chef's Table and had a wonderful experience! We started out with drinks and the Peri Peri Calamari. We have enjoyed all sorts of calamari over the years but we have to rate the Peri Peri at the top of our list. The calamari was so tender and tasty. We always put salt on our calamari but the Peri Peri, along with the two sauces, didn't need any enhancement. For our entrees my wife had the Beef Wellington & I had the Karoo Lamb Porter (from the Out of Africa section of the menu). I started out looking at the Wellington myself but so glad I picked the Karoo Lamb. Both dishes were outstanding but the lamb was amazing and we were glad I selected the dish (yes, my wife got a couple of tastes, begrudgingly). The presentation of the dish was also great and very appealing. Lastly, we did get 1 side, the Lobster Mac & Cheese. Great flavor and good amount of lobster! For desert it was the Sticky Toffee Pudding. This was mandated by my wife and so glad I listened. We would have licked the bowl clean if no-one was looking. Service was also top notch. We were checked on by various team members to ensure we were happy with everything. Early on, we were greeted by Chef Paul and it was a joy to meet him and learn a bit about him and his culinary culture. Our server, Petra, was truly a great companion throughout the meal. She was really helpful in our selections of the calamari as well as the lamb. Timing for everything was spot on. All the different textures made it so fun to eat Entree - Chilean sea bass (10/10) : I didn't know fish could be this buttery until now.
