On our recent winter getaway trip to Phoenix we made a reservation for six to celebrate the big 7-0 for one member of our party. Shortly before the appointed time,as we were driving to the restaurant, we got a call letting us know that our table would be ready in 15 minutes -- smart -- if we're on the way, the table is ready, if not, it can be released for other customers. Since we responded to the call and were on the way, we were promptly seated on arrival -- a sign of impeccable front of the house management. But we came for the food and a celebration. I started with a cocktail, something they called, "Beginner's Luck," a variation on a classic Old Fashioned. The blend of bourbon, amaro, cherry liqueur and bitters was excellent. I've actually started making the same cocktail at my home bar. Tasty! I decided to go with coffee rubbed short ribs with parsnip purée, broccolini and a cherry BBQ sauce served on the side. The meat was well braised -- it reminded me of my mom's pot roast the way the ribs were fall apart, tender and moist. The coffee rub was apparent, but not overwhelming. The purée and broccolini were decent but not spectacular. Thankfully the BBQ sauce was served on the side--it brought nothing to the plate, was overly sweet, and lacking the essence of a good, tangy, southwestern BBQ. Had it been served on top of the beef the dish would have been inedible, in particular because it just didn't jive with the parsnips. I don't remember what everyone else in our group ordered. But I can report that everyone was essentially satisfied with our dining experience at the Gladly. Even though no one raved about their food or drinks, the meal was fine, we had a great evening together, and at some level -- that's what going out with friends to celebrate is all about. Last night I met my buddy after a work event at The Gladly. I have been here once before with my wife, and really enjoyed the rather extensive whiskey selection. I had a great four roses Manhattan straight up, but then I decided to stick around and we hung out at the bar and grabbed dinner. I had their salmon which was excellent and cooked to perfection. Stephanie and Andy at the bar were great hosts and made it a fun experience . I was searching for some new options for my bourbon palette and asked for things that would possibly compete with what I think is among the best in taste - Garrison Brothers Balmorhea. It was suggested that I try this Stagg Jr. and it was wonderful. Overall, we had a great night, hanging out, enjoying the food, the ambience, and certainly the Bourbon! This is a nice little spot in Camelback. Stopped in with the girls on a Saturday night and of course we had a reservation. My first drink of choice. Was that one drink which I did not enjoy very tart. I did enjoy the Thai margarita drink this had a nice flavor and the tajin on the rim Made it even better. I was torn between the short rib and the salmon and ended up going with the Norwegian salmon, the mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts that came with the salmon were tasty, but the salmon itself could've used a little bit more seasoning. my friend got the sweet mashed potatoes and I actually really enjoyed those. For our appetizer, we decided on the spinach dip. I did not enjoy it as it was too spicy for me. I like my spinach dip, creamy and rich. Who knows I may give this place another another shot!! How could I forget the banana bread pudding!? It was the damn best thing there!! not too sweet just the right among of banana flavor and the ice cream topped it off. One of my best friends (who happens to be the CHRO of Phoenix Children's Hospital) invited me to dinner at the Gladly. The food was delicious, and because I was going to be back in Phoenix the following week, I took my husband to lunch here. We split the baby iceberg wedge and each had a burger. I don't know what they put in their salad, but it was probably the BEST salad I've ever had. The burgers were excellent, but I could eat this salad all day long. We returned a month later; it was the Gladly for dinner. Again, that baby iceberg wedge. It was as good as I remembered. We had the filet and halibut. Yum. The service is excellent at this restaurant. When you come here, and I know you will, order that wedge salad. Double yum. The Gladly is one of my favorite restaurants to go to. The aesthetic of the restaurant is very pleasing, very chill. The service was great and the food is always delicious. My most recent visit, I had to keep it light so I ordered the baby iceberg wedge. Every ingredient on the salad tasted so fresh and I truly appreciate that. That's something that doesn't occur very often at restaurants. I will be back to try the ribeye. I heard great things about that entree. read more

They offer a mostly all day menu and the raw seafood bar opens at 3pm. Short story - All the food and service was VERY GOOD...Undecided if this is 4 or 5 stars. Longer story- We started with the Little Miss BBQ smoked sausage, white cheddar, and pretzel. Sausage and cheese was very good and a bigger portion than we were expecting.....The pretzel was just a pretzel roll...But it was ok. The chicken chimichurri really was very good and better than we expected it to be. It was developed with good flavors and was moist. The potatoes were also very flavorful and a little spicy. The original chopped salad is really great. They also add table side service to this one and dress and toss it table side. First time at The Gladly. We have dined at it's sister location, Citizen Public House, several times. We arrived at 5:50 for a 6:15 reservation and were seated right away. Our server, Liz, offered us drinks and apps. We barely beat the happy hour, so drinks and apps were discounted. From that we got wine and the 'Super Yummy Nuts'. It was busy, so in a few, my wife ordered a glass of wine, nuts plus the Scallops. I ordered the Chopped Salad and the Poke. Our nuts and drinks arrived in short order. The nuts were advertised as smoked and spiced. I would've called them smoked and candied. Still yummy tho. After about 15 mins, Liz returned with our dinners. I've had the chopped salad about 25 times, but it was just as outstanding as the first time. The poke bowl is as also very good, with a mix of tuna, salmon, avocado, pickled onions, thinly sliced jalapeños, cucumbers, field greens and a spicy aioli. My wife enjoyed her scallops, which came with grits and a bacon gastric. In all it came to $106.83 plus tip. An outstanding meal in a loud but welcoming atmosphere. read more

Just leaving the restaurant and needed to write a review for not just how good the food was but for our waitress Rachel! To me, the service at a restaurant could make or break my experience. Rachel went above and beyond! Very attentive, friendly and just on it! The food here was delicious and our water cups were constantly refilled. I would say the oysters were a must! Such a great spot for dinner or lunch. I've mainly come for dinner and every time has been a hit. I love the braised short rib, house special ribeye, bread pudding, and chimichurri chicken! I'm a due hard carnivore and all those dishes really hit the spot. If you choose this spot, you're making the right choice. It's got a light airy vibe since the entire restaurant is floor to ceiling windows. The restaurant is split level so it's got a great dynamic feel to it. The food is excellent. Best of all, it's locally owned with only two locations so you get a unique upscale experience compared to places like capital grille, Hillstone, or any other brand names in the upscale restaurant business. I would recommend this as a great spot for lunch with coworkers or for a formal business meeting. I would also recommend this spot if you're trying to impress a date. The vibes here are very upscale, chic, and comfortable. If you get the chance, come through for restaurant week, they do an excellent 3 course menu during that time. I love it! read more

Came to the Gladly for the first night of restaurant week. Wasn't sure what to expect but I'd heard good things and this is where my friends decided we go. We went on a double date together and arrived around 7:30pm. You had to make a reservation, although it didn't look overly crowded for a Friday night. We were sat, and greeted with menu's. The restaurant week menu we'd seen online and it looked great. There were two prices options (one for $45, one for $55) and it came with an appetizer, the main entree, and dessert. Not bad at all! Me and my beau tried two different items for each, he selected the soup for appetizer, and me the burrata. For entrees we selected the pan roasted halibut and this wasn't on the menu online, but they had a steak option. I went for that one! And for dessert, he had the chocolate butterscotch cake and I had the whiskey bread pudding. Of all of the items, my meal altogether was better overall! Not just because I selected them of course () but they were just more tasty. The burrata was to die for.... The cheese was perfection with the salad and it had a semi crispy bread served with it, and the tomato and mixture had the perfect saltiness and just, the combination of it all was... heaven in my mouth! The soup was good but it wasn't at all to die for, or even close to as tasty as my burrata. The steak... ooh. I ordered it medium rare and that's how it came out and it had a wonderful crust to the outside. It was seasoned perfectly and it came over a mound of super flavorful and creamy, soft, mashed potatoes, topped with some asparagus spears, the steak, and a tasty, very savory gravy. The combination of the three were simply wow. The halibut was good, a tad overcooked on the outside, but it must have been the bacon lardon but there was a very tasty flavor that enhanced the fish so much. The sweet corn grits were good but again, not something I'd rave about or even remember if I wasn't actively trying to remember for this review. The desserts... oh, goodness... the desserts. So we were torn on this one because my babe loved his chocolate cake. To me, it was more on the bland side, didn't have any sauce atop, and it certainly had a chocolate taste but I felt it was dry. I enjoy myself the moistest cakes, personally, so it didn't fit the bill but he enjoyed it. My whisky bread pudding however... I'd say 7 out of 10. The flavors were wonderful, you could definitely taste a hint of whisky and it was creamy in the mouth. Overall, the service was ok. Our server was soft spoken and I hoped for more menu guidance, recommendations, and confidence and zeal about the dining experience as a whole so it wasn't spectacular, but it wasn't bad. I'd go somewhere else first before I dropped the $ for the Gladly and the food and experience overall. First time eating here. I came with another couple to celebrate a birthday. When I first walked in I was pleasantly surprised to see the Whiskey Room. As I rounded the corner I saw a nicely decorated, comfortable establishment. It's not a huge place but it's also not so small that you're sitting so close to other patrons. I went during Happy Hour so the burger was only $12 +1 for cheese and +2 for bacon, no biggie. When I got the burger I was pleased with how it looked visually, as they say, you eat with your eyes. The taste of the burger was good. It was juicy and they cooked it medium (side note: they don't ask how you want it so it you want it any other way you should let them know). The fries were crispy on the outside and hot and pillowy on the inside. I had the Whiskey Bread Pudding for dessert, it wasn't the best I've had however, it wasn't disappointing. As for the service, they kept my water cup filled, it never got below 1/2 full and the waitress was very attentive and nice. I'd definitely go back and try other dishes on the menu read more

If Gladly is striving for mediocrity, they nailed it. It has all the visual trappings of a top notch restaurant: high ceilings, lots of windows, cool bar with lots of top shelf bottles displayed, clean lines, yada yada. But, the slick exterior cannot make up for the uninspired food and gimmicky cocktails that fall short in expectations. Our waitress was very sharp...without her help, this review would have lost a star. With her endorsement we tried a few of the special cocktails--some of us liked them, but I thought The Outlaw with mezcal and watermelon was a bit too sweet. We had the crab cakes and the burrata as appetizers. I've never met a crab cake I didn't like, until I came to The Gladly. Ours were fishy smelling and soggy. I felt bad about wasting crab, but we left them mostly untouched. The burrata was pretty good--nothing to write about. The entrees were rough. We ordered the rib-eye, which as smothered in some kind of sauce and just seemed like it was "Choice" rather than Prime. The coffee rubbed short ribs are supposed to be their signature dish, but they were dry and stringy. The shining star of the meal was the Bernie Mac - a good interpretation of Mac 'n cheese with the unusual addition of chopped fresh tomatoes and topped with traditional crunchy toasted bread crumbs. For dessert, we had the strangest bread pudding ever. It was basically a slice of French toast served with ice cream. It was dry--a fitting end to a unsatisfactory meal. We ate here on a Tuesday night at about 7 p.m. After having a very difficult time finding parking, three of us met the fourth member of our group (he came directly from work) at our table. Luckily, we were able to eat on the patio, which is lovely. I ordered the Roasted Mushrooms & Acorn Squash, so excited as I was really craving mushrooms! However, there was literally ONE small mushroom in the entire dish. Tons and tons of delicious roasted veggies including a plethora of Brussel sprouts, broccoli, asparagus and acorn squash. If the mushrooms were all chopped up, then i couldn't taste them and they blended in with the rice! It's possibly that this is seasonal? Were they out of mushrooms? If so, I wished the waitress would have mentioned the lack of mushrooms when I ordered. I cleared ordered the "mushroom dish." Why wasn't I informed then? No idea. The roasted veggies are really delicious but... had I been told, I would have ordered something else. The rest of our dinner was excellent. read more

I believe the waitress said it was made with pureed scallops. The filet was cooked to perfection...melted in my mouth. It's accompaniments added to the deliciousness. The salmon, fried capers, brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, and buerre blanc were mouthwatering good. Dessert was tastey. It was my first time trying bread pudding and I would have liked to have tasted a little more flavor and the temperature to be warmer. The brownie was different, but not bad. Came here for our three year wedding anniversary and was super glad my husband found this place. The atmosphere and staff were super inviting. We were greeted with a "Happy Anniversary" sign on our table , which was a very sweet gesture from the restaurant. The drinks were delicious and we couldn't get enough of the Thai Margarita. It was one of the best Margarita's we've tasted in a while. It was super refreshing and kept us wanting more. The Chopped Salad was EVERYTHING!! The complex flavors married so well together. The Gladly is nestled in the heart of the Biltmore. A classic venue for working professionals to escape and enjoy a meal and cocktails. The venue is a staple favorite as they are very consistent when it comes to the service they provide. I've been here several times and can say that what I get is always the same top notch experience. From the servers, to the host and including the bartender the service is pristine. You can never go wrong with their original salad. Such an interesting mix of ingredients as the dish is served cold, presented and mixed table side. You can never go wrong ordering this. I'm usually skeptical of ordering salmon as many places rarely cook it so it's not dry. I've had the salmon enough times to assure you I savored each bite. I've also had the steak which is also a vested dish that will satisfy your taste buds. The cocktails are always strong and if you're unsure of which drink to order an easy conversation with the bartender will remedy that. read more

I'm so glad we went to The Gladly! We enjoyed our experience. I had called in advance for a reservation the day of, Aria answered and was warm and inviting and said that although the dining area is booked we were more than welcome to come and sit at the full service bar. When we came in that warm and inviting atmosphere continued from hostess to bartender. Lucas took care of us and was great! We had a Piña Colada, and a Painkiller. Later, we had the Coffee Rubbed Short Ribs with a side of Spicy Potato Casserole. Everything was delicious! Great food and staff. Solid place, I will definitely come back. Came for happy hour and what a great decision it was. The staff was friendly and although we came at a time when it was picking up, we didn't feel like an after thought. We got few happy hour cocktails which were all pretty good. The hillbilly egg rolls were pretty good but decadent and dense, the Brussel sprouts with sweet corn grits and the pecorino Romano was delicious and full of flavor but the highlight was the Commander burger which was damn good. The patty was thin but full of flavor and the toppings rounded the burger out well, the special sauce seemed like a homemade thousand island but better. Note: it comes with raw onions so I'm sure if you ask for grilled they can accommodate (we didn't want to wreak of onions so we removed them). I was in Phoenix for a work conference and the last night of the conference brought us to the Gladly. The space was really pretty and we got the upper floor for larger parties. Our menu was pre fix so we had a bite of crab cake and burrata for an app. Next was the house chopped salad which was incredible and probably the highlight of the meal. It hit all the notes of crunchy, sweet, tart and smokey and I don't think I've ever had anything like it. Next was my main which was the chimichurri chicken. The chicken was beautifully cooked, the potatoes were just slightly under my preference and had a bit of grease from the red chili sauce. Overall tasty and all washed down with the amazing "inner child" cocktail. That too was super unique and very, very good. Service was very fast and friendly and if I lived in Phoenix would definitely be going back regularly so will save it for the next trip out instead! read more

So, I LOVE their salad, the one they copied from Cowboy Chow. Cause if I didn't, I would never put up with their ARROGANT service. I moved but the Cowboy Chow salad is always on my list when in town. I bring ice chest & ice packs & load extras up for the trip back. So the arrogant part. Last time we were here is was 115-118. I walked in with my eater container so the ice would stay cold. Without explanation, the "babe" at the door was trying to wrestle it from my hand. Why? Apparently, they are such a special place, you can't walk in with a nasty old $40 water container. We left. Today, I'm giving them another shot. I drove down from the Westin at Kierland. 30 minute drive? An hour round trip?? They open at 4. I called at 3:45 & the "babe" 'splained to me I had to call back at 4. She couldn't be lowered to take my order. Oh... It's now 4:02. Absolutely loved this place. Ambiance was great while enjoying their beautiful outdoor patio which is also dog friendly. Our waiter, David, I believe that was his name was wonderful and very attentive. If you like your cocktails on the sweeter side, I highly recommend "That One Drink". Similar to a lemon drop, it was delicious. For my main entree, I ordered the jumbo shrimp from their raw bar menu. I was not sure if 4 shrimp would be sufficient but they were huge and the horseradish was tasty! I also enjoyed the fields green salad which was the perfect portion size to have with the shrimp. The entrees weren't anything more than ordinary and nothing about them wowed us. I'm typically a sucker for a food tenderloin steak salad and was saddened by the quality of the one I got. I did request for the steak to be cooked well done and it was closer to medium. Given the intimate setting of the place, I'm glad the waitress gave us space to enjoy while still making sure if there was anything more we needed. We chose this spot for our anniversary dinner this year. We love trying new places and to be honest, when scouring Instagram those scallops caught my eye and I couldn't stop thinking about them. We actually caught happy hour and enjoyed a cocktail each (I had the espresso martini...YUM) and the mozzarella fondue. Delicious! My husband also had to try the 'ice ball' experience which was fun. He loves a good Old Fashioned so we was happy. Our entrees were brought out promptly and I was right about the scallops. Wow were they good!!!!! Wonderful texture components. My husband had the filet (it really shocked me that he ordered this) and while he definitely enjoyed it, we both felt that at $60 it was overpriced. We were too full for dessert but were sent home with a box of cookies for our anniversary. Also the ambiance is a little casual. Which might explain why we felt the filet was overpriced.
