Glad to be able to write about an outstanding and new local place for my 700th Yelp review. If the current soft opening is any indication of what is going to happen here, then you are going to be very happy. Keep in mind that there is no table service as you order at the counter and the food is then brought to you. Unfortunately that means no complimentary refills of their delicious coffee. I had a Smoky Tom omelet which was very well constructed especially with the crispy shallots on the outside. My only issue is that the gouda cheese did not have a smoky taste. My wife had a mushroom and caramelized onion sandwich on a very fresh roll and also enjoyed it. Everyone working there is helpful and anxious to please and I hope that carries over after the grand opening. I have already been to this place 3 times, and each time has been a pleasant experience. The owners took the time to chat with me a little bit during the first visit. You can automatically tell they're extremely proud of the work they put into making this cafe. During my second visit, one of the owners immediately recognized me, which extremely impressed me. I appreciate their effort to get to know their customers. As for the coffee and food, their nitro cold brew is so milky without the milk (if that makes sense). I ordered the Quinoa Bowl (Quinoa, avocado, eggs done any style, peppers, potato hash, and cheddar cheese) one time, and it was refreshing and filling. The owner came up to me asking me if I was alright with well done eggs, but when I said that I like them over easy, he was quick to tell the chef to do it over. Kind of disappointed Visited many times and typically very happy with my food. I ordered thru Uber eats and the food was cold The Italian stallion was not good. There was so much rosemary in the bread it hurt my mouth. The home fires were good as always. But the sandwich didn't work well with all the ingredients. Sometimes less is more. Food was great, service by the wait staff was excellent. I'm giving this place 2 stars because the host and manager didn't want to comfortably seat our party of 9. They squeezed us all at 2 tiny tables. When I politely asked to get an extra table I was told the manager would say no. The manager first said no as well. Their argument for was that we put in a table for 8, but we had 9. Even with 8, we would not have fit. They had plenty of tables outside (it's November) that they could have used. If it had not been for needing to comfortably seat my nephew that is in a wheelchair they wouldn't have budged. Then they told us to only stay for an hour because other people were waiting. Went here again today for first time in a while. I'm impressed with how they have adapted to current times (COVID). I usually don't write updates, but the food was so good, I had to make it know. I had the Tex Mex breakfast wrap and it may be the best breakfast wrap that I have ever had! My wife had the chicken salad sandwich, which she enjoyed. We shared a mocha iced coffee, which again was one of the best iced coffees that I have had in the Edison area. If you are looking for the best fluffy buttermilk style gluten free pancakes, this is the place to be. They are dense and I couldn't finish my portion. This place is also very knowledgeable with gluten free options. They can make most sandwiches/omelettes as well as pancakes. They use a dedicated toaster for the bread and have a separate prep area. They explained that they don't have a dedicated fryer. Their fries are gf but they can't guarantee no cross contamination. We also got Italian chicken sausage which was delicious with fennel. And the home fries are very tasty with a nice seasoning. It's a cute place that is kid friendly with great staff. We were there when it opened and it got packed quickly within 20 minutes. They have outdoor seating and there's plenty of parking. They have fresh food with a nice menu that everyone can enjoy! The bathroom was spotless when we went which is always an added bonus. There is a reason this place gets high ratings. The place is cute, the staff gives excellent service and most importantly, their food is truly delicious! I speak no lie. You can even say their Autumn Cloud Cakes are heavenly. Three layers of fluffy pancakes topped with baked cinnamon apples, topped with a dollop of whipped cream, topped with oozings of maple syrup. I mean, that was how I ate each bite. And somewhere in between, were crunches of pecan pieces. My daughter ordered a loaded potato omelette with its crepe-like texture, which I will order next time, because one bite will lead you to beg your daughter for another and then another...and then it came with fresh spinach, a serving of sour cream and more potatoes. We started with a bowl of savory chicken soup, loads of carrots and parsley here. No, we started with hot chocolate. I had a double shot of espresso, too. Then I finished with a medium roasted coffee. I bought this from their "to go" counter where diners milled around as they waited for tables. There was an old piano in the waiting area. Stopped by this place for lunch with a few coworkers and really loved it. As other reviewers have mentioned, you seat yourself but you get served at a table, or you can order at the counter for takeout. The history of this place is interesting and the owner was more than happy to tell us all about it. The decor is very cute and I loved the vibe. The food was good. I had the hot ham sandwich but found myself wishing for more brie, so if you are into brie, ask for a little extra. A coworker ordered the cloud cakes and said they were awesome so I will definitely have to try those if I ever go back. Five stars for the coffee and pastries. On our way out we each ordered a coffee to go and as diehard Starbucks drinkers, all agreed that the coffee was better than Starbucks. They have the normal sugar options but also have simple syrup for cold drinks (HUGE plus). Parking is ample and the place was very easy to find. I was on the fence between 4 and 4.5 stars so I settled with 4 For starters this place could easily be missed because it's front is on the side of the building facing the parking lot. If you want to sit you just sit anywhere. So we chose a table and immediately the server came over. (I should mention we sat next to the ledge and grabbed our own menus. Not sure if that's what you're supposed to do but we did) we both got iced lattes, mine was mocha and my sisters was caramel. I ordered a build your own omelet and my sister got the classic pork roll egg and cheese on a roll. Our drinks came quickly, but for some reason hers was in a plastic to go container and mine was in a glass to stay. Not sure why that was. We did wait a long time for our meals. Like, I finished my coffee before we got our food. They were pretty busy and the kitchen looks small, so it's not a huge deal but I did think we waited a while. The food was good. It wasn't super hot so it made us think maybe it was ready and was just sitting waiting to be served? Anyways, I ate every bit. Now, we wanted to leave but no one came over to drop the check. A hidden gem in Central Jersey! As an Edison resident, why I didn't discover this place earlier! I usually commute to the city. Glad with today's new normal of remote working, I was able to try the food from The Edison Automat. The restaurant is clean with a nice outdoor sitting area. I ordered grilled chicken sandwich and oatmeal with a side scrambled egg. Simple food by the name, but the flavor is outstanding! Will definitely come back to try all from the menu. read more

I was hesitant to leave a glowing review, as I felt the restaurant didn't live up to the hype in its beginning years of operating. However, over time, I've warmed up to the place and the food/atmosphere they bring. It's definitely a modern restaurant us younger Edison-ites have been yearning for quite some time. I've been coming here for years and my entire group had said if this was their first time there they'd never come back. On a basic level, the food was just okay. I had the autumn cloud cakes and the apples were sour and my friend said it had been much different last time she was there. Overall, everyone we speak to says the food is inconsistent or it's just not as good since ownership changed. Our waitress was fine. The one bizarre issue I had was I asked if they could do a smaller order of pancakes since I had my 10 month old. I was told no. I was directed to the kids menu of the brunch restaurant that offered things like grilled cheese, quesadillas, and chicken tenders. Like no my 10 month old isn't going to eat a quesadilla at 10 am but thanks she has 2 teeth. I was told I'd have to order an adult sized meal for her which was just bizarre in itself. It's a breakfast/lunch/brunch restaurant why don't you offer things like that for kids? The waitress wouldn't even pretend to ask the chef. Like listen, we've all worked in customer service. Go to the kitchen, stand there, spin around, and pretend you asked then tell me no. She wouldn't even humor the request for a smaller order of pancakes. So I ordered pancakes even though I didn't even want them so my kid could eat. She ate half a pancake. But whatever. That's not even factored into my review. The one star review is due to the "manager". Like I said, I've been coming here for years. I've always loved their coffee. My friend and I ordered lattes and the coffee tasted burnt. We chalked it up to the caramel and asked the waitress if we could just have vanilla ones instead as our friends tasted fine. 15 minutes later new coffees arrived and they still tasted off. We asked to just have them removed from the bill since they weren't good. The waitress said she couldn't and went to talk to the manager. After multiple back and forths to tell us "are you aware there are two shots of espresso", "the barista says they're fine" and "oat and almond milk make them taste different". It was clear that she was going back and forth to the barista who kept sending her back with new info so to take this poor girl out of the equation I asked for the manager who was somehow also the barista. As a side note, no, I've ordered many coffees there and they've never tasted burnt no matter what milk I used. also, keep in mind the lattes were removed. We had one sip of both. The barista/manager/whoever was so ridiculously rude. She said she could make new ones and that was our only option. We had been there over an hour and it had taken that long to get 2 coffees. We were already done with our food. No. We asked again for them to be taken off. We were told again she couldn't take them off. I clarified, "can't or won't?" And she said "won't". She claimed she already wasted 8 shots of espresso remaking the drinks twice as though it was our fault she can't make a decent or consistent cup of coffee. She kept forcing that she could make them a third time but would not remove them from the bill. So she'd rather waste 4 more shots than just remove them. Not for nothing, the coffees were over $6 a cup. We spent over $100 and she was fighting with me and was very clearly personally victimized over a $6 cup of coffee. Also kind of weird that someone who complained about wasting espresso wont make a smaller kids portion pancake to avoid food waste but whatever. Not for nothing, if you're going to charge over $6 for a latte you should probably make a good one. We ended up paying for them and just leaving after she continuously told us we were wrong about the coffees we've been ordering for years, but not before she insulted me further. I used the wrong word when talking about the coffees after a few minutes of back and forth I meant to say coffee and said "food" by mistake and she started saying "so now it's the food?" and i asked "you're really going to argue with me over using the wrong word by mistake?" She continued with "well that's what you said. You said food" We asked to talk to the owner and asked for contact info and the "manager" refused. I understand she can't give out his or her personal info but there's no email or number? She said they'd be there later and I sarcastically asked if I should just wait in the parking lot all day and watch the restaurant until they come in since she couldn't give me any contact info. SHE SAID YES. Full disclosure, the purpose of going out was to get out of the house after our grandpa died. Sorry that the cup of shitty coffee you made was such a day ruiner that you had to take it out on me. Clearly you were going through something as well. I've worked retail, customer service, and in the food industry and clearly training has changed. Very clear that ownership has changed. Cane here for the first time mid day Saturday in 90 degree weather. My family sat outside under the shade where it was cool. I had my little pup as well. The place was very modern and clean. The menu was extensive and healthy. We ordered a quinoa bowl, eggs, cloud cakes, breakfast plater, almond french toast, break fast potatoes and a pork role for my pup. Just found this place and it's the real deal. Great coffee including cold brew (16 hour steep time). They get their locally roasted coffee beans twice a week. Great breakfast sandwiches. Going for lunch tomorrow. They are friendly, play great music and best of all for my family they bake their own Gluten Free bread ire so ANY sandwich can be gluten free!!! And they have multiple vegetarian options for both breakfast and lunch. Final note spoke with the owner Matt for about 15-20 minutes just a good dude! So a year on still our hands down favorite place to go for a breakfast or lunch bite. My kids would argue that they make the best Gluten Free bread/rolls in the area which allows them to enjoy there sandwiches. Hands down the best brunch spot I have been to. Let me caveat this - I am a vegetarian who doesn't eat eggs (except in baked good). This usually limits my options to sweet breakfast foods (i.e. pancakes, french toasts, waffles...), avocado toast, or a sandwich full of grilled veggies, namely squash, eggplant, and bell peppers (bleh!). As a self-proclaimed foodie, I like to have more options which are not always available to me. BUT the Edison Automat has plenty of options and lets you sub tofu for eggs in many of their offerings which I love. So if you're like me, I think you will love this place. Details on my first Edison Automat Brunch: 1. Staff seemed slightly overwhelmed but this did not impact service! Servers were friendly, accommodating, and more than happy to provide suggestions. 2. Drinks - my friend and I ordered iced lattes with flavor shots (chai and caramel) and oat milk - yes they have oat milk! The chai flavoring was one of the best I've had. Most places make their chai flavored drinks unbelievably and unnecessarily sweet, but it was almost perfect here. 3. Sides - Home fries and sweet potato fries. The home fries were seasoned well with a spice mix and had formed a nice crust from the skillet. The sweet potato fries were warm, crispy, and delicious - exactly what you would expect. The portions of their sides are no joke - can be easily shared between a group of 4. They also have Frank's, ketchup, and Sriracha as condiments which pretty much caters to most folk's condiment needs. 4. Meal - Breakfast burrito - eggs subbed with tofu. Absolutely delicious. This comes with avocado and they do not skimp. It was the perfect portion, not too little not too much, just filling enough especially with all the sides! 5.
