I visit Metuchen often and am so glad a calligraphy event I attended with a friend finally led me to Cafe Paris. Was a cute little spot! It was giving cute Paris cafe vibes, obviously. The interior is cute with walls painted to look like France with outdoor seating as well. I ordered the eggs benedict and my boyfriend got the agneau roti. We strolled in because it was the only place for brunch that had an open table for us. The ambiance isn't cohesive. The murals on the wall are beautiful, but the lighting was overbearing, and the music was too loud and made it difficult to chat. The service and the food were both fine. We ordered the quiche, the croissant sandwich, and the specialty pancakes from the fall menu. The pancakes felt like they were frozen and heated in a microwave, with a pretty syrup which was yummy. We felt the same way about some sides. The sandwich looked good put in the panini press! Came here for dinner on a Sunday night. It was decorated for Valentine's Day. This place will always hold a special place in ours hearts because this is where my wife and I had our first date and where I proposed to her. I ordered the galette exotique which came with sausage, roasted red peppers, sour cream, grated cheese and topped with an egg. This was one of the best galettes I've had. It was filled end to end and the flavors were rich and balanced. My wife got the sandwich Au crabe on a croissant. The sandwich came with crab cakes, fresh mozzarella, lettuce and tomatoes. This was just okay because the crab cake wasn't very flavorful. The fries and sweet potato fries that the meals came with for $1 up charge were also pretty good. The star of the show was dessert. We ordered the crepe chocolat d'amour which was filled with fresh strawberries, Nutella, chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. We ordered one to share but after tasting it, we definitely could've eaten one each. The Crepe Suzette- (reason why I ordered here- had a craving figured try a new place) the crepe was the right color on outside but the folded up inside was burned- the sauce was basically melted orange marmalade with a few bits of fresh orange peel- as it cooled the jelly got hard. To charge $13.99 For ONE burned crepe with jelly inside and out is beyond disappointing. Finally, the French Onion Soup- ZERO melty cheese on top of the bread- NONE. The onions were burned and the broth had no flavor. Total fail. The "appetizers" consist of items like mashed potatoes, onion rings, egg rolls and steamed broccoli etc -side dishes. What a fabulous little cafe right in my neck of the woods in Central Jersey! I gotta tell you, there are a lot of other brunch spots in the surrounding area but this was such a pleasant surprise. I have to say I don't under why there are so many negative reviews but I truly had a wonderful experience! Located on Main Street in Metuchen, you have to opt for street parking but it's available. We were seated immediately in this extremely cute cafe with Parisian decor. Our waiter was barking orders in French, which is very on brand for a Parisian cafe. I love that they have non dairy options for coffee and I love that the menu is big but not too big. My husband got the croque madame and I ordered the chicken sandwich with avocado. The croque madame was decent. And my chicken sandwich was excellent and perfect. Honestly, I had nothing to complain about. The chicken breast was juicy, the avocado was fresh. The side of fruit was a delight. Truly have very little complaints. We also tried the chocolate cake which was very good. The pricing was also very reasonable and the service was great. Atmosphere: 5 SUPER CUTE! There's seating outside and inside. Love the mural paintings of Paris on the walls. The fans over the tables are on to circulate air, and doesn't feel stuffy inside. Recently my girlfriend and I wanted to grab brunch at the nearby Hatch 44 restaurant but they were so absolutely flooded with customers they were no longer taking names. So we wandered over to Main Street and came across the charming looking Cafe Paris. The name is not random. This cafe fully embraces it complete with a lit up, sparkling Eiffel Tower in the window and large, dramatic paintings of Paris adorning the walls. The cafe is not huge but can easily fit about 40ish people inside. Fortunately, even though it was packed there was one table open and we were seated quickly. The staff was *hustling* the entire time. I don't think I saw any of the wait staff get a moment of peace the entire time I was there and the kitchen staff was working in overdrive. We waited a *tad* longer than usual to get our menus and for our orders to be taken, but given the circumstances it was completely understandable. I wound up ordering the Galette Exotique, featuring Spicy sausages, egg, roasted peppers, sour cream and grated cheese. My gf ordered the Galette A L'epinard that comes with Fresh spinach, mushrooms, roasted peppers and goat cheese. All the Galettes include either a potato side or mixed side salad. For dessert, we ordered the Crepe Suzette (Fresh orange, orange sauce with Grand Marnier). I have often said that one of the hallmarks of a great dish is that part way through eating it, you already want to have it again at a future date. My Galette Exotique absolutely qualified. I swear there was sausage in *every* bite, something I had not expected. Even better, the sausage had been grilled beautifully before being added to this dish. The other ingredients added wonderful flavor and texture. It was super hearty. If you want to go lighter, the Galette L'epinard was also wonderfully tasty but not quite as robust in terms of sheer quantity of food. I would happily get either dish again! The Crepe Suzette was wonderfully sweet and tasty. I am generally very sensitive to sweet, so too much puts me off. This was just right, and the orange flavor was not lost in the sweetness. For those wondering, there are two rest rooms, one Men's, one Women's but frankly they're both self contained bathrooms so anyone can use either one. The Men's room was very clean though I did note with a bit of curiosity that there was a bottle of hair gel near the sink. Go figure? I am so happy to have learned about Cafe Paris and I look forward to my next visit! read more

Avoid this place. The crepes were under done and a bit rubbery. The space was crammed and loud. Waitresses forgot most of our items. One arrived late and one never arrived at all. When we got the bill, the price was way inflated. The bill was scribbled on and hard to read as it was hand written, but I later realized that they tacked on a tip without notifying us. So we basically tipped twice ( this was not for a large group just a party of 4). Some of the item prices also appeared raised from that on the menu. We left spending over a $100 for what should have been a $70 bill based on the prices of what we ordered . Outrageous. It wasn't until I read the reviews here of others who experienced the same situation that I realized they had overcharged us. I can't believe this place continues to get away with this. Oh man... I did not have a good experience here. My friends and I ended up here since we wanted to stay in the Metuchen area, and my friends have been here before and had great things to say. When we got there, the cafe had a 5 minute wait which was okay with us. Once we got a table, it took our waitress a bit to take our order but we were able to order within 20 minutes of sitting there. This is where it went downhill. Our food took an hour to come out, and it took our drinks even longer than that. We were surprised by how slow the service was since the other tables were getting served pretty quickly and the cafe had started to empty out once we sat down. My friends and I ordered avocado toast and it wasn't what we expected. We waited around an hour for our food, and we were served some sandwich with egg in it, which isn't what we had ordered. After waiting another 30 minutes, we finally got our avocado toast. It was more of a sandwich that had wilted lettuce, a slice of tomato, and avocado. The avocado wasn't mashed and it didn't have any salt, pepper, or any other spice on it. I wish we had gotten our food a lot faster, it would've made the experience a lot better, especially since we all had a hard deadline to leave the cafe by. Overall, our stay at the cafe ended up being around 2.5 hours which was longer than expected. I will say however, when we got our drinks, we all really liked our coffee. I'm not sure if I would come back to the cafe due to my experience, but maybe if I'm in the area I'll come back for the coffee. read more

The food was ok at best. I ordered an avocado toast, which barely had avocado in it, one piece of lettuce and tomato. The apple pie was decent, but it would have been nicer warmed. I will say the latte I got was pretty good, and not overly sweet. I came with a couple of friends and the service was really slow. Once we placed our order, it took almost 40 minutes to get our food because our waitress put in the wrong order, which was ok (mistakes happen), but then our drinks took a really long time to get, and even after we asked for the check it took almost 20 minutes for her to come around with the bill. Horrible Experience! AVOID AT ANY COST! Stopped here to have crepé, walked in and the manager kept working on her calculator and after 10 mins asks what do you want? Sign we ignored! Sat down and were given a menu. Placed order for a simple banana strawberry Nutella crepe, came out in less than 5 mins (was amazed with the speed of service) and then first dig and the crepe was premade, they just heat it and serve it! When we went to speak with the manager, she seemed totally unconcerned and said this is how we make, you don't like it, no worries don't pay! Extremely rude and disrespectful! The Spinach galette also was nothing more than basic and same for the panini with smoked turkey & Brie. The Crepe Suzette was on the rubbery side. Laetitia wrote her own gratuity into the bill and had the "owner" bring it over BEFORE SERVING DESSERT! When he came back I asked about the gratuity and he said that it wasn't added so I pointed out the chicken scratch antics and said "then what's this?" He said "I don't know" still expecting me to just hand the bill and pay an extra gratuity on top. I said I'll wait to find out what this charge is! So then he sends Laetitia who explains in an extremely ENTITLED way that they add 18% to all bills over 50. She said the owner doesn't speak a word of English after being here for 10 years. They also surprise you at the end that you have to pay the credit card fee of 3.99%. Having had lunch nearby, we just wanted something sweet. Yelp brought us to this place. Due to COVID I was surprised to see the tables so close together inside as well as outside. There were no tables X-out for social distancing. Almost all the customers did not wear their mask while waiting for their food which made me uncomfortable. Decor wise, it has a very nice Parisian vibe. Let me just say, the staff is busy, busy, busy! They were super friendly and always came by with a smile. But I found myself just watching how crazy busy they were, it was like watching a show. Customers complaining about why their takeout orders were taking so long, them juggling to get the orders to everyone's table. We ordered some cappuccinos and lattes. There were made perfectly. No complaints. Here is where it went downhill for us. Known for their crepes here, we decided on the Fresh Apples & Fresh Peach. The crepes were cold and hard. I had a hard time cutting it up with my knife. The peaches seem like it came straight from a can (it was cold) and the apples were powdery. My son didn't even know he was eating apples until I told him. Is that what it was, he asked. I think the peach & apples should have been served warm. It just felt like everything I ate on the plate was a separate component. But this place is popular for a reason but I don't think it's for the crepes. I ordered Lamb Provencal with mashed Potatoes. The lamb was very succulent. Immediate fell in love with it. Mashed potatoes could have been better, but i didn't care much as i was already in heaven with my juicy lamb! My girlfriend orders butternut squash soup and galette, and she loved it.
