    Rice pudding martini
    Cat C.

Had a taste for some escargot, and per usual Sophie's Bistro did NOT disappoint. A mainstay in Franklin that flys under the radar. The escargot came out super hot and garlicky, which was perfect. The pate was solid - came with all the right stuff and they hooked me up with extra bread. Only thing is I like my pate at room temperature, but that's just me. Got the rice pudding martini because it had Goldschläger in it. Way better than the shots I did in college - actually tasted good this time around. They sent out a pear crepe for dessert on the house, which was a nice touch and a great way to end the meal. Ended up talking with Matt, the bartender and the owner for a while. Always love hearing the stories from a place that's been around for 35+ years. Sophie's has that authentic French bistro vibe - I call it the South of Franklin. Great local spot that's earned its place in Franklin .

Not sure how we have never came here but it is a great local French food option! Service was friendly and there is plenty of parking. It is intimate and close quartered inside. 1. Escargot - good, a bit garlic heavy but comes out hot as it should 2. French onion soup - lots of cheese on top. The broth is great but wished it had more onion 3. Lobster ravioli - good lobster taste to this and delicious 4. Lava cake with added ice cream - good quality and tasty! Overall I recommend trying at least once if you're craving French food in the area.

I am so disappointed in myself. I have literally known about and driven past this gem for decades and this was my first time giving it a chance. But, better late than never and I hope that it stays open forever, because I need to catch up for lost time! SB is so quaint and cozy! Just a lovely atmosphere. A beautiful bar sits in the center of the room. And I can't wait to sit there for one of their beautifully crafted cocktails. Service was very attentive and friendly. Greatly appreciated becoming acquainted with Peter, the owner, who was so nice and welcoming. Now, on to the food.... THE best French onion soup that I've ever had! It was just perfect from the broth to the cheese.. and all in between. Pate appetizer was really beautiful. I loved all the accompaniments that were served with. Highly recommend the scallop entree. It is served in a cream sauce with veggies and mashed Yukon gold potatoes. Scrumptious. Since it was my birthday, they were so generous in giving a crepe type dessert with a candle. Greatly appreciated. We'd already ordered the creme brulee (YUM!) and the bread pudding, both were delicious. Oh and loved my French martini! Was well balanced and refreshing. I can not wait to return. Until then, I'm spreading the word about this great establishment in the heart of Franklin Twp!

It was awesome the fries were phenomenal we hammered 15 plates of them. The service was fast and the waiters were very nice.

Service was great! I had escargot for appetizer. It was delicious! , grilled yellow tail tuna with bernaise sauce for my entree. The grilled tuna was on the dry side but the bernaise sauce compensated for it. It was well balanced. The spinach was garlicky,it was very tasty . Cheesecake for dessert was shared by 3 people it was not overly sweet and it was perfect.

This was my second visit here. The first was shortly after they first opened, nearly two decades ago, I think. The reason it took so long to come back was that it's not exactly close to where I currently reside and it's also located in my home town, which I try to avoid at all costs. Anyway, my best friend and I came back to the old neighborhood to celebrate her birthday. It's wonderful to see that the restaurant is not only still here but is thriving! There's plenty of parking in the lot attached to the restaurant. It's adorable inside. Love the shiny ebony floors and the painted bar area. String lights always kick it up a notch for me in terms of ambiance. The hostess who seated us was very friendly and Peter, the owner, stopped by to make sure we were doing well and to have a chat. Very personable guy. We kicked things off with a French 75 cocktail. I followed that up with a French Martini. They make theirs with vanilla vodka instead of plain vodka. Do yourself a favor and get yourself one or two of those! Appetizers were great. Couldn't resist the French onion soup and my friend enjoyed the pate plate very much. We had the scallops for our entree and it was the best choice. They were fresh and cooked perfectly! So tender. Loved the cream sauce they came in. Apparently I was so hungry, I forgot to take pics of that! Dessert was excellent! The cream brûlée was delicious! I indicated that we were there to celebrate a birthday when I made our reservation and they surprised us with a crepe and a candle and Peter gave us a parting shot of his homemade liquor. Lovely touch! You should make this your new favorite local spot!

Received their email on Thur that they've got soft shell crabs in, and we knew we got to act fast b/c it was all gone within 3 days last year. Luckily we got the reservation at 8pm. Yes, the soft shell crabs were delicious with lemon butter sauce and capers, spinach and really buttery fine mashed potatoes, perfect combination. We had Escargots and Moules Marinières for appetizers. We enjoyed everything. The place was cozy with a few outdoor seatings. The service staff was friendly. We've been here a few times, and the food was consistently good. Maybe we will try their brunch in the summer.

Sophie's is consistently excellent in every way! My family's been dining here a few times a year for the past 15+ years and we have had an amazing experience every single time! Yesterday was the first time we came for Sunday Brunch and we loved everything about it, food, mimosas, bellinis, our lovely server Jules, and the atmosphere and Charles Aznavour music playing in the background. Sophie's is pricey and worth every cent!

excellent dinner spot. the food was delicious and quality of ingredients were spectacular. I got the escargots for app and my husband got the french onion. as entrees I got the scallops dish (coquilles saint jacques) - the scallops were perfectly cooked. my husband got the beef bourguignon and enjoyed it as well. for dessert the profiteroles are a must. overall exceptional dinner! will come back again and try their brunch too

very attentive staff. They're very sweet. The food is very good. I had the French onion soup and my husband had the potato leek soup. Probably one of the best French onion soups I've ever had. I also had the Vol du Vent and hubby had the lamb shank. We were so full. It was our birthdays, and the staff gave us a crêpe filled with ice cream and chocolate sauce. The owner came around with his own concoction after dinner shot. Everyone was very sweet and nice. The food was delicious. Next time I go would be for lunch and I would get the French onion soup with a salad and a glass of white wine. yum yum!

Can you believe I had never had an espresso martini until that evening?? So my first was a pumpkin espresso martini. Well I may have had 2. And another drink. Ahem. The service was great, not fussy, and I wasn't rushed even as we approached last call. Visit 2: having heard about my great experience there alone, my cousin arranged to meet me there last week. Or so she thought. Through a series of mutual miscommunications, I was here at the crib waiting for her, while she was at the wine bar waiting for me. Collectively, we ordered calamari- bland, arancini-delicious, crispy eggplant-bland and dry. I ordered the crab agnolotti which was just, well.... bland. My mom's salmon seemed to be cooked well, we asked for medium and that's what she got. The tiramisu was good, and I am not generally a fan. The mocktail that ordered-basil gimlet was a nice balance of sweet and sour. Overall, really giving it a 3.5 but based upon comparison to my other 4 star ratings, I had to bring it down a bit. An overall nice experience, but since the food is the star... I'm not sure if I will return.

Review: Café Faubourg - Montclair…read more Café Faubourg is one of Montclair's true gems--an authentic French bistro that feels as if it were lifted straight from a quiet Parisian street and placed right in the heart of town. From the moment you step inside, the ambiance sets the tone: warm lighting, intimate tables, and that unmistakable bistro charm that makes every meal feel like a small escape. The food is consistently excellent, starting with their hummus, which is surprisingly standout for a French spot. Smooth, flavorful, and beautifully plated, it's the perfect way to begin the meal and pairs wonderfully with their fresh bread. The steak frites is a must-order and easily one of the best in the area. The steak is tender and cooked exactly to preference, richly seasoned without being heavy, and served alongside crisp, golden fries that are everything you want in a classic bistro dish. It's simple, authentic, and prepared with the kind of care that elevates a traditional favorite into something memorable. Service at Café Faubourg is warm and attentive without being intrusive, contributing to the relaxed elegance of the experience. Whether you're dropping in for a casual dinner or celebrating a special occasion, the staff makes you feel welcome and unrushed. The inside has both a main dining hall and a greenhouse, which feels like basically sitting on a covered patio with well kept shrubbery and ambient lighting. It's a neat balance of modern and open while still feeling cozy. I think my favorite dish is the ramp fava bean toast -- the umami from the purée balanced with the crunch of the toast and the brightness from the pickled ramps. I'd also recommend the steak two ways -- both cuts cooked perfectly to medium rare -- and the lobster linguine was delicately fragrant, buttery, and slightly acidic all at once. The chips and eggplant dip (kind of like hummus consistency) was kind of a fun, shareable starter too. I will say that I wasn't impressed with the ceviche or branzino our waiter recommended it. The branzino particularly came out a bit dry, and more of the tomato-olive-caper side or dressing would've helped. And while our waiter answered our questions, service felt a little more on the less attentive side.
