It's always been one of our favorite spots. Unfortunately, today's experience with my in-laws was a completely different story. We sat in the dining room, which had maybe four tables occupied. Our server asked for our order before we even had water on the table. After we ordered drinks, he continued pushing us to order food. We explained that we weren't in a rush, but the pressure continued. Once our food arrived, our server never checked in to see how everything was. My father-in-law's burger was overcooked, and the overall service left a lot to be desired. It's disappointing because we've always had such a great time here. **If we return, we'll stick to the bar.** The bartenders and bar staff have consistently made our visits enjoyable, but unfortunately, the dining room service really put a damper on today's experience.

I was in Somerset for a conference, and by the time arrived I needed lunch. I wandered into Mahana…read moreFresh and found a calm little dining room with only a handful of tables occupied. The young woman at the counter greeted me with genuine enthusiasm and patiently explained how to build a bowl. The setup will be familiar to anyone who has visited one of the many assembly line quick serve spots that have multiplied across America, but the ingredients here seemed fresher, healthier, and considerably more interesting. Then came the surprise. I ordered a vegetarian bowl. Not because I had planned to. Not because I had undergone a spiritual awakening. It simply happened. I chose cauliflower rice, Sriracha honey Brussels sprouts, Buffalo cauliflower, roasted mushrooms instead of a traditional protein, and creamy wasabi sauce. The young woman kindly asked if I was a vegetarian and pointed out that they offered tofu. I declined, partly out of stubbornness and partly because the bowl already looked complete. Everything tasted excellent. The Brussels sprouts were outstanding. The Buffalo cauliflower had just enough kick. The mushrooms brought a satisfying earthiness to the whole affair. If I have one small complaint, the cauliflower rice was a little dry. Fortunately, the creamy wasabi sauce solved the problem immediately. What impressed me most was the service. The young woman who helped me at the counter later came by my table to make sure I was enjoying my meal. That sort of attention is becoming rare enough to qualify as noteworthy. The restaurant was spotless, the food was flavorful and the people were kind. Not much more you could ask for. I wouldn't hesitate to come back for another bowl.

I can feel good about everything I eat here knowing that it's all pretty good for me. The pricing is very fair considering the quality of the ingredients. I usually make my own bowl and my favorite protein is their tofu. I love the cold noodle base; there is something so comforting about them. I've tried pretty much all of the veggie options and I must say they are all great! And their spicy Mango Pineapple Vinaigrette is so so good with anything! It actually packs a pretty significant punch. The people here are always super friendly and the restaurant is vibrant and clean.

Uncle Tank's Kitchen & Bar in Somerset, NJ, offers an old school bar feel with great food. I have…read moreto start this review off with my party walked in late. Kitchen was basically closed down and they still open the kitchen up and served us. Just for that hospitality I'm giving them 5 stars on service. I was told they have been open for over 50 years but had a newer owner that did a ton of renovation. We had an amazing conversation with an old WWI vet about this being his first bar he went to and has never stopped. The menu has a strong selection of bar food and appetizers like fried pickles and buffalo wings. We got the Garlic Parmesan Wings and they hit the spot. Uncle Tank's is known for its burgers, particularly the "Tank's Build A Burger," which is juicy and cooked to perfection. The bar at Uncle Tank's features a robust selection of craft beers, cocktails, and wines. The cocktail list includes creative options that change seasonally and does the local craft beers. Uncle Tank's is a fantastic spot for anyone looking to hangout with friends or the local crowd from the neighborhood.

My coworkers and I ordered drinks that, when they finally arrived, seemed to be assembled from memory rather than care, like someone describing a cocktail they once saw in a magazine to someone else in another room. The loaded fries showed up cold, as if they had lost the will to live somewhere between the kitchen and the table. The nachos were an oily heap, glistening with regret and poor choices. Service drifted in and out like a ghost unsure of who or what it should be haunting. When we mentioned the state of the food, our server simply offered a shrug, a small gesture that suggested that this is simply how things are here. No remedy was proposed, no apology attempted. I would return only under the most dire of circumstances, when all other options have vanished and hunger begins to negotiate terms. Two stars, because the lights were on and no one actively wept.

I had the mixed lamb and chicken with rice, and it was absolutely phenomenal. The meat was juicy, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. I also grabbed a side of their kofta kebab, which was tender, rich, and full of bold spices, and paired it all with a refreshing mango lassi that was smooth, creamy, and the perfect way to round out the meal. Besides the classics fried seafood and hot dogs, they're also doing chicken wings, cheesesteaks, pastrami sandwiches, even a half-chicken with fries. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The foot-long delivers and the regular dogs are fine, if not a little salty. The chicken wings are great, but I always get them naked and then dip in sweet chili, sriracha,Nashville hot, bbq, or another half-dozen sauces. I had the half chicken there and enjoyed it. My mother was happy to find a place still doing fish and chips around here, and we got it several times. The fries are crinkle cut, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside and kind of addictive. The whitefish fried filet is not bad, but the fried shrimp steal the show. Those are crunchy and also a bit addictive. Hard to eat just a few. I would go back there just for the fried shrimp. The hush puppies are the lowest point: too dense and dry. They also do burgers there but I haven't tried those yet. Overall, good experience there, the chicken dishes are the standouts.
