    Tomato soup with grilled cheese
    Nancy S.

I love this place! So many choices and each one delicious. I've always heard Gordon Ramsay say that any restaurant with so many menu items isn't high-quality. Old Man Rafferty's has such an extensive menu, but everything I've tried has been great so far! The stir-fry recipe changed, so I took a notch off. We met the manager on our last visit, and she was so friendly. To start, we got the bread appetizer. Warm bread, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. They gave us a choice of condiments. YUMMY! My niece had the Crispy Chicken sandwich, breaded with panko on a brioche Roll. It was huge!! She also got the tomato soup. She liked it, but I didn't try it. I had the meatball app, which was great. As a main, I ordered the stir-fry since I loved it the last time I came to Old Man's, but it didn't taste as good as the first time. A tad too sweet. It definitely needed more soy sauce! Gave one star off because of the stir-fry. Anyway, we barely finished our meals or even started them because of the generous apps. Took home most of our food to enjoy later, and we did! Good job, Old Man Rafferty's! Some of the negative comments are odd--grumpy people who demand the world be handed to them.

Great place to go out to dinner or happy hour. Perfect date place or meet up for the gang. I will definitely come here again.

Great place for dinner or drinks. Perfect for a date or meet up with the gang. Nina was so nice. Outdoor area for the nice days.

Comfortable old school bar and grill vibe, with classic burger and salad menu items to accompany a wide range of drinks. Yuengling on tap was nice to wash down a satisfying ahi tuna salad. The veggie burger was seared well with hot salty fries. Friendly service. Looked like a chill bar. Nice spot for lunch or dinner. Inside and outside seating.

I have been to both the Hillsborough location and the New Brunswick location. Hillsborough is way better hands down. They have outdoor dining, a parking lot and better service. What I loved most was when I went in April on an unusually warm day, they were willing to allow us to sit outside even though most restaurants have strict months where they allow that. They also have a happy hour which I loved and which had a decent variety of food and drinks at a good discount. The food is typical bar food but everything was delicious.

Supposed to be a 14oz Steak - and Burnt

If I had one phrase to describe this place it would be Under-average. Horrific Breaded yet Rubberized Wings with little to no flavor and Cold Soup were how we started the meal. The burgers were bland and tasted like bought in pre made patties. Menu stated 14oz NY Strip (yes before cooking weight) that was served burnt and was more like a 10oz weight. Lackluster sides that accompanied the dishes. The interior is dark and very dated, could benefit from a cleaning and revamping, chairs are very frail and uncomfortable. Not much more to say, on the Don't go back list for certain. Only redeeming quality was our waitress was awesome.

I was in the area right before Valentine's Day and wanted to try this place. I came here on a Friday and it was very busy. I found a high top table available in the bar area, and was seated. I was given a drink menu and my bf and I ordered a couple of cocktails. Old Man Rafferty's has a large menu, there's something for everyone. Anything from Appetizers, Starters and Shares, Kiddos, Soups, Salads, Burgers and Sliders, Hand Helds, Taco Meals,Pizzas, and Entrees. I shared their Coconut Shrimp with Fig Duck Sauce. The Shrimp were a nice size. It was good, the Coconut Shrimp were crispy and the fig duck sauce was a nice addition. It gave a sweet component. I also tried their French Onion Soup. It was served with a caramelized onion and Swiss cheese flat bread. The soup was good, and the flatbread was a nice accompaniment. For my entree I chose their Meatloaf with Mashed Potatoes, Peas and Carrots and Beef Gravy. Their meatloaf reminded me more of Salisbury Steak then meatloaf. I didn't taste any veggies in it. Their mashed potatoes were excellent and the peas and carrots were fresh and very good. My bf ordered their Kurobuta Pork Shank Osso Bucco with Mashed Potatoes, Honey Glazed String beans and Carrots. This is fairly new on their menu and my bf enjoyed his meal. We were very full and didn't order dessert. They have a nice dessert menu. They do offer special requests, Vegan and Gluten Free dishes. Our service could've been better. I asked my server Rachel 3xs to please bring me a menu after we ordered. I wanted to check out something on it. I finally got one from another server, she kept forgetting to bring me one. Our food was delivered to our table by another server. Rachel was very nice but disappeared a lot. She checked on us after we got our cocktails and food, and finally when we got the bill. Once we were done and got our bill, it took another 15 mins or so to check out. I guess there are a lot of regulars in the bar area which adds to a lot of distractions. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. The lighting is on the dark side. In the bar area are some high tops and in the back are some tables separate from the dining room. Old Man Rafferty's also has outdoor seating in the warmer months. They have a huge parking lot, and I believe this place is wheelchair accessible. They do have handicap parking. This restaurant is a good place to bring kids. They have a kids menu. I would return to try other things on their menu. The cocktails are very good. The portions are large and the atmosphere is warm and comfortable. Atmosphere- 4 Stars Food- 4 Stars large portions, big menu Vegan and Gluten Free and Special Requests Service- 3 Stars

Had crab cakes with curly French fries, coleslaw and salad. Party of 4 on a hot Saturday at dinner time. The a/c was struggling but our meals were yummy. Split a Dark Side of the Moon dessert cake. Place filled up pretty fast. Still a popular place.

Back in April, I organized a surprise birthday at Old Man Rafferty's for one of my best friends. We had a large group of about 16 people. The manager was wonderful and very accommodating and set us up at two tables, outside under the tent. We were seated immediately and our server was great. He was friendly and successfully juggled all our food and drink orders and we were there for over 3 hours. I tried the meatballs, calamari, ravioli, sliders, and the shrimp. Everything was good, some items better than others. Save room for the desserts, because they are pretty great (although on the small side).

Our food order consisted of Mexican Street Steak tacos (with fries incl.on a side) and The Landing Burger-both were delicious, though we wish the food had less salt overall-everything,including the fries, were very salty! Ambiance is typical for a pub located in a basement-a tad cold inside, but come to a pub for drinks so wouldn't feel it,I guess :) overall, happy with our visit and would be curious to come back and try other items from their impressively wide selection on the menu.

It can be a bit confusing because you have a Pub located on the lower level in one building, and you have to walk down a flight of stairs to get to the pub. Next door is an entry for their private dining room with a fireplace, and then across the way they have an outdoor patio for dining. You can have parties here, My suggestion is they need to put signs outside directing customers where to go. There is a large free parking lot with some handicapped parking spaces close to the outdoor seating. With that being said, The Landing has a wonderful summer special every "THURSDAY ONLY" for Prime Rib Dinner which is 3 courses. You get a choice of soup or salad, your prime rib dinner, and dessert. I managed to come here two Thursday's in a row because I really enjoyed my Prime Rib Dinner. You can get this dinner sitting outside on their patio or in the pub restaurant. They have a standard cut, a queen's cut, and a king's cut. I chose their Queen Cut the first time and their King Cut the second time. The Queen cut was a perfect size for me. My boyfriend cleaned his plate he loved his prime rib dinner. I started off with their Caesar Salad. I was so amazed at how big it was, enough for two people. The Caesar Salad had lots of flavor and fresh croutons. I only ate half because I didn't want to fill up on It. My boyfriend chose their House Salad and it too was very large and looked good. My prime rib was cooked perfectly med-rare and it was served with creamy mashed potatoes, and grilled asparagus. On the side came a creamy horseradish sauce. Instead of a basic au jus they served a wonderful red wine reduction sauce which contributed to the overall flavor. For Dessert I had a choice of Mango Sorbet with Mixed Berries, Vanilla, or Chocolate Ice Cream. The first time I chose their Vanilla ice cream and asked if they could put Chocolate Syrup on it which they did. The second time I tried their Mango Sorbet with Mixed Berries, and that was the perfect ending. This past weekend, I went back again. For starters I tried their Duck Thai Chili Wings. They were outstanding with their hot and sweet sauce. I like to sit at the bar. My bartender John is a wonderful bartender and he recommended their Smokehouse BBQ Burger. It was large and had Cheddar, Frizzled Onions, Bacon, and Honey BBQ Sauce on it. It also came with Fries. He was so right this bbq bacon, onion cheese burger was very tasty. I only ate half, it was very filling. The Landing serves up wonderful Signature Cocktails, and they have Seasonal Cocktails too. I tried their Blueberry Bee's Knees Cocktail and their Passionfruit Martini. Both were great. They also have a good selection of aged Bourbon's and Tequila's. My boyfriend had me try their Blanton Bourbon. It was so smooth and delicious I can see why it's so special. The Landing can accommodate up to 120 people for an event with beautiful grounds that has that outdoor country feel. ( great for parties, corporate events or weddings.) They can also do intimate parties from 10-30 people. The Landing has a new Bocce Court. They have Trivia every Wednesday Night starting at 7pm. On Thursday's they have Bingo starting at 7pm. (It can get a bit loud in the pub.) Wednesday- Saturday 3-6pm is Happy Hour. All Day Happy Hour on Sundays, Brunch is served 12-3pm. $12 Lunch Specials Wednesday- Saturday 12-3pm. I really enjoyed my time here.

Flounder is actually right next to a distillery my cousin has been asking me about for years. I've lived in Franklin since 1990 and there are STILL places in Hillsborough I've never seen. So do forgive me. This brewery popped up on my IG (because of course it did) in the context of a monthly book club that they host in partnership with Somerset County libraries. I've spent the better part of the last 20 years primarily reading articles and books related to my grad coursework but made a commitment last fall to return to leisure reading that doesn't make me want to walk into the business end of the ocean à la Edna Pontellier. Take your time - I'll wait. I went for my first Books n Brews last month. The brewery has a classic wooded open concept downstairs, and a party loft upstairs where we have book club. It's BYOFood - at least on winter weekdays - summer and weekends may offer food trucks so please check before taking me at my word. The bartenders are super friendly and welcome you into the space - and back to the space once you return as I did this week. Our very own Cheers in central NJ. I'm Carla. The first time I went I got a cardamom beer, this week I snagged a currant forward hazy. Prices are reasonable and the vibes are great. They also have an outdoor picnic table area - my new book club buddy said that the outdoors is dog friendly and they regularly bring their pups. I'm both very excited for book club and for experiencing more of this brewery as the temps warm up.
