I am giving this place 5 stars only because of the variety of things that they have on the menu, huge outdoor seating, a bar with TVs that makes watching sports also enjoyable. I have been here many times (maybe even monthly) and the service has been consistent. We love places that has a good amount of parking spots as well. I personally love their ravioli selections and other familier dishes like shepherd's pie. Those are my go-to orders and some of their happy hour appetizer selections. Stage house is so hit or miss and this was totally a miss. The chili lime tacos were terrible - half my portion got tossed out. It was one chicken tender chunk that wasn't cut in tortilla that had no chili flavoring, the meat was tough, the tortillas stuck to the paper, so they're falling apart. The pineapple salsa was bland and flavorless - the pineapple was hard and not ripe. The "avocado crema" was a generic sauce. The rice and beans was a tiny portion with almost no beans. Husband got the bar pie that was pretty okay but we got overcharged for it. Thankfully we noticed it on the bill but the waitress overcharged us and our friends for their pizzas by putting in the wrong kind. Not actually has a full size bar, indoor dining area, and an outdoor patio. This is a slight variation from a traditional chicken Parmesan entrée. The cutlet was prepared differently. The edges were pounded thin and had a crispy texture. The center of the cutlet was thick and chewier. Hidden beneath the cutlet was house made spinach linguine. It's different from typical pasta, but it has an acquired earthy taste. The appearance of the vodka sauce isn't the most appealing, but it tastes a lot better than it looks. The sauce was thick and creamy and had chunks of tomato. I highly recommend requesting an additional cup of sauce for full flavor. Overall, I enjoyed this plate. The minor drawback was we arrived while our server was ending his shift during our meal. Always good food and atmosphere at Stage House Tavern. Service was quick at the bar where we sat. The steak was delicious and tender as I got it Medium Rare. Our takeout order for six of us was ready on time. This is a popular spot and we liked the ambiance even though we were there for a short time, awaiting our takeout. This was the first time we tried Stage House Tavern and we ordered a wide variety of menu items. This included: * Classic Cheese Raviolis * Spinach & Mushroom Raviolis * Goat Cheese Raviolis * Parmesan Crusted Chicken Breast * Red Beet Salad I sampled everything and very much liked the Red Beet Salad. I found the raviolis to be vey heavy though the Classic Cheese Raviolis had a tasty cheese sauce. The Chicken Breast was way overcooked and dry. first, I should point out that this review is in regards to the original House in Scotch Plains, and not their other locations. The original is much better than the others. The service has been inconsistent, but the food has always been very good. I would say that the regular menu options are more consistent and better quality than their specials. Their specials can be hit or miss while the regular fair are much more consistently good it can get quite crowded at times but if you're without the family and it's a couple visit, try one of the bars it's usually faster and obviously the same quality as if you were sitting. If you search for the restaurant, a sister restaurant of there is Pops up in Mountainside, I don't recommend that one. The service is way more inconsistent in the food. Just not the same. Be sure to go and enjoy the one in Scotch Plains. read more

Ambiance The restaurant itself is pretty spacious with multiple tables scattered around along with booths along the wall. The front area though is on the smaller side and can get crowded quickly . Good for one person. Apples were nice and crisp and loved the goat cheese mixed with red onions and pecans. Stage House franchise is pretty cool for what it is. I love the variety, it reminds me of Jose Tex-Mex, if you've ever been there, with the overwhelming menu that's still decent. The indoor seating is vast and plentiful, almost too plentiful, but it never feels cramped like other restaurants do. The service is exceptional. I cannot complain , our wait staff, every single time including this one, was great. The customer service goes above and beyond, and everything runs tightly here. There's tons of staff, but as I said, it never feels cramped. Every entrée on the menu is great, you'll leave full, no complaints. It seems like whenever you go to a Stage House location, you're transported to a better part of New Jersey for some reason. It's very good for what it is, with great ambiance and a nice time overall. I always feel comfortable knowing a trip to Stage House means a good time. So many options, and everything is good, from appetizers to dessert. Great for groups and couples alike. read more

I have been a loyal customer for years, which is why this experience was so disappointing. The service was terrible from start to finish. We waited about an hour just to receive our appetizers, and the drink service was just as slow. I ordered a second glass of wine, but after waiting so long, I canceled it because it never arrived. To my surprise, it still appeared on the bill. Rather than simply removing the charge, it was marked as "complimentary," which completely missed the point--it should never have been on the bill in the first place. What was even more frustrating was the lack of follow-up. I called on Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. and was told the manager would call me the next day. That call never came. I have consistently visited and recommended this restaurant over the years, so I was genuinely embarrassed that I suggested it to my friends. Unfortunately, this experience fell far below the standard I had come to expect, and the poor service was made even worse by the complete lack of customer follow-up. read more

Went to Stagehouse for a Sunday brunch @ 12:30 (about 1/2 way through their posted hours). We stayed about an hour. Food was okay, but about 1/3 of the dishes were empty/never refilled, which was disappointing. Service was quite bad. The first round, no one ever cleared our plates, we just ate with a pile of dirty plates on the table. (We eventually put them on a different table whose diners left.) The second round of plates were cleared. We saw our waitress twice -- once when she took the drinks orders (one oj, one coffee), once when she brought the drinks. She never stopped to offer refills on any drinks -- I had to get up & ask the bartender to refill my water. Oh, we did see her again when we waved her down for the check. Not a great place for brunch. (As an aside, it's too loud for regular conversation, but that's a minor point.) read more

Just returned from Easter Brunch at Stage House Tavern with my husband. There were only two of us. We had an 11:15 AM reserveration. The restaurant was not yet crowded, yet my husband and I were put essentially in an "alcove" seating area away from the main dining room. Absolutely no ambiance, right next to the beverage area where the servers gather and also where the high chairs and booster seats were stored. When I noted my displeasure, I was met with, "Sorry, we're really busy today and we can't seat you elsewhere." There were many other empty tables in the main dining room and also empty hightop tables in the bar area. The buffet food was overcooked and cold. The coffee tasted like it was made last night. Total of our bill was $157.00 (and we paid an additional 3% on top of this for credit card). Yes, we knew what it was a head, but they also added an automatic 20% tip and the bill still suggested that we give our server a tip, who we had to follow up with for another cup of coffee, milk and water. Extremely disappointed. We won't be coming back here for a holiday meal. read more

A fun place to meet up with friends for good pours and yummy food. Met up with some friends and found parking to new a breeze. They have a parking lot in the back and have entrance there; easy access to and from parking. We came in a rainy day so it was greatly appreciated that we didn't have to walk all the way to the front. Upon entering, you'll see plenty of tables and a ginormous tree worth beautiful lights adorning it. It's truly a sight to behold. . We ordered plenty of drinks and appetizers. All were great. My only comment is for the waiter. Hard to get his attention because he was so busy. We had too many plates and empty cups. We figured as he came back with our drinks, he'd clear the table off. Nachos were soggy and cold. salads wilted and nothing for the kids to pick on like a bread basket . The entrees were awful. The management explained are using a new computer system. We were understanding but no one was thrilled with the food. Went back a month later just my husband and I to order a bar pie and a couple of beers. Took 15 min for the beers and 40 minutes for the pizza without apologies. The waiter only apologized when we reminded him that we were waiting so long. He said they are under a new computer system.By the time the pizza came we needed to leave to be on our way somewhere. The $18,00 pie was the size and quality of a frozen Celeste pizza. Awful awful experience. Ordered oysters here only to find live critters in my food. Manager did not even come over to apologize or anything whatsoever (and I promise you, I worked as a waiter at multiple restaurants, was not looking to have my food comped or anything). But that is pathetic to not even check in if your guests are served food with BUGS in it. Not to mentioned the check was labeled "customer didn't like the food". Oh sorry, I guess I don't like living things crawling in my appitizer, sorry!! Also, the +$25 penne dish the waitress recommended was absolutely terrible too and priced at nearly $30 mind you. I've gotten better from local italian spots for maybe $15 tops, never mind at a pretentiously awful "restaurant" like this place. If you can help it, avoid this place like the plague. The insult was the automatic 20% gratuity added onto a party of 3 because it was a holiday. We are good tippers we usually do 30% but was thankful we looked or we would have tipped double. I have two recent visits I can review. First, we were here New Year's Eve, just me and my husband- no reservations. They had specials but you could also order from the regular menu. I had one of the specials, sea bass that came with mashed potatoes and grilled zucchini in Romesco sauce. It was DELICIOUS. I wasn't planning to complain, but when the waitress asked how everything came out, I did tell her the potatoes were cold. She immediately brought me a fresh serving. The special came with champagne and a chocolate covered strawberry. It was not priced any higher than a typical entree which was nice. My husband had the homemade eggplant ravioli (which we've had before) They have a variety of ravioli types and you can pick one of about 6 or 7 different sauces. Tonight we are here with my parents and my sister and her husband. Everyone marveled at the large menu, the variety and the reasonable prices. My dad ordered pizza expecting a bar pie. It was about the size of a medium pizza and would easily feed two. My mom and sister had the bacon, fig and Brie burger, but my sister substituted grilled chicken which was a nice option to have. She asked about the kind of fries they have and the waiter brought us a sample basket of fries. My husband had the vegetable sandwich. My brother in law and I had entrees. He had the pork chop and loved it. I had the Parmesan crusted salmon. Everyone was happy and almost all of us went home with leftovers. They also brought us a basket of biscuits with apple butter. I have nothing negative to say about the food. If I have to find one drawback, however minor, it is very loud. read more

Stage House Tavern is my favorite restaurant/bar to go to after work with coworkers or friends. I usually sit at the bar & the service is always pretty good. I have tried quite a few menu items but my go to's are the spinach & mushroom ravioli & buffalo chicken wings. They have live music on Saturday nights. The lineup is usually listed on their website if you ever want to know before you go. I have planned numerous large events at Stage House as well as ordered catering for offsite events. I would highly recommend planning an event there. (Danielle, the catering & banquet manager is amazing to work with). If you're in the area, Stage House is worth checking out! read more

I'm here with a party of 11 right now. We got here at 8:30 pm. It's now 10:18 pm. We only saw our waitress once, order came 20 minutes later missing some of our tables food, and since she only came to us once some of us wanted another drink and since we didn't see her over an hour we decided to not bother. One of us had to get the manager too to get that rest of our order. It's not even busy. We're outside and there are maybe 12 tables with people and we've seen other servers bring attentive to them. I come here a lot and I'm very disappointed. We also have kids with us and this is made a very poor experience. Unreal as I write this my wife has to go find someone so we can pay. And of course due to a large party our tip is going to be included but for what? She took our order never to be seen again. I usually don't write these but curious to see if Stagehouse looks at these and to warn others. read more

Wow, just read a review that this place is horrendous. I totally disagree. I go there at least 3 times a week. Yes, there are days that it gets so busy that the service can be a little slower, but I have never had an issue with the food, and the happy hour drinks are crazy good. I had their chicken parm the other day and had to take it home because I couldn't finish it. As with everything in this economy we have to adjust our expectations just a little with lack of staff and rising costs of everything. I took my granddaughter to the Bluey Brunch, very cute. The vibe was nice a lot of families, she received a Bluey gift bag and saw Bluey. The server was good, the brunch choices were good the usual fare. However there were no complementary drinks, all beverages were separate, also the tip was added in to the bill. I had planned to tip the server cash, so the server lost out. Also, I did not read anywhere the tip/gratuity would be added to the bill. I understand people under tipping or not tipping, however I should be able to choose how to tip. . Also, 3.50 for a glass of milk, it is not wine, a half gallon of milk is under 3 dollars. I stopped here for lunch while in the area. They have not done much over the years to update the decor and it has an old time country vibe to it. I noticed a few group holiday lunches but otherwise not very busy. The service was very good "thank you Christian". As for the menu I felt it was a bit pricey for the area but it did have many options. They also had a special lunch offer of Starter and entrée for $19.99. This did not include bread with your meal and soft drinks were not included. Overall the onion soup was good and the homemade ravioli was ok ( it needed a bit longer boil). Came in with a group of 8 on Father's Day around 6p. We were able to make reservations online so we had no problem getting a table right away. They have a large parking lot so we had no problem finding parking as well. We ordered Fried Calamari and Oysters as appetizers. They were as you would expect. For my main course, I ordered the Blackened Salmon. The dish came with roasted fingerling potatoes, lime crema, pineapple pico, and salsa verde. The salmon was a little dry but the sauces mentioned before made up for the dryness. I also ordered the Kona Big Wave but it tasted flat. I've read so many great reviews so maybe I'll give this place a try again? read more

The place has promise. Very large bar that was packed on Friday night. Bartenders were efficient. They had about a dozen beers on tap. We ordered mahi mahi tacos and nachos with chicken. The tacs were good! The nachos just OK. The sauce on the chicken made mot of the nachos soggy. The price was a little more than comparable places in the area but the menu was pretty extensive. We came for the St Patties Day celebration and it was an amazing experience! You can make a reservation in advance which is a huge plus, since a place like this is sure to be crowded on St Patties. They had a buffet with so much Irish food like shepards pie, bangers and mash and beef stew. The buffet was massive and had a ton of other options like an omelette and potato pancake bar, a kids corner and an ice cream bar. I'm skeptical about buffets, but everything was actually incredible. My 10 month old was obsessed with the shepards pie! There was amazing live music (both inside and outside), cute decor and some fun touches for kids like a face painter. All of the staff was super friendly and went out of their way to make sure that we were accommodated. We were dining with five under five, so this was super appreciated. I'll definitely be back again for St Patties, but will hopefully be in sooner. Especially during warm weather, because their outdoor dining section is massive. There's a ton of space for kids to run around and a lot of kid friendly eats, so it's a great place to bring everyone. We loved it! read more

I know prices of all restaurants have increased but honestly guys I don't know what you think you're doing. I live in Princeton and the prices are not even this high there for comparable food. . A chicken quesadilla for $20? A bowl of soup for $15? Two chicken skewers for $28? At the beginning of the summer they had a special of a crab cluster for $20 or get two for $30. A few weeks later it's already up to 25 and $40. If an owner or manager is reading this, you need to seriously do something. I dine out frequently and I can afford it but I'm not stupid.!! read more
