Signature fall pumpkin arugula salad with tuna tower and salmon added

Chose to eat here since it's convenient, has private parking, and my friends have a connection with the owner. Got there early and the host was very friendly. Enjoyed the conversation and being able to sit while waiting for my guests. The restaurant wasn't crowded, and was less than 10% capacity the entire 3 hours I was there. The waitress may've been new as she had to read the specials, and ran through them quickly. Since my friends were already familiar with what they ordered, I had to ask a few questions but the waitress didn't seem as knowledgeable on the menu. The food was delicious and probably the best seared salmon I've ever had on a salad! I appreciated the crunch texture but soft and juicy rare inside. Most restaurants will over cook and make it dry. The charred octopus appetizer was also delicious and much better than most with a generous proportion. The only issue I experienced was the waitress disappeared. We had to repeatedly flag someone down to refill our waters. And decided not to refill our drinks since we didn't know how long it would take. We eventually had to request our check from the host. Most of the patrons were at the bar so I'm surprised that the service was so lacking. But I suppose liquor is where the profits may be. Still, with the dining room so empty, I would have thought that the service would be better.

The stately old Metuchen Inn welcomed our eager party with amber incandescence on a dark and damp Friday evening, and we were efficiently shuttled to our table. A very good first sign: our server didn't bat an eyelash at my asking for our Tanqueray Martinis up with olives, mixed at a six-to-one ratio. The drinks were stellar; while Rhonda and I have taken to sipping a Manhattan preprandial, we still enjoy a Martini as a treat at a nice restaurant. Another encouraging sign: having a hard time picking out an appetizer. I was very close to ordering the Blue Point oysters on the half shell, wrestled with the mussels, but settled upon the clams with chorizo and black beans. I think there's something about a clam I'll always prefer to an oyster or a mussel, although in the former case, it's a culinary crime to say so. I love the assertive brine of a clam, on the half shell or steamed. These littlenecks were steamed to perfection, with a tasteful appointment of firm black beans and small chunks of dried chorizo. Gilding shellfish with a greasy, smoky sausage is always a pro move. Rhonda tried the lobster bisque, a dish she favors quite possibly due to serially excellent executions of the corn and crab chowder at the Knife and Fork. It was perfectly viscous, avoiding the gloopy texture you'll find at a lesser establishment, and redolent of shellfish roasted into the stock. Aaron tried the charred octopus, which I am always tempted by, but often avoid, having watched a lot of YouTube videos demonstrating how much smarter octopi are than, say, me. I tried a bite, and it was pleasingly soft, with a nice smoky chair. For entrees, I went with the sea bass after wrestling with the wild boar tenderloin. Wild boar and I have a history: on our trip in 2000 to Sienna, Italy, wild board ragù was on every menu, often served with pici pasta, a long tubular noodle expressly designed for soaking up condimento. I recently found boar on a local eatery's menu, but it had sold out before I could order the dish. I was similarly tempted by the pork osso bucco and the venison tenderloin; there is something about a chilly fall night that invites a curated meat dish, especially game. But I had sucked down my share of wine that afternoon, and future meals loomed in the horizon, so I went with the special. This was a spectacular dish: perfectly crisp skin, tender, flaky flesh, all piled atop cherry tomatoes and asparagus. Not a carb in sight. It's the kind of dish you can eat and lick clean and not feel bad about it. Rhonda went for the lamb chops, which looked fabulous. Aaron, my adventurous counterpart in all things culinary, waited to hear what I ordered before pulling the trigger on the boar. Plated tastefully around a mound of mashed sweet potatoes and a pile of asparagus, it was a sous vide masterpiece, cooked to a perfect medium rare. The service was attentive and brisk, with impeccable pacing. This all fell apart once dessert was ordered; it took a long time to come out, and we had to flag down a server to bring us our check. It had been a long day of driving, and we were keen to get back to the room for some rest. And maybe some more wine. I would go back in a heartbeat. It is, to my taste, the perfect spot to celebrate with the ones you cherish the most on a chilly night. Or any night, I imagine.

After almost 20 years of living in Metuchen, I finally got to visit Metuchen Inn and wasn't disappointed! A few co-workers and I went for a holiday lunch and ordered a range of items. A complementary roll, hummus, EVOO, and radishes came out first which were tasty. We tried the calamari and meatballs which I thought were very good. The meatballs fell apart easily and had great flavor, as well as came with polenta which I've never tried but enjoyed. The calamari was good, but the combination of that and the orzo they had underneath made it particularly delicious. I ordered the wild mushroom fettuccine, and my co-workers ordered a variety of pasta dishes and salads which they all mostly enjoyed. The mushroom fettuccine was a 3.5/5, pretty good overall but not sure I'd order it again. I enjoyed my co-workers sausage and broccoli rabe pasta more. We also ordered creme brûlée and cheesecake, both of which are amazing. The prices and the service were great, and the restaurant was clean and felt very homey. I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for a cozy night out. I'll definitely be back!

I'm not sure why this restaurant has the low ratings it does because the food here is divine! It's a little house looking place with a full bar and prompt service. We were attended right away and the service was great throughout our dinner. The food came out quick and the presentation was great. Overall the best thing was the taste. SO GOOD. The meatball appetizer was my favorite. The best meatballs I've ever had. So soft and flavorful. Honestly wish there were more than two. I would def come back.

The ambiance was a cute quaint place. Nice mix between classic, jazz, and ratatouille kind of music. The service was good everything you expect from an upscale restaurant. The food was good. It didn't amaze me and it's a bit pricey for what you get but it is a nice dinner spot where everything is pretty good. I would say everything is average to pretty good. Nothing spectacular though.

Beautifully decorated restaurant with a cozy, intimate setting. No need to worry about street parking as they have their own parking lot. The restaurant was a lot more expansive than I thought and we were able to walk in on a Saturday night without a reservation (though I recommend making one to be safe). Service was friendly but it did take quite a while for our drinks to arrive, likely due to how busy they were. They start by providing fresh bread with a Mediterranean spread (hummus, olives and olive oil) which was nice. We got the crab cake as an appetizer and steak and branzino as our mains. The best part was actually the dessert- one of the best bread puddings we've ever had!

How does The Metuchen Inn not have a higher rating on Yelp?! First off, the renovated mid-1800s building is just beautiful with tasteful and soothing decor. I loved the huge fragrant bouquet of tropical flowers next to the reservations stand. I had made a reservation on the phone a few days ahead and got a text message to confirm. We were seated immediately upon arrival at the scheduled time. Our party of four enjoyed an excellent two hour complete dinner from appetizers and entrees to drinks and desserts. The standouts of everything we ordered were the two different fish entrees, Branzino and Halibut. The salad special was also particularly tasty and fresh. The only thing I would not recommend is the eggplant rollatini appetizer. I thought the tomato sauce was much too acidic and the cheese was not really flavorful. The person in our group who ate the Crabmeat Ravioli said it was bland and needed more salt and seasoning. Background music was familiar 60s and 70s hits by easy-listening groups like The Byrds; Peter, Paul and Mary; and CS&N. I have to acknowledge all the outstanding staff and especially our server Guillermo. He was exceptionally welcoming, helpful, and gracious. He and all the staff sang Happy Birthday to my Dad (82 years old!) and helped make my Dad's birthday dinner out a special experience. We had a great night. Thank you Metuchen Inn!

This cozy gem feels like stepping into a Hallmark movie inn--Charming and full of character. The food was excellent, and our server, Guillermo, provided exceptional service. The space is small, so it does get crowded, and parking can be a bit tricky, but the food makes up for it. A reservation is a must, as this spot is popular. Definitely recommend the Metuchen Inn for a romantic evening or special occasion--just be sure to plan ahead!

I went to a birthday party and had stuff mushroom and linguine and shrimp. The stuff mushrooms weee delicious. The sauce was perfectly seasoned. The stuffed mushrooms were tender. The linguine and shrimp was very good! The sauce needs more garlic and it was not salty! The linguine was past aldente but it was still good! Overall I had a great time at this place and would definitely eat here again!

what should've been a nice birthday dinner for my sister turned out to be a pure disaster. While Yvonne, our waitress was very good , that is where the good ended. I ordered the steak special, asked for it to be cooked medium rare. The left side of it was well done, and the right side was almost purple. It was very tough . The entire plate was room temperature. They took it away claiming they would make another steak. They brought back the same steak cooked even more . so completely well done. I finally settled on a salad with chicken in it . It was nothing special . My sister ordered the halibut special, which also arrived cold . After they reheated it , She proceeded to eat her dinner until she found a black hair on the fish. The waitress assured us that we would get a complementary dessert. When it came time for dessert, they offered one for the two of us. We asked to speak to the manager on duty who came over and tried to apologize. He assured us he would only be charging us for the fish, and the bottle of which would be $60. I let him know that we no intention of paying for fish that had hair in it. He asked us if the hair was from a man or a woman.? does that really matter? It was a black hair and we both have blonde hair so it certainly wasn't ours. In the end, I told him we would pay for the salad that I ate plus the bottle of water and nothing more. He did give us two desserts to take home, but what should've been a nice birthday dinner turned out to be a disaster. I have not been to this restaurant in many years and I have no intention of ever going back .

I am still disappointed by the lack of response from the corporate office on this matter, but the Edison location was extremely helpful in resolving my issue. Initial review: My wife and I have been going to True Food Kitchen for a while now, and really enjoy their healthy food options, but their recent lack of customer service is very disappointing. We recently purchased a gift card for True Food Kitchen but when we had problems with it, the local restaurant wasn't able to do anything. We reached out to the company they parner with for the gift cards, who told us to reach out to corporate. I left two voicemails with True Food corporate with no response, in addition to leaving email with no response either. I would appreciate it even if they couldn't do anything that they would at least get back to us and let us know that, but nothing. I commend True Food for offering such healthy eating options for people but without good customer service, I can't see it really lasting for long.

I recently tried the chef's 8-course tasting menu, and it was perfectly paced--the small plates are proportionately sized so you leave feeling satisfied rather than overwhelmed. Every dish is a standout with deep, "stacked" flavors; even the ingredients I was skeptical about ended up being favorites. Nothing needed a drop of extra seasoning. The service sets a warm, welcoming tone from the start. We were offered Oshibori (Japanese warm towelettes) to refresh our hands, and getting a fresh set of utensils with every course was a high-end touch I really appreciated. Menu Highlights: Taro Fritter: A sweet-textured appetizer inspired by Chinese desserts, topped with caviar and soy-pickled beets. It was a beautiful way to awaken the palate. Mackerel Crudo: As someone who isn't usually a fan of raw dishes, I was surprised by how much I loved this. It's light, perfectly acidic, and balanced with plum, ponzu, and apple. Grilled Sunchoke: This was "rustic elegance" in a bowl. The smell alone is incredible, and the combination of ginger crab and shellfish butter is pure comfort. Smoked Duck: Topped with black winter truffle and caramelized onions in a gochujang sauce--absolutely excellent cook and presentation. Braised Beef Cheek: So tender you can skip the knife and just use your fork. Since I forgot to BYOB, I tried their house-made Luck & Love hibiscus drink. It's hands-down the best hibiscus tea I've ever had--I actually tried to buy one to-go, but they only make enough for dine-in guests! It's a fantastic spot to bring friends or loved ones, though I'd recommend arriving early. The parking lot is extremely tight, so you might need to look for space in the lot next door.

From what I've heard, it usually gets packed during peak sports seasons--but we happened to hit a lull (post-football, pre-baseball, and no major games on), so we basically had the place to ourselves. That actually worked in our favor--the quieter atmosphere made it easy to relax and enjoy conversation without the usual sports bar chaos. Drinks were a highlight. I went with the sangria, which was refreshing and well-balanced. Instead of ordering full entrees, we decided to share a bunch of appetizers. Everything that came out looked great, and everyone in the group seemed really happy with the flavors. As someone with a gluten allergy, though, I was pretty limited in what I could order. The ribs ended up being one of my only real options--but thankfully, they were tender, flavorful, and definitely the standout for me. Still, I do wish there were more gluten-free choices, especially since we were there to celebrate and share food. One thing that stood out (in a not-so-great way) was that we felt a bit rushed toward the end of the meal. We didn't even get the chance to order a birthday dessert, which was disappointing given the occasion, but seeing since it was only our group there I'm sure they were ready to close and go home. Service overall was attentive and friendly while we were dining, so no complaints there otherwise. It was winter when we visited, but I can see this being a great spot in warmer months--the outdoor seating looks like it would really add to the experience. Parking was easy on a Sunday night, and they do have a lot, but make sure to read the signs carefully since some spots are reserved for the theater next door. Overall it has a great vibe, solid drinks, and food that people clearly enjoy--I just wish there were more gluten-free options so I didn't leave still a little hungry.

It has a nice, elevated atmosphere, so you should dress semi-formal. Prices are on par with other upscale restaurants. The food has always been excellent and the service as well, most of the time. You absolutely MUST get the Clothesline Bacon as an appetizer. Make sure you slice some pickle with it and squeeze a little lemon juice on top! The manager urged us to try it that way during one of our visits - we never looked back. Rather than eating in the dining area, we chose to sit at the bar for their Foxy Hour (Happy Hour) offerings. There are plenty of tables surrounding the bar as well. We had the Clothesline Bacon, 6 Oysters, Hipster Fries, Spicy Lobster Mac, and we each got the happy hour burger. Everything tasted great, but the hipster fries were a little greasy and lacked the shishito peppers they had last time. We finished off with the Eclair Trio dessert from the Specials Menu. On two separate occasions we were seated at an awkward table in the back of the restaurant, right near the kitchen service area and door to the outside patio. We weren't thrilled to be there, as there was constant traffic in and out of the kitchen and through the doors. I think they should just do away with those seats, so everyone can have a relaxing dining experience no matter where they're sat. If you've got a special occasion coming it, Orchard Park is worth checking out!

Whether it's at the bar or a table outside try to make a reservation to secure your seat. One of the times I went was on a Wednesday and the place was packed our wait was about 20 mins and it was well worth it. The menu changes daily so don't go back expecting to get the same thing you ordered the last time. To be quite honest of all the items I ordered two did not stand out although sounding promising The lobster roll, the bread was mediocre and the filling was scarce. The pizzette was also ehhh. Nothing impressionable. However the oysters, fully dressed and ready for consumption were pops of freshness and flavorful jellies exploding in your mouth. The corn was a nice touch. The mussels were in this sauce that was to die for. Full of garlic and creaminess paired with about 3 slices of sourdough bread perfect for soaking. The crostini appetizer, drooling thinking about it. Prosciutto with honey and mozzarella is the best combination.now for the chicken Milanese. Perfectly crisp with tomatoes I'm not sure what they put in the salad but delicious! Overall it's worth a happy hour with great deals. And even the dinner entrees are worth the visit. Third time back will be soon.

A few logistical tips: while there is street parking, a public lot is conveniently located right across the street. The dining room is quite intimate with only about ten tables, and since they don't seem to take reservations, I recommend arriving early or being prepared for a wait. If you don't want to wait, they do offer takeout! Another suggestion is to browse their menu online before you arrive, the selection is extensive! We showed up without a game plan and needed several minutes just to decide because there were so many tempting choices! Luckily, our waiter was incredibly patient and helpful, answering every question we had. Once we decided, the real fun began. Every single item, and I'm not exaggerating, was phenomenal! We started with the fresh squeezed orange juice, which was sweet and perfectly portioned, along with a vanilla latte and a cappuccino. Both were classic, rich, and creamy. For the main course, we chose the "Chill + Qill It" Chilaquiles, which featured traditional corn tortillas topped with cotija cheese, avocado, pink sour cream, eggs, and your choice of protein. We also tried the Parkside Classic Sliders; the chicken was exceptionally crispy yet tender and juicy, served with eggs on a brioche bun. We opted to upgrade to the truffle fries, which were delicious! Although our sliders accidentally came with pickles, the staff was so kind and immediately offered to remake the dish or swap out the bun. Finally, we had the Grilled Chicken Egg Ranchero. It was like a breakfast version of nachos, loaded with beans, peppers, onions, an egg, those same crispy tortillas, and more of that signature pink cream! We couldn't leave without satisfying our sweet tooth, so we finished with the Cinnamon Roll French Toast. It tasted exactly like a fresh cinnamon roll, the glaze was incredible, and the bread was perfectly crisp on the outside while remaining fluffy inside. I honestly cannot wait to go back and work my way through the rest of the kitchen's creations. This restaurant is a absolute must-visit for their unique combinations and superb flavors!

Took 30 mins to get our appetizer, another 20 minutes to order our meals and then another 30 mins to get our food (no I'm not exaggerating it was a near 2 hour experience). Food was good, but when it got to us it wasn't hot and could tell it sitting under a heat lamp for a while. 2 tables got there after us and left before us. Understaffed and/or untrained. I'm really not one to leave a bad review anywhere, but this was just crazy. I really hope we were there on an off day because the place is cool and food was decent, but we just had an awful experience.
