The food was excellent for all of our birthday celebration. We made reservations for another local restaurant but they had no record. We called and were able to secure a table for 5. Our server Leslie/Amanda, was amazing, friendly, and very efficient. The appetizers were amazing. Calamari in a basil sweet and spicy dressing, shrimp w/ garlic, and a small pizza, bar style. The dinners were also delicious and huge portions., Veal Saltambucco, short rib paparedelle, seafood w/ linguini, risotto w/ seafood, and lobster ravioli. All entrees were amazing and very generous portions. We sat in a rear dining area that was filled with diners that were enjoying the atmosphere and the company of friends and great food. I was so excited to come here for a small Christmas party. There is a nice amount of parking in the back of the building and you are able to enter from there as well which is very convenient especially in the winter chill. The dining rooms have a nice amount of space so you don't feel cramped and on top of one another. Very traditional Italian restaurant in looks. There were a few challenges with getting a wrong dish and having an extra dessert on the bill. When the extra item was found on the bill there was a bit of a dispute and back and forth but they fixed it in the end. The wrong dish was a compromise on our party's part, one of our friends accepted the plate even though it was not what she ordered, there was no move to fix it on the restaurant's part. As far as the food, it was not my top Italian choice in the area, especially when factoring in price. Villa Gennaro is an excellent spot for dinner. It is a medium sized restaurant but can feel small. I enjoyed the somewhat open kitchen concept and the speedy service. Came here because my husband and I were in the mood for Italian. We were seated right away and our waitress Kyara was awesome! We started with the special calamari and a salad. One of the best Italian places I have visited recently. It's a family owned restaurant that has been around for years. The ambiance on the inside is alright but outdoor seating looks very beautiful. Too bad they don't heaters on the outside. Also this place is BYOB! So definitely take your favorite wine to pair with the food. BYOB pizzeria that works to be an eat-in Italian restaurant. The layout is odd with both a back parking lot entrance and a street entrance. No real hostess station so you'll feel awkward walking in and looking for a seat. The staff was friendly and accommodating once I figured out what to do. Food was ok. It wasn't the best I ever had but it was decent enough. I opted for the chicken parm with pasta. Chicken was over cooked but the breading and sauce was good. Pasta was undercooked. Bread tasted a little stale and for an Italian place I expected some oil and seasoning for it. I wouldn't go out of my way to return and would possibly just try to order out a pizza next time. We held a baby shower for my sister and it was a beautiful space with incredible food. The banquet room was its own private area downstairs complete with a foyer to welcome guests in. For the 3 months prior to the event, I was mostly coordinating with the manager Tyler who was helpful and accommodating in every way. He allowed us to come in the night before to set up some of the more complicated decorations and indulged some of our other requests like extra tables for the displays. Overall, planning the event to be held at the restaurant went smoothly. The day of the actual event however was a bit different. The owner of the restaurant was assigned help our party and we felt a little less than welcome. She told us there was another event following ours so we needed to leave immediately as soon as our event was over. Of course we agreed but that sort of set the tone for how she treated us the rest of the day. She was frantic, stressed, concerned we hadnt started on time (we were a few minutes late because some guests as well as the parents-to-be were stuck in traffic). Her frustrations were evident even to our guests which affected the atmosphere at times and made us feel like an inconvenience for holding our event. I'd apologize every time she expressed her concerns and was always showering her with thank you's for her patience, despite the visible lack of it. Other than her service, my experience having the event at the restaurant was lovely. The guests raved about the food and everything offered to our party. We went for the second buffet package which came with plenty of food for our about 40 guests. It even came with coffee and desserts after the meals were served which a lot of people loved. We ended our party early to make time for cleaning, at which point the owner had essentially told us we needed to leave after we had cleaned our share of the event. I could've done without the stress, as I'm sure the owner would have too. So I'd still love to come back to this place for the food and event space alone, despite the owner's attitude. 5 stars regardless. Maybe I'll plan my activity earlier next time. read more

Have been therefor lunch with the guys for years. The pizza and sandwich selection is great and price is reasonable. If you want a personal pizza it's not too big that you can't eat the whole. Staff is very friendly. Restaurant is large enough to for large groups on just a few friends. They have a downstairs room for larger parties. I haven't ever eaten down there so I can't comment on it. I have had dinner there with my kids and granddaughters. Everyone always find something they like. As I recall they do have specials every night and kids have enjoyed them. read more

Caveat Emptor, yes buyer beware! After reading the recent yelp review about excessive fees at this establishment, I was careful to review the bill. Three couples met there as a recommended restaurant. The total bill was $272.73. Included in this total was a $7.44 charge for a non-cash transaction. We paid CASH!! After my wife photographed the attached receipt, I scratched out the total and added the corrected. What makes matters even worse, I looked for notices that the use of credit cards would be sur-charged. There was nothing in the restaurant, on their doors, on their menus or on their website. This is a violation of the New Jersey statute #N.J.S.A. 56:8-25 under the Division of Consumer Affairs. $7.44 may seem like a small amount when compared to a total bill of $265.29, but this process is systemic, and every bill would contain the assumption of credit card use and could amount to thousands of dollars. As for the food, it ranged OK to Good. All the women thought it was good and the men thought it was OK. Now that I am armed with the knowledge of how this place operates, I will go back only if I'm asked, but not of my own volition. read more

My Overall rating is 2.5 (not 3) stars for the following reasons; Pros - food was decent but not awesome - portions were decent but not large - service was acceptable Cons: - over average priced entrees and appetizers ($15 - $30 per) - staff state the specials but don't tell you the price unless you ask - venue automatically charges 20% tip (IMHO - tip % should be reserved for customers to assess & give based on services provided vs automatically being added on) - venue auto charges 3% fee for credit card usage (I find this type of fee to be completely unacceptable for any venue to charge) - venue was packed without any real regard for covid related social distancing, staff wearing masks, vaccination checks, etc. Not fully convinced to go back to this place due to price points (ie limited value for money), and the 20% and 3% charges respectively. read more

Went here for lunch with a party of 4 . Food was ok however we watched the pizza boy spit two times next to the oven as he was putting a pizza in oven we are assuming there was a trash can there still makes no difference . Then he was on his phone constantly while looking at his phone he had his finger in his mouth! Never once did he wash his hands. Hidden gem for local Italian eats. Decided to give it a try though there were mixed reviews. I was not disappointed! The dining area is cozy and service is quick. It wasn't bad, but nothing out of the ordinary. 3.5/5 We then ordered a margarita pizza. It is good for one person. Or two people if they're not that hungry and they also get a appetizer. But for a proper Italian restaurant Pizza was way overdone. Maybe we will try the other pizza next time but definitely not the margarita pizza. 1/5 Then we got the mushroom ravioli. This was actually really good and would definitely get it again but it is quite creamy. 4/5 For dessert we got the tiramisu and honestly it was one of the best ones we've had. It was perfect in terms of the ratio of coffee and sweetness and the whip cream that came with complemented the tiramisu perfectly. We will definitely be back for dessert itself. Cozy and casual restaurant serving delicious classic Italian dishes and brick oven pizza. At first I thought it was strange entering the restaurant from the back of the building, but I guess it makes sense with the parking lot also being in the back. Just walk towards the middle of the dining area and someone will help seat you. My family and I decided to share four dishes family style: -Roasted Pepper Parpardelle: recommended by our waitress and our favorite dish of the night. This was a shrimp and scallop pasta in a creamy tomato garlic sauce. -De Gennaro pizza: personal sized thin crust pizza with sweet tomato sauce, prosciutto, and arugula. Loved the light tomato base on it! -Red Snapper Marechiara: red snapper with mussels, clams, and shrimp and a side of spinach. The cut of fish was a bit tough (tasted slightly overcooked) and bland, but the tomato broth definitely helped the dish. -Braised Short Rib: fall-off-the-bone short ribs. So juicy and tender! It also came with a simple risotto on the side that helped soak up all the flavors. We also ordered cappucinos and a tiramisu to finish off the meal, and both were lovely treats. Portion sizes here are HUGE. Di Fungi Risotto ($19, porcini & shiitake mushrooms in a brown sauce) is super good. Eggplant Parmigiana ($23, baked with mozzarella & marinara sauce, served over linguini) was okay. It was just super soggy even though my friend and I ate it as soon as we got it. Would definitely be back to get the risotto. They also have a bunch of cakes here and there's a ton of seating. We ordered the white pizza, eggplant parm pizza, and margarita pizza (large size for all). All were delicious but our favorite was the white pizza! The eggplant parm pizza has fried pieces of eggplant which are very good! And the margarita is just a classic! Can't wait to try more pies. The service was fine. The servers were very attentive. The place is still nice. The food used to be better. Ordered the snapper special and it was overcooked. The pizza and pastas used to be better. Our favorite thing was the bruschetta appetizer. My wife's lamb chops were not cooked to the right temperature at first. She asked for medium and it came out rare and cold. It was refired and cooked perfectly. The desserts used to be much better. This was one of our favorite places before but something is off. Hope they'll fix it. read more
