Spectacular restaurant! We were 30 minutes delayed to our reservation and the host accommodated us without a peep. I was so grateful and impressed by the fabulous customer service. The waiter was equally as considerate when we had to wait another 15 minutes for our guest to arrive. Kicked off the night with a delectable Bloody Mary that only rang up to $8- those are happy hour prices anywhere else, but regular price here. Amazing! Enjoyed a tasty kale Caesar salad with chicken - portions are massive. Still have some for tomorrow's lunch! The rice balls as an appetizer were tasty, but a bit on the smaller side. I'm used to larger rice balls, so this caught me slightly off guard. The design of the establishment is chic, with more on the second floor. At about 8 pm they started playing club music (not overly loudly). So fun! Definitely will be back due to the pleasant experience. read more

We were in Metuchen last week for a street fair and saw this place when leaving, so we decided to give it a try tonight. First, it is VERY loud in the restaurant, hard to have a conversation without talking very loud. While the service people were very nice, the service was so - so. They took about 20 minutes to come over, we ordered cocktails and an pasta as an appetizer. It took about 20 mins for them to bring bread after we ordered. Then the cocktails and app came out immediately after. Cocktails are meant to be enjoyed before your dinner, not during it. While the cocktail was fine, I wasn't interest in having it at this point. I had a couple of sips. The bread they brought out was fantastic. One of the best breads ever. The pasta was amazing. I really enjoyed it. We had the buccatini with guaclian (sp?). So I really looking forward to the Pizza. We put in the order for our pizza, went to the men's room and when I came back the pizza was on our table. Very strange it was so fast in less than 5 minutes. I am sorry to say the pizza was horrible. Soggy crust and dry pizza, not sure how that is even possible. Crust and pizza in general had no taste. I had this strange feeling the pizza might be premade and maybe they just add the topping for your order I don't know. Overall, it was very much a tale of 2 cities. Iffy service and horrid pizza. Very excited about my visit here while staying in Woodbridge at the Residence Inn. Arrived just past happy hour (darn!) which ended at 5pm. Impressive discounts on food and beverages....next time! It wasn't busy so I was quickly seated. Fresh house made sourdough bread was delivered and delicious. The red sangria was a yummy blend and was a nice touch with my vegan pie. I ordered the pizza sans cheese and really enjoyed the eggplant, garlic, basil toppings. The house salad was a nice size and the fried onion topping added a flavorful crunch. I didn't care for the dressing though. Service was prompt and friendly, my water glass was never empty. Deducted a star as my cocktail, salad , and pizza all arrived at the same time which is a pet peeve. The server took the salad back but it was not refrigerated so she redelivery a room temp salad, blah. Sweet server just needs more training on timing. Or maybe that is the norm there. Next time, I will order 1 step at a time to avoid that issue. Private parking with an upper and lower area which was a bit confusing, will know for my next visit. I've been to this restaurant several times with family and friends for brunch & lunch, and have held one family event here with about 15 attendees. The pros: Consistently good food and good drinks, a varied menu, a quieter top floor, this place has its own parking lot (rare in Metuchen) and there is street parking if the lot gets full, nice decor, nice vibe, and the type of place where you can meet up with girlfriends or hold a business lunch. The Peppa Pig is a fun take on a meat lovers pizza and loaded with soppressata, pepperoni, sausage, and bacon marmalade, with peppadew peppers adding a nice pop. My husband brought me here for Valentine's Day, and I'm absolutely obsessed! The restaurant has a parking lot and plenty of seating, which made everything so convenient. Their menu is full of must try dishes, and everything we had was incredible. It felt like each item outdid the last. My husband really nailed it picking this place! Had such a good time here! Went for happy hour with a friend and we were pleasantly surprised at how gorgeous the restaurant itself was. We sat upstairs and got a nice view and then ordered two pizzas (happy hour deals are great). They make all their bread in house and all their food is customizable and dietary restrictions friendly. I ordered a grandma pizza and my friend got the pizza barese. Mine was great, I finished the whole thing and my friend liked hers although found the broccoli Rabe a bit too bitter for her I also wanted to highlight how amazing the staff was - as we were leaving my friend forgot her leftovers on the table and we only realized when we reached the parking lot. Food is consistently delicious and I would highly recommend their appetizers especially the honey glazed brussels sprouts and Caesar kale salad mixed with roma tomatoes that come with an extra punch. Their best bar drink is a spicy cucumber margarita which consistently hammers home a kick that stays on your pallet for long. We made brunch reservation on a Saturday just in case it got busy. I was really excited to try their pizza as not many places have prosciutto pies. This restaurant is the perfect place to catch up with your girls and be casual but still want to look cute. I can also see it being a perfect spot for happy hour after work. It had a nice bar area where you could sit and watch the games playing on tv. It is a super spacious restaurant and it is nice inside. The service was fantastic from the hostess and our waiter was great. That alone definitely makes me want to go back. All the staff were super friendly which I can appreciate. As for the food, it was pretty good. I will say that the menu isn't super big which is good because sometimes big menus can be overwhelming. All the dishes we ate were delicious and enjoyable. I definitely recommend the maple wings as an appetizer and we also got the grandma pizza for the table. For my meal I got the Bibb Salad and it was super refreshing so I also recommend that as well. The main dining room has a center bar area a two store high ceiling and modern looking. It has a great feel to it. The table at which we were seated was a bit small for five, and the chairs were a bit uncomfortable. We did a round of cocktails and they were on the sweeter side from what we were used to - a bit heavy on the simple syrup and they took a bit too long to be delivered to the table after ordering. Switched to beer for the second round of drinks. Ordered some appetizers. The bread itself in each application was fantastic - very rustic and artisan with a nice color from the wood oven. We ordered three pizzas to share and try. They were on the small side for the price, and were (especially compared to the bread) a bit underwhelming. The pizza crust was good, sauce and toppings meh. By the time the pizza came out, the service dropped off and our server was absent for long periods of time. It got busier I guess? Not bad overall but not great. They do appear to have good happy hour deals price-wise weekdays between 3pm and 6pm. Have to give that a try sometime. read more

We ate on the main level overseeing the parking lot which was great as the day was very sunny. Tyler was our server and he was Amazing!! I just felt that some of the crostini toppings were a little salty. The bread (sourdough, I believe) was delicious! Warm and freshly baked. Yum. For our main entree, we both settled on the half portion of gnocchi which was some of the best that I've tasted! Side kale salad which was tasty as well. I would never return. The service was terrible from start to finish. They brought out the appetizers and entrées at the same time, leaving our table completely overcrowded with plates. To make matters worse, a server took away one of the pizza trays while my dad was still actively eating from it--I'm not exaggerating. My family and I have been coming to Wood Stack Pizza Oven in Metuchen for years, and we've always enjoyed the food. That's why our experience last weekend was so disappointing. My brother ordered the Norma Rigatoni and bit into what appeared to be a rock measuring at least 3 mm. He was genuinely concerned that he may have chipped his tooth. We politely brought it to the manager's attention, who took it back to the chef. We were then told it was "charcoal." Regardless of what it was, it was a hard, inedible object that had no place in the pasta and posed a real risk of dental injury or even gastrointestinal harm if swallowed. At that point, my brother no longer felt comfortable eating the dish, and approximately two-thirds of the pasta remained untouched because he was worried there could be additional hard fragments in it. What was most disappointing was the response. When we asked for the check, the pasta was still included on the bill. As a physician, I understand that mistakes happen in any restaurant, and I don't expect perfection. However, when a customer finds an inedible object in their food that could have caused injury, I would expect the situation to be handled with greater concern and better customer service. We were not looking for free food--we simply expected the issue to be acknowledged appropriately. Unfortunately, the lack of accountability and customer care left a bad taste in our mouths. Because of how this situation was handled, we will not be returning. I would also encourage others to inspect their food carefully if they dine here, regardless of whether these hard objects are considered "charcoal" or something else. read more

A larger establishment for Metuchen, Wood Stack has a good amount of seating without feeling cramped (I still highly recommend a reservation, especially on the weekend). It has an outdoorsy upscale vibe, like eating at a restaurant in a posh town located in the mountains. The bread and pasta are made onsite and you can definitely tell, it's fresh, doughy, and the pasta is perfectly toothsome. I've been here a few times and I love the Rigatoni Norma and recently tried the Strozzpreti which was divine. I also enjoy their kale salad, and this past visit we had the rice balls to share which were the perfect size for an appetizer and full of flavor and texture. For an appetizer we shared the maple chilli wings. They were super fresh and steaming when we got them. I loved the flavor of the sauce. It was cooked really well. For my entree, I got the peppa pig pizza. Its essentially an elevated meat lover's pizza. The bacon marmalade gives it a nice subtle sweetness that cuts the saltiness of the different meat toppings.
