Always a great place to stop by for a bite to eat and a drink. The staff is always extremely nice and pleasant and always makes you feel welcome. Came here on a Tuesday night for taco Tuesday. The place was empty. Maybe 4 people at the bar. We ordered a lot of food. We ordered chips and salsa. The salsa was very watery but ok. We ordered the blackened chicken tacos which were good and tasted fresh. We got black beans and cilantro rice as well. Everything needed a bit of salt but tasted good and fresh. What a fantastic first visit! The dimly lit bar area, decked out in Halloween decor, not sure if it's always this dark or if lights were dimmed to add to the Halloween vibe. WOW! I am so impressed from our visit at Elixir Bar & Grill. I randomly found this place scrolling on Apple Maps for a new restaurant to try for date night - and my partner and I were blown away. It has the coolest vibe. Definitely a sports bar ambiance, which we love. Our server was so friendly and checked up on us a lot during our time at the restaurant. We started with their Philly cheesesteak eggrolls which were PHENOMENAL! I ordered buffalo wings and loaded tater tots. The buffalo wings were a bit different in taste from what I'm used to - but I still enjoyed them. They were cooked to perfection. The loaded tater tots were amazing. They were crispy, and had the perfect combination of toppings. My partner ate a bacon cheeseburger which he enjoyed. We finished with a slice of their tres leches cake which was amazing. Great place to catch sport events as they have so many tvs and are very kind to change the channel if you have a preference on which game to watch. Came with a group of 5 and ordered appetizers and drinks. I ordered beer, they have a decent selection of beer. Loved that they had a DJ playing music during the football game commercials. Also love the pool table in the side room. Play a round of pool while enjoying the music/game. Lovely staff who are very attentive. Quesadillas were delicious. Delicious! The service was spotty, but the food was good nonetheless! They offer indoor and outdoor seating which is great during these crazy times. Reservations are requested but not required to get a table. It's sort of like a sports bar, so I'm sure it can get crazy in there during a major sports event. We went on a Saturday evening and it was about 30% full. The staff was friendly but a little bit slow. It took the waitress about 10 minutes or so to come take our order, which was odd because it wasn't busy. I asked for something that was clearly on the menu but was told by two staff members that it wasn't! We had to point it out to them which was also a little odd. The food made up for it ALL! The burrito I had was extremely satisfying and delicious! It was packed with so much goodness, and the flavors combined together made me forget all about the mediocre service! I bought a certificate for this restaurant on Local Flavor it was $15 for $30 of dining. I read all of the fine print and it was for dine in only so we headed over. I let the server know about the certificate and she told me they weren't accepting the certificates now but I could use it once they started serving food indoors again. I really wasn't happy about this and I wouldn't have purchased the certificate or visited the restaurant had I known this in advance. They should put this information under their fine print or stop selling the certificates until you're able to actually use them again. Anyway since we were already there we stayed and ate there anyway. We ordered a basket of chips and salsa to start and for entrees I ordered the Cubano Panini with onion rings and my husband ordered the Blackened Mango Catfish with coconut rice and mango salsa. While waiting on the entrees I asked for a refill on my iced tea but I was told they were out now so I got a soda instead. The entrees arrived shortly after. My husband enjoyed his fish, my panini was rather dry even with the mustard but the onion rings were delicious. The music they were playing was rather loud as well as were some of the patrons. Even being outside and sitting right next to each other it was rather hard to hear each other speak. I asked to have a box for my food and the check as I really didn't want to stick around. The server and other employees were nice it was just a strange atmosphere. Thankfully I was able to get a refund back on that Local Flavor certificate because I really don't see returning here. read more

A bunch of us came here to celebrate my daughter's birthday. This was a disappointing experience for a restaurant. The Staff: She seemed friendly but was not paying close attention to our orders. I asked for a coke before we placed any of our entrée orders and did not receive it. I asked for a coke again before we got our check and she still did not get me a coke. Tex Mex Nachos: We told the waitress to please have them put the beans on the side and she did not do so. The beans were on top of the nachos which made it taste disgusting. Empanadas: I have had better empanadas from a food truck. Spinach Artichoke Dip & Chips: The chips were a bit burnt and some were very soggy. The spinach artichoke seemed like it has been sitting there for a while since it has solidified. Chicken Paella: This would have tasted better but I bit into something that looked like a bone. Overall: I have had better food and service from other restaurants around the area. The waitress should pay more attention to the customers orders. I've been to the Elixir several times, both back in the "normal times" and in the COVID era. I think they've done a pretty good job of keeping the experience consistent with the same food, friendly staff, and environment (albeit a bit more spaced out these days)! Elixir's forte is Tex-Mex food, notably tacos and burritos, although the name and look of the place doesn't really lead this on. I'm not sure how authentic the food offerings are, but they are decent portion sizes and well prepared. Make sure you save room for dessert, they have a really good fried ice cream that, unlike the big chains, it would seem they actually deep fry it to order. Drinks are good, plenty of selection to choose from. If you're into beer like me, spend some time with the menu, they generally have at least one local beer, though you do have to hunt for it. read more

This is the perfect place to kick back and have a few drinks. The main room has music but we entered a side room that was quieter, empty, and bright compared to the bar which had neon lighting and the game on. While the room we were in looked like it needed some work, I appreciate that they have a versatile space. To start, the drinks were awesome. My friend loved her sangria and my mango mojito was delicious. More limey than mango but still great. Both were also not very strong, but I'm a lightweight so it was perfect for me. My friend and I shared two meals - 8 boneless wings, half hot honey and half honey bbq ($8) and a margherita bar pie ($7). It was more than enough food for both of us! The wings were tender and tasted fresh. The hot honey ones were my favorite for sure. The margherita pizza wasn't the best ever - the crust was kind of thin and floppy, but it was fresh and flavorful. We also shared the molten lava cake. I'm not big on super chocolatey desserts but this was so good! The few bites I had were decadent and satisfying. Service was great overall - the busboy didn't really seem to care but our waitress took great care of us. She made great suggestions and checked in with us a lot. Really great food. We had the chicken tortilla soup and it was perfect...not salty and a great balance of chicken, broth, veggies and tortilla strips. We have been coming to Elixir for about a year now steadily. At one point we were coming every Friday and even Saturday. We moved to Edison from Bergen County after we lost a close family member, we really didn't have any connection to Edison aside from our family. It has been a difficult change in for my husband and I. With all that said in between renovating our home and not having a kitchen we were looking for a regular spot to call home to get a good drink and a good meal. We stumbled upon Elixir one night after a long day of renovations, we were super tired and HUNGRY. The moment we walked through the door we were greeted with open arms. Friendly/fun atmosphere full of regulars as well as new patrons. Food is amazing drinks are even better. Everything is freshly made and tastes as if mamma cooked it with love. Wanted to give my review while the experience is fresh in my head. We have done drive bys of this place more times than I can count/remember...likely since it opened years ago. Well today we decided to stop in. We were skeptical and leary on what the atmosphere would be like, but boy were we surprised. This place exceeded our expectations! PROS 1. The bartender, Nicole, is AWESOME! Super friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, and mixes a good cocktail. 2. The owner, Manny, was equally cordial. It isn't often where you can say the owner was as engaged on the floor as he was. He didn't hide in the back and let the staff suck wind. I appreciated that! 3. The menu was fairly extensive which shocked us for a pub like establishment. Nice mix of Mexican and traditional dishes. 4. Creative specialty cocktail menu. 5. Nice selection of beers on tap. 6. Overall inviting atmosphere. The staff here was beyond friendly and seemed to truly get along. CONS 1. Lesson learned...ask for the wings well done. They were a bit undercooked for our liking, but I'm sure if we ask next time they'll oblige and cook them a bit longer. Considering how accommodating the staff was I imagine this won't be an issue. Moral of the story is this place is a little gem with great service and good bar eats! Once I try the wings grilled well done I'm confident I can flip my star rating to 5. I have been coming to this place for awhile now and I really do enjoy my time here. The dishes are Mexican Americana inspired. From what I have had, it's been all delicious. Recently I went with the girlfriend and her brother and we had a great time. There always seems to be a table ready for us. The waiters are cool and attentive. The bar is to one side and dining area to the other. I've had the taco salad bowl and chicken fajitas recently. The food must be fresh before they prepare it because it tastes fresh when served. I love the chicken fajitas. It's a classic dish. You cannot get it wrong. Go order it! If you want something to share, by all means get the chicken nachos. It's light, filling and addicting. Sometimes nachos can be very heavy and leave you sickly. But they prepare it very nicely. I will have dessert soon enough! read more

This place really surprised me! Not much of a looker from the outside but inside the painted murals are awesome. Nice little details but the floor plan is a little "cold" as others said. Came here on a Wednesday with my boyfriend and we sat at the bar. We were quickly greeted with friendly service. For dinner I ordered the catfish tacos with corn tortillas and my boyfriend had the chicken tostadas. They have a very large menu but it's definitely a Tex-Mex geared menu. I really loved the fact I could choice corn or flour tortillas. Tacos came with rice and beans, the beans were a little bland but mixing with the rice helped. The food was really good and the service was attentive and friendly. I give this place a solid three stars - good food, good service, could use a face lift outside (I think that would bring in more passer-byers since it doesn't really look like a restaurant and bar from the outside) and some additions inside to fill it up more but I'd definitely return and try some other stuff! read more

The food here was great! We had a party of 8, 4 kids and 4 adults. The service was cook and everything was well seasoned. The food was not as spicy as expected but the flavor was still great. My girlfriend and I both had the enchiladas with chicken and verde sauce, while her sister had a quesadilla, her brother in law had a burrito and her nieces had the carne asada and mac/cheese. No complaints about the food. Unfortunately a lot of the beers weren't available but the drinks overall were really good. Service was definitely on point.
