Today, at 3:12 PM, I placed an order for delivery. A large ham, turkey, and salami sandwich with provolone, lettuce, and tomatoes. Pretty simple, right? After waiting an hour, the order finally arrived... but the sandwich was missing two of the main ingredients. No ham, no salami, even though I was charged for them. When I called, the manager offered either $5 off or to deliver the missing meat (which "could take a while"). I've been a loyal customer of Oakwood Pizza for years, but over the past year, I've noticed a decline in both quality and customer service. Calls are now answered with just a "hello," without even identifying the business. The last time we ordered, the wings were overcooked and dry, and now this. It's disheartening to see a local restaurant, one that's been part of our community for so long lose sight of what made people support them in the first place: great food and genuine service. As local businesses struggle to stay open, I truly hoped Oakwood Pizza would rise to the occasion, not fall behind. Sadly, after this experience and the rudeness shown today, I can no longer support this establishment. Oakwood Pizza in Edison NJ has one of the best buffalo chicken pizzas ever. I was absolutely blown away. It is located in a plaza with multiple restaurants and shops, and is definitely a hidden and must visit gem. Great and friendly servers. Quick preparation for take out as well. A bit pricey however worth every penny! read more

My friend Anthony tipped me off that I needed to try out Oakwood and I'm glad that he did. Oakwood has a nice, old-school pizzeria vibe (complete with booths and a wood countertop). The staff was very friendly and service was quick. I decided to grab a plain slice and a peppers & onions slice. The plain had a perfectly thin, crispy base with excellent cheese and a delicious sauce. The crust was a combination of crunchy, bready, and flavorful. The peppers and onions slice, a classic in its own right, was beautifully executed. Fresh, tasty veggies with a solid structure (and perfectly foldable!). Oakwood makes some good pizza, I hope to return to try some of their vegan pizza! read more

Beware-New Mgt- I've been coming here since 1995 and it's always been a very friendly environment. In fact, they used to have frequent flyer cards that made you feel apart of the family by being rewarded for return service. Well, new mgt. doesn't share the same business acumen to bring us back. Sadly, many mid - level dining joints and bars have dropped perhaps the most important aspect of customer relations. The manager, lol, so says this reddish brown haired, portly, opposite of personable, more entranced with his phone as he sat in a booth complete disconnected and pompously uninterested in maintaining any form of client retention especially one that has been coming there for 27 years. He without a motion told me that my card is not excepted by new management and then shrugged me off like I wasn't even standing in front of him. This is not a person that they should have managing this restaurant by any way, shape matter or form . I really couldn't tell you how the food was because I walked out and I don't mean to sound like a torn, ex-lover, I wasn't even offered a free fountain soda. but I will not be back. I ordered a leftover bag from an app, but I didn't check to see that they canceled it & that's on me, but it was 9:30pm & I asked about a sub or anything as I delayed dinner for the leftover bag. They didn't seem to care as the guy telling me all that was lying on a table bench seat & couldn't bother to get up to talk to me. So even though their hours say 10pm tonight, they really close a 1/2 hour earlier than their posted hours. So subtract a 1/2 hour across the board if they close early on a Friday! They have pretty good pizza. The problem is they insist on delivering it themselves which they genuinely are not good at. I've ordered from them through DoorDash three times now and I am sitting here two hours after ordering literally one pizza and have nothing. They marked the order as completed and are not answering the restaurants phone. What an absolute waste of $30 the last time I ordered from them the dude dropped off the wrong order and it took 10 mins for him to come back with the right one. This area of Jersey, like many others is flooded w/local pizzerias. In fact, there's at least one for just about every neighborhood. There are at least 3 other closer pizzerias to where I work, yet Oakwood has established itself at the top of the list. Like lots of Jersey pizzerias, it's sits quietly in the back of a plaza along a heavily traveled road. In fact, you'd barely notice it from the street, but don't let it's hidden demeanor fool you. Oakwood has some of the best slices of pizza in the area. The crust is crispy, tomato sauce flavorful, and cheese nice and gooey. Some notable slices include the buffalo chicken, grandma, and plain old cheese. The sandwiches, including D'Tony Soprano, a generous serving of prosciutto, capicola, Genoa salami, and mortadella w/pesto, tomato, fresh mozz, roasted red peppers and balsamic vinaigrette on focaccia, are also worthy of mention. The prices are great, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the vibe is old school pizzeria w/several booths spread out amongst the modestly large restaurant. I'm always iffy on trying pizzerias I'm uncertain of because I'm picky with my pizza, but this joint was awesome! I lived in Edison for about 5 years, and this spot was like a hidden gem! Not many people knew about it, or it wasn't hyped up much, but it is DELICIOUS! The pizza was done perfectly, with a good cheese to sauce ratio. Their garlic knots are also really yummy! The service is pretty good, but the seating is mediocre. Closest to NY pizza you'll find. Probably the best pizzeria in Edison! read more

Very tasty Pizza. The buffalo chicken pizza and the vodka pizza is exceptionally good. It's tasty. The atmosphere is "better than your average pizza joint." It's not too fancy but it's definitely not a dive. There is a good balance. Plus, it's in the middle of many delicious Indian food restaurants. So, that adds something of balance to the whole location. I remember Oakwood Pizza when the entire strip mall had a supermarket and USA Rolling Rink there. Although half the strip mall has basically been demolished, Oakwood Pizza remains. It's the best pizza in the immediate area. I am interested in the hot subs and the entrees. I will try them next. Placed an order from them on a typical Friday evening at 6:00 PM. The order stated 48 minutes for delivery, which is about average in Edison for a Friday. I called them at 7:10, 7:30, and 8:00 PM because the order had not been delivered yet. No apology, no statement of acknowledgment from the staff at all. Only we're very busy and it's Friday night. The order finally arrived at 8:10 PM a (whole 2 hours to deliver) the food was cold and it was missing the cannolis. When I called back, they simply said, "Oh ok, I'll have the guy come back to you when he gets back." It was infuriating! Plus they never sent the cannolis. Horrible customer service. On one hand, it's everything you want in a neighborhood pizza restaurant. Friendly and efficient service, large portions, inexpensive pricing. On the other hand the food was just OK, really nothing special at all. Maybe it was an off night. I really don't know. I usually have pizza or a cold sub to go and this was the first time in awhile I ate in. The fried calamari appetizer was about the largest portion I've been served and it was a steal at $7.95 except it wasn't really good. Small pieces, overcooked, and a pretty tasteless sauce all made this a "bad" dish. I had an eggplant parm hero and my friend had the veal parm. He said the veal was tough and too chewy. I thought the eggplant parm was good. Ok, this wasn't a great review but I will continue to go there for what they do best; pizza, cold subs, and the salad bar. read more

YUM. I thought the pizza today was great. It was nice and crispy. I thought there should've probably been some more sauce, though. Or maybe the sauce just needs to be a little more flavorful. It sure was an adventure getting there. Yelp actually has the location wrong. I followed yelp's location info for directions on my phone and got totally lost. The place turned out to be like 20 minutes away from there... which leads me to the next point. It was slightly disappointing that we got there well before close, but weren't allowed to eat inside the restaurant. Usually, if you're in before kitchen closes, you're in. Well anyway... we hung out and ate on the hood of my car. It was a beautiful night out so we enjoyed it. Well, again, we ended up enjoying it. I've been coming here for about 20+ years now. And I've lived in Edison for the past 25 years. This is seriously one of the best pizza places I've been too if I'm comparing NYC and NJ. Sometimes consistency is an issue but their taste, quality of food and customer service is exceptional. This shopping plaza used to be much larger. For the past 20+ years they are the probably the only long standing business left since then. A lot of new places have opened. But they have stayed and for good reason.
