Came here on a Saturday evening for dinner. The staff was nice and friendly. We got warm bread to start off. The bread was hot and fresh. We then ordered a personal pepperoni pizza, minestrone soup, and a penny vodka which came with a side salad. Everything was delicious and tasted homemade. Terrible customer service, family sat with one of the workers to prepare a menu for a repass,dinner when we asked for expresso we were told it would be extra, this was part of the agreement expresso would be included. Then when the bill was being paid we were told there was no $200 when there was and showed them receipt with the $200, also there would not be sales tax if paid cash, then told there would be sales tax. When we pointed out these issues the person that made the receipt said we were liars, cursed us and was so unprofessional. The lady owner got involved and did NOTHING to resolve this problem but just said she was sorry. This was so disturbing and so unprofessional the way this situation was handled. Needless to say, the food was OK. Now that this has happened we will NEVER come back to this restaurant and be sure to pass this along to friends and family read more

This is our go-to neighborhood Italian restaurant. In addition to their regular menu, they have some great daily specials. Staff is always friendly and efficient. Good menu selection and very affordable with a nice atmosphere. Would definitely recommend. read more

The food here is delicious, and the workers are always so friendly. The first time I tried the food was at a company party. The agency I work for uses them for every party we have. I can see why! They're balsamic house dressing is so good, that it should be bottled and sold! The only thing that got me is their grandma pie is different than everyone else's, and I wish they made an actual grandma pie. Everything I've had is so good. The eggplant and chicken francese is fabulous. So is their pizza. Their lentil soup is some of the best I've had. read more

I understand the times we are in currently. But we ordered from Cafe Gallos tonight and and are completely dissatisfied with the order we received. The Italians sub ordered has literally two pieces of meat on the sandwich not to mention no ham. We also ordered chicken fingers and fries which arrived cold. There was also a chicken and roasted red peppers wrap that was completely soaked in Oil making the wrap soggy and inedible. The delivery was placed online and we were told it would be here in 35 mins albeit give or take. We received the delivery well over a hour and 20 mins We have eaten here many times and never had this type of issue even with ordering online. read more

The experience and quality of the food is inconsistent. I ordered a dish it was prepared with the wrong type of pasta. I was told it would be made correctly and they would pick up the incorrect dish. I was sent a container of pasta. I guess the expectation was that I would pick apart the first dish and add the protein to the new pasta. (Who does that?) When I called to order the next time I wanted to share my previous experience. I was accused of trying to get free food, laughable beyond words. I have had issues with the eggplant being soggy and salad wilted in the past. I know things aren't always going to be perfect so I didn't complain. It is unfortunate that someone calling to continue to patronize your business after being unsatisfied isn't seen as a good thing. Instead of taking the information being shared with a grain of salt I was accused of trying to get free food. Recently moved to this area and have been looking for suitable places for my family to go out to eat on the days/nights we don't feel like cooking. Today my son & I and my 4 year old granddaughter went to Cafe Gallo to have a late lunch/early dinner. My son ordered a personal pan pie that was just "ok" and they charged $18 for it! My granddaughter ordered chicken fingers with fries and the chicken was dry and tuff..... they charged $11.95 for it, and she wouldn't even eat it! I ordered what they called "Chicken Christina" which was pene, sun dried tomatoes, chicken that was extremely dry and cut up into little cubes, in a garlicky sauce. They charged me $22! I ordered 2 meals to take home for my son and daughter-in-law.... A chicken caesar salad with black olives and they charged me $17 plus an extra $1.50 for black olives! Again, the same dried up, tuff chicken cut up into cubes ! The last thing I ordered was sautéed spinach with grilled (dry-tuff cubes) chicken. Asked for mushrooms with that but got onions. Price: $21! All of these meals were small portions! My granddaughter got a lemonade in a small plastic cup with a lid and they charged me $1.95 for a 16oz fountain drink! Was barely 8oz. 2 coffees $5 and never offered a second cup. Small soda $3.50! Bill came to $105.00 with tip it was $120.00!!!! I could have had a MUCH BETTER MEAL for A LOT LESS....... somewhere else! There were no other customers in there besides us the whole time we were there! I can see why!! Bottom line..... This place is WAY OVER PRICED for the Quality & Service that is definitely Lacking in there! Don't waist your money in this place! This is a filthy restaurant and it is beyond me how the board of health has not closed it down. I actually saw a counter girl pick up a slice of cake with her BARE hand, slap it on a plate and have it served to a customer in the restaurant. No glove, no serving utensil- just her grubby bare hand after she had just touched dirty money! I saw food dropped on the floor, picked up and served from a staff of people who drop the F bomb every second word. NEWS FLASH! Only packaged, covered food can be served from counter people handling money. ALL food handlers should be wearing gloves. Great food; delivery and promptness are another story. Ordered through Seamless/Grubhub, and received notification that we'd have the food in 45-60 minutes. After an hour, I called and was told that the delivery "just left". We're going on an hour and a half and it still hasn't arrived. We are about a ten minute drive from the restaurant so I guess we weren't the priority delivery for this trip. As stated, good food but more than 90 minutes for delivery is simply ridiculous. I came in expecting to have a nice meal. When I got to my seat, my waitress rudely tossed the menus on the table. I had to wait a very long time for her to come back to my table. When she finally took my order she interrupted the conversation at my table and pressured us to order right away even though we weren't ready. She seemed to have been smoking cigarettes since that was all I could smell. She was passive aggressive and scolded me for not understanding something on the menu. Overall, terrible experience. "2ND HAND CIGARETTE SMOKE FROM 2 SMOKERS AT THE FRONT ENTRANCE WITH DOORS OPEN" - Two patrons decided to go outside and smoke... RIGHT AT THE FRONT ENTRANCE WITH THE DOORS OPEN. Because it was a blustery day, the 2nd hand smoke that resulted from them blew right into the restaurant while we all ate. No employee asked them to move farther away with their smoking, despite seeing them doing so. The employees could have closed the door too, but that didn't happen either. What kind of BYOB eatery would allow this behavior? o_O Would be 2.5 stars... Choosing the final rating was pretty tough. My family and I came here on Mother's Day for dinner. We made a reservation on the phone for 5:45pm. When we arrived, we had to wait for an additional 10 minutes until the other party left (SMH). Thankfully, the young man in the pizza kitchen let us wait in the pizza parlor dining area with the CNN News TV on until our table was ready. Here we go... The same young man escorted us to our table with menus. After 10 minutes, our waitress arrived and gave us water and asked if we brought our own booze. After we said no, she took the wine glasses away and left. Remember Yelpers, this place is BYOB. Don't like that? Too bad. They do serve standard Pepsi products, but we settled with water. After another 10 minutes, she came back with bread sticks, with olive oil and tomato-based tapenade for dipping. She then took our orders and left. The bread sticks tasted hot and fresh. The olive oil wasn't well seasoned, but the tapenade made up for that. Speaking of which, we decided to add Parmesan Cheese for extra flavor. Tasty!! Our Mozzarella and Carrozza appetizer arrived. This appetizer was Mozzarella baked and coated with a golden crust, and came with a marinara sauce for dipping. The taste of the cheese itself was very fresh, but the sauce was a little bit on the sweet side. Well, it was worth trying once. Next was the mixed house salad for 3 people. It contained lettuce, tomatoes, olives, and carrot shreds. It tasted fresh, and we added Parmesan Cheese for extra flavor. After that, our entree for 3 people arrived. "BEST VEAL ENTREE EVER" - We ordered the Veal Francese Entree for 3 people. Because this was a shared entree, no additional sides were included. However, the unlimited bread sticks made up for that. This was egg-dipped veal with a unique lemon sauce. The veal was perfectly well-cooked, and the lemon sauce had a very STRONG flavor. Last, but not least, dessert. Another waitress came out with a platter of well-presented desserts. She explained each one, and even told us we should consider ordering something that's usually NOT offered at other places. We agreed with that, and ordered a Nutella-based dessert and the cookies and cream ice cream pie. As you all know, I do love Nutella, but this dessert was quite underwhelming. But the cookies and cream ice cream pie was quite a winner. The ice cream was HARD with great flavor, and the chocolate ganache on top was rich and velvety. I definitely recommend to anyone who considers dining in here. Our main server was clearly overwhelmed based on how crowded it was last night. She never smiled, and I don't blame her based on how extremely busy it was last night. The service speed was very sluggish. The other server who served us dessert, however, had a sweet attitude. They have only one bathroom with a single toilet. The seating area can be very cramped at crowded times. Be patient when walking through. In regards to "dine-in" experiences in Central Jersey, I've had much better experiences than this one. As such, we will not consider dining in here again. HOWEVER, we will consider a take-out for the veal entree that we had since we felt that it was better than some of the other restaurants, and is reasonably priced and perfect for sharing. read more

I had a very good meal here. It's not fine dining but it is definitely a nice neighborhood place. The dining room décor and table settings are a lot nicer than many of the other pizza/restaurants that I frequent. The menu is very basic but also includes just about everything that you would expect to find. I thought the prices were very reasonable and the portions were on the large side. It is BYOB. Our server, I think her name was Alex, was very pleasant and helpful. Great smile, kiddo! The bread/rolls they served were out of the oven hot, hot, hot. They provide 2 dipping sauces. One was olive oil with some spices, and the other was a marinara sauce with what seemed to be chopped olives. I really enjoyed that one. I had eggplant rollatini for my main course served over angel hair pasta. Everything tasted great although I thought the dish could have been a little hotter. For review purposes, and because I like to eat, I also tasted my mother in law's eggplant parm dish. Also very tasty, but it too could have been a little hotter. I am really not sure why neither dish came out piping hot although both were cooked to "perfection" in terms of taste and consistency. read more

It tasted a bit off but I didn't think anything of it-- I was starving. Not long after eating the entire thing, the severe stomach pain and nausea was just beginning. From there I spent the night and next day laying on the bathroom floor battling a horrible case of food poisoning. After almost 24 hours running back and fourth to the bathroom and spending some time on an IV drip, my girlfriend literally had to spoon feed me ginger ale. So embarrassing. The food was very delicious, we had chicken marsala, shrimp in Garlic sauce, Mancoti, mixed vegetables and salad! All of which was fresh and reheated well. I've lives in the area for over two years and always passed this place on Morris Ave. From the street, it looks like it's located in the basement and doesn't seem so appealing to eat there. Finally my wife decides she wants to check it out so we went there today. They had a private party but they sat is in the back by the bar. We started with the spicy muscles. Wow!!! That was amazing and highly recommend it. I had the rib eye steak and my wife had the capellini bolognese. My steak was average but cooked very well. The mushrooms and the sides were delicious. Had steak sauce with it and it was fairly good. My wife's dish was a 5 star. We brought our 16 month old daughter and she enjoyed my wife's meal! Will be coming back here! read more

I have ordered from here once before and was not impressed. I decided to try it again since it's been a few months. The fried calamari was barley breaded and had absolutely no flavor. I also ordered the Hotzy Shotzy shrimp. For $9.75 it came with 5 shrimp! I would not recommend this place. The serving sizes are for little kids. read more

If I could give these guys zero stars I would. We had a repass here this past week for 30/40 people. So the waitress was getting an automatic 20% which worked out to $160 for 2 hours, not bad! To say she was rude to everyone is a gross understatement! So when all the tables had not been filled she went to ever table stood at the head of the table and made the guests pass and unneeded glasses and place settings to her. Then she routinely reached in front of people close enough that you had to immediately lean back. Between courses she did not replace silverware and when moving the folks and knifes if u did not grab them fast enough she in a few cases grabbed the end that you had eaten from and got irritated when then asked to replace it. To say the least her service sucked! So the final straw was when the repass was over while the guests where standing she wanted to clear tables and get us out so fast she was practically pushing people out of the way with a large bus pan as she cleared tables. It got so bad I finally told the owner I didn't want her back in the room until our guests left.... she didn't care she continued her rude behavior! The food...nothing special either! So if u are looking for a place special for a larger event..take a pass on this place. Service was terrible and food marginal. read more

I arrived here at 6:00pm and my food wasn't out till 7:20, when everyone else around me had their food and some were finished. The food was good but the time was bad. Stopped by Cafe Gallo in Edison with my grandparents for a quick dinner last night. At first glance it was pretty cute - surprisingly nice decor for a little strip mall in Edison. Cliche Italian music playing in the background, nice bottles of water on the tables, etc. Wasn't very crowded either, which is always a plus. Unfortunately the experience went downhill from there. In no particular order... - The screaming child in the back seriously did nothing for the ambiance. The ambivalent mother also didn't seem to care one way or the other. "Family-style" doesn't mean you get to bring your little hellions out with no repercussions. Or maybe it does, because waitress/management did nothing. - The menus were COVERED in sticky stuff and olive oil. All three menus, every page, front AND back covers. I made sure to keep mine away from my clothes. Seriously guys... clean your menus. Gross. - They didn't offer specials on weeknights, which is fine... but we had the specials insert in our menus! My grandfather started to order and the waitress said "oh no sorry we don't have specials on weeknights" and took the insert out of his hand. Unreal. - The food was average at best. I ordered fettuccine alfredo with shrimp - alfredo came out average but it was clear the shrimp had been defrosted only minutes before, and had that freezer-burned taste, and still had tails on them, meaning I had to cut them off every single one. If I could go back I would have skipped them and saved $6.50. - While the waitress stopped by to clear out plates, she ended up taking bread my grandfather was STILL EATING; she had to end up bringing out more bread for him. Have we heard of this new thing called "asking"? - We ordered a piece of chocolate peanut butter ice cream cake for dessert to share. The cake came out so deep-frozen our waitress had to literally bring out a STEAK KNIFE for me to saw my way through it so we could each have some. Seriously, there HAS to be a laundry list of better places to get Italian food in and around Edison. Good neighborhood option.... Went with a group of friends for Sunday lunch. Although the place was busy, the service was prompt and courteous. Our meals arrived timely and every dish was good. Nice bottles with water and good bread on the tables, cloth napkins and pleasant table settings round out the experience. It's in a strip mall, so parking is easy. The dining room gets a bit noisy and the menu options could be enhanced with a bit more innovation, but overall excellent. I'll go back. read more

Food was ok maybe a little better than that but not much. Service was ok too. There were mistakes with the orders. One we lived with and one which was corrected quickly. Portions were ok as were the prices. I think the restaurant could have been more flexible about substitutions especially where it's not a major change and it's not something that would cost them money in any way. Having only a takeout menu would seem to me that the cafe would be well prepared for a very busy Mother's Day! But when a place gets greedy, takes more orders than they can handle and the food and service suffer is inexcusable to me, as a customer. I called to order a pizza at 5:55 and didn't get it until almost 8:00. While I was waiting I called Cafe Gallo multiple times and I actually felt bad for the girl answering because she didn't know what to tell me except that the driver had my order. While she was very polite the delivery boy was not. When he did come he told me it wasn't his fault and I said no matter whose fault we won't be ordering from them again. He said that's good then started laughing like what I said was hysterical. It was one of the creepiest things I've seen in a while he started to walk away the turned back to me and tried to grab my pen right out of my hand (I keep a pen on the foyer table and picked it up before answering) This happened about 10 days ago and I've been hesitant to write this for fear of him coming back but I just had to finally do it.
