I've come here twice now for team lunches and unfortunately I've been underwhelmed both times. I honestly want to like this place as its a local small business, but I can't bring myself to ever recommend this restaurant to anyone. First the service. Service is only ok and actually kind of bad for a large party. I get large parties can be a handful. But if we already made a reservation letting you know we have a party of 15, you should be prepared. 2 of our party weren't served beverages for a good 30 mins before they were given waters. We also had to flag down our server after 15 mins waiting for her to even take our order! The food: This is the real reason I can't recommend this place. I've ordered 2 different pasta dishes here both bland and with sauces that were too runny. I'm not here expecting fine dining, but honestly the Alfredo at Olive Garden is better than here. And for $18 for a small plate, its pretty expensive!! (You at least get a soup and salad at Olive Garden!) They also don't give the lunch special menu for large parties which is strange. I go to this restaurant a few times a month for the last 25yrs and it never disappoints me. Food is delicious, waiters are so nice and the owners are always there to make sure all is running well. If anything happens that something is not right they fix it immediately. There's no perfect restaurant. We are all human and we make mistakes. What counts is what you do when it happens. Popular neighborhood Italian restaurant/pizzaria with full bar. Huge menu of dishes, like a diner. The food comes out quickly, we were rushed through our meal. They brought the entrées before we were even halfway through our apps, then, without asking dropped take-home containers on the table before we were even halfway through our entrées. The cornbreaded calamari was pretty good, crunchy and not greasy, but the small ramekin of red sauce was insufficent. The mozzarella salad was awful. The cheese did not taste fresh. The tomato slices were disgraceful, pale, tasteless and mealy. The red onion was sliced too thick. They put gross, slimy canned mushrooms on the plate along with canned roasted pepper shreds. We didn't eat most of this dish. The portions are large, but prepared clumsily and hurridly with no finesse. Most of the dishes are mediocre, at best. My second course was penne vodka. The pasta tasted like Ronzoni. The sauces are gloppy. I literally only ate a few bites of of it before the whole bowl congealed like glue, so I left that also. I had eaten here in the past, and it was better. I would not return. If you want good Italian around here, go to The Brick Oven in Westfield (BYOB). read more

First stop in here for dinner as I've only had takeout once before. It seems like there are a lot of regulars here and it gives a family vibe. I ordered the bruschetta pizza and I only ate half of the individual pie. It was very good. My man orders the shrimp parmigiana with penne pasta and he enjoyed his as well. He soad he has had better but he did like it. The restaurant wasn't too busy but it seems like ot as our server wasn't really attentive to us. They then told us once she had an anaphylactic reaction that it does in fact have egg whites in it. Their food is mid...not worth it at all. So many other better Italian places in this area. Pleasantly surprised with the food and service, as this was our first time here. Service was attentive and friendly. Restaurant is very clean, and has a large dining area with comfortable chairs, and booths. Eggplant parm was delicious. It was thinly sliced and cooked correctly. So many restaurants cut it too thick and don't cook it long enough. I would order this item again. Shrimp parm was very good. The cheesesteak sandwich is served on a toasted roll with sautéed tri-colored peppers and onions. Meat was thin, tender and delicious. We look forward to returning. read more

Dear Reader and, hopefully, Tarantellas, My husband and I have eaten at Tarantellas for years and we regularly get the Very Italian pizza to go. Tonight was pizza night so we picked up our usual. What happened? We knew something was different because the once substantial pie felt lighter than normal. Well over two inches of the outer perimeter of crust had nothing on it. There was no garlic, no olive oil, little sauce and other toppings. For $22+ and a tip, we were rewarded with huge hunk of plain crust and a tasteless, pathetic pie. We ate it anyway because we were starving but pulled everything we could from our shelves to dress it up. If this was the first time, having pie from Tarantella's, we would never go back. read more

In this part of N.J. we have Italian restaurants every quarter mile. What makes Tarantella's stand out is how big it is. The building encompasses an order by-the-slice pizza parlor, a large lobby, a casual sit-down area, a full service bar, and a fancier dining area that seats 250 people. There is ample parking in the lot. Our party of four came for Sunday lunch and sat at a booth in the casual dining section. It was clean and well-maintained, but the dated appearance reminded me of an airport lounge. (See photo). We decided to get three items to share. The cold antipasto platter ($11.50) had a bed of crunchy Romaine lettuce topped with black olives, meats, fresh mozzarella, eggplant, mushrooms, grape tomatoes, chick peas, and onions. Everything was good quality. The Baked Bruschetta ($6.50) was a sliced sub roll with tomato sauce and melted cheese. It was not memorable and we didn't finish it. The Florentine Pizza ($18.95) was delicious! It's a white pie--i.e., no tomato sauce--with spinach and dollops of ricotta. (See photo). The two in our party who got coffee agreed it was very good fresh coffee. Two of my companion diners ordered cocktails and reported that they were excellent. We catered food from Tarantella's for a party for 140 people - 4 large trays and 2 large pizzas after consulting their chef. The food arrived on time, it was hot & the driver set everything up (we paid for it). What we noticed was the bread that came with the food was only for about 20 people. They were supposed to send forks and knives, but only sent knives. Thankfully, we had extra and were able to provide out guests with those, otherwise we would've really cut a sorry figure! When I went to restaurant to provide feedback, the store manager lady was very defensive. She said, "We're not a bread company, I can't give away loaves of bread." So I told her that I wasn't looking for 'extra' bread, but it should be commensurate with what I have ordered. She was very defensive and borderline rude, and then agreed that it was a mistake on their part. Then she suddenly remarked, oh you're the one who wanted cutlery to be provided. I was taken aback and felt quite insulted. I told her that the girl who took my order asked me if I wanted cutlery and I said "Sure!" I told the store manager that her remark was insulting and she needs to train her staff better! I have been a regular at ordering take outs at Tarantella's but I guess I will not frequent them as much as I used to. I still can't believe that a store manager could speak to a customer in such a tone. I would give the place 4 stars for food, but my experience today with the store manager made me give this place 2 stars! read more

Tarantellas has been our go-to Italian since it opened. We have our favorites; Chicken Parmesan, Antipasto Salad, Hot Sausage Hero, Chicken Giambotta, Meatball Sliders, Garlic Knots, AND the dish ordered every time: Sautéed Pasta with Bolognese. Our average spending on a meal for two has been $95-$120 (pricey!). Lately, the Bolognese has not be up-to-par. I don't know what they changed but the dish is not sautéed, the meat is course, chunks of tomatoes, no garlic. It's been terrible the last few times we've had it. Last night we placed an order for 3 people, and got a large order of Bolognese with spaghetti. Well... it was barely tossed and there was hardly any pasta! We were using it as a side dish and we had to minimize our portions because it was literally all meat. Did the kitchen run out of spaghetti? I'm sorry, but spending $25+ for a large order that delivers an understuffed, unbalanced meal, is a fail. If this was the first time we were disappointed in this item, I'd let it go but it's consistently been a thumbs down. The garlic bread was soggy. The rationing of the regular bread stinks. And the chicken giambotta lacked potatoes and the meat was too chunky for the dish. Now let me get back to making a box of spaghetti so I don't waste the mound of bolognese. now making my own pound of pasta so I don't waste all of this Bolognese. The service is okay but front end staff isn't trained well if my husband has to call me because they can't find the order. This restaurant needs to step up their game on the kitchen! The food is ok. For an Italian restaurant, I had better. The sole oreganatta did not taste fresh and I almost always order seafood at Italian restaurants. The food took a little long to come out and the restaurant was noisy. The first time we were here, the waitress was very professional, but our second visit was not very good. The waiter (older man in his late 60s) messed up our order and we had to wait for it to be re-cooked (I don't remember his name). This review is LONG overdue! I have been coming to Tarantellas about 3 times or more a month for the last 6 months! And I have yet been disappointed with the service and or quality of food. I have Celiacs disease and was diagnosed last year. I thought pasta would never be the same and I was wrong very wrong. I come here for the gluten-free chicken parm and it's truly amazing just how I remember it when I use to eat the regular one. You can't taste the difference! I have an intolerance to gluten and have an app that shows nearby restaurants with gluten free menus. The owner of the app gave high praises to this restaurant and specifically to the gluten free meatballs. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the gluten free menu. I sat at the bar for dinner. I ordered a side house salad, gluten free gnocchi bolognese and a side of gluten free meatballs. While eating both dishes I saw strands of spaghetti pasta in both dishes. Initially I didn't think anything about it and then I checked the gluten free menu and realized that they don't have gluten free spaghetti. Kathleen was the bartender and I brought up my concern. I told her the cooks need to be informed because this can be dangerous for someone with celiac disease. She said the manager would be the one to speak with the cooks and that she would ask her to come talk yo me. Kathleen came back a few minutes later and said the manager is really busy and it could be a minute before she can talk with me. A few minutes later I saw the manager and Kathleen talking at the opposite end of the bar near the interest. Kathleen came to me and said the manager said it was whole wheat possible and that they would give me a free glass of wine. So my issue was not addressed. Whole wheat pasta on a gluten free dish is an issue. I've never seen a manager before not come to a customer to address an issue. And I'm concerned that nothing was said to the cooks. So while the food I ate was good, please take extreme caution when eating here. Kathleen was great. However based on the manager's behavior I will never return to this restaurant. Decided to do a date night at this place and it exceeded our expectations. Waitstaff and servers all very friendly, as we were walking to our table people would wave and say hi. Just extremely welcoming. They do have an extensive menu . We ordered the calamari for an appetizer. My boyfriend and I are calamari snobs. This dish was phenomenal . Extra crispy and not chewy. I was hesitant to order the Buffalo chicken pizza as it said no sauce on the menu. The chicken is breaded, there is cheese and hot sauce and blue cheese drizzled. It was amazing. It wasn't watery or greasy either. My boyfriend had the sausage and peppers which was also very tasty. We will be back! read more

I am not sure who took this place over a few years ago, but the food is excellent. I went to tarantellas when I first moved to Clark and the food was lackluster. However, in the past two months, my wife and I have been there about four or five times, and every time I've gone the food has been great. I've ordered different types of fish every time, and they've always made it perfect (not overcooked). I cannot say the same about other local restaurants. They usually overcook fish, and it's extremely disappointing. Service is really good. The staff seems to be ready to help you out. I would definitely recommend Tarentellas. read more
