We have been going here for some time now and always had great experiences. As of late the mood and attitude has changed dramatically. I know all the restaurants are having trouble with staffing, but that is no reason to take it out on regular customers that have been supportive through the tough times. We are finding this at many of our regular spots. If they need to raise prices, we have no problem with it and are understanding. But we are finding sneaky price increases that are not listed on the menus and have no alternative than to pay the bill. We asked for a refill of coffee, to find out that we were charged for a second cup of coffee, which most restaurants don't do and neither did this restaurant in the past. We had a table of 6 and this added considerably to the bill. I' m not saying this is wrong, I'm just saying that customers should be made aware of the changes in the restaurants policies and let the customer make the decision. Customer consideration goes a long way to keeping long and loyal customers. read more

I had not been here in a very long time. This used to be my "go to" place for a delicious chicken franchise. During my last visit, my guest and I had different chicken dishes and they were not up to par with our usual standards. We decided to dine outside last night due to Covid. There were people indoors, but I am not ready to do that yet. Ok, so the waitress came out and took our orders. I was impressed that she was wiping down the table and I asked her to do the same with the chairs. No salt or pepper or any type of condiments (pepper flakes, parm cheese) were on the table. The bread came and the rolls looked delicious. However, they were tasteless...asked for some oil and parm cheese just to doctor it up. Bread was nice and hot, though, so that was a plus. Salad was included with our dinners., but could they spare it. The tiniest side salad I ever received came on a tiny plate, which even made it look smaller. They used to serve a size sized salad to accompany the meals. I ordered veal parmigiana, something I never ordered here. It was just OK. Again, missing tremendous amount of flavor, and really could have used some salt and pepper, but no waitress in sight, Menus should be on paper (not plastic in these times).Now, for the worst part (aside from no one ever asking if everything was satisfactory) when I was leaving, I noticed the gentlemen behind the counter (could see through the door) was NOT WEARING ANY MASK. I peeked to look at the kitchen staff and I saw a man with no mask there, too, This really got me upset. There were signs at the entrance that patrons must wear masks. Now why don't workers, especially those making the food and handling and greeting patrons, not have to wear masks. I will be sure to spread the word, as that is totally not right. I am very careful and wear masks and social distance. This was my first eating out experience in a very long time, but I was not pleased. Celebrated my Dad's birthday at Cafe Gallo with 19 family members. Love love this place. BYOB, Appetizers and Entrees were delicious and portion size enough to take home. What can I say about the excellent attentive and kind waitresses !! They made our night. Our party never had to ask for a thing the waitresses were always by our table to make sure things ran smooth. We even brought our own birthday cake and they surprisingly provided the candles !! read more

Never again!! Café Gallo is a place that my family and I would come to from time to time since the food and service were generally good. This is no longer the case. Our last trip was our last trip to Café Gallo due to the service and quality of the food. When my family and I arrived to the dining room and said hello to one of the servers she responded with, "7 or 8? Make your way to the back, round table and someone will be with you shortly." We sat down and waited for a few minutes and then another server came over to us. We eventually placed an order for an appetizer and waited about one half hour for cold antipasto and mozzarella en carozza. After our appetizer the server cleared our plates and silverware but never returned with new silverware. When dinner came I asked the server if I could have a dinner knife since I had ordered a dish with meat. The server returned with a butter knife and I asked her politely, again, if I could have a dinner since that was a butter knife. This request seemed to make the server angry. When dinner had ended our server loudly said to the other server, in reference to me, "can you please clear her plate? I can't stand that bitch!" I should also note that my finished plate sat in front of me for nearly 20 minutes after the rest of the table's plates had been cleared. When the server returned she asked us if we wanted coffee or dessert. My aunt then asked her, "what do you have?" The server replied, "What do you want?" My aunt said, "do you have decaf coffee?" The server replied that she did and we all ordered coffee. The server then walked away. About 30 minutes later she returned with our coffee and walked away. When the server returned my mother asked her if dessert was available to which the server replied, "yes, but you didn't ask." We asked for the check. As for the quality of the food, many members of my family commented that the sauce tasted like Ragu. The chicken salad that I ordered was dry and lacked any flavor. read more

Oh my GOD, what a turn around since my last few experiences that this place, the worst customer service I have experienced in my entire life. Here is what happened this weekend. I had guest over and wanted to order 2 large Pizza's I did not remember the name of what i had ordered prior (I think it may have been a Margarita / Brooklyn - all I remember that it was a square thin Pizza). I call this guy and try to make sure that I get the right order in. Firstly he cuts me off as he is getting another call and ends up taking the other order before me. Then he flips opers to my call (I can hear the whole conversation). I explain to him what I want and he not sure what I am asking for and kept saying " Grandma", Grandma, that what you want... I kept tying to tell him it may have been margarita anyway hey says I know and hangs up. About 40 minutes later I get a 2 large pizzas and not what i ordered. Its a real mess ( I do not realize this at the time I paid - only after), the delivery guy took my cash and a fat tip and left. I call the guy back and explain that this is the wrong pie and he keeps insiting that this is waht I ordered, I finally give up because this is for a set of HUNGRY kids who will not eat this messy grandma Pizza with ricotta cheese. i drive up to the pizzaria and tell him "hey here is your pizza" none of us can eat it, you don't have to give me the 45$ i spend on these just keep it, its useless to me as its the wrong order as well as un pallatable. He continues to argue.... i explained to me I have been a loyal customer ( he does not care...). Honestly howemuch does it really cost him to make me another pie...... i finally gave up and said "Be happy to screwed a good customer of 45$ and potentially future business from me or any of my friend, I left his PIZZA on his counter and left. What a cheap JERK his true colors came out when he had to deliver, I will never visit them again! and will actively canvass with all by friends NEVER or order from these in considerate MORONS who will go to any length to hide theie ERROR!. The worst dining experience I have had in a long time. Service was terrible (made reservations for 8). It took 30 minutes for a salads to comer out (afterr we asked where they were, a three tables that arrived after us got their DINNER). The waitress made some lame excuse, dinners took another 1 hour and 5 minutes (had to go into the pizzeria and find the so called OWNER), he just said they were slammed and our dinners will be out soon. Three tables that seated after us were already gone. Three dinners were bland. Waitress never came back to apologize or even to see how the food was. LEFT NO TIP! The manager or owner never even came to our table. Amateurish operation, should have stuck to just the pizzeria. I used to really like this place, however, they have a bad habit of using their small dining area for catering. On more than one occasion on a Friday or Saturday night we've gone in only to find most, if not all, the tables pushed together for very large parties. This is fine for a very large place that can still accommodate their regular customers who are the "bread and butter" of any restaurant. We were regulars at this place and on many weekends during the summer we would be one of a handful of people eating there. Seems the large parties start in the fall. Went there last night and had to sit in the pizzeria due to the "catering" going on in the packed dining room. The wait staff was overwhelmed and though we managed to get glasses, silverware and menus the waitress never came back. After waiting over 30 minutes to place our order (meanwhile the manager stood around doing nothing), we poured our wine back into the bottle and headed to Ferraro's on the south side of Edison. Coincidentally, they were holding a fundraiser and were mobbed too! However, we were promptly seated, had our order taken and were eating our DELICIOUS food in less than 30 minutes... Probably my all time favorite Italian restaurant. Must start off with the Hot Antipasto, it lets you start off trying multiple flavors, and the stuffed mushrooms are out of this world. I usually get the Zuppa Di Pesce, which is always fresh, and my wife loves the Alla Maria. Save room for dessert, because the tiramisu is the absolute BEST we have ever had! This will be a simple review since a 1st time I try any new pizzeria I only order a plain pie & maybe an appy/sandwich because to me to tell how well a pizza is made i dont have it with toppings so I can taste the quality of the cheese, bread & most importantly sauce. In this case I also ordered a veggie Panini(with mozzarella/sundried tomatoes) Guy on phone friendly, items arrived in the quoted time(which is all you can ask for esp on a Friday nite). Requested thin crust--pie a bit unevenly cooked(some burnt areas). Crust was thin about 3/4 of each slice. However, sauce was virtually non-existent(like Pizza Hut) & only noticed a drop or 2 of oil when slices folded. There was virtually no sauce/oil spots in the box & we could have used NON grease-resistant paper plates to eat it. Rest of pie so-so I tasted the spices that i put on it(garlic salt, oregano, red pepper flakes more than anything else). Panini was ok not great. With tax/tip came to $24 which is reasonable. I may try dining in the restaurant but will not order togo/takeout again. I also did a review of Luna Pizza on the same street definitely a better pizza. read more

This is definitely my go to pizzeria. The staff is friendly and the food is good. The gourmet pies are a little pricey, but usually worth it. My biggest gripe is my most recent delivery of a vodka pie (my personal favorite) had barely any vodka sauce on it and was covered in cheese rather than having the blobs of fresh mozzarella. And since this is a gourmet pie (and $15 for a small!) I feel a little ripped off since I didn't really get much of the "gourmet". However, I don't usually have a problem, and the restaurant is nice to sit down and eat in. Overall, still my go-to pizza place. Just hope they fix their vodka pie so it's back the way it was! Ordered online for delivery; we ordered the Hot Antipasto and received 3 of the tiniest stuffed clams I have ever seen, they were all less than 1" in width. Same with the 3 stuffed mushrooms. 2 medium sized shrimp oreganata and one piece of eggplant rollatini that was small and barely filled with anything. First time there. Went in for a couple slices. Worst pizza I've had in a long time. Crust was a little too thick and tough to chew. The slices were a bit over-cooked. The pizza sauce wasn't great. I'll try it once more to see if this was a fluke. I tried the tiramisu for dessert. While it tastes fine, they screwed it up by adding an undesirable extra ladyfinger layer on top and only having a thin layer of mascarpone. The mascarpone layer should be at least or 3 times as thick as a ladyfinger. What would have been great became mediocre. read more

She was sooooo rude, rushed me off the phone, didn't repeat the order to me, didn't tell me my total, and didn't tell me how long it was going to be. I love this place. There is the sit down side with nice Italian dishes and the pizza shop side with pies, subs, etc. Regardless of which side I go to, I have always had wonderful food and great service. The sit down side is BYOB, just as an FYI. On that side I've had the chicken pram many times and it's great.
