I am shocked to see they have 3 1/2 stars but looking deeper into the reviews there are quite a few understandable complaints. Here I am to add to the list!!! I was there with my girlfriend and 2 young grandsons on Friday night for dinner. We explained to the waitress the kids were hungry so please keep that in mind when placing the order in the kitchen. We ordered the clams and shrimp appetizers and the kids meals right away. The restaurant was practically empty so we did not anticipate a problem, boy we were wrong!!! The waitress brought us warm stale bread and dipping sauces. After 25 minutes and no appetizers I went to the kitchen, I saw all the servers and the chef being yelled at by the owner, I also saw my appetizers waiting to be served. I asked is anyone going to give me any service, the owner angrily said he was talking to his staff. Once I got back to the table we got our appetizers which were cold and very small, and only one of my grandsons got his dinner cardinal sin, luckily they share. The second meal came out 15 minutes later. Then we got the salad that comes with the meal, honestly why bother serving them they are so small. My girlfriend and I took our dinners to go because the kids were done eating by the time they were ready. They were just okay, my girlfriend said the marinara sauce was too sweet. I think I have food poisoning!!! This is - by far - the WORST pizza ever! I never post reviews but i was so disgusted by what i received. Ordered a pepperoni pie. Hard to believe, but the pepperoni was sour. Yes, sour. Ordered a "gourmet" pie (and was charged accordingly!) and couldn't believe they allowed it to leave the restaurant! It was likely made 2 days ago, reheated and delivered. Go to Ferraros next door. They know how to make a pizza! read more

We booked Cafe Gallo a few months in advance before my son's baptism. Maria and I initially agreed on one large table for 20, however she later convinced me that two tables of ten would be easier to walk around, to which I agreed. I was told I could come in to decorate the morning of at 11am. Upon arriving, there was sand all over the floor, and the tables had not been moved into the position that we had agreed on. I moved them with a server. In addition the long tables were just a bunch of two person-tables lined up together, ordinarily I wouldn't mind but the tables were different heights and looked cockeyed. I had to decorate the party room in the dark. Thank goodness I brought a watering can to save myself time filling the flower vases. It would have been nice if a staff member offered a helping hand. There were no table clothes and the napkins were brown. After speaking with the server, Shannon, I was informed that I would have to pay extra for white tablecloths and napkins and they would have needed to be ordered in advance. This was never discussed with me or I would have made sure we had/paid for/ordered tablecloths. She was able to find ivory napkins and for that I was very appreciative. Our party began at 2pm. On our way I phoned the restaurant to let them know that we would be arriving shortly. Upon our arrival, the restaurant was warm and nothing was ready. There were two place settings missing, and one chair missing. We had to ask three times for them to take soft drink orders and bring out the wine and beer that we brought and stored the day before. They opened up every bottle of wine I purchased even duplicates so I ended up having to toss 7 bottles of barely sipped wine! When we asked why it was so hot in the party room they told me the AC was working at full capacity, but when a guest found the thermostat, it was set at 79 degrees. We had to pay a cake-cutting fee but wanted to take photos of my son cutting the first piece. We asked for a cake knife multiple times and waited at least ten minutes, until one of my guests brought out a knife from the back. While in the back, our guest mentioned seeing a server touch our leftovers with her bare hands while wrapping them up. Yuck! To top off the day, my father in-law wanted to help pay for the party but he was denied because they would only accept cash as payment. The disorganization, miscommunication, and questionable food handling was enough to turn me off to this place. Nothing ran smoothly and I wasn't able to relax and enjoy my time. Needless to say, we will not be hosting any future parties at this establishment. read more

My family ordered a simple cheese pizza for takeout on Christmas Eve 2013. It was absolutely, without question, terrible. The pizza was overcooked (i.e., burned, burned, burned) and the sauce tasted like it was a week old. Aside from the pizza, the service (order to pickup) was terrible as well. We will never order or eat at this restaurant again. My advise for a good pizza on Inman Avenue.....Vincenzo's down the road. New ownership, new decor, smiling faces, and a frequent order program (not to mention CHEAPER). read more

This place is like a hidden gem! If you love Italian food and you like to roll deep with friends & family, this place is for you. Not only is it affordable, they also serve in a la carte style. This is my all time favorite spot for cheese tortellini alfredo. I always go back home to visit my parents in Edison and end up ordering delivery from Cafe gallo, just for their tortellini. Fresh alfredo sauce, i always end up devouring the entire thing. And the salad dressing vinaigrette is good, so is the soft bread that comes with it. Love this place! read more

Food is good...salad pizza is a nice alternative! Customer Service needs to improve as they do not allow you to order a large pie in the dining room (even if you are ordering additional full meals). Used for delivery and they are always prompt. read more

I have never eaten in (just picked up) but I can tell it's a big family oriented location. The staff is always super nice, their Margherita is AMAZING and I recommend it highly. I would also ignore the two 1 star reviews....anyone who goes to a restaurant dozens of times, LOVES it and then has one bad experience and calls it quits forever is not the kind of person you should seek advice from =) read more

I've been coming here for a few years now and will continue to do so. It's a bring your own restaurant, which is nice because I can bring my favorite bottle of wine at its normal cost. I love the chicken francaise with penne and the bread is really good, too. When I want pizza, I love the vodka pie with fresh mozzarella. Definitely give it a chance! read more

I have ordered pizza from Cafe Gallo twice one the last few months. On both occasions they screwed up my order gave me something I did not order. My most recent experience was for a Grandmas pie, after picking it up and opening at home, I found a regular pie which was cold, once again not what I ordered. worst chicken parm sandwich and mozzarella en carroza i've ever had. chicken parm- soggy bread, veiny chicken, and there was a hardly any mozzarella on it ( few shoprite quality sheds). mozzarella en carroza- tasted like straight up old fry oil (change your oil) and it was soggy. it hurts me thinking i wasted $25 on it. ughhh what a waste for a horrible meal. read more

I went here for a baby shower in November and had a wonderful dinner and time. My parents were married 65 years in January and I wanted to do something special so I thought that this place would be perfect! WRONG!!!! I should have known by how rushed the owner was when he talked to me out in the pizza area. I should have been taken to the room we were going to have the party and discuss everything. I have never been so embarrassed. My extended family had come as far as Canada to celebrate with us and yes, we were running late because my parents received a blessing at church, but the waitress rudely said please get everyone to sit down we are going to start serving. I thought everything was going to be done just like the shower. Wow, was I in for a shock and disappointment. First came the ziti, then the salad then plates of fish and meat. Vegetables? Nope, there were none! Did I miss something on my menu that the shower had? My friend was with me when we went and I said I wanted to have the same style as the shower. I was so embarrassed. Understand that I was paying for this myself and I had saved up for months to do something really special for my folks. We are not talking pizza and a beer! We are talking 30 adults and 2 children. I went back a couple days later to talk to the owner. He wasn't there and I talked to his mother and told her how disappointed I was. She said "why didn't you say something then we could have made some vegetables!" Really?? That was an option? I asked to have the owner call me - she took my message and number. i have been using cafe gallo as my caterer for last 4 yrs or so.i have 3 to 4 20 to 40 person gatherings a year and they have never disappointed. i had a friend at the local supermarket near there he would go for lunch while on break i tried it and it has been only place i used for my get togethers since. from the homemade meatballs,baked ziti penne vodka to the mozzarella en carrozza mussels and antipasta they have helped make all my party's including this yrs super bowl a hit!!! From the people answering my calls right down to the delivery kids who go as far as putting dishes in racks for me everyone overly helpful to say the least!! ty to the cafe gallo crew for everything!!!! read more
