It's hard to find a place with good cocktails, but this place SLAPS!. Very cool, funky vibe with a music/vinyl record theme. Fun bar with high tops as well as a lounge area with big arm chairs and coffee tables. The food is good to very good, though some things we liked better than others. We had the material girl, and it was a perfectly balanced drink. We ordered the veggie zucini burger, It was good but not spicy. We had burgers with fries and also ordered side of yucca fries which were really good as well. Loved the food and low-key vibe. The service was excellent. We will definitely be back but will stick more to the "shareable" portion of the menu. Just to wrap up this review, I've been here 3-4 times and haven't had a drink or food item I'm disappointed in. Finally got to check this place out . I heard about it but didn't know it was right near somewhere else I like to go. It's kinda incognito. Left side looks like a bar and right side building looks like the restaurant. Not sure since it's a pandemic.... we were escorted thru the alley throughway to the backyard patio and bar. Cute little intimate set up. The my don't take reservations so it's first come first serve . We were seated right away but it was also 8 pm. They also said it's two hr timeframe at the table. Staff was super friendly. Menu online Parking street. Metered before 7pm. Drinks and food were pretty good. I got the walking on sunshine cocktail which is a gin cocktail and then the uptown girl which is a vodka lychee martini spinoff. I decided on two small places today. I got the honey sriracha wings and the spicy shrimp. They were good/ok. Loved the presentation. Friend for the lobster tacos. We shared the coconut bread pudding and that was delicious. We come here a few times a year and they keep getting better and better! We used to come for some bites, drinks, and music at the bar, but now we come for a delicious dinner in a very nice dining room with subtle and sophisticated decor. I had the best veggie burger ever the other day, it was like a mashed fried zucchini. My wife has an excellently cooked steak, they were not afraid to do a true juicy medium rare. And they have great kids menu, try their chicken fingers! They simply cut a breaded chicken breast into fingers and they are so crispy and tasty. Service was solid, a little bit of a wait for our mains, but that's not always so bad. read more

Came here recently. I'd heard so much about about this place, so I was excited to try it out. Our party was seated immediately, and it wasn't really crowded. We were seated towards a quiet corner in the back. Once seated, we were given menus, water, and asked if we wanted any drinks. The lag time between the server leaving and coming back to take our orders was very long. However, the staff is very kind and pleasant to interact with. I chose the pappardelle with mushrooms and pecorino cheese. It was awesome! Very rich, creamy, and flavorful. It would make a great comfort meal. After wrapping up our meals, it took a while to have our leftovers packed and to receive the check. However, the food quality is amazing, and hope to be back. read more

This side of the restaurant does not honor their reservations. I called two weeks in advance to make a reservation for 4 people. The gentlemen on the phone told me everything was in place and he even ran down the pre fix menu options for me. After getting there, the couple who drove an hour to meet us arrived too. I went to check in and be seated and the woman at the front desk asked for my name, and then told me I was not on their reservation list and to go next door. I didn't make the reservations for next door; we were supposed to be seated in THIS side of the restaurant. I went next door and then they said they had no reservations for me and that I should go back to this side of the restaurant. Thankfully the Irving Inn Social side was able to accommodate us and get us a table. Fast forward, we sit down and place our orders. The waitress dropped a glass all over the table, but whatever it's all good. The food then takes literally an hour to come out. It was DELICIOUS. That's literally the only thing that saved this review. Everything from the appetizers, to the drinks, to the entrees...all delicious. The food here is on point but they seriously need to get the customer service skills on track. I'm hoping I came here on an off day because I do want to try this place again. read more

So disappointed. Read the reviews and decided to go here to celebrate my husband's birthday. Though the staff was friendly and accommodating, the menu on the other hand was deceiving. At first glance the food choices looked promising and interesting, however what we got did not live up to the hype. First off, I am a seafood lover from Maryland, who has lived in NYC for over 20 years and just recently moved to the Woodbridge area. So my standards are high. I ordered the Lobster Tacos. They should be called Rice Tacos. I was lucky to find 2 shards of lobster meat (if it was even real lobster) in all of the three tacos the size of my palm. The small pieces of pineapple were fresh, as were the tomatoes but to find the large quantities of rice in each tacos just plain insults my taste buds. (See attached picture) Now the taste was ok, if you are looking to taste rice, but these are supposed to be LOBSTER TACOS! Y'all just lost my respect. I did also order the Crab Fries, which were awesome. At least the sprinkling of crab meat on top the fries had some substance. My husband's Market Salad with the Acocado Vinaigrette was also divine. His Sausage and Pepper Pasta was decent, but again skimpy on the sausages. Overall this $60+ meal comes across as highway robbery. Take the Lobster Tacos off the menu, please! Only been here once, but I loved the food, service, and interior. Atmosphere 5/5: very clean interior with an industrial feel. Beatles posters mixed with a wooden propeller, and some rustic decorations make this place a bit unique. Large bar and a few bar top tables, with large tables for big groups. On the Friday we went they had a live band who was very engaging and played well. The non live music they played beforehand was perfect for me: a bunch of classics and oldies. Service 5/5: our bartenders were all very friendly, patient, and helpful. The waiters explained each dish they brought to out and were very professional. Food 5/5: we were here for a work holiday party so I can't speak to their regular menu. The raw bar with oysters, clams, crab, and shrimp was delicious. The apps like steak tartar, wings, etc were all fresh and delicious. I had filled minion with salad and pasta - all very tasty! And the cheesecake dessert was also good. Drinks 5/5: the beer menu is a great size with local nj beers, including Rahway brews! They can make any cocktail you want, and have bottom to top shelf liquor. We spent the day in NYC and were staying in Rahway. I had read favorable reviews on The Irving Inn. So, I figured we'd give it a try. We stopped by for an appetizer and a nightcap. There is a cozy ambience about the place. We ordered Spicy Garlic Shrimp, a glass of Pinot Noir & a couple of Wheel in the Sky beverages. The staff is small but are very knowledgable of their menu. Really loved Alice's hospitality. Joanie's suggestions were on point. And the chef did NOT disappoint. First time visiting the Irving Inn for a wine and dine sit down dinner. Wow. Wow. Wow. What a better way to start then to order Wine for the table - we ordered the cartlidge & brown, a light, middle of the road, Cabernet. Started with toasted bread with olive oil dip (added some hot pepper) and shrimp appetizer. Amazing. Amazing. Lordy. If that's the start, it only gets better. I ordered the Lump Crab as my entree and it was phenomenal, literally, I've never had anything like it. It had fresh crab pieces, mixed with a spicy pasta combination, it was heavenly. My fireman ordered the chef choice of the day which was the Kansas strip ... left us speechless to say the least, or to not say the least because no words can even describe how amazing this steak was. Cooked to perfect perfection at medium temperature. All in all, food was incredible. Service was over the charts and Jeanie took care of us from the beginning to the end - literally, no complaints. Friday nights are a no-go from here on out. They were super busy and forgot about our table often. That's okay though, because the food was worth the wait and wait and wait.... We had all gotten the chicken arugula dish. I don't remember the full name but, this dish made me fall in love with arugula. Just delicious. Their menu is small so you know the food must be good. I like restaurants that focus and master only a few dishes. Next time I will make a reservation or drop in for lunch instead. read more

We were pleasantly surprised with our experience, as we recognized the place from a past try many years ago. However, this time we will be back sooner than before. Under a new name and new owners. The food is delicious. A flight of wine was a great offering, and the butter lettuce salad was a nice beginning. I had the shrimp & grits, which smelled as good as it tasted. And my spouse had the pan seared chicken with a salsa verde, a staple on the menu, which was understandable, because it was cooked and presented so well. We were going to try the French toast pudding, but thought we should leave that for our return. All in all, it was a very nice meal. And the atmosphere was wonderful. Great music. Great host- Joanie. Loved this place. Great rustic brick decor/atmosphere , excellent house cocktail selection, extensive craft beer choices and higher end pub menu. There are two buildings side by side with a courtyard, with seating, in the middle. I believe that the "Social" is the pub, complete with bar and dining tables and the "Inn" is more formal dining next door. Highly recommended. read more

Came in for dinner, and enjoy the farm-to-table freshness. The service was a bit slow Kama especially for a weeknight when the place was virtually empty, but I really enjoyed the menu offerings. Started with the kale Caesar. The kale was quite tough, but I still enjoyed it. And I got the salmon. I didn't realize it was going to be served on a broth-base coucous. I might have reconsidered that, but it was still tasty and it seemed fresh. The table shared a bottle of Skyfall Cabernet, and it was very good. We skipped dessert because the portions are quite large. Overall good, but the food was slow to come, and several times my water glass was empty and we could not find a server. For the area, I'd say this is one of the better choices. read more

This is our go to date night/special occasion restaurant. The food is always so fresh and the owners are so gracious and welcoming. I love how there is always something new and interesting on the menu, but also your favorite old tried and true recipe is too. The atmosphere is just as good as the food. We originally came here because of the bourbon menu and decided to have dinner in the restaurant. Wow! The food is amazing. What a gem this restaurant is. Everything was delicious and fresh tasting. I really wanted to like this place since it is so close to home but those expectations fell short. After giving my order to the waiter, a few minutes later he informs me that they ran out of strip steak and asks me to choose another enter. I chose braised short ribs to only find out that they ran out of those as well. I ended up with the halibut which was good but not the beef I had in mind. Also the first set of appetizer plates were dirty. The waiter did not even offer to comp one of our drinks for the inconvenience. Overall food was okay but not worth it. I had dinner at the Irving Inn some time near the end of summer. It was so good that I reserved the upstairs room for NYE to have dinner with friends based on my first dinner experience. The ambiance was perfect in this quaint old house. I was also glad they didn't have a pre fixe menu so it allowed for us to order almost everything on the menu. Every single bite was delicious!
