I recently had an excellent meal here with some business associates. They offer a lot of various sandwiches and other bar style food. Food was prepared perfectly and cooked to order. Spacious dining room that can accommodate private parties along with a regular dinner service. Large bar with seating around the whole bar. Menu was a little pricy but not bad. I ordered from the special menu and was very happy with the empanadas. Their regular menu is very basic but everything is made exceptional well. This is for the bar area not the restaurant/banquet hall. On a Saturday late afternoon. SERVICE - very slow. Unless you're a regular and they know you, expect to wait to be helped. I came with one friend , self seated in the bar area, waited a while before someone finally noticed and asked if we need menus. Then took a while before someone could come and ask for our order. Food was fairly quick though. After eating and requesting getting check we waited 16 minutes for someone to come take the bill from our table. We were there a very long time because the slowness. Everyone is nice and friendly and you can tell this is a local place because the staff is chatty with the local customers. It's a great energy besides the timeliness. FOOD - the menu is all over the place. Great if you come here often there's something new to have every time. It includes the typical American bar food (nachos, wings, onion rings, mozz sticks). Then it has t, pasta, fish dishes, salads, specials. Tons of dessert options too (multiple cake flavors and ice cream flavors). The nachos were a huge portion, perfect for 2-3 people. I got it without the chili since I don't eat that and they were pretty bland and lacking cheese. If you eat chili it probably tastes better with it. The garlic shrimp appetizer is a very small portion just enough for a one person app. The French onion soup is classic but very salty. Lastly the dessert was absolutely delicious. This is where the money is yum! Had the cookies and cream and also Amaretto ice cream. It's a big portion good for two people if you wanted to split plates nicely too with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. LOCATION - off a busy street with a big private parking lot and some street parking. An entrance to the bar as well as an entrance to the main restaurant part. INSIDE - tons of seating. The bar area is huge with high tops and bar seating. Next to it through a glass window is the restaurant area with tons of seating. Lots of TVs too! The music was very loud and the music quality terrible so that was I pleasant. Overall I'd be back when I am in the area to try more of the menu. Need to be sure to have quicker service though I don't want to spend that many hours there again unless I'm eating/drinking enough. The food overall was mediocre at best and 2 orders we're wrong. The Salmon was hard as a rock. The reuban had little to no Kraut on it, even after it was sent back and asked for more. Everything fried was very oily like the oil wasn't hot enough. Everything else tasted frozen and warmed in the microwave. The service was incredibly slow even though the place was barely a quarter filled. I've been here before with similar issues, and won't be giving it any more chances. I heard this was a decent place but the wait was too long we never got a chance to try it. The host seated us and we sat there and after about 35 minutes and no waiter we walked out. If I could give this "establishment" 0 stars would. My twin brother, a combat medic is home for Christmas and this place refused to serve us because our id's were not sideways. (Completely legal we are born May 4th, 2003). Shortly after the owner made an exception and allowed my brother to have a beer, I kindly asked that I'd no longer b served a drink and I'd j b having a cigarette outside, the owner than locked the door behind me as I'm smoking my cigarette waiting for my friends and family to finish their beer. This place has left such distaste in my mouth that I actually will be returning, and disputing future charges. 5 stars :) we went for prime rib Thursday night it was delicious ! Not to mention the drinks taste great. The owner and her husband are lovely people. Her husband took all the kids that were dining there [including my son] and brought them to pick out whatever candy they wanted. My son was so happy ! I have been patronizing this establishment for years .. had my sons 1st Holy Communion Party And HS graduation here and have lunch and dinner many times with friends and family ... I have made excuses for the rude unfriendly waitresses long enough! While the owners I can not rave more about ( Brendan and Lynn) the 2 waitresses today who Waited on us many many times I can't say the same: They never greet us with a smile they always look pissed off and miserable. They never make it comfortable for us. When I go out to enjoy a nice dinner or lunch out which I don't get out very much these days I appreciate a waitress or waiter that's going to be nice, friendly and pleasant after all you do work on tips ... if these two waitresses that work for the firehouse are that miserable with their jobs and burnt out then they should not be part of your staff anymore and that's all I'm gonna say!! I love this place and have been going there since I was in high school back in 2000. So yeah a good 23 year in and my friends, family, neighbors all enjoy it there. The owners are nice and I am happy after Covid they are still open! Delmonico steak, medium, mushrooms and mashed potatoes with a soup or salad. Delicious. We had our daughters 1st birthday at The Firehouse yesterday and it was AMAZING! We held it in the banquet room which was a perfect size and had plenty of space for our group of 55. Lynn, Grace, and Brendon are just such wonderful people who worked with us and made our day perfect! The gals who worked our party, I wish I remembered all their names, were FANTASTIC. They would keep me updated on time and when to move on to dessert, singing, etc. so we didn't feel rushed. The food was phenomenal and I had everyone complimenting repeatedly how delicious it all was. I can't say enough great things about this establishment and the people who work there. Thank you guys!!! Late lunch with family. I ordered Firehouse Bacon Cheeseburger, regular fries and Nacho starters. Big portion for a starter is the Nachos with the ground beef and cheese with tomatoes and green chilies, salsa and sour cream on the side. The Firehouse B&C burger serving is huge and the beef patties are juicy and tender. Fresh tomatoes and onions on it too. Clean, dark ambiance and moderately quiet during lunch. However they have one server that is always itching her head, playing with her hair, or wiping her nose. This should not be allowed when dealing with handling customer's food. Pros: plenty of parking, convenient location, extensive menu, entrees come with salad or soup included, classy looking staff well dressed, Irish bartender, food was well prepared, the place is big enough that you don't feel crowded Cons: mediocre beer selection- nothing local or regional (all they need to do is put something from Riverhorse, Kane, or Flying Fish on in place of one of the 15 mass produced beers they have and if be happy), decor in the place left something to be desired with cheap beer signs, mirrors, and clocks hanging everywhere, not just in the bar area, and that there is a banquet facility next door that shares the same entrance, which means all the party goers have to go stand in front of the main entrance to smoke. I will definitely give these guys another try, just wish they bring in at least one local or regional beer- even if it's in bottles. read more

I haven't been here in years when I was passing by and noticed a sign that said Thursday Night Prime Rib $12 so I decided to give it a try. Although it wasn't the best prime rib I have ever had it certainly wasn't the worst and well worth the price. Not only do you get the prime rib but also a choice of potatoes salad and warm crusty bread with butter what surprised me the most was that it also came with a vegetable which in my case was carrots. The service was good, they were quick yet unobtrusive. There's a bar in the front that was pretty crowded but the noise level wasn't such that it disturbed the diners The menu is extensive with moderate pricing and there is plenty a free parking. I have now been to the Firehouse Eatery and Pub a few time and I am convinced that this is one of the better places in the area. When I go to a place multiple times I usually try to get something different every time because I like to try new things and because some places do one dish very well but they may struggle in other areas. The interesting thing is that every time that I have been here I've had the same waitress so I oddly cannot speak to the overall service rather I can only speak to the service of the waitress that I have had. First I will start with the decor and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. It is somewhat dark in the restaurant but not so much that it makes you feel like the place is a dungeon. I would best describe the atmosphere as being relaxed. The decor is heavy in that there is a lot of dark wood and the booths are big. One could say that it is welcoming but I feel like it's a bit much for this era and doesn't flow with the overall theme of the place being called a firehouse. All of that aside the food at the Firehouse is very good. I love to get the French onion soup with my meal because it's hearty and it keeps you warm on the winter days. The first time I was there I tried the chicken parm even though it's not an Italian place. They did a great job and he portion size is pretty generous. The most recent time that I went I got the 3 alarm chicken which is chicken breast marinated in a tomato chili base over rice with either vegetable or soup (I got the French onion of course). That too was excellent and the amount of food they give you is generous for the price that you pay. The prices are pretty fair and most of the entrees are either $11, $14 or $16. For the amount of food that you get and for the quality of the food the prices are very good. There are options on the menu like salmon or steak that are more expensive than the other entrees but that is also to be expected. The service is pretty good and it doesn't really matter whether it is busy or not. The last time I went was on New Year's Eve so there was a smaller staff at dinner time as they were staying open late. Even then the service wasn't bad at all. Back when it was not a holiday the service was much better. Overall I would say the the Firehouse is a quality restaurant in Rahway, NJ and is worthwhile trying out if you're in the area. You really can't go wrong on any aspects when you come here and you will be happy with the price when the meal is over. Holidays are going to be a bit hectic and may affect service by that is to be expected. read more

We asked if the wings were breaded as I'm allergic to wheat and fiance is on a low carb diet. She said yes, and instead of saying do you want to order something else she simply walked away when we were ready to order. We waited a few minutes for her to come back. Placed our orders. Food came, and there was no Russian dressing on my fiance's reuben. We had to flag her down (meanwhile we were the only occupied table in the entire dining room at the time). He asked for the dressing and she said "well they put it on the bread but you ordered it without bread". Okay, we ordered no bread but we didn't order no dressing. A simple oh I'm sorry let me go grab some for you would have been nice instead of passive aggressively suggesting it was our fault what we ordered was missing something. Like we should have known it gets put on the bread. I've had plenty of reubens and the dressing is always on the side or slathered all over the top not put on the bread like butter on toast, but whatever. That's not even the point it was just her attitude. Like the roof could come down and she wouldn't care type person. She did check in a couple times to ask if the food was okay. We never got drink refills but I didn't care at that point. She never came back after that. I started to put my coat on. She was sitting across the room reading a book. She saw me putting my coat on then came over and asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. Little too late for that now I have e my coat on and I'm ready to go. She was semi pleasant after we paid. For the owners, this is the young lady with glasses and a nose ring. The receipt said Christine but I don't know if that's her name or the person who ran our card at the bar. I guess if you're coming here for meh food and to hang out and have drinks it seems like a good place to socialize with friends. It's a huge place, with great decor and a lot of history.
