My fiancé and I stopped in for lunch. The beer menu is HUGE. There's a great mix of all beer types, even ciders and seltzers. They also have a few cocktails. My fiancé had a sour beer that tasted like sangria and I had a sour beer that was a take on mango sticky rice (such a unique beer). My fiancé had a fruity white lager that tasted a bit like a margarita. I had the patty melt with onion rings (up charge) and my fiancé had the steak sandwich with steak fries. Heads up their steak fries are actually potato wedge; still tasty but a pleasant surprised. Both of our sandwiches were delicious. The steak sandwich came with a delicious garlic aioli. Our server was great. She mentioned that a lot of their beer is from Icarus brewing in Lakewood and suggested we check it out. We don't live too close but if we're ever in the area we'll be sure to come back. A lot of the beers were calling my name. A great local place. The ambiance was very nice which had this dark interior upscale-ish vibe to it with a bar near its entrance. Went on a Saturday around 1 pm and didn't need to wait as there were many open tables. Service was decent and attentive. Food: Classic burger with added mushrooms ($upcharge), along with the fries ($) so it was more of a la carte. It was very even when I requested a medium rare burger. A basic burger was a little overpriced with mushroom and steak fries. The steak fries are not your traditional small wedges, as seen in the pictures, they are massive potatoes.... The crispy chipotle sandwich was better tasting where it had enough flavor to it. The artichoke and spinach dip came with warm flatbread. This was alright. Went to walk in and have seat with my friends. It's 11:25am and the place opens at 10am. A scraggly old man comes out of nowhere and doesn't bother to greet properly. He just says "We aren't open and none of you are 21." We are all way above 21, but his bad attitude was not necessary. He could have easily said "hello, welcome may I see your ID's" instead the old man was very rude, I expected better from an establishment that looked nice. He needs to learn how to treat guests a lot better. Will never comeback and after that terrible attitude. read more

On our way to South Jersey to visit family we fell into Maloneys and we were thrilled we did First, place has a great bar ! The bar is well lit , has enuff TVs to give you a score or two but also space to converse and meet people while not TOO BIG so it doesn't feel intimate Once we got to our booth we had a choice of their brunch or main menu. I chose the burger with blue cheese crumbles cooked to request it came on a brioche bun with fixins plus the steak fries .. Well these really weren't steak fries - more like steak potatoes !!! Like full potatoes and they were good! Finally I upscaled my lunch with a $3 charge for a side salad - total bargain ..I've seen other places charge $7 for a salad that size! I honestly couldn't believe the portion/price/quality of the meal! I'm Bryan " Full Portion" and don't tolerate small plates! My wife had the Italian chicken sandwich , I didn't try it but she said it was good and it was big. While searching for some new places to try out, my girlfriend and I came across this establishment. As soon as we walked in, I knew I was going to enjoy this place. They have a massive beer selection here, which is awesome. So many different choices to choose from. After having a few different IPA beers, all which were delicious, we then ordered some food. I went with the NY Sirloin Steak Sandwich. I was very happy with this choice, as it was fantastic. The steak was seasoned well and cooked perfect medium. I really enjoyed this. I went with the tots as my side, and they were pretty good as well. My girlfriend tried the Grilled Tuscan Chicken Sandwich and she enjoyed it as well. Overall, this place has a great vibe. Great atmosphere in this Irish inspired Tavenr/restaurant. Amazing beer selection and tap selection with selections to suit everyone's taste and offer some new experiences for beer lovers. The menu is straight forward but nothing stands out and some dishes are a bit pricey for what they are. Never again! Stopped in Maloney's for lunch today. Ordered the Reuben sandwich. The worst I've ever had. No effort was made for this order. It was dry, hard, cold and the corned beef tasted like it was from the hoof cut! I put my napkin on the plate and shoved the plate forward. The little troll of a bartender, with no personality, took the plate and dumped the sandwich in the garbage, WHERE IT BELONGED! Most servers would ask someone if there was something wrong with the food. Not this specimen. He couldn't have cared less why I didn't eat more than a single bite. I couldn't wait for the check to see if he was going to charge me for it. He did. I paid the bill and left and I won't be going back. If you're looking for a nice meal served by someone who greets you with a smile, I would go elsewhere. Plenty of great restaurants in and around Matawan. read more

***4 1/2 stars*** I love when your second choice ends up being the best choice. The Millennial Chum and I came here for lunch this past Sunday after first walking over to an Italian place down the street that was busy hosting a private event and deciding to go somewhere else less chaotic. Maloney's is pretty non-descript; it's very easy to walk by without really noticing it, and the interior is very dark and honestly kind of drab. We were seated in a booth that could have used an upgrade; you could distinctly feel the springs under the thin vinyl-like material on the seats. Some overall TLC would go a long way here. This is by and large a very positive review though - if they updated the décor and lightened it up so you could see your fellow dining companions and food, this would be perfect. We came directly from metal detecting on the beach and had worked up quite an appetite. I decided to go with the Shrimp Scampi Flatbread ($19), which absolutely hit the spot. Perfect choice; it's a decently-sized entrée that I devoured in a few minutes. And I mean this in the best possible way - it had kind of a naughty Pizza Hut vibe to it when it came to the cheese. You can see the visual similarities in the accompanying picture. Either you're in the mood for that almost mozzy stick thickness, or you're not. It worked here, and the lemon/garlic/parsley seasoning was a perfect complement and reminder that this was more than just a generic cheesy flatbread. Given that I had emotionally prepared and had my heart set on an Italian meal, this was a great way to slightly pivot without actually leaving the genre altogether. The price point might be a LITTLE high, especially for this more blue collar shore area, but it wasn't egregious. The Millennial Chum was in a fairly naughty mood for her standards and got the Margarita Quesadilla ($16), which was warmly received. A piece was nobly offered to me, but I'm not into chunks of tomato (no offense) so the appeal of this particular dish is lost on me. The service was very solid. We were immediately and warmly received by the hostess, the waiter stopped by often to check on us, and we even had a proactive busboy who came by to fill up our waters regularly (metal detecting can leave one parched). Right after we finished eating, the Millennial Chum realized we could catch a movie that was starting nearby in 15 minutes. That would normally be my cue to panic and frantically hail down the nearest employee to expedite the check, etc. No need here. Everyone was on top of their game and we got out of there in time to catch most of the previews (which now apparently run for 30 minutes; that's a little extreme even for someone as pro-trailer as I am). Strong recommend - I haven't found a lot of decent eating options in this area of Jersey, so it's nice to see a high quality restaurant filling the void. read more

Came on a tuesday night with a group if 9 people. Wasn't too crowded, and the waitress made sure we were all taken care of and checked in on us while our food was being prepared. The craft beer menu here is great! Almost got lost looking through it and deciding what to order. For food, I got the veggie quesadilla, which was packed full of veggies and cheese for a tasty and hearty meal. It could have used something a little spicy (maybe on the side) to help balance the cheese flavor, but thats just my taste. A cozy local Irish pub! You can tell that Maloney's is a go-to spot that's well known in the area. I stopped in on St Patty's Day (arguably their most crowded day of the year). Food took forever to come out, but totally expected. All of the servers were super friendly too. You can make a reservation in advance which is probably the only reason we were able to stop in on St Patties Day. We had 3 babies with us and they were able to accomodate high chairs and booster seats with our reservation which was appreciated. There was a special St Patty's Day menu with all of the traditional Irish fare -- fish and chips, corned beef and cabbage, shepards pie, etc. We started off with blarney balls which were stuffed with corned beef and cabbage. Super tasty but a really teeny amount for something like $15 bucks. My shepards pie was a big hit and the meat was super flavorful. The bar is super lively and of course on St Patties Day it was a wild scene. I'd venture to guess that it's usually a pretty crowded spot, especially on a weekend. Definitely a fun vibe! read more

About last night... We were a group of 14 for our monthly get together. First of all I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the amount of beers on tap here. At least 100. Enough to please any beer drinkers appetite. All reasonably priced at about $7-9 each. Made reservations 10 days out this time knowing that it was right before Saint Patrick's Day. Saw on their website about a specials menu for this week. Most (but not all of us) ordered apps and entrees off this menu. Such as Blarney Balls. Which is corned beef,kraut, Swiss balls and Thousand Island. Popular entrees were Bangers & Mash, Fish & Chips ( of course) while I chose the all about the porter sandwich. This had angus brisket of beef with a Founders porter espresso bbq Demi- glace. Very moist and tender. Actually, couldn't finish it which is rare for me. Expect to have leftovers on most entrees especially if you're ordered apps to share. Service by Christian was great. Offering up recommendations for the night's festivities. My first time visiting Maloney's was good but not great. It's a very clean place with a nice atmosphere. Wait staff was super friendly. I ordered a burger and asked for it medium but it was much closer to medium rare so be mindful when you order. We also got my son a cheeseburger (he's 1) and it was medium-medium rare. To me there shouldn't be that much pink when feeding a baby. Perhaps that's just my preference. I believe the kids meal also included dessert but our waitress never offered it. I ordered steak fries as a side and these were not steak fries. These were giant potato wedges that were think and deep fried. They weren't bad but they were what I was expecting. Other menu items say they come with potato wedges so I'm confused as to why these would be called steak fries. I'm not sure I would go back but I wouldn't avoid coming back. I think for a date night it's a great spot. It just wasn't my cup of tea. read more

3.5 stars but I'm rounding up. Maloney's is a nice little local pub with a tremendous selection on tap. Me and my husband came with a group of friends. Our waiter joined together a few of the wobbly bar top tables for us in the front of the restaurant. My husband ordered the steak which was surprisingly really good. The steak was cooked to perfection and really tasty. I ordered the black and blue salad (salad with blackened chicken and blue cheese) which was also really delicious. Both of our dishes were huge! Service was excellent and very friendly. The space is large and casual. Street parking is fairly easy to find. I did feel prices were a tad high (especially for the beers) but I still wouldn't hesitate to return. read more

I stopped in to meet some of my fellow Yelpers to enjoy the camaraderie in a tavern/pub in Matawan Boro. I had been here about five years ago, without much fanfare. Fast forward to now, and they're still not much about the place to get excited about. The company I was with was excellent. The beer selection of local and national varieties was also excellent though very pricy. Why? Maybe cuz they can get it. Maybe when the commuters come off the train in the late afternoon, they stop in and just pay the fare to unwind. I really cannot rate the food here because I really have never here. My nice friends ate, and judging by their meals, no one raved about theirs. As mentioned, my two beers were excellent but $22 w/tip was over the tip. Out of this world!! Nice place very pretty. Must get the mussels in the blue cheese sauce with extra bread. It is to die for.

The restaurant was like 90 degrees and humid with zero air circulation. There are fans above our heads everywhere but they didn't get turned on after complaining twice. My table was visibly dripping sweat and I had to box my food and eat it at home. Our waitress even agreed and said the whole staff was complaining and was so hot that they were hallucinating. So why not turn the fans on? It ruined our experience completely. Food was good at home to be fair and there's a lot of beer, but bring your own fan or order takeout. read more

Stopped in for our regular "mini Yelp event" (6 of us get together every 6 or 8 weeks and go to a different place for drinks and dinner. This place has a great tap list and we had quite a few different beers. Variety is great but the prices are a little high IMHO. Even so, we managed to down 8 beers a martini and a few glasses of the House Cab. We started out with appys for the table and chose Blue Cheese Mussels, Pub Wings and Baked Oysters. All the appys were hot and tasty! When we got around to it we ordered our entrees - Caesar Salad with Blackened Shrimp, two Black and Bleu Salads, a Tuscan Chicken Sandwich, a Bacon Cheddar Burger and Classic Burger with Onion Rings. Our meals came out hot and in a timely manner (the place was quite crowded). No one came away hungry and we didn't have any leftovers.
