I have to give credit when it's due! Last night, my girlfriend and I went out for some food and drinks. She was craving Italian, so we decided on Café Luna--and we're so glad we did. We sat at the bar, and from the moment we arrived, the experience was excellent. The bartender was absolutely amazing--friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly attentive without being overbearing. He made us the most delicious drinks that really set the tone for the night. We ordered our food and everything came out perfectly cooked, fresh, and full of flavor. From the first bite to the last sip, everything exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a relaxed night out. I came here for the first time for dinner on a Saturday night. We made reservations for 6:45pm and I definitely recommend a reservation because this restaurant is popular and I saw plenty of people waiting to get seated. Also from my observation there is no waiting area. There was a crowd of people standing around waiting to be seated. Even with reservations, there was a slight wait, but the hostess told us that we could wait at the bar which we did. While at the bar, I decided to grab a cocktail. I got a cocktail called Hugo which was a muddled and cucumber cocktail with lime Hendricks gin, St Germaine , prosecco, and a splash of soda/ Mint. I'm not much of a drinker so I'm not the best when it comes to my knowledge of alcoholic beverages. But the Hugo cocktail was more of a refreshing cocktail and not very sweet. I personally couldn't finish the whole glass because I started to feel it but again my tolerance may be lower than others. Once we were seated, they brought out some complementary bread. For an appetizer, we decided to split the Margherita pizza. I decided to have a slice of the pizza and it was actually pretty good. For my main entree I got the Pappardelle Bolognese and I definitely recommend it. It was actually very tasty. My sister got the Rigatoni Vodka Gallucci and our friend got the Fettucine Carbonara. I got to sample both of their pasta dishes and both were delicious. So honestly, you can't go wrong with either three of those pasta dishes. This will definitely have to be my go to Italian restaurant in New Jersey. Starting off the service was immaculate from the hostess to the bartender to our waiter. Everyone was very pleasant. Next the food was amazing. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The Margherita pizza was a great way to start off our meal and the portions were enough for three. For our entrees we indulged in the restaurants many selective pasta options. I had the rigatoni and it was to die for. I also took dive into the bolognese and carbonara which were also superb. In a word, just don't. Ok, two words. Big disappointment on all levels. We went for lunch and it was nearly empty. It's a nicely decorated place, no issue there. However, they did not turn the heat on, or barely had it on. We were all freezing! It was literally warmer in the restroom! The food was nicely presented, but the taste was below par. Tiramisu looked amazing, but it was bland and barely sweet. Certainly no espresso nor liquor in it. One coffee came twenty minutes after they brought desert. We ordered veal which was drenched in sauce to cover up a raw tasting piece of meat. The best part was our waiter who was incredibly polite and friendly. The martinis should now be called min-tinis. All of us were taken a back at how much smaller the glass got since the last time. And it wasn't that long ago. The Bolognese was pretty good. The filet filet mignon was not good at all. It was supposed be in a wine reduction sauce, but it tasted like the wine was poured over the meat at the very end of the cooking process - no reduction. We have been going there for years. They used to have a holiday menu and take a deposit. The food on Christmas Eve was always great then. That menu is still posted online, but was not offered to us last evening. My opinion a better one than their regular menu. In the past, the food was always good, but last night was a little disappointing. New cooks? Seems that they removed the shrimp oreganatta from the menu altogether. Update: on Friday, June 20th I visited Cafe Luna and didn't have the best experience. much to my surprise, after my review, I received a call from Marissa, the restaurant Manager. She was extemely appologtic and offered me the opportunity to come back and give them another try. Tonight, I did just that, with no regrets. My bf had the eggplant and was very satisfied; I tried the Halibut and it was excellent. My family went to Cafe Luna yesterday for a party. This restaurant is large and beautifully decorated. They have a beautiful party room. The food was outstanding!! We had Caesar salad which was nice and crisp. Tomato, mozzarella and roasted peppers caprese, tender crispy calamari, delicious mini rice balls and pizza. I had delicious branzino which was in a lemon caper sauce. Delicious! Served with broccoli, string beans with roasted potatoes. I would rate Cafe Luna 3.5 stars. I came today for lunch with some friends. We sat at a high top in the bar area. I was expecting to be served a lunch menu, but apparently there is no lunch menu on the weekend. I was slightly disappointed, but it seemed the rest of my party didn't care, so I brushed it aside. We started off sharing a bottle of the Underwood Rose. For 33$ it was a great price for 4 people to share. The wine was very good and nicely chilled. Shortly after, we got a bread basket. The bread needs a big upgrade. The bread they served was similar to the loaves you get from a typical Italian takeout restaurant- crunchy, almost stale sub bread. It was served aside packets of butter- another downside. For an appetizer we ordered the zucchini sticks because we had a lot of seafood allergies in my party. It was a nice serving, and the quality was above average. For entrees we got the orecchiette with broccoli rabe, truffle oil pizza with arugula, prosciutto and parmesan, penne vodka and chicken parm. All of the entrees were very good! The pizza was very large, and absolutely delicious. There was a nice amount of toppings, and perfect amount of truffle oil. The orecchiette was perfectly flavored as well. The service was ordinary, nothing to write home about. I would definitely come back for a pizza and a drink another time. This was my first time at cafe Luna and the experience was top notch. I came after mask mandates were lifted in NJ so there is no requirement for customers or servers to wear masks. For those still uncomfortable with indoor dining, there is a nice outdoor tent area with lights to still make it a special evening. The food was phenomenal! I came with a large group so we had a variety of appetizers! My favorites were the sweet and sour calamari and the snow crab sushi. Truffle pizza was absolutely amazing with a very strong truffle taste, which I love. I am not one to usually order dessert when out (I am usually already full from dinner) but this dessert platter was soooo good! My husband who is not a huge dessert guy even for seconds of the cheesecake. The tiramisu was very moist and tasty. We came on a Friday night so there was a DJ that came on later in the evening. I ordered the grouper risotto special which was fantastic and paired it with the wonderful Dolce Amaro cocktail (I have had many of the cocktails on their menu and they are all stellar). The food was just ok, served luke warm in a runny tasteless sauce. The tables are crunched together so badly that it made it impossible for even the waiters to serve the food. I would not go back. Lively atmosphere that can get loud. Service was pretty good and attentive with minor hiccups. Asked what type of water, the assistant shared a liter bottle for six of us as if he was serving a bottle of wine. The actual server corrected when we asked for more water. We decided on a bottle of wine by name and bin number. Normally when presented I don't check if it the correct bottle, this time I did and was way off. Again an apology and correct bottle served. Apps were good and tasty. Calamari comes with a traditional marinara or three different sauces. Stuffed artichoke was in a bowl with plenty of a garlicky sauce to dip in Veal chop parmigiana is butterflied and served on the bone, enough to share and comes with pasta. Pork Chop Siciliano is lightly breaded and served with hot peppers and mashed potato and a choice of veggies. Salmon was very good with a Dijon topping also served with a choice of vegetables. The server read the veggies choices and both were ordered with broccoli rabe. Only complaint was the potatoes were cold. There is no children's menu, a side pasta was $12. Price is fine, order was pretty small even for a side. A soda for the child was finished quickly as kids do but he has been to enough restaurants to ask if there are refills. The server said there were and he suggested to bring a carafe so he wouldn't need to keep refilling. Very nice. Check comes we are billed $4 each for the broccoli rabe. Oops I forgot to tell you. Another charge, $10 plus the original charge for the Coke. When pointed out he said he meant to take the charge off, he did for the carafe but not the rabe. A few hiccups but not enough to keep coming back. The food is good and we always enjoy our meal. read more

Went here for an early dinner on NYE. 2 people, pre fixe meal with 2 drinks, $300. The food was disgusting. The baked clams were chewy, the mozzarella in carrozza tasted freezer burned and the main courses were atrocious. The veal was drowned in sauce and was served with what looked like green giant vegetable medley. The pork chop was the lesser of the two evils but equally revolting. This meal was like a meal you would have at THE worst catering hall wedding but at least you get a decent cup of coffee at the wedding. Even the coffee was bad here. It was as if they kept a bin in the bottom of the dishwasher to catch the dirty dish water, and then used it to make coffee. I'm being kind. This was the absolute worst meal I've ever had. Cafe Luna should be ashamed of itself. Zero resemblance to the original Cafe Luna on SI. To be fair, the service was great. If I could give zero stars I would. 1 star is being generous. read more

Ok so before I write this, I want to be clear this review is based on food and service on a Tuesday. The restaurant and bar can be quite loud on a weekend, with adults misbehaving (not the restaurants fault but their reputation). I had the Branzino and my aunt had linguini with clam sauce. Both meals were delicious, and both the price and the portion were spot on. I will return for another meal at Cafe Luna. The servers were kind and courteous, and all of the staff seemed to serve everyone beautifully. We weren't rushed at all and were able to spend time together eating a delicious meal. read more

Wow I had a 60'th Birthday for my wife. Where to begin. Let's start by saying how accommodating the staff was in helping setting up for her surprise party. Let's not forget Sam who went over and beyond in making sure this party was nothing less than perfect. With a fabulous choice of entrées there was nothing left on anyone's plate (note 60 people) The atmosphere was perfect. No doubt this is my new Go To place. Back at it again for another delicious experience. Perfect for the girls night we had. The wait staff is always so attentive, not to mention super friendly. We started with cocktails before we placed any food orders and the waiter was very understanding knowing we needed the first 20min to do a quick catch up. I love the cocktails here - the martinis are to die for! We shared some of the specials appetizers and had our own dinners. Each dish we had was better than the next. It was a busy Saturday night but not too busy where we needed to give up our table. We drank and pretty much ate our way to the end of the night. We finished the night with the olive oil cake.
