Beautiful space, excellent Mexican food, and great service. My family brought me to Mezcal as a surprise, and we were all really impressed. From the moment you walk in, the restaurant makes a great first impression. The décor is beautiful and upscale, but still inviting and there are plenty of great spots for social media pictures. We started with a few lighter appetizers, but they ended up being more than enough. We shared three sets of tacos: the fish, pork, and short rib. Each order comes with two tacos, which makes them perfect for sharing and trying different flavors. The esquites were also really tasty and all paired very well. My daughter had a cheese quesadilla, which she absolutely loved. For drinks, I went with an Old Fashioned (my go to classic) while my wife ordered the "Clock It" mocktail. Both were solid choices. I also appreciated that they brought out boxed water for my daughter, which was a nice touch. What really stood out to me, though, was the service. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing and made sure we were taken care of throughout the meal. There's also a fairly large bar right at the entrance, so you don't necessarily have to come here for a full meal. I could easily see Mezcal being a great date-night spot or a place to grab drinks and enjoy the atmosphere. There's also plenty of parking in the back, which is always a plus. Overall, I'd definitely come back. Next time, I want to try some of the main dishes. However, the hype and expectation far surpassed the actual experience. We had an early reservation. And among the first guests. The woman host was very nice she tried to seat us at a table right near the entrance and we asked to be moved to a booth by the large art pieces more center to the dining area. Was sexy and very dark. Our server was nice and we ordered fancy drinks. It was cute but the drink was nothing amazing. Second drink I got a nice pour of high-end tequila, much much better. Octopus appetizer was slightly undercooked and a little mushy. Came with several house made sauces and none which were memorable. Nothing to turn my nose at but not even close to what I was expecting. We also had the market oysters and they were oysters ‍. We ordered the rib cap experience. Underwhelming experience and a skirt steak. But steaks were cooked perfectly. And their Mac and cheese, rib cap came with mash. All good, not great or amazing. Bathroom was not the cleanest either. Water all over the counter and toilet paper on the floor. The diner that would fly... at a 5 star restaurant, I couldn't believe it and they had really just opened for the day. Wow! What an amazing place. As soon as you walk in the doors, you are greeted by some very friendly hostesses . There is a fairly large sit down bar located to the left of the entrance with table's surrounding each side, which opens to a larger dining area. We started off with two Pyro shots, Tequila D's Nuts and for The Gram ( delicious) they all came out with special effects which was a cool ! We decided to go with all appetizers to give several menu items a try . The caviar was superb and the Peruvian Sashimi is definitely a must try that cream sauce they pour onto it was absolutely delicious. Grilled octopus was good ( could have been charred a tad more ) but the sauces that accompanied it complimented it well . The beef tartar had great flavor and creaminess from the egg pulled it all together. The Short Rib tacos were good but missing something ( maybe a salsa verde ) the pickled onions gave it a boost . We also tried the Mexican salad which the dressing was good but it could have used that char to the lettuce. All in all our appetizers were exceptionally good ! Since it was my sister's bday we ended the night with the Churros which were tasty but would have preferred the ice cream on the side so we could enjoy the crispy churros! Inside is gorgeous and feels like a club, with a nice lobby, beautiful interior, and a live DJ playing great music. The DJ was so good we actually asked if people dance, but our server said it wasn't really that kind of place. Honestly, it's rude for the music to be that good then. Service was excellent. Drinks and waters were refilled all night. My favorite cocktail was For The Gram. It was very balanced and came with a sage joint. It's not the kind of spot you'd notice just walking by, but clearly people know about it. Loved the vibes too, crowd was a great mix of ages and the whole place just felt inviting. My husband and I love going to the sister restaurant 618 and finally were able to snag a reservation for Mezcal. The indoor decor is like a modern lounge and the bar is impressive with the wrap around fire. We were seated at a small table for 2 near the bar. I wish there was a bit more clearance area between the bar and our table. As when there is a large group standing around the bar and being rowdy, it almost feels like they are on top of you and bumping into your chair. We ordered the no bullshit drink which they light on fire and it was quite a show. It was the perfect balance of spicy and sweet. The appetizer we decided on was the seasonal ceviche and honestly we were very disappointed. Not only was the portion size small (done in 2 large bites), it was lacking flavor. I think it needed more salt as well as citrus tang. I think a big factor was that the mango inside the ceviche wasn't ripe. We decided to go all out on the entree and got the Tomahawk steak for 2 Oaxacan style. This dish also came out on fire, I feel like there's a theme here with fire, haha. Our favorite dipping sauce that accompanies the dish was the homemade chimichurri sauce. My husband was a huge fan on the street corn while I loved the creamy mashed potatoes. My only concern was that our steak had a lot of tendon in this particular cut. This meant about a 1/4 of the steak was inedible and chewy. I was a bit upset over this because based on the price you would assume you would receive the best cut of meat and be able to eat the whole thing. We were celebrating a birthday and the waiter brought out a ice-cream cupcake free of charge. My favorite part was that he didn't make the restaurant sing happy birthday. He just handed us the cupcake, said happy birthday, and went on his merry way. It seems this restaurant wants to put a wow factor on their dishes for social media and influencers. Many items come out on fire, are revealed from lanterns, have dry ice on them, just presentation decisions meant for taking pictures or videos and posting. Mezcal is a vibe, as the kids would say. It's buzzing and bustling, and for a minute, I wasn't sure whether I was at Old Bridge, NJ, or a happening Midtown spot. We went in around 8 p.m. without reservations, and the earliest table was available at 9:30 p.m. The bar (it is huge) was full, but we snagged two seats within half an hour. They had Happy Hour on when we went (8-10 on Mondays), which explained the crowd, although it looked like this place was as always busy. We ordered some drinks and bites off the HH menu - the drinks we tried (Margarita and Pistachio Martini were good, albeit a tad too sweet). Their complimentary chips (fried in beef tallow) were a nice touch. The fish (halibut) tacos were great, and esquites were okay, a bit too much dressing for my liking. We only ordered the skirt steak and whipped potatoes for the main course - and this was what really disappointed. The steak (medium rare) was really chewy, and the two of us didn't finish it. I'm not sure we let it sit out too long, but a steak house not getting pricey steak right isn't a good look. We went way past closing time, and our bartender took forever to give us our check, and never came back for it. Another bartender took care of it much later, after many attempts of trying to flag someone down. I understand the long hours and the various tasks that need attending at closing time, but leaving customers unattended for this long felt very frustrating. Overall - amazing ambience, good drinks, promising food, and service that left us wanting - I might try Mezcal again to give them another shot, but this night failed to leave a mark on me. read more

Popped into Mezcal for surprise bday dinner and the staff were so accommodating to our shenanigans. They made this review a 4 stars. We went crazy and ordered family style. We ordered Queso Fundido, Braised Citrus Pork Tacos, Short Rib Tacos, Achiote Fish tacos, Filet Mignon, Halibut, and Lobster Paella Risotto!! Everything was pretty good. My favorites were definitely the queso fundido and the halibut. All the flavors on the halibut dish paired soooo well together. I didn't care for the Risotto or most of the tacos though. It was excellent- I didn't have any comparison but now this set the bar. The drinks were amazing throughout the night and we also ordered the octopus which was perfectly grilled with great texture; a few pieces leaned salty, but overall deliciousss. We ordered the porterhouse medium. I stayed mostly with the pink center pieces since my husband prefers well done. One piece was a bit chewy for me but I grabbed from a few other places- all fantastic! My husband's cuts "melted in his mouth" and the filet side truly was buttery and tender. As I'm writing my salivary glands just activated lol: The potatoes were hot, crispy, rich, and decadent. I even made a nice potato, steak and eggs the next morning from the left-overs . But wait... can't drop this mic without talking about the flan... hands down the BEST flan I've ever had (and I have a Dominican aunt), so that says a lot. Here's really what I loved... We were celebrating our anniversary and received a beautifully handwritten scroll at the table, which was such a thoughtful touch. It's details like that that separate this group from many restaurants in the area. The hospitality feels elevated... very much new-age fine dining where the experience matters just as much as the food. Where do I start! We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. There is parking available behind the restaurant. You walk into this beautiful hallway that leads to the bar. This place is beautiful the aesthetics is outstanding. We were a party of six and our server was amazing explained everything from the drinks to the food items. We started off with a cosmo each and ordered 2 appetizers the guac and the octopus, both were very good. There's the main menu, the prix fixe "Día de los Muertos" menu (available Oct 24-Nov 10), the specials, the drinks, and the dessert menu. Choices for days! I went classic and ordered from the standard menu: crab cakes to start and the lobster "paella" risotto as my main: both absolute winners. Drinks? Their tequila-based Old Fashioned is a must-try. Smooth, smoky, and dangerously sippable. Dessert? Don't even think twice; get the double churros topped with three scoops of gelato and a cloud of whipped cream. It's indulgent, shareable (if you must), and worth every last calorie. I could've easily taken that dessert down solo because, let's be honest, dessert always has a place in my tummy. We recently had our wedding anniversary at Mezcal. The service, atmosphere and overall friendliness of the staff was top notch. The food at the price left a little bit to be desired. However thanks to our gracious and thoughtful server Sam, it was still a memorable experience and we will be back someday. The maitre'd offered so we had a quick tour of the restaurant before sitting down. A very cancun-y resort feeling came over us but in a good way. Mezcal is upscale and it reminded me of the nice scenes we've seen in Mexico. It definitely wasn't a cheap tex mex type of place... though we like those too. The first thing we got was tortilla chips. Our waitress Sam told us they were made with beef tallow to make it a little healthier. I chowed down but the chips were a little stale. Not fresh made and still piping hot like at our favorite Mexican restaurants. The next was the fuego sol mocktail. Very sour yet tasty. It was a winner. We shared it. They were thoughtful enough to give 2 straws. Next, skirt steak tacos. They were pretty good. Accompanied with red onions and avocado and tasty steak. Whether it was worth the $25 price tag for 2 tacos is up to the diner. I didn't think so. We then had the octopus appetizer. Also not great. The tentacle was slightly small and a little bit burned. The accompanying potatos were excellent however. Not worth $33. Next was our main, the porterhouse for 2. We ordered it medium rare but it unfortunately came out medium to medium well. It was good quality meat though. It was unfortunate that most of the filet mignon was well done. We ordered the steak with the delicious chimmichurri sauce and a side of butter whipped potatoes. That potato side was my favorite part of the meal. The portion was big and it was delicious. It was a good value at 13 bucks. The dessert was a ginormous dish of gelato stuffed churros for 2. It was really good. The churros were warm and delicious and the yummy ice cream on top made for a delicious a la mode treat. As mentioned, Sam was a perfect server. Came to mezcal for the first time for a date night & we both left blown away! Mezcal checked every box for us. Starting with the tour when we first entered, the restaurant itself is beautiful and they clearly take pride in it. The different sections, the bar, the art work, all of the little hidden details we wouldn't have noticed otherwise we were really impressed. Sat down at what I felt was the perfect table for date night, a corner table/booth tucked away in the back of the I believe it's called the agave room. Mike G was our server & gave above and beyond service! Food was worth the hype and more. Guacamole + 3 salsas was great, and when my wife said she had a favorite of the 3 salsas Mike came with a larger portion of her favorite one! Drinks were great, she had the traditional margarita & I had the good behavior mocktail. I always give extra points for speciality mocktails on a menu it really matters to me & the good behavior delivered. For dinner the tomahawk for 2, mashed potato's & asparagus. All 5 out of 5 starts for us. Maybe the best steak we've ever ordered out & we've been to many steakhouses, in Jersey, in the city & even out of state. Overall we are extremely impressed with Mezcal, its local for us but yet it feels like somewhere we'd have to travel to go to (for what it's worth we would travel for mezcal if it wasn't local!). An upscale dining experience. A large venue with its own parking lot. From the exterior to the bathrooms, every thing about this place has a modern trendy vibe with a Mexican theme. Definitely would be out of place dressed down here. Staff were extremely friendly and fun, very charismatic. The food was amazing. It's a pricey place, but you absolutely pay for what you get. This place is all about the experience. There was a DJ who played a great mix of music & the volume was not loud at all. A good volume, but we could still have a normal casual conversation. Food wise we had For The Gram, ¡No Manches!, Papas A La Mezcal, Esquites, Roasted Heirloom Carrots, & 10oz Skirt Steak. The stand outs were 'For The Gram' & '¡No Manches!' which are both specialty drinks from their drink menu, the Esquites which is a spin on Elote off of the cob, & the absolute winner was the Papas A La Mezcal. If all I had gotten was that I would have been completely satisfied. The flavor blend and texture blend was perfection. The skirt steak, to which I added 'Cowboy Butter,' perfect!! Overall this place is worth a visit for a nice Date night or Anniversary. Decor is beautiful. Bar is super cool with fake flames. Their cocktail menu is impressive! Food is great. My favorite was the esquite on the app menu. Get your steak for two oaxacan style. Service is good. read more
