I specifically came here because I kept seeing social media posts about their bar pie and I just had to try it. It is very off the beaten path, an old timey, local pub. I can't tell if the theme is western or nascar haha. There wasn't a hostess so we just picked a table to sit. We came here on a Sunday at 5:30 PM. Good thing we came early because by the time we left around 7:00 PM it was absolutely packed. My husband and I got bacon and pepperoni on our bar pie. They don't skimp on the toppings and the cheese pull is pretty good. The crust is nice and thin and reminds me of Frederici's in Freehold. The pizza was a bit oily but nothing a blotting napkin can't fix. One thing we were really surprised by was the Spinach and Artichoke dip. Not only does it come with tortilla chips but also a fresh crusty bread roll for dipping. The dip was so creamy and delicious, almost like a soup. We loved it! If we have a hankering for some pizza pie or dip we will return. read more

This was my first time going to this place. I called up to ask how much a large pie was. I was told the large is $14.95. I placed the order and when I got the pizza it was a 12-inch pizza. I told the lady behind the bar that I ordered a large and not a small pizza. She told me it was a large. Really? She should have told me over the phone a large is 12 inches. Normal pizza places consider a large 16 inches and a small would be 12 inches. That was disappointing. I figured the pizza probably is good anyway. I have to say this was not my favorite pizza. I've had better. This pizza tasted like a frozen pizza from the supermarket. The crust was suggy. It was disappointing. I will not be going there again and do not recommend the pizza. They should also let people know if they call for a large that they will be really getting a small 12-inch pizza. read more

The name says it all, it's a very open General Saloon with a little western vibe to it. Music is not too loud, nor the TVs, nor the crowd for the most part. You can certainly people watch from the edge of the bar and listen to a lot of conversations happening all at once because of the open nature of the place. Went there for a date with food & drinks. The bartender kept checking in on drinks, though didn't always hear me correctly the first time around. Not too big a crowd and certainly cleared out by the 10 PM hour. We have been here a few times. Went for Happy Hour and appetizers. We ordered the Pretzel, and it was HUGE, enough for 3 or 4 people to split. We also really enjoyed the cheese sauce provided. Also went here late night a few times. We have always had quick friendly service. While it does say the bar is open until 2am, they do close early if there are only a few people in the bar. I mostly get the same thing here, but I've never been disappointed: the Jersey Burger, it has an over easy egg, Taylor Ham and cheese. They have a fully stocked bar, but when I'm in the middle for a regular beer, I go for the banquet beer, not too many spots have it. The ppl that work there are always friendly, the place is always clean and the service is always timely. Order A LOT of take out here on a bi monthly basis for parties and such. Each order is $175+ and we continue to order because the food is decent. That stops today: My son and I went there to try the place after his karate since my wife was out with friends. We walked in a few tables were occupied but by no means busy. We sat there for at least 15 minutes and were not acknowledged. Two tables walked in after and they were helped as soon as they sat so we walked out and were given a dirty look by one of the waitresses. I'd say it was fine. My brother took me here, and I maybe just ordered wrong. He suggested the wings, and ours were torched. Feel like they were left in the frier(?) for 10 minutes too long. But, the wait staff were great, and the beer menu was really well balanced, got a Hershey beer which made my nephew laugh. Got some waffle fries and they were delicious. Good vibes in the place, and folks seemed to jazzed on their pizzas. We visited here for dinner 2 weeks ago. Laid back atmosphere, the servers are very attentive and food delivery promptly. The food was ok, the cheesesteak spring rolls were really good, the calamari appetizers were soooo bland, no seasoning at all. The drinks were really good. My shrimp parmigiana sandwich was just ok. For now I am going with 3 stars.....I may go back during the week to re-evaluate. I will set the scene...Friday night with 3 other couples. We originally had plans to hit point pleasant to see the Amish Outlaws At Martells. Unfortunately Martells cancelled the event due to the cold weather.....seriously? We are Jersey Strong! In any case we settled on the General Saloon as its close to home and they had a DJ for the evening. The place had a great crowd, the place has approximately 6 regular tables with the balance being high tops. Long bar....with a decent variety of beer and alcohol. Definitely a rustic motif with a log cabin style interior. The jukebox was playing 80s Rock. Wings, Pizza, Salad, Beef tips and loaded waffle fries were good ordered. Wings were solid, would have been better with the sauce on the wings but one of our table mates requested the sauce on the side, the spicy BBQ wing sauce was great. The pizza had good reviews but I abstained. The beef tips were Cajun style served with Horseradish cream sauce, the sauce was great, the tips not so much. Tough and chewy is the best description. The salad with apples nuts and grilled chicken was quite good. The waffle fries were good according to my table mates. Cocktail service was very good, our waitress was very attentive. Jack Daniels on the rocks was a solid pour for $6.50. Friends of mine killed the bottle of Macallan and were offered another higher end scotch....$12 a clip. Other mixed cocktails were in the $7.50 range, very reasonable. The seating is tight, constantly asked to move in, stand up etc. For reasons unknown, the DJ came on and cranked 70s thru 90s rock and Disco. The music was so loud you could barely hear your neighbor talk. We left about 45 minutes in because it was just too damn loud. Definitely a locals bar, crowd ages from 25 thru 65. I will likely go back during the week as on Mondays it's half price pizza, Tuesday is half price burgers (which looked great from a distance) and Wednesday is all you can eat wings for $11.99 Happy hour is 4-6pm during the week with drinks specials and discounted appetizers. I really do like the General Saloon . I love the Ambiance and the service is great . But I'm not sure if they got a new cook or what . Was just there for lunch with some friends who I haven't seen since grammar school/high school and one asked me what was I going to get and I told her the meatball parm . So she also got it . It was the worst meatball parm I've ever had . It literally had 1 meatball cut in 1/2 on each side of the sandwich ( I opened it up to look ) and they were small . Maybe 1 piece of parmesan cheese spread out and pretty much no sauce at all. And no it wasn't because the sauce soaked into the bread there wasn't any . Price was $13.99 . I was totally embarrassed when my friend said " you think this is good ? There is nothing on it ! ". I agreed and apologized. These friends lived in Old Bridge when we were growing up and was excited to be back in the old neighborhood where we all lived and have lunch at a place everyone remembered as kids ( different owners ). One friend got the personal pizza and loved it and another ordered one to take home . Like I said " I love the saloon " but I will NEVER order another parm sandwich there again . I ordered take out because I really wanted french onion soup and I love burgers. Wife had the coconut shrimp, and we did the mac and cheese for the kiddo. Loved the mac and cheese. I wish they had a smaller size on the kids menu, but nothing wrong with leftovers. The sliced chicken on top was odd, but whatever. My french onion soup kinda sucked, which is a let down. The onions were not done properly, and there was no crouton/bread in the soup, only cheese. Skip that. Everything else was great. Wife's shrimp were nice and crunchy. Sauce was a little vinegar-y, but not terrible. My burger was buttery and delicious. Nice thick patty, cooked medium. Nothing wrong there. Overall, I'm a fan of the food.
