Customer service wasn't bad, but the cleanliness was a major issue. The shop had a funky, unclean smell that immediately made me question how the food was being handled. The toppings weren't properly covered and were stored in bowls instead of temperature-controlled containers, which didn't seem sanitary. I almost didn't order, but I did--and after one bite, I had to spit it out. The meat didn't taste fresh, and the sandwich actually tasted like the same funky smell in the store. My brother-in-law told me that there was a sub place near our house, so I decided to come here and give it a try. It's in a small little plaza off of Lincoln highway. Price: The subs here are cheap and are less than $7 for a half sub. You can get a decent price of $10 to $12 with chips and a drink. The staff: The staff member that makes the subs is friendly and remembers your order. Honey Ham with Swiss Cheese: This is my favorite sub but sometimes they do not have the honey ham. The bread is soft, and the honey ham tastes delicious here. The Swiss cheese with mayo makes this sub taste so much better. Super Sub: This sub is also delicious if you put mayo instead of the oil and vinegar. The sub does not come out soggy like other sub places. This place is great. I had never heard of it until I was tagged in a social media post. They have about a dozen sandwiches on the menu as well as the owners famed chicken salad recipes (maple, jalapeño, etc) which change daily depending on how he feels and sell it by lunchtime. It's like the "Soup du jour". Their ingredients are free and I love the bread. It held together even when my sub got a bit messy (I like a lot of condiments. Mayo, mustard, pepper spread.) I had the honey turkey sub and it was loaded. The owner was correct. You can only eat half in one sitting . Plus there are a few tables indoors and outdoors for you to sit and enjoy your sub. Move over jersey mikes, I found a hidden gem sub shop. Every sub is made with fresh and their macaroni salad is good. Definitely coming here again for all nba and nfl game days. Super Bowl game day is a nightmare no matter where you order so just come during lunch time and ask for the oil and vinegar on the side so your subs isn't soggy later on when you want to eat it. Parking is available as it's a shared lot with other businesses. They do close early so don't come late. read more

Subcentral is one of those sandwich shops that just gets it done. They make a good sandwich that kind of reminds me of jersey mikes. All ingredients were freshly sliced and the bread was nicely made. Came here during my lunch break from work to try out one of their sandwiches. Good amount of parking spaces offered here, so parking not an issue. I ordered the Roast Beef Sub sandwich, as that is the one that caught my attention most. My sandwich was made fresh and quick, which was awesome. Staff was friendly. Once I started eating my sub, it was amazing. The meat was delicious. And all the toppings added into the sandwich blended together perfectly. I loved the roast beef. I believe they used boars head meat, which isbmy favorite kind. Overall, I really enjoyed my sandwich and will be coming back to try different ones out. read more

Delicious, perfectly assembled, friendly service, nice location, super nice owner, and did I mention HUGE subs? That is what you get here at Subcentral. I got a 1/2 #4 and it was ENORMOUS. Piled high with delicious meats (they use Boar's Head), on a crusty and chewy sub roll, with lettuce, tomato, spices, red wine, and vinegar. The prices are fair, and you walk out satisfied. The roll is *almost* perfect. When I brought this little nugget of a suggestion to the owner, he knew it too, because he has said that he has been there when it tastes perfect, except on weekends it just misses the mark. Everything else on the sub was spot on. It could easily overtake Jersey Mike's in a sub competition, and I think it is a much better sub than Tastee Subs. Be ready for a happy tummy afterwards, because the freshness of all the ingredients make for a delicious sub. The sub shop is easy to get to off of Route 1. It is also close by the hospital (JFK Medical), and not terribly far from the Menlo Park mall. For commuters, it is not far from the Metropark train station, so those looking for a quick lunch or dinner before or after your train ride can get it. But it might be hard to get one of these during rush hour given the shop is literally off of Route 27. That is why I would wait to come back. But trust me, these subs are worth the wait. read more

I only got a few things to say about this sub shop. If you haven't tried this place then you don't know what you have been missing. I have been going here for a few years now since moving to the area and this place is well kept secret. All subs are made to order fresh and a local owned place. The meats are deli cut slices and you can add any toppings you like. Small store front located on 27, if you don't look for it then you might have drove past it. So, I went to another well-known sub shop and was totally grossed out by my sandwich. My cousin suggested I stop here on my way out of town because it would be plenty of food for the plane. She was not kidding! The sandwich was cut into fourths and there was SO much! Extremely generous portion for a very fair price. The same amount of sandwich at home would've easily cost me double. This was my Yelp Night Out pick. I was the only one in the place at a time that was close to closing. I am giving them 5 stars because they're still open during this pandemic and they are a resource for the local medical community.. Mike, the owner, mentioned that they are able to provide lunch boxes to the local hospitals at a lower rate through donations, which made me happy. He stays open even when other patrons die down just in case they need to feed the medical staff. So, hats off to their efforts during this time. Oh yeah, subs were delicious. Great Sub Shop! Walked in on a chilly sunny Tuesday to get some lunch and was greeted by a polite older gentleman to order. I was then enthusiastically asked if I was interested in trying some samples of their new chicken salad, indeed I was. After trying three samples, I really enjoyed the second one (jalapeño lime I believe) and asked if I could get a sandwich with it inside. I got it with everything, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc, and a dr. browns black cherry soda. The whole meal was amazing, the bread was really good, savory, and soft. The chicken salad was generously spread inside it and tasted even better with the fresh veggies which made every bite pleasurable. Found this place by accident while driving around Iselin/Edison. Order 2 sandwiches and chips with soda. They were half subs but they were so good and generous. Less than a mile from my house, these sandwiches always satisfy my family. We have half of our subs from yesterday in the fridge. Did I mention that they are very big, and they never skimp on the extras. The owner is a great guy, and he is very generous with his time and food. His charities vary every month. I have to mention the soups. The owner travels into New England to get the most delicious soups I have had in a very long time. Highly recommended. The menu is simple, but has everything anyone would want for a sub shop. Try getting a lunch special sometime. A half sub, drink, and small potato or mac salad for about $7. Hard to beat. I thought it was just me that sensed the "vibes" from subcentral but looking at the reviews noticed that my experience was similar to others. The gentlemen behind the counter was extremely sarcastic, rude, and not very helpful at all. The menu on the outside of the venue was a little different than that inside so naturally I had a few quick questions. He acted as is I was inconveniencing him (even though when I entered the store was empty). There was a lady assisting him there and she was very polite and helpful (she was the only reason I didn't just walk out). I couldn't help but notice the difference in his interaction with an older patron after I had placed my order. Went there yesterday to try it out and got the #4 The super sub combination. Ham, salami, capicola,prosciuttini, and cheese. Oil, vinegar,oregano, onion and lettuce and I added chipotle mayo. Got the whole and this thing is Huge! The bread was good and soft and the deli meats were fresh. Really liked the sub was really good look forward to trying more. I'm new to the Edison area and heard many great things about Subcentral. I decided to stop by today for lunch and instantly regretted my decision. I walked in to an empty store and was not greeted by the employee. I initiated the conversation by saying hello, even though I found it very rude to not greet your customer. After the employee barely said hello back he just stared at me. I informed him that I was unsure of what I wanted and needed to look at the menu. He then shrugged his shoulders and said okay. I felt very uncomfortable and decided to leave opposed to spending my money after not being properly welcomed. Similar to another comment, it gave racist vibes, unfortunately.
