Still great after all these years. This is my favorite spot for sandwiches. I visit this spot whenever I visit home to get my fill of Italian subs. I usually get classic cold Italian sandwiches but I have also had their hot subs. They have a huge menu of subs with some very creative options. They only have one sit in counter. Since COVID, they pretty much converted it to a take out operation. This is cash only. They are kinda "soup-nazi" (from Seinfield) like when there is a long line; you better know what you want to keep the line moving. The guys are pretty nice otherwise. read more

I love a good "fat" sandwich. My fiancé found this place after some googling/yelping and I knew we had to go. We had the superkick and birdman sanders. Both were so good. Huge portions for a great price. He ordered on the spot and it was less than a 20 minute wait. The menu is HUGE. There's something for everyone. Awesome little sub shop! First time going here but it definitely seems like it's a staple in town! Small spot with a lot to choose from. There's no seating inside and it's cash only but the amount of special sandwich options they have are endless. You get a lot of food for a really good price too, I got a half of a linsanity which is a grilled chicken sub with bacon and a drink for $10. So much flavor in the chicken and great size sub. The lettuce, tomato & onion on it also seemed very fresh. Quick service too, I walked in and placed my order that was for a grilled chicken (not a deli meat sub you can pump out quick) and it was ready in a few minutes. They also have homemade noodle salad, potato salad and coleslaw as well as homemade desserts like brownies and banana bread. Super friendly employees, definitely would recommend stopping in for a sub or grabbing a bunch of food for a party or day at the beach. read more

Subs are always delicious no matter which you order, the service is great. The time waiting is usually 20-25, on the longer side for 3+ sandwiches. Neatly packed. I don't really carry around cash that much but this place is so good its worth stopping by the bank before. I recommend calling ahead of time, its what most people do. I only docked for atmosphere because you cant eat inside realistically, its just 3-4 seats and its a very small area. Definitely a take out spot. read more

I've lived in the area for many years and I've never heard of Big Wally's until I saw it featured as the #1 sandwich place in the country in an online article - I don't remember which one it was, but I knew I had to come check it out. My first experience lived up to the hype! Two things that stand out are the extremely extensive menu with every combination imaginable, and the fact that it's cash only. Bring cash, there is no ATM. The number of options on the menu is amazing, but it left me with choice paralysis! I wanted to try one of everything but eventually settled on the Birdman. Chicken cheesesteak, pork roll, pepperjack cheese, peppers, onions, and honey mustard. It was so, so good, lots of great flavors! Plenty of honey mustard but not too much so it didn't get soggy. It was busy on a Friday lunch hour but my food came out in ten minutes. The staff was friendly and had a certain old school Jersey charm. The price as very reasonable, too, 9 bucks even. I'll definitely be coming back to try more. read more

Wow wow wee wa(lly). This is good stuff. Picked up two wraps after Liquid Sayreville service which is right down the road. Cash only establishment and greeted by one of the employees stocking the fridges as I explored the massive menu. luckily I had just enough in my pocket for two wraps to take home. I forgot the names of the wraps, but I got one with beef and one with chicken and I was very happy with how saucy these wraps were! Overall, very filling, tasty and already craving the next time I can come back and try their actual sandwiches. I'm eyeing the Tombstone already. Big Wally's was an interesting experience. There are so many subs to choose from! My husband got the Buffalo Sheneineheimer and I got the Appetizer. We saw the great reviews so wanted to visit. The reason for the 3 stars is as follows: the bread is the type of cheap bread you get from an Italian take out place. When you use bad bread for sandwiches, it ruins the whole taste. In my sub, it was grilled chicken, prosciutto, Asiago cheese, and roasted peppers on garlic bread. After the great reviews, I was very excited for this sandwich. However, I was disappointed. The grilled chicken and prosciutto were chopped up and mixed together in the sandwich. I was expecting nice chicken cutlets and slices of prosciutto. Very disappointed. Also, you could barely taste the garlic bread. As for my husband's sub, he enjoyed it. But it did taste like cheap chicken meat in a saucy blue cheese. Probably skip this place next time. read more

Looking for a sandwich shop in town and came up with Big Wally's... A friend who lives local highly recommended this place. It's a little awkward to say the least. Here's the deal. It's probably helpful if you're been to this sub shop before. But I haven't been living in town all that long. Anyways, you're not allowed in these days so just grab a menu , place your order and wait in your car. They'll bring it right over pretty quick ( less than 10 minutes) today. For takeout sammies ordered up two for lunch. They were MC Hammer for me, hot with London broil, mutz, pesto sauce on garlic bread on an 16 inch hero. So good, only could finish half . For the Mrs., a cold wrap called a Russian. This had roast beef, Munster cheese, cold slaw,lettuce, tomato, onion and thousand island dressing. Leftovers on her end, yet again. She mentioned that it was very good and looking forward to finishing it up tomorrow. That's rarely happens. She'll usually let me have a taste. Not this time. They are a cash only business and the parking lot was pretty crowded, so try to call first or have a menu handy. Glad to see this place thriving, even in these uncertain times. read more

Great subs. We ordered a massive amount of food for a family of 12. I'm always afraid with such a large order something will undoubtedly go wrong. Not this time.
