    Veggie Spring Roll

Came here for some dinner on Wednesday evening. I ordered the chicken inasal, chicken teriaki, veggie spring rolls, chicken lumpia, ube cookies, ube cheesecake, and the regular burnt cheesecake. Everything took about 40 min to prepare fresh. The food was good and flavorful. The ube cheesecake was the best thing.

We visited them after a party nearby. They have a small parking lot so you may need to be lucky when you visit. Ordered a few items and drinks. Overall good food, ok service. Takes a long time from ordering to table. Music choice *thumbs up* Will give them a try but not anytime soon. CORRECTION: Please read owner's reply. 5% DISCOUNT when using cash over $30

When it takes awhile to get your food, that's because it's being cooked fresh! Never mind the time it takes, you can always chat with the friendly owner and the ever-smiling staff, this hole-in-the-wall Filipino restaurant is simply one of the best in homemade cooking! A good reminder from the owner, he recommends that we call in the orders even if we're still miles away to avoid the long wait time. It was so worth the wait anyway! Their dishes are simple, yet well thought of. Not salty, not too sweet, just a good balance of mouth-watering dishes! We keep coming back even if we're miles away Highly recommended - their tapas, longanizas served with hot rice and side salads, tasty noodles and yummy desserts make this one of the best food trips ever!

We ordered the crispy pork platter which is good for 4-6 people and got mangomansi. I loved the mangomansi it was very refreshing. Crispy pork platter came with 12 pcs of lumpia, pork sisig, lechon kawali, and garlic rice. The sisig was ok for me. It is small inside so not much seating inside. They had no bathroom as well.

This spot is quickly becoming one of my weekly go-to's. I have ordered from them three times and each time has been yum. My favorite dish is their chicken teriyaki, it's different than other restaurants, not too sweet with a nice char on the chicken. They also serve it on a bed of rice, with Cesar salad and a fried egg on the side. Both pictures are of the teriyaki chicken, one was eaten in house, one was take away. I'm looking forward to trying more of the dishes on the menu, I'm sure they'll also be good.

One of my go-to Filipino food places is the Plain and Simpol in Metuchen. I love the cozy vibe of their small dining area, and the staff are always welcoming and friendly. We started with the hot ube latte and the iced leche flan latte. I preferred the ube latte since it wasn't too sweet, while the leche flan one was a bit on the sweeter side. For food, I got the Shanghai, salmon sisig, pork longanissa, and chicken teriyaki. You really can't go wrong with the Shanghai, longanissa, and chicken teriyaki as they were all flavorful and satisfying. I wasn't a big fan of the salmon sisig though; it wasn't as crispy as I expected. Overall, I'll definitely be coming back. The dine-in service is pretty good, and it's nice that they have a free parking lot too.

Food - so good and quick order in advance via door dash. Love the salad side with rice and pork. It's a nice tasty ceasar salad with the rice and pork which makes it more healthy way. Service - quick especially around lunch time and ordering in advance at lunch helps. Ambiance- blends into the neighborhood so you might miss this and working limited. But there is a shopping center right across street just in case and walk across. It is worth it !!

I won't be able to rave enough about how good this place is. A small restaurant tucked away in Metuchen. Not much seating but don't let that discourage you. I have been here twice & plan to stop by many, MANY more times. Everything I've had so far is delicious, the pork adobo, the chicken Inasal, the ube cookie. Staff is super nice & will take the time to explain what their items are & what's in it. If you want authentic filipino food this is a place you have to try.

I've ordered from Plain and Simpol several times and their food is always delicious. The Ooh Lam platter has great variety and has always been a hit among my friends and family for a take out option. There's minimal seating inside but when I've eaten there, it felt like I was eating at a neighbor's house - everyone was hospitable and it felt welcoming and like I was eating home-cooked food. Highly recommend if you're looking for great Filipino food in the area!

I drove past this restaurant a million times and never new it was there. Its located in a small plaza with a one way entrance. Luckily someone gave it a review on Instagram and I had to try it for myself. The food here is really good! I visited here three days in a row to try something different. Each dish has its unique flavor that satisfies your tastebuds. Their prices are reasonable. Its cozy in the inside, so I do not recommend you plan to sit down and eat.

I make sure to support my Filipino businesses because other than Jersey City, they are so few and far between in the state of New Jersey. Sadly, I was so disappointed with Plain & Simpol. I was impressed with the extensive menu. I saw items on there that aren't typical of Filipino restaurants. Cheesesteaks, burgers, quesadillas. Something for everyone. Kudos to them for the variety. But I went there for traditional Filipino fare so I ordered the Chicken Inasal rice bowl. First red flag should have been that the price said $11.99 but when she charged me, she said it was $13 and change. I thought surely the tax couldn't be that much but I wasn't going to argue over change. Fast forward, my eReceipt said I was charged $12.49+tax. I don't like that. The price posted should match. Speaking of what was posted, the Chicken Inasal rice bowl description said signature grilled chicken. Traditionally, Chicken Inasal is a grilled chicken quarter but this was sliced up chicken breast (or thigh) ON THE FLAT TOP. There was no grill involved! Also, there was nothing on the menu that said it came with a side salad and it certainly didn't say anything about Ranch dressing. It was all over my chicken! I was so annoyed! Ranch dressing on Filipino food?? Had I known there was going to be Ranch dressing, I would've said to leave it off or put it on the side. I'm not fussy about food and I tried but I couldn't stomach this. I ate the egg and took the rest home to my neighbor's dog. I didn't even want the salad. Salad next to hot rice? No thanks.

We had the ube burnt cheesecake, ube overload and turon! The turon was super delicious! And the ube burnt cheesecake was light, not too sweet and incredibly delicious! The staff are also personable and very friendly as well!

Plain & Simpol, Simply Pleasant. What a wonderful suprise visiting this place after being bookmarked for so long. Small casual restaurant with only a few dining tables. Food is made to order, so expect a bit of a wait that will be worthwhile. I have been her 3 times this summer since my first check-in. Each visit has always included the turon (filled with jackfuit). The halo halo is delicously complete with all ingredients. Service is friendly and accommodating. Melanie is welcoming and ready to provide Plain & Simpol service. Looking forward to getting more Turon & Halo Halo.

Are there any platters without soy sauce? Asking because of gluten allergy

I belive you can ask to withhold the soy sauce. They are very friendly and welcoming.

Can we order trays of food, no rice, like in other Filipino restaurants? Also do you cook with MSG (ajinomoto)?

Yes. I have done that. Just call them and let them know what you want.

I am still disappointed by the lack of response from the corporate office on this matter, but the Edison location was extremely helpful in resolving my issue. Initial review: My wife and I have been going to True Food Kitchen for a while now, and really enjoy their healthy food options, but their recent lack of customer service is very disappointing. We recently purchased a gift card for True Food Kitchen but when we had problems with it, the local restaurant wasn't able to do anything. We reached out to the company they parner with for the gift cards, who told us to reach out to corporate. I left two voicemails with True Food corporate with no response, in addition to leaving email with no response either. I would appreciate it even if they couldn't do anything that they would at least get back to us and let us know that, but nothing. I commend True Food for offering such healthy eating options for people but without good customer service, I can't see it really lasting for long.

This is not my first time here, but my husband really didn't like it last time we went. He decided…read moreto give it another chance. NOTE: Be very careful about using any dining credits from Open Table here. I saved up points for like a year and got a measly $16. When deciding on which restaurant to choose for Brunch today, we noticed True Food was in the Open Table network, so I would be able to use the credit there. When we arrived the place was pretty empty. Strange for the time of day. Bad sign #1. They walked us to a large table. The table was soaking wet and the hostess laid our paper menus on the puddle of water, never acknowledging the fact that the table was wet. Bad sign #2. I used my napkin to dry off the table and asked the waiter for another. He was very cordial. It was noon on a Saturday, so we assumed they would provide us with the Brunch menu (since that is why we came) and we had to ask for it - a measly 4 items on this menu, so options were few. Bad sign #3. Our server and the taste of the food were the only positive things about this trip. At the end of the meal, I followed the Open table directions and clicked on redeem in front of the waiter. It seems a Mastercard number pops up and since the server nor the manager knew how to do the dining credit, she said it was declined and could give me a 10% discount. Our meal was only $30, maki g that like $3 I said that I had to use the dining credit here since I booked our reservation which is tied to the credit and I would lose the dining credit. The manager was very demeaning and I reminded her that I can't use this credit anywhere else and that the whole reason for choosing this restaurant today was because of the Open Table credit. She then asked me to stop yelling at her. I, at no time in this conversation, raised my voice. I just stated the fact that I will lose $16 if they don't use it here. She said I could use it elsewhere and I reiterated that was not true and asked if she could contact open table to see why it won't go through. She said no because they are a third party and it is not their responsibility. After a while back and forth on this, she then said, I told you I would take $16 off the bill so you can use that elsewhere. When I reminded her that she said only 10% before she again said to stop yelling at me and I am just trying to make you happy. My husband said, does she look happy? After that she basically kicked us out of the restaurant. I will never return to this location ever again after being treated this way, like I was some criminal trying to get over them over a lousy $16. Now I can see why, on Sunday during Brunch time, the place was practically empty. Go to Original Pancake House just up the street if you want great food and service. There will be a wait but it is worth it!

A few logistical tips: while there is street parking, a public lot is conveniently located right across the street. The dining room is quite intimate with only about ten tables, and since they don't seem to take reservations, I recommend arriving early or being prepared for a wait. If you don't want to wait, they do offer takeout! Another suggestion is to browse their menu online before you arrive, the selection is extensive! We showed up without a game plan and needed several minutes just to decide because there were so many tempting choices! Luckily, our waiter was incredibly patient and helpful, answering every question we had. Once we decided, the real fun began. Every single item, and I'm not exaggerating, was phenomenal! We started with the fresh squeezed orange juice, which was sweet and perfectly portioned, along with a vanilla latte and a cappuccino. Both were classic, rich, and creamy. For the main course, we chose the "Chill + Qill It" Chilaquiles, which featured traditional corn tortillas topped with cotija cheese, avocado, pink sour cream, eggs, and your choice of protein. We also tried the Parkside Classic Sliders; the chicken was exceptionally crispy yet tender and juicy, served with eggs on a brioche bun. We opted to upgrade to the truffle fries, which were delicious! Although our sliders accidentally came with pickles, the staff was so kind and immediately offered to remake the dish or swap out the bun. Finally, we had the Grilled Chicken Egg Ranchero. It was like a breakfast version of nachos, loaded with beans, peppers, onions, an egg, those same crispy tortillas, and more of that signature pink cream! We couldn't leave without satisfying our sweet tooth, so we finished with the Cinnamon Roll French Toast. It tasted exactly like a fresh cinnamon roll, the glaze was incredible, and the bread was perfectly crisp on the outside while remaining fluffy inside. I honestly cannot wait to go back and work my way through the rest of the kitchen's creations. This restaurant is a absolute must-visit for their unique combinations and superb flavors!

I did not think I would ever come back here. Not because of the experience or anything, just that…read moreit is in New Jersey which is many miles away from me across multiple states. So how did I wind up back here? Bit of a story but if you read my first review you'll see how I met a friend that I met online 13 years ago for the first time and this was the place we went for dinner after an event. Well, now a year later, her and I were traveling together north to Parsippany and this was the closest restaurant that looked appealing. It was not until we enter the parking lot I said out loud, this is where we had our first dinner. Anyways, enough of that love story. I really want to give this two stars for service but the food really pushed it over the top. So all in all I will keep it as a four star review. I want to address the food first, I had the short rib tacos, and my partner had eggplant caprice flatbread. I had a bite of hers which I absolutely enjoyed, eggplant had a nice crisp to it which really made it enjoyable. The short rib tacos... holy crap! Mind blown. I did not expect such great flavor in such a small bite. Everything about the tacos packed a punch. I would much rather have had six tacos and no chips and salsa. As for the service, this is where I got frustrated and my cash tip hopefully reconcile with my server. We dined on the rooftop which was completely empty minus a couple at the bar. We seated and ordered our beverages. I did not get my lime with my lemon water. After we ordered our meals, and received them, a server never came back to check in with us. I wasn't a big fan of her attitud either. It started to get busy I noticed that the host kept seating everyone around us when there was an entire floor to sit people at. Not sure if they're trying to keep people in one specific area but for how slow it was they certainly could've given everyone more privacy. I'm pretty sure the couple that was seated next to us got up and left for that reason. Cannot say I will not be back but who knows when I'll be traveling through again.

The standout for me was definitely the coal oven wings. They had the perfect char, super tender and juicy, and came with a great variety of sauces on the side. Easily one of the best things on the table. The St. Patrick's Day Guinness-battered fish and chips were also really good crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, and not greasy at all. The brisket sandwich was solid and came with a generous side of fries. We also ordered the fried calamari, which was delicious light, crispy, and not greasy. Everyone at the table enjoyed it. Overall, a great spot for a family meal with good food and a lively atmosphere.

If this is upscale dining by Darden, they've gone downhill and are very, very far from what Capital Grille offers. To make this review short and sweet my wife, brother-in-law and daughter came in around 8:00 p.m. for a couple drinks and a snack. After finally realizing something is terribly wrong here, I spoke to the GM, Chris, and told him what was going on. We hadn't received water an hour into our experience, we were never even offered any bread. I'm sitting here a steak and butter knife drinking a glass of Caymus and feeling like I am being ignored in the ghetto. The runner, Jessica, as pleasant as she was, was forced to drop our food on an extremely cluttered and disorganized table with empty glasses from the first round. There was zero attentiveness on the part of anyone for our entire experience. After speaking to Chris, we were finally brought some glasses of water and what I remember to be possibly pita bread or flatbread with rock hard butter. Towards the conclusion they offered us some tiny desserts on the house, which we politely declined. Nothing was discounted, there were no apologies. Such a beautiful place with a welcoming atmosphere to be thrown to the wolves like this. After working for Darden in the Chrysler building, I know this does not uphold their standards or what the managing partner would expect out of their staff.
