Jerk chicken and oxtail empanada to the right. Curry beef lumpia with a bite taken out to the left and another whole one in the back.

Bonneys is a fusion of a Jamaican husband's and a Filipino wife's culture and cooking skills. What a fusion it is! We went for the first time recently but it won't be the last time. Damian and Jean are making magic in their busy kitchen. We walked in and were immediately greeted warmly by the hostess behind the counter who was very busy organizing the many take out orders they had brewing. She said she would be with us shortly and we could order at the counter then sit down in the small but vibrant restaurant. When it was our turn we ordered curry beef lumpia, coconut glazed plantain, an oxtail empanada, and the jerk chicken jerk pork combo. I had a Sorrel/Kalamansi drink that tasted like a tropical lemonade. Everything was delicious! Curry beef lumpia is like a beef patty filling inside of a lumpia shell with a curry flavor. This dish was the perfect example of Jamaican and Filipino fusion. Plantains were served with slices of jackfruit and were a very welcome different version of sweet fried plaintains. Oxtail empanada, while very good, was mostly rice and some oxtail but so flavorful! Jerk chicken and pork were served with rice, purple cabbage and a potato. The jerk sauce wasn't as spicy as some jerk sauces I've had. That smoky grilled flavor just permeated every part of the dish! Meat was tender, juicy and full of flavor. Rice was fluffy, seasoned well, and also had that great smoky flavor. Total for the food was $56. Everything is reasonably priced with no entrees more than $24. Its a rare thing theses days to get the quality and the quantity of food we got at that price point. The staff, food, service and hospitality were all top notch!

I love a good fusion restaurant, and I definitely can't say I've been to a Filipino-Jamaican spot! I heard it's family run, and I saw some of the kids hanging around in the store which was cute. My friend ordered the BBQ pork ribs which were nice and smoky. Some of the meat was a bit charred, and it was not fall off the bone that I would've liked, but I really enjoyed the flavor profile. I got the half chicken, half pork combo. If you have a hard time choosing, this is the box to pick. The pork and chicken were both pretty flavorful, but again, a bit on the drier side. I wish there were some sauces we could pair with everything. Drinks were ok, and there is outdoor and indoor seating available. Prices are also in the $20 range, but you get A LOT of food. I think one box could feed 2 or 3 adults. ty for reading :3c

I order the half and half jerk plate which is pork and chicken with tomato, potatoes, and slaw. I was surprised to see how huge the portions was for $20, this can be easily shared with 2 people. It also comes with hot sauce and a vinegar sauce. Everything was very flavorful and delicious, you can taste the char on the meat.

Service and food was amazing. The oxtail empanada was my favorite and so was the Mac and cheese. The jerk chicken was very tender. The restaurant was very clean as well.

I will say this is one of the most unique food combinations to open in the lovely town of Metuchen! Just think about it, the fusion of Jamaican and Filipino food was just a brilliant idea! I remember reading the article about them and I was so excited about them opening. I drove by location several times and then began following updates online until they finally opened. I've met the owners of Bonney's BBQ and they are very friendly and I've expressed my gratitude for this culinary adventure. It's definitely a great addition to the area and I really hope we will continue to support them. It's very clean inside and the food is being freshly made when you order it. I love how the drink menu changes on a regular basis and all the drinks I've gotten were a hit. You can also order online and pick up or visit them and dine in. The Jerk Chicken was very good and I enjoyed the curry beef lumpia too. They also have an affordable lunch special deal so please give them a try and you can thank me later!

I was dying to try this place out after seeing a video, being that it's a Jamaican and Filipino fusion food, something I've never had before. I made sure to stop on my way to AC, which they are located in Metuchen, NJ, and is literally right off the station stop as well. They are located on the corner, and you might miss them if you weren't really looking, but once inside, it's a cute spot with a laid-back seating/dining area and a bar-style counter as shown in the picture. It's family-run and very friendly. When we arrived, they were busy with customers inside and pickups. They do not have a large menu section, but I did get the half & half, sorrel drink, plantains, and lumpia. I truly enjoyed the plantains, which were sweet with the jackfruit, and the curry lumpia, which was crunchy and had a good flavor to it. Being that it's half Jamaican, I thought it would be spicier, but it was more on the mild side. The same for the jerk chicken and pork; they did have sauces on the side that helped a little but not much. The portion on the platter was generous, especially with the meat. As for the rice it came with, I wasn't too much of a fan; this seemed to be a Filipino rice dish. I really like the sorrel drink! I also liked that everything was made fresh to order, as the kitchen is open and you can see the chefs making your food, so there is a bit of a wait, which I don't mind at all! All the food was served in to-go containers, which is a good idea for leftovers. I would suggest that they try to use compostable products whenever possible, given everything was plastic. Overall, it wasn't bad, but unless I'm in the area, I wouldn't go out of my way.

I stopped in this restaurant for a quick meal. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked into and cozy restaurant. I ordered with one of the owners the: Soursop Cranberry Ginger Curried Beef Lumpia Coconut Glazed Plantains Jerk Mushroom Jerk Chicken I really enjoyed the drink and the Lumpia the most! All in all a really good experience!

    THANK ME LATER

WHY CANT THEY HAVE THIS IN MANHATTAN??!! I had the half/half jerk pork and jerk chicken). $22 and beyond worth it. It can easily fill up two people. I've ate Jamaican food all over Brooklyn and to be able to get the flavor all throughout is rare (down to the bone). God bless them. The food is heaven sent. I wish I wasn't so full from lunch. I don't come here often (I live in Manhattan) but when I do, I gotta stop by and taste a little heaven. I'm actually going to take the rest home so the family can experience this. You can't keep this flavor to yourself. It's gotta be shared. Dessert was a home run last time. Going to take a cheesecake home as well.

The food was delicious and the service was great!! We were ordering takeout for a big family group, so they informed us there was a family sampler platter that we were able to order. That worked out perfect for us. The food was hot, fresh & flavorful. I would definitely go back.

We were visiting from California and stumbled upon Bonney's through instagram. The idea of combining Jamaican and Filipino food was something we just had to try. It was so good, we came back twice during our week in NJ. When we got there, we wanted to order the oxtail adobo but they only serve it during the weekend so we ordered the Jerk chicken, curry beef lumpia, and plantains w/ jackfruit. You definitely get your moneys worth with their portion size. The jerk chicken was so flavorful! The lumpia was different but amazing and the plantains were the perfect combination for all the savoriness. Over the weekend, we came back for the oxtail and ordered FOUR PLATES plus more lumpia and plantains. It was so good!! Also, shoutout to JC for giving us other recommendations around the area! Looking forward to our next visit to Jersey to eat here again!!

We came on a sunday and apple maps shows it opens at 11am but its wrong they dont open until 12pm. The door was slightly open and we were about to walk in and she told us they open at 12pm so we came back out and just waited until 12pm hit. We were only 20 minutes early from opening time. We wanted to order oxtail and shrimp but she said they didnt have it. We got half& half, curried beef lumpia, and coconut glazed plantains. We also ordered sopas but she forgot about it and just packed to go for us and gave us a sweet pudding dessert.

Decided to try this place because I heard that the Jerk chicken was a must have, welp they were right!!! The jerk chicken was amazing!!!!! Got the fried shrimp wasn't a fan unfortunately I didn't like that it was still shelled and hard to eat. The rice and cabbage is a great combination with the meals. The service was great and the atmosphere was very homey.

Jeanne and Damion are the sweetest most welcoming couple that we love supporting! Ever since their soft opening they have been so patient and kind with all of their interactions. Their fun fusions are what keep me coming back for more to try their spin on Filipino Jamaican dishes. We've catered with them as well and there isn't a thing I would change about their menu. Great quality food for a good price. Looking forward to see how their business keeps growing and booming!

Cozy and unpretentious, it's a small business and a true hidden gem. The moment we set foot in the door, we were warmly greeted by Paul, the extraordinary host and husband of the chef, Maricel. Upon seeing our reservation via OpenTable, he noticed we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. He gave us the most romantic table in the house. Megan quickly came out to take our order. We were deciding, and she mentioned they have Benguet coffee. As it was freezing outside, it was perfect as we looked through the menu. The Benguet coffee came out in a French Press. Benguet coffee is a single-origin coffee that grows in the Northern part of the Philippines. We tasted notes of chocolate, berries, and nuts. Intoxicating!! Pandesal, Filipino bread with accompanying butter, came out with the coffee. These are truly melt-in-your-mouth, as when you first break it, the crispy outer layer gives way to a soft and fluffy center. Heavenly!! We decided upon their Kamayan Tower, which is a 4-tier is like a Filipino celebration of food, all brought together and giving you a tasting banquet at your table. The top tier was the appetizers, where crispy Lumpia and Siomai (Filipino version of Shumai) lay. The second tier consisted of Pork Sisig, Chicken Inasal, and Pancit Bihon. The Pork Sisig was my absolute favorite as it was a symphony of rich and savory flavors. My husband loved the Chicken Inasal, as the flavor profile is smoky, tangy, and savory-sweet. The following tier held many delights, but what stood out from that tier were Chicken Adobo, the perfect ratio of soy and vinegar marinade, and the crispy Whole Fried Tilapia. Excellent combination of crispy skin and moist and flaky inside. Last but not least, the final tier had many stars, but what stood out for us was Beef Kaldereta and Inihaw Na Liempo. The primer is a stew with vegetables, potatoes, and tender beef. Slow-braised in tomato-based sauce, giving us hearty and comfy feelings. The latter is grilled pork belly, where the smoky and sweet flavors come together. Just when we were finished, Megan brought out a plate of desserts, and Paul gave us two flutes of champagne to celebrate. The food was all phenomenal, as was the service. Chef Maricel herself came out to greet us, and we talked about how these dishes were prepared. She has a full staff prepping for the dishes and truly tries to replicate the flavors of her grandmother's cooking from Manila. Both she and Paul were in the cooking school where they first met, and we laughed at how we first met our spouses. The place is a hidden gem, and Chef Maricel wisely chose her signage to be huge black lettering on a white, lit-up background so that passing cars can see her restaurant as they drive by. Plenty of parking as they share a parking lot in the strip mall. If you are looking for great Filipino cuisine where they treat you like family, this is the place. The place is not huge, so I strongly recommend people make their reservation via OpenTable. Chef Maricel also mentioned they offer cooking lessons during the weekdays, except for Friday evening, and they also serve Classic Filipino brunch towers on weekends. Sign. Me. Up!!
